Chapter 26: Saving Lives.

Disclaimer: I don't own Inuyasha.

Sango took a few steps toward the boy calling out his name once again, however, she stopped when Kohaku got into a fighting stance with his chain-sickle raised in the air.

"Kohaku, you still don't recognize me, do you?" Sango asked feeling her heart drop in her chest. She reached her hand out as she took more steps toward him until she was standing face to face with him. She saw him lower his chain-sickle and saw something flash in his eyes that looked like recognition.

"Sis?" Kohaku whispered which made Sango choke out a sob and wrap her arms around him, but the very moment she did, he raised his arm with his sickle and struck Sango right in the back between her shoulder blades.

"K-Kohaku, why?" Sango choked out as blood fell from her mouth and she fell to her knees before falling on her side.

"Sango! No!" Miroku yelled before both him and Inuyasha leapt into action, immediately pinning Kohaku to the ground with Inuyasha's foot on one of his arms and Miroku's foot on the other arm, with both their swords pointed directly at Kohaku's face.

"No!" Kagome yelled as she ran towards Sango's unconscious body. "Don't kill him! I can save him!"

"Kagome." Inuyasha growled. "You are not using your power of healing, absolutely not!"

"Oh, so should I just let Sango die then, hmm?" Kagome shot back.

"No!" Miroku yelled out in desperation. "Please, no!"

Kagome raised her eyebrow at Inuyasha, daring him to tell her she can't do it again.

"Whatever." Inuyasha growled out as he turned his focus back to Kohaku still pinned under his and Miroku's feet.

"What, what's going on?" Koga asked, not getting what they were talking about.

"I'm about to save lives. I don't have enough time to explain it to you." Kagome said quickly.

"And why don't you want her to save Sango and her brother?" Koga asked Inuyasha.

"Because it puts her in danger of dying." Inuyasha answered, not liking the situation.

"What!?" Koga yelled out completely horrified at the thought of Kagome dying. "And you're just going to let her do it, dog-breath!?"

"What the fuck do you suggest I do, scrawny-wolf-boy!?" Inuyasha fired back.

"Stop her!" Koga shouted.

"And how do you suggest I do that?" Inuyasha yelled back.

"You're the man, command her to stop!" Koga growled.

"Okay, enough!" Kagome screamed, completely fed up with this argument. "The longer we stand her arguing about this the closer Sango is to dying. Now, you two need to shut the fuck up, back up and let me fucking save their lives! Because I am going to whether you want me to or not! Now you got anything else to add!?"

Both, Inuyasha and Koga, didn't say anything - both being low-key scared of her at the moment - they just turned their heads off to the side, silently saying that they were done arguing.

"Okay, then." Kagome said before bringing her arms up over her head and closing her eyes. Shippo watched with big fearful eyes as her hands turned bright blue and water gathered over her hands. She opened her eyes causing Shippo to shake in fright, he didn't think he'd ever be able to get used to her eyes glowing blue like that. She then slammed her hands down on Sango's back, causing a blue haze to go over Sango's body. Her eyebrows knit together in concentration as sweat started to drip down her face. She felt a sharp, stabbing pain in her back and knew that this was Sango's pain, what she was feeling. Wanting Sango to be free of pain, she pushed down harder so she could get every ounce of the injury healed, however, the more she pushed the more pain she felt in her own back - like she was taking the injury from Sango and giving it to herself, which she'd do a hundred times over again for any of the people around her at the time.

After a few more minutes Sango let out a gasp as she sat straight up causing Kagome to scoot back before bracing herself by placing her palms on the ground and breathing hard trying to catch her breath.

"Are you okay, Kagome?" Shippo asked as he walked up to her with tears gathering in his eyes.

"I'm fine, Shippo." Kagome breathlessly said as she stood up and started walking towards the still pinned down boy that had swords still pointed at his face.

"Kagome, what-what are you doing?" Sango whispered making Kagome stop.

"I'm going to save your brother." Kagome answered, still a little breathless, then continued to walk toward Kohaku.

"But." Sango said as she stretched her arm out toward Kagome, worried that she'll overdo herself but desperately wanting her little brother back. It was an internal fight that she didn't know which side was going to win.

"You're important to me, Sango." Kagome said, not stopping her walk. "So therefore, Kohaku is important to me as well. I am not going to let him die, and I will not allow him to stay under Naraku's control!"

Kagome walked over to the boy that was laying motionlessly on the ground with Inuyasha's and Miroku's feet on his arms, he was looking blankly up at the sky with an emotionless face on. She knelt down on the ground beside him before leaning over and placing two fingers on the side of his neck, trying to find a heartbeat. She then moved to his wrist checking there before she put her head on his chest to make sure she was feeling was real or not, she didn't want to get her hopes up and definitely didn't want to get Sango's hopes up if she wasn't feeling what she thought she was feeling.

Sango waited with bated breath as she watched Kagome do her exam, hoping beyond hope that she would find what she was looking for.

Kagome leaned up with a small smile on her face. "It's there." She said not looking away from Kohaku. "It's there but it's faint and he has a lot of damage to his body." She said as she looked toward Sango. "I'll do what I can."

Sango nodded as she watched Kagome lift her hands up in the air, her hands turning blue and gathering water before slamming down on Kohaku's body making him arch his back and a silent scream leaving his throat. The impact of Kagome's hands on the boy's body was so powerful that it threw both Inuyasha and Miroku off of him.

Kagome was physically hurting the moment her hands touched Kohaku, she let out a sharp gasp that made everyone around her want to pull her away, but they all held their selves back in order to see if she could save the boy - Inuyasha, however, was keeping a sharp eye on her, ready to pull her away should she show signs of serious distress. Her body felt like it went up in flames, it was downright torture - however, she pushed through, desperately wanting to save her best friend's brother.

On the outside she managed to stay calm, though with a slight scowl on her face, sweat pouring down her face and labored breathing, however, on the inside she felt like she was burning alive - she remembered that Sango said that her village was burnt to the ground along with everyone that lived there, she wondered if this was how Kohaku felt as the flames liked at his skin - it was absolute torture. After about twenty minutes she managed to get his heart beating stronger and was able to heal his wounds enough to sustain his life without the use of the shard. Letting a gush of air pass her lips Kagome slumped forward, Inuyasha barely catching her in time before her body could hit the ground, her breathing hard and fast, she was slightly shaking all over her body and she was sweating profusely making Inuyasha worried about her.

"Kagome, are you alright?" Inuyasha asked with concern laced in his voice not liking how pale she was looking.

"I'm fine." Kagome said through breaths, not opening her eyes. "Sango, Kohaku will be fine." She whispered still breathless. "I do need to do more treatments on him, but he can live without the jewel shard now." She passed out right after she said that.

Inuyasha picked her up as Miroku picked Kohaku up as they all went in search of a suitable camping sight so the two could rest for the rest of the day and night.

Hope you enjoyed that chapter! We are getting close to the end of this story, maybe one or two more chapters than it'll be done! See you next time! Bye!
