Dear Diary: I'm Scared.
Disclaimer: I don't own Inuyasha!
A/N: Warning! Suicide attempt in this chapter.
Recap:
Inuyasha didn't want to help Kikyo per say, however, he did know that Kagome didn't want any part of being evil. So, when Kikyo asked for help, it kind of woke him up from a trance that he didn't know he was in. He stepped around Kikyo and placed his hands back on Kagome's shoulders. "Kagome?" He whispered. "Please come back to me."
It took a few minutes, but Kagome's eyes slowly changed from purple back to her normal brown and Kikyo was released from Kagome's hold on her.
Kagome looked around noticing that everyone wore faces of shock and Kikyo was crying. "Oh, God, what did I do?"
*X*
"What do you mean 'what did I do!?' You're fucking crazy and out of control!" Kikyo shrieked making Kagome flinch.
"Kikyo, stop!" Inuyasha ordered.
"K-Kikyo, I-I'm so sorry!" Kagome stammered out as tears streamed down her face.
"No, fuck that, what you did is unforgivable!" Kikyo yelled. "Just wait till my mate hears about what you did!"
"Kikyo just fucking leave!" Inuyasha let out with what sounded like a growl.
Kikyo aimed a disbelieving look towards Inuyasha, like she didn't believe that he was picking Kagome over her. However, she thankfully left without another word. As she was walking out, however, she was stopped by someone calling out to her.
"Do you want Prince Inuyasha for yourself?" The manly voice called out causing Kikyo to look to her right to see a man walking up to her.
"Oh, hi Renkotsu. What did you want?" Kikyo asked and having been at the castle many times over the years, she knew all the gaurds that worked there.
"I can help you get what you want, which is Prince Inuyasha, if you help me get what I want." Renkotsu said.
"And what is it that you want?" Kikyo asked.
"I want Kagome dead." Renkotsu answered.
"You and me both." Kikyo said as she jerked her head silently telling him to follow her.
Inuyasha turned his attention toward Kagome, placing his hands on Kagome's face and getting close to her. "Kagome." Inuyasha whispered as he brushed his thumbs along her cheek bones. "It's okay, you're fine, I'm here and you're safe."
Kagome gulped down several breaths of air as she tried to calm down and get her emotions back in check. Her hands reached up to grip Inuyasha's wrists so she could better ground herself as she heaved a few more breaths of air. "I'm okay, now." She whispered as she felt Inuyasha wipe her tears away with the pads of his thumbs. "I-I think I'm going to take a hot bath and a nap." She said as she gently took Inuyasha's hands away from her face and side stepped him so she could walk to her room. Once inside her room she sighed as she shut her door behind her and walked to her desk before sitting down, grabbing her pen and opening her notebook to a blank page.
Dear Diary,
I'm scared. I don't know what I'm supposed to do or how to keep my emotions in check. I'm trying so hard but no matter what I do, the evil always seems to get in!
What if I can't win? What if I lose and the evil takes over? I don't want that to happen but what if I can't stop it? I don't know what I'm doing!
Maybe I should just end it, the world would be better off without me in it. Another chosen one would be born and be so much more than what I am right now. With me being the chosen one, the world is doomed one way or the other but with someone else that doesn't have the past that I do would be better than me - the world would be saved with someone else.
Kikyo was right when she said I was nothing, she was telling the truth. I don't know why Prince Inuyasha can't see it now, but he will eventually and that terrifies me. I could see myself falling for him and he might actually like me now but what happens when he finally opens his eyes and sees me as the nothing that I am?
Maybe I should just end it all before that happens. I doubt anyone would actually miss me, so what's keeping me here? I'm so tired of having to be strong all the time, having to be this person that I never wanted to be. I can't even fall apart at the seems like I want to in fear of evil taking over me.
I want to be done fighting. I'm exhausted.
So, I guess this will be my last entry, if anyone reads this.
Sango, I love you, please don't cry over me - I'm not worth it, and please don't follow me, I know that we said that we'd go together but I want you to go on and be happy, please don't follow me. Remember all the good times we had, though very few we had some good times up in our tiny room playing make-believe that we were rescued, and we lived in a huge castle and look at us now - we did get rescued and now really are living in a castle with everything that we could possibly need and want! I want you to hold on to the dream that we always had, the make-believe that became our reality, I want you to hold on to it with every fiber of your being! And P.S. I think Miroku really likes you, you should let him love you - I've seen the way he looks at you when he thinks no one is looking. Run with the idea that he really likes you, run with it and be happy. Please, don't let what I did hold you back from living your life, I love you.
Prince Inuyasha, thank you for actually making me feel wanted. I feel like I could have fallen in love with you but when you finally realized what I really am you will leave and it would hurt too much to lose you, so I'm ending it before that happens. I'm so sorry that I wasn't strong enough to go on, to see what our lives could have, should have been like. I don't want to hurt anyone, and I'm sorry because I know that I am hurting you and Sango by doing this, but I don't want to be the reason that people would die - especially by my hands. I feel like we could have been happy and had a good life together if I were normal and not the chosen one, it's just so complicated with my past on top of that. I tried so hard to get past what happened to me, but I don't think I will ever truly be healed fully and be free enough to give you my full heart like you deserve. I know that you said that we are going at this at my pace, but it isn't fair to you to have to wait for something that might never happen - I care about you too much for something like that.
I guess this is goodbye.
Yours truly,
Kagome H.
She stood up and made her way to her bathroom, she looked at herself in the mirror and was surprised to see her eyes swirl with brown and purple like the colors were at war with each other. She took a deep breath as she reached for a bottle of headache medicine that was sitting on her sink. She quickly uncapped the bottle and filled up a glass of water before taking the whole bottle of pills. Once she was done, she looked at herself in the mirror and saw that there was a little more purple than before, like the evil was fighting its way in and winning the battle. She didn't want that to happen, so she thought that this was the best choice. However, the longer she stood there looking at herself in the mirror trying to calm herself down, she saw as the purple slowly receded into the background and though it was still there Kagome was surprised at herself for making it go away if only just a little bit. The longer she stood there the more she thought of Sango and how she would be without her, would she really be okay? It had always been them two against the world, would she be able to deal with the fact that she was no longer here? She thought about everything that they had been through, everything that they both had suffered and survived through. She thought about how strong they had been and now she was crumbling at the seems. She then thought about Inuyasha and how kind and patient he had been towards her. She thought about how caring he was and how he was taking the time to go slow with their relationship and going at her pace. She thought about how their future could have been and how happy she could have been. The children that they could have had together, would he want that? To be a dad? She always wanted to be a mother ever since she was a little girl, but she didn't think that anyone would want her because she was sure that she would be a yellow and nobody ever wanted to be with yellows unless that person was a yellow themselves. Inuyasha, though, seemed to really want her and she was starting to believe that since he had shot down the offer she gave him to go and be with Kikyo.
Did she make the right choice? She was starting to regret taking the whole bottle of headache medicine. She was beginning to think she had made a huge mistake. She was beginning to feel dizzy but tried to make her way out of the bathroom using the wall to try to keep her on her feet. She made it to the bathroom door and tried to walk toward the bedroom door where she knew Jakotsu was standing post right outside that door. She knew she needed to make it to that door to get the help that she so desperately needed and wanted, however, when she took a few steps before she collapsed on the floor with her last word before going unconscious was Ja- then the blackness took over her senses.
*X*
Naraku opened the door of his secret hideout after hearing several knocks.
"About time you got back, what happened?" Naraku asked the woman that was standing next to a man outside his door. "And who is he?"
"I'm not going back there!" Kikyo said as she pushed her way past Naraku. "That thing is crazy! Oh, and that's Renkotsu, he has some sort of vendetta against Kagome and wants her out of the picture." She said as she made her way to the couch then plopped down on it.
"Oh yeah?" Naraku murmured looking Renkotsu up and down. "And what's this vendetta you got against her?" He asked as he gestured for the man to come in and to take a seat on the couch.
"Several years ago, before I was a guard in the castle, I was in a group of men that was always up to no good - you know, breaking the law, stealing and killing, that sort of thing. We heard tell that the next chosen one was to be a yellow, we knew that if the person was to be trained and gain control of their powers that we would be annihilated, and so we went to every yellow village and murdered them all. I guess we missed some and the yellow population grew once again, still we hoped that we ended the chosen one's life when we did our raid - however, when the two slaves came to the castle everyone else missed but I saw Kagome's shirt shift some and I saw her mark. When I saw that I knew she was the chosen one and that I failed to end her life, I still break the law behind the king and queen's backs and intend to still do so in the future, so I tried to use Kikyo to end her so that the palace didn't know it was I who wanted her dead. That didn't work, so I intend to go much harder if I need to. I, however, want to stay as anonymous as possible so that I can keep my job as a guard because it pays good money and allows me to keep my hobby to commit crime. I also need to make sure she, and everyone else, never finds out it was me that they are looking for, for the murders of the yellows - though I think someone else is murdering the yellows as well, because of some of them come floating down the river from your town." He sent a knowing look towards Naraku.
"Does the other guards play a part of this?" Naraku asked thinking that if they did then he'd have a greater chance of getting inside the walls of the castle and completely ignoring that he basically found out about his hand in murdering the scum yellows - he needs to be absolutely sure that he wasn't trying to set him up before he told him his hand in killing the yellows off.
"No." Renkotsu shook his head. "I met them when my name was just Ren, when we met at the try outs for guard duty in the castle, we all developed as a sort of team and played around with names until kotsu was a part of all our names. They have no idea of my hobby and I know they wouldn't want anything to do with it or me if they found out." He said before sighing. "I'm on thin ice with them right now, however, because of the stunt I pulled with Kikyo and Kagome and lying to Jakotsu into leaving his post."
"So, what have you to offer me?" Naraku asked.
"I know all the little secrets about the castle." Renkotsu said with a smirk. "I've been snooping around the castle on my free times and found all the little nooks and cranny's, I can get you in and out without anyone even knowing you were there."
"Good." Naraku said with a twisted grin curling his lips. "That little bitch is dead after what she did to me." He sneered as he turned to face Kikyo. "As for you, you are going back. You will serve as a distraction to further ensure that I won't get caught sneaking in."
"What?" Kikyo whined. "Why can't he be the distraction?" She asked pointing at Renkotsu.
"Because, my dear, if you want to be able to reject me and me to reject you - we need Kagome out of the picture, preferably six feet under. You do as I say, when I say it - and you'll be able to be with your precious Inuyasha." Naraku said as he ran the pad of his pointer finger along her cheek bone.
"What's the plan?" Kikyo asked hating the way her body reacted to Naraku because of their mate bond, in her mind she belonged with Inuyasha and he with her, but she knew that he felt obligated to be with Kagome - so if she were to get Kagome out of the picture then Inuyasha would be free to be with who, in her mind, he really wanted to be with - which was her and not Kagome.
"Renkotsu will go with me, showing me all the secret passageways to go in order not to be caught. You, Kikyo, will just walk in unannounced just like you did today, and cause a scene big enough that all eyes are on you and off of Renkotsu and me." Naraku said.
"Are you sure that you don't want to go more in depth with that plan?" Kikyo asked.
"What's that supposed to mean?" Naraku asked sending a dangerous look towards Kikyo.
"It just means that it's going to be harder than just you going behind the scenes and me causing a ruckus! Just be smarter than that and actually think about your plan and not just wing it!" Kikyo said. "They're smarter than that and it's not going to be that easy."
Naraku quickly grabbed her by the throat and got in her face. "Are you calling me stupid!?" He growled as he tightened his hold on her neck. "Don't underestimate me, bitch, I have more tricks up my sleeve than you know." He said before throwing her down on the ground and watching with a smirk as she struggled to catch her breath.
"It's going to be fine. I know everything there is to know about the castle, I can get you in and out without anyone knowing who was in there except for the dead girl left behind." Renkotsu said with every ounce of confidence that he held in his body. "I'm working the west side of the grounds so you can get in that way, I'll give you a sign that coast is clear and let you in the west corridor."
"Alright then, that's the plan." Naraku said letting go of Kikyo's neck and grabbing the remote to flip on the television indicating that the current conversation was over and done with.
*X*
Kagome found herself back in the dark abyss as her eyes tried to adjust to the darkness surrounding her.
"Am I dead?" Kagome asked as her heart sank with fear.
"Now, dear." A voice sounded, though it didn't sound like the voice from the first time she was in this darkness - this voice sounded sinister.
Kagome looked around her, not seeing anything until a glow beamed right beside her and instead of a floating orb, she was looking at herself - almost like she was looking in a mirror, but the reflection had bright purple eyes and a scary look on her face.
"Why, I'm you, dear one." The reflection said with a scary smile curling its lips.
"N-no you're not." Kagome stuttered as the feeling of fear crept in her chest.
"Sure I am." The reflection said. "I am what you desire to be."
"And what's that?" Kagome asked.
"Powerful." The reflection said. "You want to feel in control of your powers and use them to the full extent, right?" The reflection said as it waved its hand to the side causing a spot to open up letting light in the dark room. "Watch."
Kagome watched as her, Inuyasha and the others were standing in the kitchen eating their lunch when Kikyo came in. She watched as she told Inuyasha to go with Kikyo, she watched as he turned down her offer, she watched as Kikyo degraded her by calling her nothing and powerless. She knew what was next and she wasn't sure that she wanted to see what happened.
"Please don't make me watch this, I don't want to!" Kagome begged the reflection.
"I'm showing this to you so you can see how I can help you learn to use your powers and stay in control without me having to help you by taking over." The reflection said.
Kagome sighed and looked back at the movie of her life that was being played and she watched as Kikyo clutched two chunks of her hair and screamed at her to get out of her head, to which she told her no several times. She watched as she called Kikyo stupid and then watched as Kikyo gasped telling her that she wouldn't ever touch Inuyasha like that and went to try to slap her. However, Kikyo's hand never connected with her face because she used her powers to control the blood moving through Kikyo's veins and told her such when she asked why she couldn't move. She watched as Kikyo began to beg to be let go, which - once again - resulted in her being told no several times, she watched as Kikyo begged Inuyasha to help her and watched as Inuyasha shook his head as if trying to clear it before side stepping around Kikyo to place his hands on her shoulders. After that the screen went blank.
"You said you wanted to help me control my powers but why make people suffer like this? Why make them scared of me?" Kagome asked. "I don't want that."
"Dear one, the fear must be there in order for people to respect you, without it they would walk all over you - just like Mrs. Ito and Kikyo did. If I didn't show them what you could really do, they would have never learned." The reflection said.
"But." Kagome started but didn't get the chance to speak as the reflection started up again.
"It won't be like this forever, sweet one, just long enough for you to be able to control everything on your own then I'll step back and let you shine just like I know you can." The reflection said actually making Kagome think about it. "Don't you want to help the people you love? Don't you want to feel like you're enough for the people around you? Don't you want to feel like you really want to live and not end your life?"
Kagome nodded her head yes, she wanted all of that - that's all she ever wanted. She took in everything the reflection had to say in consideration, if it could help her gain control faster and then step back and give the control back to her once she could handle it, then what could it hurt to have it help her - she knew she needed it badly.
"Then let me help you, dear one, let me show you just how powerful I can make you." The reflection said as it stretched its hand out for Kagome to grab. Its smile stretching wider on its face as Kagome slowly moved her hand towards that hand that was being offered.
"No, Kagome don't!" The voice from the first time that she was in the darkness shouted. "The evil is trying to trick you! Don't give into it!"
Kagome gasped and came back to the reality of things. "No! I will not let you have control over me! Stop fucking with my mind and get away from me!" Kagome screamed at the reflection watching as the reflection started to shatter and bust into thousands of pieces.
"Kagome." The guide said from behind her making her turn around to see the orb floating behind her. "You must be careful; the evil can take shape of anyone you know, and it can sound so convincing that will make you think that you are making the right choice when you're not.
"How can I keep it away from me?" Kagome asked the orb.
"Just Keep fighting." The orb said before disappearing leaving Kagome alone in the blackness.
*X*
Inuyasha, Sango and Miroku were all sitting in the kitchen thinking about everything they could do to help Kagome get a handle on her battle against good an evil. They knew they were told that they could not help, but still, there had to be something they could do.
Sango let out a sigh after about an hour of them thinking of something and coming up with nothing. "I'm going to go check on her, you know, try and cheer her up. This can't be easy on her mentally, I'm a little worried what it's doing to her emotionally."
The men nodded their heads but didn't say anything as they were still trying to come up with something to help Kagome.
Sango let out another sigh before turning on her heel and venturing down the hall towards her sister's room. She nodded in greeting to Jakotsu, he nodded back with a smile and a wink, and opened the door before gasping at the sight that greeted her. She saw her sister lying motionless on the floor, her heart dropped as tears gathered in her eyes. She turned to look at Jakotsu telling him to go get Prince Inuyasha before running inside to see if her sister was still alive. Her vision blurry as she tried to check Kagome's vitals, with severely shaky hands she placed her first two fingers against the side of Kagome's neck trying to see if she could find a heartbeat. A few moments later, Inuyasha came running in the room with Miroku following close behind.
"What happened!?" Inuyasha growled before kneeling down next to Kagome.
"I-I don't know!" Sango sobbed. "I-I can't tell if she has a heartbeat!"
Inuyasha roughly swatted Sango's hand away from Kagome's neck to replace her fingers with his own, he didn't mean to be so rough with Sango, but he was panicking. He kept his fingers on her neck for a few moments before moving his fingers to her wrist for a few more moments. "She still has a heartbeat." He said as he swiftly scooped her up from the floor and fled out the room in the direction of the castle's medical center, hoping that they could treat her here and he wouldn't have to take her to the hospital.
Kicking the door in of the medical center, he nearly scared the nurses and doctor out of their skins, as he rushed in and placed Kagome down on one of the beds. "Please, please help her! I don't know what happened or what she took, just please help her!"
The doctor and nurses rushed to work on Kagome running tests and checking her vitals, Inuyasha just sat there and helplessly watched them work on her.
Sango and Miroku went to check her room to see if they could find any clues as to what happened to Kagome. Sango walked into the bathroom and gasped as she found the empty bottle of headache pills with the cap still off the bottle. She quickly grabbed the bottle and before leaving the bathroom. "I know what happened, hurry we have to get to the medical room and let them know."
Rushing down several different hallways they finally made it to the medical room and ran it. "She ingested this entire bottle of headache medicine!" Sango shouted holding the bottle above her head.
"Oh God." Inuyasha muttered feeling completely hopeless and helpless as he watched as the doctor and nurses rush to do what was needed for the overdose.
About an hour later, Kagome's stomach had been pumped and she had the necessary medications that was needed for the overdose, she had an x-ray as well as an ultrasound to double check her liver to see if there was any damage done to it.
"This isn't good." The doctor said as he looked over her x-rays and ultrasounds. "She severely damaged her liver beyond repair, she needs a new one. We have her stable for now, however, she needs immediate attention and surgery to save her life."
That means they'll have to go to the hospital for that to be done. Inuyasha immediately scooped her up from the bed and rushed out the door with her, as Sango and Miroku followed close behind him. Inuyasha and Sango got in the back seat, with Kagome cuddled on Inuyasha's chest, as Miroku got in the driver seat and drove off towards the hospital.
Inuyasha and the others ran in and demanded that they get help right away. They told the doctor what had happened and that the castle doctor said that she needed to have a liver transplant, a gurney was brought out and Inuyasha placed her down and ran after the nurses as they ran to put Kagome in an empty clean room. They drew her blood to see what blood type she was then rushed out the room to do their testing.
A few hours later, the doctor came in with a frown and Inuyasha's gut sank knowing that there was no good news to share.
"We have some livers on standby, unfortunately though, none of them match her blood type." The doctor said. "I'm very sorry."
"Test me." Sango said with a raised head daring the doctor to refuse her request.
"I'm sorry, but unless you are family than it will probably not work, and even if you were family it still would be up in the air." The doctor said apologetically.
"She is my sister, I don't care what you have to say, you will test me right now." Sango said firmly.
The doctor sighed but nodded as he left the room to get everything ordered for another blood test.
About an hour after taking Sango's blood the doctor reentered the room. "Well, it looks like you are a match to her. What would you like to happen now?" The doctor asked with a raised eyebrow. "You can't live without your liver."
Ever since Sango came to live in the castle she became quite interested with medical shows on the television, so she asked Miroku if he could buy her some medical books and when he did, she got right to reading and studying them - she was fascinated with the whole idea of the medical field and wanted to pursue it as a career. She remembered one of the shows that she watched and remembered looking it up after to see if it was factual, she learned that someone could live with half of their liver and be just fine, in fact - the liver could actually grow back in a few years.
"That is true, yes, however - you can live with just a half of your liver, so cut half of mine out and give it to my sister right now!" Sango demanded.
The doctor grumbled, he knew she was telling the truth, however - he was being lazy and didn't want to do the surgery.
Inuyasha, getting fed up with the asshat, let out an inhuman growl before stomping over to the quack, grabbing him by the collar of his shirt and shaking him a few times roughly. "Listen here, buster, if you don't do what you can for my future mate and she dies, I'll make sure my prison rots on top of you before I even consider letting you out!"
"And who are you to be able to make such big claims as to what's going to be my outcome if I don't do this?" The doctor asked as he jerked his shirt free.
Inuyasha stepped closer to the doctor's face with every ounce of intimidation that he could muster painted on his face. "You must be new here, so I'll give you the benefit of that doubt, but be warned not to make this mistake ever again - I am Prince Inuyasha and you will do this procedure on Sango, and you will save my future mate's life or you will be sorry you ever crossed paths with me."
The doctor did an audible gulp before nodding and gesturing Sango to follow him to get her prepped for emergency surgery. Yes, he was a new doctor there and didn't quite know everybody that lived there, he did know the King and Queen and that they had a son together, however, he had yet to meet said son and didn't know what he looked like. He apologized to Inuyasha before telling the two men to go wait in the waiting room while the procedures are taking place, the doctor, Sango and Kagome - still passed out on the gurney - then disappeared behind the corner while Inuyasha and Miroku walked the other way towards the waiting room.
Several hours later, the doctor came back out and motioned for Inuyasha and Miroku to come to him before gesturing them to go into a secluded room.
"Both operations went smoothly, they are still sleeping now, a nurse will come and get you once they have waken up." The doctor explained. "However, once Kagome wakes, she'll be put on a seventy-two-hour hold since she tried to commit suicide, she will have to talk to one of our psychiatrists before she's released. Other than that, they both did really well in surgery and should make a full recovery. I want to apologize once again to you, I am very sorry how I treated you and your friends - I had no idea who you were, and if I did know, of course I wouldn't have treated you as such."
"Word of advice, considering you chose to come into the medical world, you should treat everyone - no matter what their status is - like they are very important to the world because you never know what they are capable of, one day you might need help and the person that you let die because of their status could've been the only one that could've saved you, food for thought." Inuyasha said as he stood up and left the room with Miroku following after him.
About thirty minutes later, both girls had woken up allowing Inuyasha and Miroku access to their room.
"Why would you do something like that?" They heard Sango say in a hushed tone, probably due to have just woken up from anesthesia. They watched as Kagome, with tears leaking from her eyes, look at them then look down at her hands that were playing with the edge of the sheet.
"I-I'm scared." Kagome whispered. "I'm scared that I won't be able to beat the evil, I'm scared that even if I do, I won't be able to master my powers and save the world. This is all too much for me to handle all at once." She admitted. "But I made a mistake, I don't want to die, I want to try and get a handle on this. I want to beat the evil and keep the world safe, I'm sorry that I made this stupid mistake."
"You're right." Inuyasha said making everyone in the room look at him. "You did make a stupid mistake." He said as he walked towards her watching as she looked back at her hands still fidgeting with the sheet. "It's okay to be scared, Kagome, but next time come talk to us. We'll do whatever we can to help you through this, you're not alone - even if it feels like it, we are here for you and we always will be."
Kagome looked up at Inuyasha as more tears fell down her checks, she then looked at Sango and Miroku as they nodded in agreement.
"You will never be alone, Kagome." Sango said with a small smile.
"Yes, we are here for you." Miroku added.
"Thank you." Kagome whispered as she looked at all three of them. Inuyasha bent down and kissed her temple before wiping her tears away.
"Get some rest, the doctor said you are going to have to be on a seventy-two hour hold since you tried to kill yourself, you also need to speak to a psychiatrist before you can leave." Inuyasha told Kagome.
Kagome groaned as she rolled her eyes before closing them, she really didn't want to stay for seventy-two hours but she guess it couldn't be help - she made her bed now she had to lie in it.
*X*
Seventy-two hours and a clean bill of health from the doctor and the psychiatrist later, Kagome was released from the hospital. She apologized profusely during the car ride home, she couldn't believe that she would do something like that.
Arriving at the castle, they all walked in, feeling tired and needing a nap - Kagome walking in the direction of her room but was stopped from opening her door when a hand grabbed the crook of her elbow.
"What are you doing, Prince Inuyasha?" Kagome asked, a little frustrated that he stopped her from going to take a nap. "I'm tired and want a nap.
"That's what you said last time and then you tried killing yourself." Inuyasha reminded her. "I'm not letting you out of my sight. From now on, you will not leave my sight until I know for certain you won't try to hurt yourself again."
"Prince Inu-"
"Just Inuyasha, please." Inuyasha said.
"Inuyasha." Kagome breathed out. "Please I just want to lie down, I promise I won't do anything stupid; I just want to sleep."
"Sorry, no can do, I don't trust that you won't hurt yourself, you can sleep in my office - I have a meeting in about thirty minutes." Inuyasha said as he started walking, still holding Kagome's elbow forcing her to follow him.
Kagome grumbled under her breath that Inuyasha either didn't hear or chose to ignore.
"You can choose which couch you wanna sleep on." Inuyasha gestured towards the two couches as they walked into the room. Kagome looked at the identical couches and shrugged as she laid down on one without giving it much thought. Inuyasha sighed as he sat down on his desk chair feeling better knowing that Kagome was there with him so he could keep an eye on her, she might be mad about it and that was okay, this was for his peace of mind more than anything else. When he saw her motionless on the floor it scared him so bad, he thought his heart was going to stop. He shook his head to get rid of the memory and got to work on gathering up everything he needed for the meeting.
About twenty minutes later, a knock on the door sounded, indicating that the person he was having the meeting with had arrived.
Inuyasha got up and opened the door to let the mayor in, he shook hands with him then gestured for him to sit in the chair in front of his desk.
Movement from Kagome turning over in her sleep caught the mayor's attention and Inuyasha saw his eyes widen somewhat before turning back and locking eyes with him once again.
"I'm sorry, I didn't realize you had company - should we do this another day?" The mayor asked as he began to stand up from the chair but stopped when Inuyasha put his hand up in a stopping position.
"It's okay, just keep your voice down. She just got home from the hospital and is still coming down off the pain meds that they gave her, I'm sure a bulldozer couldn't wake her right now."
"Okay." The mayor said as he casted another look at Kagome and Inuyasha didn't know how to feel about the way he was looking at her.
"I will introduce you to her if she should wake while we are still having our meeting." Inuyasha said with a tone that suggested that the mayor should stop looking at her right this second. Thankfully, he got the hint and turned his head away from the sleeping woman on the couch.
"Have you any word on the killings of the yellows?" The mayor asked Inuyasha.
"We have a suspect that has yet to admit that he is killing them, however, we also believe now that he's not the only one committing the killings - we believe there is another one also." Inuyasha said remembering the discussion that he had with Miroku the other day, after one of their many searches trying to figure out any clues that would tell them who was doing this - they came across bodies that were burned and realized for the first time that they were looking for two different killers, saying that some of the killings didn't quite match up with the others. Some of the bodies were burned while the ones coming down the river were not.
"Do you think that they are working as a team?" The mayor asked as he stroked his beard in thought.
"No, we don't think so." Inuyasha answered. "Some of the bodies were burned while the others were not, leading us to believe that they're working separately.
"Ah." The mayor breathed out as he continued to stroke his beard. Inuyasha noticed he did that quite a bit while they had their meeting and wondered if he should look more into why he should feel the need to do such an act while they were talking. He knew people had their indicators to show that they were lying about something or feeling anxious, he wondered if that was the case with the mayor. "So, where do we go from here?" he asked. "How will you get the suspect to admit that he's the one that's killing off the yellows?"
The way that the mayor had said 'yellows' and the look that he gave as he said it, gave Inuyasha a pause - however, the look did not stay on the mayor's face long enough for Inuyasha to read too much into it just long enough for him to store it away and come back to at a later date.
"Well, I plan to find and capture the one we have suspicions of and torture him until he tells us the truth." Inuyasha didn't mention the true reason that he wanted to torture him, which was because of what he did to Kagome, because he didn't need to know that - as of right now, Inuyasha couldn't fully trust the mayor right now.
"Good, good." The mayor nodded his approval. "And what of the other one? Have you any leads on him?"
"Not any strong ones, though, we fear that he might live within the walls of our very town." Inuyasha said with a sigh, and it was at that moment that Kagome stood up and walked towards the door - she had been awake ever since the mayor started talking. She got a gross feeling that crawled across her skin that told her, without a doubt, that the mayor was lying through his teeth. Before Inuyasha could ask her what she was doing she opened the door and stuck her head out to tell, who he only could guess was Jakotsu something that he couldn't quite hear - she then closed the door and sat back down on the couch that she had slept on. Not thinking much of it, thinking that she might have asked him to go get her a glass of water and her pain pills or something, he turned his attention back towards the mayor who had his attention on Kagome. Inuyasha cleared his throat to regain the mayor's attention then raised an eyebrow as his face held a displeased look indicating that he did not appreciate the fact that the mayor seemed to have an infatuation with his mate-to-be.
"Oh, what makes you think that?" The mayor asked as he focused back on Inuyasha.
"We've been finding more and more bodies within the wall of our town, an alarmingly number of bodies that would suggest that someone living here would be the culprit." Inuyasha answered before there was a knock on the door, before he could say or do anything about the person on the other side of the door, Kagome got up to answer the door. A few seconds later she closed the door before turning around to reveal that she had her notebook in her hands, Inuyasha didn't think too much into it, figuring that she just wanted to write in her diary. Letting out a small sigh before turning his attention back to the mayor, and to his dismay - found that the mayor's eyes were once again on Kagome, he cleared his throat once again, regaining the attention of the mayor once more. He then heard as a page out of a book was ripped out and being folded before Kagome got up and slipped the piece of paper on his desk right in front of him, he looked up at her, catching her eyes with her own and was shocked at the purple and brown that was swirling in her eyes as if both colors were fight with each other, the colors were beautiful together but only reminded him of her internal battle that he wish desperately that he could help her with. She gave him a small smile before turning around to sit back on the couch before opening up her notebook to write some more. He looked down at the piece of paper before grabbing it, unfolded it to read what was said.
'I know it sounds weird, but he's not being completely honest. He's hiding something from you.' Inuyasha sighed as he refolded the piece of paper and left it lying in front of him, he was worried about his suspicions being true and with Kagome's word he knew for certain that the mayor was hiding something.
"Have you heard of anything?" Inuyasha asked looking back up and the mayor seeing his eyes quickly shift from Kagome back to Inuyasha, he had to bite the inside of his check to keep from screaming at him to stop looking at his mate.
"I, unfortunately, have not." The mayor said with a convincing look of regret on his face.
"Then this meeting is over." Inuyasha said as he stood up wanting the mayor to get out of his face right now before he could lose his cool.
"Okay." The mayor said as he stood up as well. "Are you going to introduce me to this fine young lady?" He asked and Inuyasha saw that Kagome had frozen and wanted to get the bastard out of here so she could feel comfortable once again.
Inuyasha motioned for Kagome to come over, which Kagome does, and places his arm around her waist when she stopped beside him - secretly loving the small gasp that escaped her lips. "This is Kagome, my future mate."
"Your future mate?" He asked before moving his eyes from Inuyasha to Kagome. "If I may ask, what's your color?"
Inuyasha tightened his hold on Kagome's waist. "That's none of your concern!"
Kagome placed her hand on his chest making him look down at her and about got lost in her eyes. "It's okay." She whispered to him before looking back at the mayor. "My color is yellow."
The mayor burst out in laughter for several minutes before gaining control of himself.
"I don't see what's so funny about this." Inuyasha said with a scowl etched on his face.
"I'm sorry." The mayor said as he chuckled a few more times. "But yellow, sir? You deserve someone better than a yellow. No offence." He said toward Kagome.
"This is none of your business and this meeting is over, so leave, now." Inuyasha demanded the mayor.
The mayor cast one more glance at Kagome before turning on his heel before leaving the room.
Inuyasha turned Kagome around to look into her eyes. "Are you okay?"
Kagome nodded. "Yeah, I'm okay."
"How did you know that he wasn't being totally honest?" Inuyasha asked.
"It's kinda hard to explain." Kagome sighed with a shrug of her shoulders. "I get this feeling of gross feeling that crawls across my skin every time that someone is being dishonest. I know it doesn't make any sense but that is how I can tell someone is lying or hiding something."
"Would you mind joining me for my meeting from now on?" Inuyasha asked. "I could use that kind of gift with dealing with my people." He watched as Kagome nodded as he brushed a strand of hair behind her ear. "Good, I have some paperwork to take care of so it might be a minute before we leave the room."
Kagome nodded again as she walked back to the couch and continued to write in her diary.
