The First Ages

(Universe DB)

Earth's history is a tumultuous one. Each era of time as A novel with a dozen different authors, all walking over each other to lay their version of events. Now imagine that novel as only one of a series.

The first such novel, was known as The Silver Millenium.

The Silver Millenium was host to great kingdoms, both on Earth and its natural satellite, as well as the Seven Capital Cities of Heaven. That, of course, ignores the brilliant Silurians and others of the more reptilian variety. Such an era, of Magic and Technology in balance, would never be seen again.

Civilizations of such stature on such an underdeveloped planet attract attention. The first to arrive were known as the Great Diamond Authority. They were a species known as gems, featuring multiple distinctive appearances, but led by the titular Diamonds.

Such an arrival signaled the beginning of the end to many. The Siluriens saw a great calamity in the future and buried themselves underground in hibernation chambers. Taking heed from their elders, the Seven Capital Cities of Heaven hid themselves away in mystically produced pocket dimensions, only to be accessible from the outside world once every eighty-eight years.

While the first of the Diamonds to arrive followed relatively peaceful conventions, their brethren were not so accommodating to the younger species. This would eventually spark humanities' first interstellar war, covertly aided by the Pink Diamond.

However, this war would not stay within a vacuum for long. The next species to arrive were ancient entities, only known as the Celestials. Their origin is unclear, often thought to be scientists on a cosmic scale, and they do nothing more than experiment. A planet that bore such advanced fruits? They wanted such a rarity for themselves.

History does not record the victor for this war, as there were none left to claim victory. The Daimond Authority left, one member short and many resources lost. The Celestials laid their seeds in the pitiful remnants of humanity and on their way, short some of their own race.

And humanity? They were not prepared for this scale of war. Inner turmoil from the likes of the sorcerer Berei and immortal Vandal Savage tore them apart as much as their invaders; Their own monsters nearly finishing the job. The last vestiges of this era fell beneath the depths or escaped into the stars. Pieces of a forgotten past to reemerge in the distant future.

And so, with the end of that age, bursting with magic and power, began a new one. This chapter of history would share one key trait with its predecessor. Battles, and many of them at that. For now, began the War of the Gods.

This age of humanity worshipped a multitude of otherworldly beings. Asgardians, Olympians, and many others. The battles were bloody, each side vying for control of the earth. Such war, however, had only one true winner. The God of it.

Ares eventually became so powerful that even the likes of Zeus and Odin feared him. But it wouldn't be either of them who would get the better of the war god.

The species known as the Elder Gods, incorporeal entities that only fight within temporary vessels, were not a united front like their rivals. They often fought each other as much as the other gods of earth. One of them, however, saw the large threat presented by Ares. His name was Raiden, and while his vessel lacked the strength of an Asgardian, or the lighting of Zeus, he bore a cunning unmatched. He tired of the pointless war and saw a venue for its end.

He put his eye on one who, under the right circumstances, could fell the war god. A Spartan, one of Ares' own champions. It was with this that he approached the first domino of his plan.

Approaching Ares, Raiden, coming as if a traitor, showed him the man known as Kratos, a stronger warrior none could find, and proposed a plan. Make him stronger, make him rageful, and turn him as a weapon against their adversaries. The earth would be theirs. Ares agreed, and with that, signed for his own execution.

Ares followed the plan, likely intending to be done with Raiden when he had his warrior. He manipulated Kratos, killing his family by the Spartans own hand. He made him into a weapon fueled by the man's own rage. And it was that weapon that cut short Ares' life.

With the death of the old war god, Kratos gained his title, the greater war continued. With this new god of war, the Olympians came out the victor in battle after battle. But Zeus came to fear Kratos as much as he had Ares. And Raiden pushed another domino, inspiring the god of lightning to betray his greatest champion, while also ensuring Kratos survival.

This turned the war on its head. Many of Zeus's own family turned on him, unified by Queen Hipolita of Themyscira, eventually resulting in the death of Olympus's king. Odin, leading the next superpower of the conflict, had long since soured to the war. Asgard only carried on in battle for their pride as warriors, and doubt in their equals goals for the realm they called Midgard. It was with that attitude, that he approached the remaining combatants in the War of Gods.

Through the negotiations that followed, mediated by Palutena on the neutral ground of Skyworld, it was decided that all future battles would be held honorably, in single combat. Historians argue to this day who won the first Mortal Kombat tournament, but the results of it are clear in what followed. The gods left the world they fought over for so long.

Kratos was welcomed by the tired Odin and given rest in the realms under his command. He eventually adopted a son, abandoned on the field by enemies of Asgard. His son grew up in the halls of Asgard and, though hardly a warrior in his own right, made friends with the son of Odin. Their stories would be told for many ages to come.

Raiden was content with his plan, ending the war and ceasing the threat to Earthrealm. He was soon paid a visit by Odin, who's eyes saw what the elder god plotted, and formally warned him against ever again using Kratos for his schemes. The All-father of Asgard then eviscerated his mortal form. It was only gratitude for ending the war that stayed his hand from a more permanent death.

The tournament claiming Earth went on throughout the ages, many new challengers coming and going, yet those representing the planet won time and time again. Given the honor bound nature of the fights, any non-immortals are wished back to life through the power of the Eternal Dragons.

And so, the War of the Gods ended. Turning the page, for yet another new chapter to begin.

A slightly shorter story here, looking at a different era of history

First off, Thanks to Delta Prime2 for several ideas, and a brief explanation of GOW, that greatly assisted in this chapter.

I have no personal experience with most of the franchises this story pulled from, so I hope I didn't reflect them too badly. I apologize in advance for the likelihood of several accidental inaccuracies to the source. On the positive, due to having a specific narrator in this story, I at least had some wiggle room.

The Celestials messing with humanities genes is the canon reason for most superpower origins in Marvel comics. Gamma rays? Radioactive Spider? Cosmic Rays? Anything else that should really kill someone? Celestials have them all covered. I figured it belongs in a continuity as crowded with superpowers as this.

Smaller references include the Siluriens from Doctor Who and Palutena from Kid Icarus.

Thank you for reading and have a wonderful day!
