For all that Nezu is, determined and reliable to his word is among them. That was what Izuku thought as he looked over the frankly ludicrously long document. Most of it was NDAs about UA processes, which he could understand... and it had all 6 of his terms on the first page. But, there were no hidden clauses. There was even an entire page that stated that Izuku will not be the subject to any plans, plots, or schemes from Nezu. Must've spooked him yesterday. That's what he thought the next day as he got up, without Cathleen's help this time. Izuku was prepared for today. He was only expected to teach the two heroics classes as a start, and so, he'd prepared a unit on World War 2. It was the easiest part of Pre-Quirk history to understand, and they could all understand a fight between good and evil. Because as much as Izuku didn't want to admit it, but people in his time didn't understand nuance as easily as they did in the past. When he tried to explain the preceding conflict to Cathleen and Inko over dinner, to explain the rise of Hitler for World War 2... but it was impossible for them to understand. Why would people join someone so vile? Well, would you be desperate enough to save your country if it meant attacking all others around you? Those kind of questions just drift over people's heads these days. Izuku was startled by how Cathleen completely understood his perspective, and, on top of that, called Izuku "older than he was". Because, frankly? It was true, in a way. Refocusing on the day ahead, he hugged his mother before putting on the exo-legs of the LEAF suit. The teachers of UA were allowed to have anything they'd like, as the contract stated... which includes his suit. It gave him confidence and energy to deal with anything the classes would throw at him. Especially the first one he had... Class A. Inko told him that Katsuki was in that class, and was furious that everyone saw themselves as equals. If he can't tolerate everyone with amazing quirks being equal to him... then I hate to think of his reaction when he knows I'm his teacher. Walking into the administrative building at 7:30, he entered the teacher's lounge, folder for both classes in hand. Everyone had stopped talking, the other teachers looking at him, all having surprised expressions. Midoriya took stock of everyone who was there: Ectoplasm, Cementoss, Snipe, Present Mic, Thirteen, Vlad King, and a few others he didn't inherently recognize, as they were out of costume. Toshinori and Aizawa weren't shocked in the slightest, but analyzed the outfit with interest. Snipe spoke up, "Um... this isn't the support wing..." It brought Izuku out of his thoughts. He smiled, and waved a hello to them. "Oh, I'm not a student. Nezu hired me as the History teacher. I specialize in pre-quirk history." That statement was met with silence. Vlad King's eyes bulged from his head, as he said, "But you're just a kid..." The greenette sighed, "I know, Vlad King. He just wouldn't leave me alone. If you can negotiate for him to do so, I would be happy to be gone." He turned his attention to the sleep deprived hero. "Aizawa, I have your class in second period, after Ectoplasm's Math class." The black haired insomniac nodded, while everyone finally accepted the reality. Midnight spoke first, with a warm tone, a little uncertain in everything. "Well... Welcome, cutie! We met before, but mind introducing yourself to the rest of the staff?" Of course! He used exaggerated movements as he gave an introduction. "Ah, right, I'm Izuku Midoriya. I am the history teacher. I'll probably be working most with Aizawa, Vlad King, and Midnight. The two heroics homerooms, and the Art history teacher. Nezu wants me to work with the heroics courses first, then move onto everyone... if I'm here that long. If you have any questions, I'll be happy to answer them at lunch." Just then, the bell for homeroom rang, and the heroes with homeroom classes went to go meet their wards. Soon enough, Izuku barely blinked and it was second period. He walked down the halls, reaching Class A. Breathing deeply, he went over the names. Aoyama Yuga, Ashido Mina, Asui Tsuyu, Iida Tenya, Uraraka Ochako, Ojiro Mashiro, Kaminari Denki, Kirishima Enjiro... he went through the rest of their names... pausing only once on the final name: Katsuki Bakugo... He frowned, knowing that he would be a problem. But... he was able to meet up with Ectoplasm beforehand. "What are they like?" It was hard to tell the hero's expression, due to the mask he wore, but his voice was calming, and supportive. "A bunch of precocious children, although there are a few... interesting personalities. Iida is extreme, Kaminari and Ashido are a bit of a class clown duo, and Bakugo..." Izuku's face darkened, "I know about him. Don't worry, my only hurdle is my introduction." He offered some advice, "Just be yourself. You won't have to worry about them if you're unafraid." The greenette nodded, "Right." He looked over the door, each step clanking in the approach. "Thanks, Ectoplasm." His voice was amused, but positive, "Think nothing of it, Midoriya." Now that he was in front of it, the classroom door towered over him. Be yourself, huh? Well, this suit does give me confidence. Let's get started. Katsuki Bakugo was king of this new territory. While he wasn't elected Class representative or even Vice Representative, he knew it was only a matter of time before he would be recognized for his greatness. They were in awe at his performance at the quirk assessment test, proving without a shadow of a doubt that he was the best... He even got first place, beating Glasses, Icyhot, and even infinity girl... but it was overshadowed by rumors. There were rumors of a new teacher. Allmight was confirmed, but this previously empty period was now with a new subject: History. Something that nobody before them had done. What kind of teacher would teach this? Who did they get? Those were the questions echoing in their class. And now it was time. Ectoplasm had just left, and the new teacher would be arriving in just a moment. Mild conversation went through the classroom until Jirou looked towards the door. Everyone knew that if she perked up, someone was approaching. It was then that they heard what she must've. Heavy footsteps, clanking against the ground. That got them to start whispering. Who sounded like that? They had to be a hero... They continued to get louder, before stopping just in front of the door. The tension could be cut with a knife. Denki started to ask, "So... who do you think it'll be...?" BAM. A metal foot kicked the door to open inwards, and landed on the floor with a clank. Entering the room, he couldn't believe it. Bakugo's face contorted with anger, a fury that most could almost feel, inching away as if proximity would help. He was a ticking time bomb that just reached zero. Slamming his desk, he stood up, and spat out the only thing he could think of when he saw that irritating head of green hair. "FUCKING DEKU!" If he wasn't wearing the suit, he would've frozen from that outburst, but instead he did something that made the bomb even angrier. He ignored him. His voice, confident and even, Izuku started speaking, "Hello everyone, my name is Izuku Midoriya, and I am your history teacher." As he scanned the room, the students talked amongst themselves... clearly in disbelief, not knowing who he was or what kind of hero he was... and that was acceptable. UA was well known for having an all hero staff, and the greenette knew that he didn't really fit. But... everyone quieted down Bakugo immediately threw his desk down, nearly hitting the student in front of him, and marched towards Izuku, "Why the FUCK are you HERE?!" Narrowing his eyes, he used the LEAF suit's height to his advantage. "I just explained that, Bakugo, sit down." He gestured back to his seat. He refused, a clear act of defiance Izuku would have to put on his record. Something... he realized, that Bakugo never had. A teacher with a spine. So, it would be up to him to try to address this. Since it was clear that his homeroom teacher hadn't yet. So, he listened to the boy rant, "No, you cannot be our teacher. You are our age! And nobody would ever accept a useless, quirkless Deku like you." "First off..." Izuku started, "You are to address me as Midoriya-sensei or Sir. Two, you will sit down, or I will expel you, and I assure you, Katsuki, I am not afraid to prove it. You have a problem, go to Nezu. Otherwise, sit down, and be quiet." He smiled for a moment as the bomb fumed, then went back to his seat. "Fix your desk and apologize to your classmate for nearly hitting them with it." He watched with satisfaction as he did just that, and mumbled something. The boy shrugged, then they turned back to Izuku. "Thank you." With a nicer tone, and a bright smile, he addressed the rest of the class. "I apologize for that. Katsuki Bakugo and I have a history. While I get organized, I will be happy to let each person ask one question. I will go in order of seat number. Aoyama?" Yuga Aoyama went first. "Monsieur... Where did you get that suit?" "This? I found it during my travels. Specifically the US. It's a true piece of history. Next, Ashido?" She asked, eyes narrowing, "Is Bakubabe right, are you our age?" Izuku sighed, "I am." "Cool!" "Next, Asui?" She "Please call me Tsu, ribbit." He swallowed his nervousness, "Alright. Tsu, do you have a question?" "Nope, ribbit. I don't have anything to ask." "Alright... Iida, is it?" "Sir, what are your qualifications?" "Nezu has been hounding me for the past three days because I am the best in Japan when it comes to History. The rat won't be told otherwise. I am here because he believes I am best for the job. Does that answer the question?" Iida nodded. "Thank you." "No problem, Iida." "Alright... Uraraka?" She was nervous with her question. It was clear she was trying to be nice. "Is... is it true that you're quirkless? I don't want to sound rude... but I've never met one before." "It's fine. That's part of the reason I'm here. I am quirkless. The history I will be teaching involves the era before the first quirk, and the Quirk Wars that followed. People are quick to judge..." his gaze lingered on Bakugo for a moment, "... and quick to dismiss based on something uncontrollable. For the longest time, I dreamed of being a hero, of being just like you, with a powerful quirk..." He wandered to the window, looking out fondly, before returning to the class: "But things like that just aren't meant to be. As I was told by everyone, Quirkless are useless. Quirkless can't do anything. They are wastes of space. They can't be heroes. So I gave up. Frankly, I'm lucky I didn't kill myself. I certainly know I was told to." He changed topics, as everyone gasped in horror, and he wanted to set a positive tone, "But yes, I am quirkless. As heroes, your job is to protect those who can't protect themselves. I hope all of that will be instilled by your third year." The rest of them didn't have any memorable questions until Todoroki. "How did you get your scar?" "Hah... my scar..." He touched it with a gloved hand. "It was from an encounter with a particularly nasty creature. I suppose that segments well into what I wish to talk about after this. Hagakure?" The invisible girl's question caught him off guard. "Are you single?" His face went red. He was not prepared for that, "Um... yes?" He shook away the embarassment, before continuing, "However, Nezu has told me to not have any teacher student relations, so look elsewhere." "Aw..." That made the blond bully furious. Unfortunately, in the spirit of fairness, he then had to let Bakugo ask, "What have you been fucking doing?" "I don't have to tell you anything. But, to be impartial, I will answer. I went into the Rockies for an expedition. And I am currently in the process of writing a book on my findings. There is a ton of history out there, and I only saw a fraction of it." There were only three students left at this point. One was a foreigner, who asked about what it was like when he first got the suit, which was difficult to describe, but similar to getting a flight quirk and flying for the first time. The next was... Mineta. He'd read the file, and long list of student complaints, and it's only been one day. Even so, he thought there might be an age appropriate question... but he thought of Izuku as not being a teacher, so... he asked. "Is there a spare? Because it looks like I could pick up chicks with that thing." Izuku's distaste was apparent. "No. And I'm going to be telling Aizawa that you asked me that." He gulped. An appropriate response, given that he only just recognized that Izuku was in fact, a teacher. The greenette sighed as he turned to the final student, "And finally, Yaoyorozu?" What she asked was far more interesting for him, but one he couldn't answer. "What does your suit run on? I can't detect any energy readings, even when I made a device to do so." If anyone knew what that suit ran on, it would change everything. So, it'd been sworn to confidentiality. "Ah, right... that's confidential. I know what it runs on, but I can't let anyone else know. Sorry." She nodded, "I understand." Clapping his hands together, he spoke confidently, "Now that I've introduced myself, allow me to start with a quick story. When I went exploring in the rockies... I found a valley lost to time. Ancient ruins of pre-quirk nature, and especially prehistoric nature. The unit we're focusing on is one that I believe is the easiest topic to introduce you to history as a whole. A tale of good vs evil. Of darkest hours and resurgence. A rage against the dying of the light. Of Allies and the Axis." This piqued their interest, as they didn't know anything about it. It was over 1000 years ago at this point. There were no living people who had seen it. Then he asked, "And would you believe that this era was pre-quirk?" Everyone shook their heads, unable to comprehend the time. He walked around the room, between the rows, with everyone watching with rapt attention. Well, almost everyone. "Imagine everyone like me, without quirks. No ability to shoot acid, no ability to create anything from their body... just... normal... but... conflict was brewing. The nations of Germany and Italy were suffering from the outcome of a previous war. The Weimar Republic of Germany established was being weakened by an economic collapse the like the world had never seen before. And so, in their suffering, they turned to a savoir." He clicked the remote, the projector now showing a picture of a man with neat hair and a toothbrush mustache. "This is a man by the name of Adolf Hitler. He was an Austrian immigrant, who served as a soldier, and an artist who couldn't stand the fall of his beloved country. However..." He looked over all of them, "This man was also a radical. He blamed Germany's problems on a subsection of people... as today's society blames those with villainous quirks, so too did he with those of Jewish, Romanian, and Slav descent. But he didn't reveal his hand so soon. Instead, he built power through unity. I can fix the problems of our nation. Elect me as Chancellor, and I will work to help everyone." Everyone nodded, seeing how he could use words to win. "Slowly, methodically, he tore through the republic, building a majority with the National Socialist party, the group he controlled. In time, he had a majority, and passed amendment after amendment, stripping democracy away until he had created a third Reich, or empire. This was his goal. However, he lied constantly to the world about what he wanted. That allowed him the ability to take more and more, until the world couldn't stand by any longer. That was the start of the Second World War." Momo's hand raised. "Yes?" She asked, what was, in all honesty, a good question for everyone to hear. "How many world wars were there?" "If you wish to count the newer Quirk Wars, that would make a total of five. All impossible without the assistance of technology. You all take for granted phones, cars, planes. In this time, they had only been around for just under 20 years. Ancient concepts were starting to die down as they were unsustainable. Honor, glorious combat, those are things that people were forced to abandon in the first world war. In the second, they had to struggle for freedom to exist against authoritarians. Those who would take away liberty. Unfortunately, Germany had made three very powerful allies with similar ideals." He switched to a map on the board, with them highlighting in red, with the exception of one. "This is Italy, ruled by Mussolini and his fascists, Russia, or the Soviet Union, ruled by the Marxist Communists, and unfortunately, Japan, with the Empire of the Rising Sun." He clicked a remote, the one for the projector, and it put this image on the front wall: He continued "This was the state of the world when the war was in full swing. The Axis members each wanted more and more power. Things were looking dire as France and Britian declared war. Russia was technically neutral, but Italy, Japan, and Germany were all against the two nations. It didn't help that Britian was soon alone, as Germany completely flanked the fortifications and took Paris. It looked like Germany would win the war, and everything was on the line." Every student was on edge, but didn't appreciate why things were so dire. "I haven't said why things were perceived as dire back then. In Germany, when they took Czechoslovakia, Austria, and Poland, they built camps. Death camps that caused suffering and untold misery, dehumanizing everyone who was forced to be there. Millions died because of them. Imagine if people sent you because your quirk was a particular way... people already have biases against villainous quirks... and the quirkless like myself. Imagine if they were sent to die. Italy didn't do any of that, but Russia had their gulags, where they sent those who were considered 'enemies of the revolution'. They sent more than just that, but you get the idea... and Japan... Japan isn't innocent either. Granted, the Japan of today is not the same, but it's important to remember this: every nation, every people has their sins. It's about overcoming them, and being the good people that you are striving to be. Evil takes many forms. From a friendly face to the knife at your throat. You just have to recognize that as heroes in the field." Just then the bell rang. As he left the room, he told them one final thing: "I have no homework, but keep what I have said in mind for next lesson."
