So happy you like this!

Chapter Two

Mercedes blushed when her phone went off again, her brothers kept looking over at her suspiciously so she knew she needed to end the conversation with Sam for now.

"Yo, who's texting you?" Kevin asked, reaching over and trying to get her phone but she snatched it away from his reach.

"Nobody, it's just Quinn." She said putting her phone down and twirling a strand of her hair.

"She's lying! Look she's messing with her hair!" Harrison pointed out before reaching over trying to get her phone.

"I am not!" She said moving from her spot on the couch.

They were sitting down in the living room to have dinner and watch a movie. It was the first time in months when all of them were able to get together and per tradition they pulled straws to see who would pick the movie.

Maia won and picked action. They would be watching John Wick because Keanu Reeves was her favorite actor. They always had Chinese takeout and the local place was happy to see them this time because it had been a long time since they had an order as big as theirs.

"It's probably that boy that was smiling at her at the store." Marcus said, shooting Lena a smirk.

"A BOY!" Her brothers said in unison before they all started shouting over each other about how boys aren't supposed to be looking at her.

"Boys are gross, you don't need to talk to them." Kenneth said, shaking his head disapprovingly.

"And they smell and only care about cars." David chimed in.

"They lie all the time too!" Kevin added.

"So now that it's settled that you can't talk to guys, let's watch the movie." Harrison concluded and Mercedes looked at her brothers like they were crazy.

"I can talk to boys, if I want to talk to them." She muttered while slightly pouting.

"Aww man, she's making the mad face." David said smiling.

"It'll never not be adorable!" Kevin said before squeezing her cheek.

Mercedes rolled her eyes before making her plate, choosing not to continue with the conversation at hand. Maia just smirked and shook her head.

"Come on, help me get the drinks." She said to Mercedes before pressing play on the movie to shut up their brothers. Mercedes followed her sister into the kitchen as she started grabbing the drinks and ice.

"So you're talking to a guy?" Maia asked casually.

"No… not like that. It's weird… I fell on him a month ago, and today he came into my chemistry class to give me back my notebook. I didn't even know he knew who I was but apparently he's been looking for me for a month." Mercedes replied.

"Wow.. he must like you if he took that much time to find you."

"He barely even knows me… I saw him again at the store and he asked if I'd gotten the note he left. I did and it said to text him but I didn't…"

Maia smiled. "Why didn't you text him?" She asked, already knowing it was because she was too shy.

Mercedes shrugged. "I thought it was a joke but then he asked why I hadn't and I told him the truth. He said it wasn't a joke and then he asked me for my number."

"Hmm… well what are you two talking about?" She asked and Mercedes just shrugged.

"He's just asking questions… like hobbies and stuff." She answered.

"Let me rephrase it, what's he's saying to make you blush?" Maia teased before laughing when she saw the panic on her little sister's face.

"I'm not blushing." She said softly.

"Mhm. Sure, don't let those fools in there scare you away from him. If you want to be friends with him, it's okay." Maia assured her.

"Can I ask you something?"

"Anything."

Mercedes moved closer to her sister and pulled her phone out. "How do I reply to this?" She asked, showing her the most recent text from Sam.

You should come to my next game.

Maia let out a soft laugh and shook her head. "Ask him why, if he gives you a good answer, tell him maybe and then I'll help you pick out something cute to wear."

Mercedes looked at her sister uncertainty. "You sure?"

"Yeah, he's feeling you but make him work for it." She replied before walking back into the living room.

Mercedes thought over the advice before replying like Maia said and quickly shutting her phone off. She would have to wait to see his reply because she was too nervous to see his answer.

Why do you want me there?

Sam had just cleared the table when his phone went off and he saw her question.

Honestly because it gives me a reason to see you again and possibly hangout.

So you want to… hangout?

Of course.

Maybe.

I'll take it!

Sam looked up and saw his dad walk in looking rather relaxed

"Hey son." Dwight Evans said, smiling at his oldest son.

"Pop." Sam replied before walking towards the stairs.

"Hey, what's with the shortness?" Dwight asked and Sam just let out a sigh.

"If you're gonna cheat on mom, try not to do it on family night." Sam responded, noting the shocked look on his fathers face. "Yeah, we all know we'll expect Stevie."

Dwight looked at his son in horror. "Son there's a lot going on that you don't understand…"

Sam rolled his eyes. "Right because you sleeping with Maranda is such a hard thing to comprehend." Sam blurted before giving his dad one final look then heading to his room.

Sam knew about his dad's affair because he'd caught them. He never said anything because at first his dad was making it to dinners and making sure to put their family first but recently things had started to change.

His dad came home later, took more business trips and started forgetting games and events. He could see his mom was getting angry because the arguments started getting worse, he would shield Stevie as much as he could but he never knew when they'd argue.

Sam wasn't entirely sure how much his mother knew but he did know it wasn't in his place to break the news to her and he didn't have the heart to be the one to do it.

Dude I heard you shot Jen down.

Sam looked at the message from his friend Puck and chuckled.

Did she tell you that?

Pretty much, she said you'd give in eventually.

She just wants to keep up appearances, besides I'm not looking to date anyone right now.

Mhm, don't think I didn't hear about you looking for that sexy sophomore.

Sam smirked reading the message before hearing a knock on his door.

She's definitely cute but it's not what you think.

"Come in." He said putting his phone down and seeing his dad standing there.

"I want to talk to you." Dwight said, closing his room door and sighing.

Sam turned around and gave him his full attention. "Okay."

"I ended things with Maranda and have been trying to make amends. I've been working so much overtime to surprise your mom with a getaway."

Sam looked at his father intensely. "Why are you telling me and not mom?" he asked.

"Because I was hoping we could keep this conversation between us." Dwight answered and Sam nodded knowing exactly what he was actually asking.

"Yeah, sure." He answered, feeling angry.

"Thanks son." Dwight said, placing an envelope on his desk. "Good night."

"Stevie has a soccer game Saturday, Stacey leaves for Paris Monday and I have a game Friday." Sam said with no enthusiasm.

"I won't miss a single one of them." Dwight replied before walking out.

Sam looked at the envelope wondering what it was but chose to just put it into his desk.

Dad's cheating on mom.

Yeah, I know. How long have you known?

Six months, you?

A year. He left you an envelope yet?

He did today, why?

Don't spend it. Give it back and tell him to buy that bitch off.

He said he ended things.

Ha! Liar! He told me the same thing.

So you don't think he actually ended things with Maranda?

Maranda? His assistant?

Yeah… who did you think I was talking about?

Deborah, his associate! That's who I caught him with…

Fuckkk! So he lied to my face.

Basically but hey, at least you got him by the balls. Maybe he'll actually do right by mom now.

I don't want to be involved.

Too late.

Subject change, how do you impress a shy girl?

Really? Didn't take you for liking nice girls.

Hahaa, she's cute but really shy. I asked her to my game… she said maybe.

Then don't pressure her, just show her you're interested.

Okay deal. Thanks, Stace.

Np.
