Chapter Three

"Jesus Mercedes just tell me what he left you!" Quinn exclaimed and Mercedes just shrugged.

"I really was just a note." Mercedes answered for the tenth time.

Quinn had spent their entire spa day asking her countless questions regarding her encounter with Sam Evans and it was starting to get on her nerves. She wasn't entirely sure why but she didn't want to tell her about him actually giving her his number or the fact that they had been texting since Friday night.

It was now Monday and she was still asking to see the note. Admittedly, Mercedes tore the note of her notebook and hid it in her journal. She rolled her eyes as Quinn rambled on and on about Sam as they walked to their lockers.

"Holy crap! Look!" Quinn squealed pointing at Mercedes' locker, she looked and saw Sam standing there with a warm smile. Mercedes ducked her head trying to hide her blush

"I see…" She said softly as they approached their lockers.

Sam smiled at Mercedes moving aside so she could reach her locker. "Morning." He said.

"Hi." She replied softly before Quinn nudged her. "This is Quinn." She said introducing them.

Sam leaned over and waved at Quinn. "Hey."

Quinn moved Mercedes out of the way and flipped her hair. "Hey, how are you?" Quinn asked, clearly flirting with Sam.

"I'm good and you?" Sam asked, amused by her boldness.

"Better now, what brings you to my locker?" Quinn replied winking at him, Mercedes just shook her head before grabbing her things and closing her locker.

"Mhm… better? How so?"

"You're here, looking as good as you do. That's a bonus for me." Quinn answered and Mercedes had heard enough and decided to let whatever that was going on happen.

"I'll see you at lunch, Quinn." Mercedes said, turning and walking away.

Quinn shrugged her shoulders before looking back at Sam. "So we should hang out."

Sam looked at her before smirking. "No thanks." He said before going after Mercedes. "Hey, hey…" He said gently grabbing her arm,

Mercedes turned around and looked up at him. "Yeah?"

"I umm… wanted to see if I could walk you to class?" He asked, shoving his hands into his pockets.

Mercedes was shocked and knew her face showed it. "Y-you do?"

"Yeah, of course. So can I?" He asked again, smiling at her.

Mercedes smiled softly and bit her lip. "Sure."

"So, I have a question…" Sam said taking her books and allowing her to lead him to her class.

"Okay…?" She said walking beside him to her French class.

"Your dad called you tulip… why was that?"

Mercedes blushed. "It's because I'm shy… my whole family is so out there and I'm not. So they've been calling me that since I was a baby." She answered.

"Tulip… it's cute. Like you." He said and he could see her blushing even more.

Mercedes stopped in front of her classroom not sure how to respond to his compliment. "Umm… this is my class."

Sam smirked and handed her her books. "Wanna get lunch with me today?" He asked, noticing her apprehension.

"I.. umm..-"

"Mademoiselle Jones, la classe commence."

"Ah zut! Je suis désolé Madame Thomas!" Mercedes replied, looking at her teacher apologetically.

"Vite, vite." Mrs. Thomas said before walking back into the room.

"I have to go… thanks for walking me." Mercedes said to Sam.

"Text me about lunch." Sam said before kissing her gently on the cheek then walking away.

Mercedes was frozen in her spot before hearing her teacher clear her throat. She quickly walked into class ignoring the look from her friend Kurt about what just happened and sat at her desk.

Umm did Sam Evans just kiss you!

No… on the cheek so no…

On the cheek still counts! I want details and I expect all the tea after class.

Mercedes just giggled before shutting her phone off to pay attention to the lesson.

"So you're grabbing lunch with us today?" Mike, Sam's friend asked as they walked out of their class.

Hi… I've never been off campus for lunch before, so yes.

Sam smirked. "Hey, you think you and T would want to go off campus for lunch?"

Mike nodded. "Yeah, she's always down for skipping."

Sam laughed. "I said lunch what you two do after that is between y'all. I invited a friend so, behave." Sam replied, shaking his head.

Cool. Meet me in the student parking lot, row seven lot fifteen.

"Is this friend that underclassman Puck was talking about?" Mike asked, shooting his girlfriend a message to meet them at Sam's car.

"Her name is Mercedes and she's super sweet." Sam responded. "That's why I asked you and T to come along, she's shy and I don't want to come off as creepy."

"Ha! Dude you and a shy girl? That'll never work besides what do you know about her?"

"We texted all weekend and she's funny once you get her comfortable." Sam informed him as they walked to his truck.

"Mike!" They both heard before seeing Mike's girlfriend Tina standing there smiling.

"Is she always this happy to see you?" Sam joked.

Mike smirked and shot him a knowing look. "She knows what's happening after this, speaking of… can you cover with Beiste?" Mike asked.

"Ha! I can try." Sam replied watching Mike pick up his girlfriend and kiss her deeply before feeling a tap on his shoulder.

Sam turned around and smiled when he saw Mercedes standing there, he didn't get a chance earlier to fully admire how pretty she looked in her orange sweater and jeans, her hair was semi up and down in curls.

"Hey." Sam said, smiling down at her.

"Hi." She replied softly.

"Oh my goodness, Sam, is she the reason you wanted us to join you for lunch?" Tina asked, moving Sam out of the way. "Hi! I'm Tina, what's your name?"

Mercedes looked at the cheerful girl. "I'm Mercedes."

"Hi Mercedes! that's Mike, he's my boyfriend, we're going to lunch with you and Sammy." Tina explained and Mercedes just smiled. She could tell she already liked Tina but this was still very new for her and she was feeling a tad overwhelmed.

Mercedes just nodded and smiled at the tall dark haired guy who was identified as Mike before looking at Sam. "So where are we going?" She asked.

"Breadsticks." He said. "That okay with everyone else?" Sam asked looking at Tina and Mike who nodded.

"Cool, let's go!"

Mercedes had been laughing for the past few minutes at Sam and Mike's antics. After their ride over to bread sticks she was worried that she would be too nervous to actually hold a conversation with any of them but to her surprise they did most of the talking and let her chime in when she felt like it. Currently Sam and Mike were fighting over the 'last' breadstick and it was pure entertainment.

"They do this every time and some helpless waitress brings out two baskets full to the top so they won't have to share." Tina said to Mercedes with a slight laugh.

"I can see why but this is nothing compared to what my brothers put these poor people through."

"You have brothers? Cool, how many?" Tina asked.

"Four and an older sister… I'm the youngest." Mercedes answered right as a waitress appeared with two baskets of breadsticks.

"Are you ready to order?" The waitress asked, shooting them nervous looks.

"We're gonna share a pasta bowl as far as those two, they can't have hard carbs so salads and water." Tina responded and both Mike and Sam let out groans.

"We can share a bowl." Sam reasoned and the waitress looked frightened.

"You guys have to run three miles today, remember?" Tina reminded them and both guys groaned again.

"Wait, we're going back to school after this?" Mike questioned his girlfriend and Mercedes saw her blush which in turn made her blush as well.

Tina pinched him on his hip. "Yes we're going back, I have a chem test today." Tina replied before leaning over and whispering something in his ear that made him smile like the cheshire cat.

"Salads are fine." Mike said and the waitress didn't even wait for Sam to protest before walking away.

Sam leaned over. "They're totally skipping." He whispered to Mercedes and she giggled.

"I gathered as much." She whispered back, noticing that the couple were still talking softly among themselves. "Are you skipping?"

"Nah, I like going to practice besides I'm captain so I can't miss." He answered smiling when she looked at him before looking away nervously.

"So Mercy, what are you doing this Friday?" Tina asked after Mike stopped tickling her.

"I, ah… I'm not sure." She said softly and Sam wanted to ask again about the game but he remembered Stacey telling him not to pressure her into anything.

"You should come to the game with us! You can ride with us and sit with me until it's over!" Tina said excitedly.

"Oh… I wouldn't want to impose. I'm sure you and your friends have other stuff you do…" Mercedes replied, biting her lip.

"Nonsense, besides we always get ready and make signs, it'll be super fun to have you there!" Tina countered and Mercedes nodded slowly.

"Umm okay, yeah. Sounds fun." She said finally and Sam turned to hide his smile.

"Cool, we'll exchange numbers when we get back, let's eat!" Tina said and Sam nodded in agreement.

They all ate and talked about random things, Mercedes chiming in every so often and she found it was a lot easier to talk to Sam in a group setting and liked that he was so down to earth. She was the only underclassmen there but they kept the conversation lite and about anything but school until it was time for them to head back.

"Here give me your phone." Tina said to Mercedes and she handed her her phone. Mercedes watched as Tina typed in her number before saving it. "Come on, we gotta take a picture for the contact."

"Oh okay." Mercedes said as Tina angled the phone before pulling her close.

"Say bad bitches." Tina said and Mercedes let out a soft laugh not knowing she took the picture. "This is perfect! Sending it to myself." Tina added before doing just that.

"I'm gonna call you tonight."

"Okay." Mercedes said suddenly feeling overwhelmed but a small part of her felt excited as well.

"It was nice meeting you Merce, you should def swing by the after party this friday!" Mike said, patting her on the shoulder before he and Tina walked away.

Sam waited until they were completely gone before turning his attention to her. "So did you have fun?" He asked.

"I did, your friends are nice." She replied smiling. "I guess I'll see you at the game after all."

"Seems I will and maybe the party too."

She let out a nervous laugh. "I would have to ask my parents first…" She said before thinking and immediately felt like the lamest person ever.

Sam smiled. "Well I hope they say yes but it's okay if not… maybe we could hang out? If they say no or even if they say yes."

Mercedes blushed. "I guess that-"

"Sammy! There you are!" Jen squealed before wrapping her arms around him and Mercedes took that as her cue to head inside.

"Wait Mercedes…" Sam started before Jen kissed him. Sam quickly pushed her off of him and shot her a disgusted look. "What the hell is your problem? Jen we're over, stop imposing on my life."

Jen looked at him shocked. "Why are you acting this way?" She asked in a sad voice.

Sam rolled his eyes. "Jen, I'm not kidding, you need to stop. You look desperate and it's embarrassing." He replied before walking away.

Jen stood there annoyed as she watched Sam runoff and catch up with whoever that girl he was talking to, she shook her head before devising a plan to get him back for good.

Trouble... until next time xoxoxo
