Chapter Twelve
Mercedes groaned as she stirred from sleep, her head throbbing in pain. The sun had barely risen, a faint light spilling in from the window, casting a soft glow in the room. She felt a tickling sensation and instinctively moved her leg away, but it returned shortly after.
Curious, she pried open her eyes and saw an inquisitive snout poking out from the blankets. It was Tina's dog, his tongue darting out in quick succession. Mercedes smiled in spite of her headache, pushing the covers away and sitting up. The dog barked happily, jumping onto her lap and licking her face.
"Wow, you are a dinosaur." She mumbled, feeling like her mouth was made of sandpaper.
Her eyes traveled around the room, seeing that everyone else was still sleeping, except Tina. She tried to nudge Shadow off of her lap but he resisted. She laughed, pushing the dog away playfully. Even in her state of pain, she couldn't help but appreciate the moment. She scratched him behind the ears as he settled down, and for a few blissful minutes, the two of them were content.
Suddenly, something moved behind her and she jumped in surprise. She quickly turned around to see Tina standing there with a glass of water and two pills in her hand.
"Take these for your headache," Tina said softly as she handed them to Mercedes. After swallowing them with a few sips of water, Mercedes thanked Tina. "How are you feeling?"
Mercedes laughed before wincing. "This is my first and last hangover…"
Tina giggled. "It'll get better once you get some food, thank God Kurt for being the DD." She said and that's when Mercedes noticed Kurt fast asleep in the corner on her sofa. Harmony was at the foot of the bed, her eyes closed but her lips still curved in a peaceful smile. Sheila was passed out on the other side of the bed, slightly hanging off.
Mercedes looked at her confused before realizing she didn't remember past them rejoining the party. "Wait, I don't remember leaving."
"That's how you know you have a good time but honey, don't ever let Sheila serve drinks again." Tina said.
"No kidding." Mercedes quipped with a soft laugh.
Tina laughed and shook her head. I'm going to order some breakfast, we can be bums today" Tina said as she stood up and offered Mercedes a hand. "Are you staying tonight?"
Mercedes nodded. "I'm sure it'll be fine, just gotta ask my parents. Is everyone else staying?" She asked right before Sheila fell off the bed waking everyone else when they heard her squeal.
Mercedes and Tina both looked at each other before bursting into a fit of laughter.
Sheila groaned from the floor, not quite ready to move yet. "I am! But I need to get some more sleep first…"
Kurt opened one eye. "Yeah, me too… My parents are out of town so if that's okay with you guys, I'll stay. We can have dinner later and watch movies or something…" he suggested.
Tina nodded. "My parents are out of town too, so it should be fine."
"So much for that no boys allowed rule." Harmony joked, rolling over. "My parent's assumed I was staying the whole time anyway, so I'll be here!"
"Eh, what they don't know won't hurt them besides Kurt's a part of the crew now, can't have a slumber party without him." Sheila said, refusing to move from the floor.
Tina smiled before standing up and rolling her eyes. "Alright you lazy bones, I'm gonna go order breakfast then. You all have thirty minutes to be ready or else you don't eat for free."
Sheila groaned again but scrambled to her feet before making a beeline for the shower. Harmony mumbled something about needing coffee before stumbling off in the opposite direction. Kurt yawned loudly and made himself comfortable again while Mercedes pulled out her phone and shot her parents a text before noticing a text from Sam.
SE: hey, I had fun last night. Hope you slept okay.
She blushed, feeling herself grinning. MJ: So did I, minus the hangover lol. I hope you slept good too.
Mommy: That's fine, just make sure it's okay with her parents. I love you!
SE: I did… had fun kissing you ;)
MJ: I enjoyed kissing you too.
Mommy: Wrong person.
Mommy: We'll talk about that when you come home.
MJ: omg. Okay… love you too.
MJ: I accidentally sent my reply to my mom… she wants to talk about it when I go home
SE: lol shit!
SE: What was your reply?
MJ: I said I enjoyed kissing you too
SE: [winky-face emoji] Noted. You staying at Tina's again?
MJ: Yeah, we all are.
SE: might have to get the boys to crash.
"Last night was fun." Kurt said, watching her as she texted, smiling at her phone.
Mercedes looked up from her phone, smiling. "Ah yeah, it was pretty great until the hangover kicked in."
Kurt laughed. "Yeah, next time I'll watch your drinks."
Mercedes smirked and shrugged her shoulders. "Probably for the best, but I would do it all over again if given the chance."
Kurt smiled at her. "So what happened when you and Sam went outside?" He asked.
Mercedes smiled, feeling her face grow warm but not ready to share what happened yet. "We just got some air…" She answered.
MJ: lol too bad there's a no boys allowed rule.
He nodded with a sigh before getting up to go find his bag of clothes he'd brought with him. Mhm, you must need a lot of air." He teased, "Come on let's see how many bathrooms this castle has."
Meanwhile in the kitchen Tina was busy ordering breakfast for everyone when Sheila stumbled out of the shower, yawning as she dried herself off with a towel before finding some clean clothes to put on. Harmony soon followed, looking almost as tired as she did when she first came in but at least now she had coffee which helped her perk up slightly, much to Tina's amusement as she finished placing their order and started setting the table for breakfast.
By the time Kurt and Mercedes joined them everyone was ready to eat and they all dug into their food hungrily chattering about last night's party while they enjoyed their breakfast together.
"So where'd you and Sam go when you left?" Harmony asked, smiling mischievously.
"Yeah... you came back all giddy." Sheila chimed in, smirking.
Mercedes felt her cheeks heat up, not wanting to say anything just yet. She opened her mouth to reply but Kurt beat her to it.
"Oh yeah! They went outside for some fresh air! Right Mercedes?" Kurt said with a knowing smirk on her face which made Mercedes blush even harder before she nodded quietly in agreement.
The others laughed and exchanged glances before going back to eating their breakfast, leaving Mercedes alone with her thoughts.
After breakfast they were all ready to settle down and watch movies so they went downstairs to the theater room, floor complete with bean bags and popcorn. It was perfect for a lazy Saturday afternoon like this one.
"Sam, take the garbage out please!" His mom shouted from downstairs. He read Mercedes' last text smirking. He made the mental note to reply back before running downstairs to do as his mother asked.
"Hey, where's Stevie? I want to throw the ball around with him." Sam asked, grabbing the garbage from the can.
Mary looked at him shifting on her feet. "He's gone with your dad for the day," she replied.
Sam frowned, tossing the trash bag back into the can. "Why did you let him go?" His voice was full of anger now, and Mary knew that this had been coming for a while.
She took a deep breath before responding. ""He doesn't understand why your dad isn't staying here. He asked if he could see him today, Sam. I didn't want to say no."
Sam sighed loudly and shook his head in frustration. "And what if he has him around one of him women?" He blurted, instantly regretting it. "Mom-"
Mary placed her hand on his arm. "Your father's affairs have never been a secret but he also has never brought them to our front door and wouldn't do it now." She said softly.
Sam nodded, shoving his hands into his pockets. "Why didn't you just leave him if you knew he was sleeping around?"
Mary sighed and stepped closer to him, placing her hands on his shoulders. "I thought marriage meant forever. I was raised to believe that and that is why I stayed." She said, her voice gentle but sad.
Sam nodded slowly, understanding what his mother was saying. He had heard stories about his grandparents and how they stayed together until old age, but he knew that his dad was different. His dad wasn't the type to commit to one person for such a long time and that was why his marriage to his mom ended.
He looked at her with sympathy in his eyes. "I'm sorry you went through all this," he said quietly.
Mary smiled sadly at him as she wiped away her tears. "It's okay, I can handle it," she said softly before giving him a hug.
After their hug, Sam helped Mary clean up the kitchen before heading back upstairs. He sat down on his bed, still trying to comprehend what had happened between his parents and how it had affected their family. He grabbed his phone and sent a text message to Stacey, telling her about everything that had happened before calling Puck.
"Hey Puck, what's up?" Sam said into the phone.
"Not much," Puck replied. "Just chillin' at home. What about you?"
"Well, Tina's having a sleepover tonight and I think we should absolutely crash." He replied.
Puck laughed. "You know Tina lives in a damn castle right?"
"I'm aware but you gotta admit, It'll be fun trying to sneak in."
Puch sighed into the phone. "I mean you're not wrong but what would I get out of it? Mike has T and you got the sexy Sophomore and I can't even look at Sheila…"
Sam snickered, remembering what happened when Puck hit on Sheila before knowing she was with Jake. "Dude, he said sorry for busting your lip."
Puck rolled his eyes, his frustration evident in his voice. "Sorry doesn't cut it, Sam. Jake's lucky that I let him get away with it. I could have knocked him out cold."
"Dude, do you want to crash the slumber party or not?" He asked, still laughing.
Puck sighed, his frustration briefly forgotten as the mischievous glint returned to his eyes. "Alright, fine. Let's crash this damn slumber party. But on one condition, my friend."
Sam raised an eyebrow, intrigued by Puck's sudden change of heart. "What condition?"
Puck's lips curled into a mischievous grin. "We make it a night they'll never forget. We'll have those girls eating out of the palms of our hands."
Sam chuckled, imagining the chaos they could unleash upon Tina's luxurious castle. "Challenge accepted, my man. We'll show those girls what true partying is all about." Sam grinned triumphantly. "Meet me at the store in an hour, and we'll make sure this sleepover is one they won't forget." With a plan in motion, Sam hung up the phone and quickly got ready for the night ahead. He couldn't help but feel a surge of excitement as he imagined the chaos they were about to unleash. It was exactly what he needed to take his mind off his parents' failed marriage.
An hour later, Sam and Puck met up at the store, their eyes gleaming with mischief. The air was thick with anticipation as they picked out supplies: balloons, confetti cannons, silly string, and an assortment of snacks and drinks. They loaded their cart with the necessary ingredients for a night they hoped would go down in slumber party history.
As they made their way to the checkout counter, Puck nudged Sam playfully. "Remember that time we crashed Mr. Shue's garden party?"
Sam let out a small laugh. "How could I have forgotten that? Almost the entire staff was there, and Coach Sylvester still believes it was Mr. Shue who damaged her car!"
Puck's grin grew wider and more mischievous. "Tonight's gonna be epic," he declared, throwing the items onto the conveyor belt. "We're going to give them the scare of a lifetime!"
Sam nodded. "Yeah, but let's not forget to keep it light-hearted. We don't want to traumatize them or anything."
Puck shrugged. "Oh, come on, Sammy. A little harmless fun never hurt anyone. Plus, it'll be a memory they'll talk about for years to come."
Sam couldn't deny the allure of creating unforgettable memories. And after the emotional rollercoaster of the day, he craved the release that only laughter and adventure could provide. "Alright, Puck. Let's do this!" He said, high-fiving them. "But don't scare Mercedes too much..."
Puck raised an eyebrow. "So you and the Sophomore are a thing then? You got a crush on Mercedes?" He nudged Sam playfully.
Sam nodded, trying to play it cool. "You could say that, why do you think I'm trying to break into Tina's mansion?"
Puck smirked knowingly. "Alright, I'll go easy on her. But the others? No promises." He winked and they both burst into laughter.
"I'll pay, call Jake and Mike and have them meet us a block from Tina's place." Sam said.
"Okay, I'm gonna call my buddy Blaine too, we gotta even the odds!"
Sam pulled out his wallet and handed over a few crumpled bills to the cashier, who smiled back at him. "Thanks." he said, flashing a charming grin at the checkout woman before grabbing their bags and heading towards the door.
"Alright, who wants what on their pizza?" Tina asked as everyone stretched. They'd been watching movies, playing games and gossiping for hours.
"Pineapples!" Harmony shouted and Sheila popped up from her seat looking at her crazily.
"Miss girl, cooked fruit belongs on ham... on the fourth Thursday in November not on pizza!" She said making Mercedes and Kurt burst into a fit of laughter.
"I like Hawaiian pizza." Tina said snickering.
"Why not an assortment?" Mercedes suggested. "Supreme, pepperoni and Hawaiian? I can go in on it."
Kurt nodded. "Me too, I'm sure that pantry has a brownie mix. We can make those for dessert."
"I can make them." Mercedes said, "my mom used to bake them from scratch."
"She's not kidding, moma Lena makes the best desserts." Kurt said, "way back when me, her and Quinn used to hang out, she would show us how to make a ton of different things."
Harmony smiled. "Can you show us?" She asked.
"Of course! If you guys ever wanna come over, you can." Mercedes replied.
Kurt nodded. "Her mom loves guests, even if she's not there moma Lena will still be happy to see you."
"Then it's official, the next slumber party is at Cedes!" Sheila said. "Now, let's get the pizzas ordered and Cedes in the kitchen making brownies, come on Kurt, I think the outdoor freezer has ice cream."
Kurt beamed. "I just love how she takes control of everything." He quipped, getting up and following Sheila while Mercedes and stretched.
"Wanna help me make the brownies?" She asked Harmony.
Harmony smiled and nodded. "Sure, I'd love to help," she replied, excited to learn from Mercedes. "Do you need anything, T?"
Tina just smiled. "Nope, all good on this end. I'm gonna get the pizza's ordered and take Shadow for a quick walk." She replied before walking away, happy to see everyone meshing so well.
In the kitchen, Mercedes pulled out a large mixing bowl and started gathering the ingredients. Harmony watched, her eyes widening with anticipation as they began their baking adventure. She couldn't help but feel a sense of comfort and belonging as she watched Mercedes effortlessly gather the ingredients for the brownies.
"Alright, Harmony, let's make the best brownies you've ever tasted!" she exclaimed, her voice filled with enthusiasm.
Mercedes handed Harmony a spatula and said, "Alright, first, we need to melt the chocolate. Can you chop it into small pieces while I prepare the other ingredients?" Harmony nodded eagerly and began chopping the chocolate into tiny chunks.
Sam tapped his foot impatiently as they waited for Jake, Mike, and Blaine to arrive. Each passing second only intensified their eagerness to create chaos at the slumber party. Finally, the sound of approaching footsteps broke through the tension-filled silence. The reinforcements had arrived.
Sam and Puck welcomed Jake, Mike, and Blaine with wide grins, their eyes full of mischief. The five of them huddled together, whispering their plan under the cover of darkness.
"T just mentioned she's taking Shadow for a walk, so we have approximately fifteen minutes to slip inside undetected before she returns. The gate will be unlocked and the alarm is disabled. If we're doing this, now is the time!" "Mike said, putting his phone away.
Blaine nodded. "Since you know her house the best, we'll follow your lead."
Jake grinned eagerly. "And once we're inside, we'll split up just like we planned." He added, rubbing his hands together. "But umm, Puck don't look at my girl."
Puck rolled his eyes, "Dude, now is not the time. Alright Chang, let's go!"
"We need to make this slumber party unforgettable," Sam said, his voice low and filled with anticipation. "We're going to unleash chaos like they've never seen before."
Mike bounced on his feet, amping himself up. "alright let's do this!"
With adrenaline pumping through their veins, the group approached Tina's house stealthily. They slipped through the unlocked gate and entered the yard, moving like agents on a secret mission.
As they reached the back door, Sam turned to his friends and whispered, "Remember, stick to the plan and don't get caught." The others nodded in agreement.
Tina's house was buzzing with excitement as the slumber party was in full swing. The girls were fully engrossed in conversations and giggles as they mixed together ingredients for the brownies, unaware of the impending chaos. Sheila and Kurt joined Mercedes and Harmony after getting the ice cream from the outdoor freezer and where currently helping them with the brownies. T
Mike nodded them away from the kitchen down a long hallway. "Okay, we need to hide before T and Shadow gets back. The best place is downstairs, Shadow doesn't go down there." He whispered.
"Lead the way!" Puck said noticing his friend shifting. "What bro?"
"We need to go through the kitchen to get there."
Blaine snickered. "Amateurs. Jake text Sheila."
Jake pulled out his phone. "And say what?"
Blaine took the phone before quickly shooting off a text and handing it back. "Now wait..."
They stood still waiting before a bout out laughter could be heard from the kitchen."What did you send?" Jake asked, looking down at the message.
JP: Send boobs!
Jake let out a heavy sigh and hung his head. "She's definitely going to cut me off now, thanks..." he muttered sarcastically.
"Relax, she won't. They'll all be too busy following her into the bathroom while she does it," Blaine reassured confidently. "Where's the closest bathroom?"
A mischievous smirk tugged at Mike's lips. "Opposite hallway, just off of the kitchen," he replied, and as if on cue, a group of giggling girls and Kurt emerged from the kitchen and shuffled towards the bathroom.
"Now!" Puck exclaimed, and they all pushed Mike forward so he could lead them downstairs. The group raced through the hall and kitchen, each taking a moment to sneak a taste of the delicious brownie batter sitting on the counter before continuing on to the theater room downstairs.
Out of breath and filled with excitement, they all looked around the large room wondering what they should do first. Puck let out a low whistle. "This is gonna be awesome," he said, grinning from ear to ear.
Mike nodded in agreement. "So, what do we do first?" he asked.
Sam smiled. "We gotta spook them... and I think I know how." He replied, pulling his phone out. "What's the wifi info?"
