As the guardian of the miraculous, it was Marinette's responsibility to listen to the needs and wants of the kwamis. Today was the day that the blunette was going to meet with Master Fu and the kwamis were rambling on in her ears about how they wanted to go with her.
"It's not fair!" Trixx crossed their arms.
"Please?" Xuppu pleaded, holding his little arms up in a manner.
Marinette sighed. She raised her arms slightly. "You know you guys can't go. Remember that after he gave up being a guardian, he ended up losing all memory involving the miraculous. Master Fu is like everyone else now he can't know about the miraculous or my secret identity, or any of you kwamis. It's for everyone's safety."
She grabbed her bag. "Come on Tikki. Let's go."
Together, the kwamis said, "No, we want to go together, this is unfair, we want to go!"
Ziggy, "Why can't Tikki go and we can't?"
Tikki understood why they were really upset. "Sorry, but you know I can't leave Marinette. She may need to transform.
Trixx, "What if we all hide so he doesn't see us? That way it can be alright, right?" The fox kwami asked Marinette.
Orikko on the other hand was narrowing their eyes.
Daizzi, "We just want to see if he is doing well."
Xuppu closed his eyes, reminiscing old memories. "He took care of us for over a hundred years, you know!"
"I know. But, you all need to let him start with his life again with his soulmate." She placed her hands over her chest and gave the kwamis a look of care and worry. "Now it's my turn to take care of you."
Wayzz made his way to the bluenette. "Marinette, even so, you knew Master Fu trusted me to help take care of the miraculous box! I was more than a kwami to him! I was a friend!" The poor turtle kwami lowered his head. "I miss him so much!"
"Look," she gently pulled Wayzz towards her chest. "I understand, but..." she sighed softly. "Okay, you can go."
As for the other kwamis, Marinette was met with complaints as to why Wayzz could go and they couldn't.
She easily became overwhelmed by their disappointed and angry faces. "But, I can't take you all together!"
The kwamis begged and begged.
The bluenette still felt pretty overwhelmed as she looked between all of them. She struggled to come up with a response. "It's because... uhm..." she placed her arms against her sides, but her elbows were up with her hands out. "The miraculous box needs to be protected, that's why!"
Trixx slowly floated up to Marinette's face. "So, what you're saying is that if one protects the box, the others can go?" The fox kwami floated from one side to the other with a smile.
"Ah?" She wondered how these kwamis were trying to get around her explanations. "What? Of course not!"
All at once, the kwamis began to demand.
In Marinette's ear, it sounded like yelling.
"This!"
"Let's do this!"
"This!"
Xuppu raised his arms slightly as he looked around, "How do we choose which one stays?"
"Fate will choose," Sass voiced simply.
Daizzi and Xuppu looked at each other before bringing their attention back to Sass. Together, they said, "Let's do kwamidunite!"
As those words fell from their little mouths, the bluenette raised an eyebrow, before both her eyebrows raised in disbelief about what she heard. "Kwami what?"
"Kwamidunite!" Mullo said rather proudly. The mouse kwami said a few words that Marinette couldn't follow at first. However, near the end, Mullo pointed at Marinette, which was followed by "The special chosen one is, you! Marinette stays!"
All of the kwamis cheered as they headed towards the window.
Seeing this, the bluenette managed to block their path. "Oh, no you don't!" Her arms were open wide. A look of frustration had crossed her face. "That's cheating! Besides, I'm the guardian! I get to decide, period!"
Mullo turned her head slightly to look at Xuppu. "Hm... she leaves us no choice."
"Operation: kwami baby doll eyes!" Xuppu's voice held dedication in his tone.
"Huh?"
What followed after was not what Marientte ever expected. The kwamis grouped with these unhinged eyes that were to represent them begging in a way she found similar to dogs. "Please?" All the kwamis said together.
A sigh escaped from her. She was almost tempted to say how she admired their dedication, but she held herself back. "Fine." She eyed each of the kwamis with their big eyes. "Any kwami... willing to stay?"
"You know, she's right."
"Huh?" Everyone aside from the one speaking voiced. All eyes turned to the one who had spoken.
Barkk was simply minding her own business. She was simply watching a movie on Marinette's computer. A roll of thread, while she sat next to the mouse, kept her supported in a way. "What if an akumatized villain or senti-monster were to show up? You all can go, but I'll stay here and keep guard."
Barkk looked back up at the screen to see a knight in black armor raise his mighty sword and say "En garde, my lord!"
"Thank you, Barkk." Marinette had given her thanks by showing it even though the dog kwami wasn't paying attention. She had placed her right hand over the left side of her chest for a moment before going over to grab her pink backpack. She already had the main compartment open and held it out to the kwamis who so desperately wanted to go. "Come on, everyone in here."
The kwamis cheered excitedly as they all entered the backpack.
Marinette gave the kwamis a stern look. "But, I'm going to warn you now, I don't want to hear a peep." She closed the backpack as the kwamis cheered excitedly. She put her backpack on. Then, she headed towards the trapdoor leading her downstairs from her room. "I hear peeping." Marinette sighed as she exited her own room.
Once she was downstairs, she quickly grabbed the large picnic basket sitting atop of her kitchen table.
Thankfully, the kwamis had quieted as Marinette headed straight towards the train station where she was going to meet someone.
On the way there, she had bumped into someone else. Someone that made her heart flutter, but she wasn't going to say that out loud.
"Hey Ma-ma-marinette."
She felt her face heat up. Was he teasing her again? How... It made her blush. "Oh hey, Luka! Where are you headed?"
"I just finished running some errands for my mom and I was just about to head back home. I see you're carrying a picnic basket. Where are you headed off to?"
The blunette held the large picnic basket with both of her hands and stood in front of the blue-haired boy. "I was going to the train station to pick someone up for a date since it's so nice out. It's not for me if that's what you're wondering." She opened the picnic basket lid just a bit to show a bunch of pastries. Mainly just cakes. "Take one for yourself."
Luka chuckled a little. He reached in and took one out.
"Would you like to come with me? I'm picking someone up who's been a big help to me before I became the guardian."
"Sure. I'll be more than happy to come with."
The kwamis seemed to recognize Luka's voice. They excitedly chatted away, but Marinette shushed them as she put a smile on her face. "Most of the kwamis are with me." She started heading in the direction of the train station. "Barkk is watching the miracle box since the kwamis want to go see this person so badly." Her eyes kind of drifted towards the ground. "He was just as important to them as he was to me. I wish I could thank him more."
The blue-haired guitarist gave Marinette a sad look. "What's preventing you?"
"Well, when a guardian relinquishes their title of guardian to another person, they end up losing their memory of the miraculous. After all, no one can know. The secrets die within them." She didn't turn to look at him. She could only assume that he looked or felt horrified because that could happen to her if she gave up her title as guardian. "Don't worry," she began. "As long as I can rely on you, I'll be fine." She wanted to add to that, but she stopped herself. She didn't want to get close again. Not yet. It was just too early.
Luka didn't say anything. He only watched Marinette as they both stopped on the waiting platform for the train.
She set down the picnic basket and hummed softly. She hummed his melody as a way to comfort herself.
He recognized the tune right away.
The train came by and came to a stop. The doors of the train slid open and out came a whole lot of people.
Marinette had stopped humming. She turned her head to look behind her to see if the person in question would come out on that side, but she didn't see anyone. Then, she looked in front.
Out came the person of interest. A short old man with a red Hawaiian shirt and khakis. And a slightly taller older woman wearing a yellow dress with a tan covered jacket over.
The older man held paint supplies in one hand while he held out his hand for the woman. Both turned to look at Marinette and Luka as they smiled gently.
Marinette smiled.
Both sides walked to each other.
The blunette held out one of her arms as she embraced the older woman. "Hello, Marianne."
"Hi, Marinette. It's good to see you again." Marianne hugged her back. They parted from their hug and she turned to the older man and asked him a question. "Do you remember her, my love?" She looked between the older man and Marinette. "It's the young lady who found you after your boating accident. It's what erased your memory."
The old man kind looked at his love for Marinette. A small smile was on his face. "Mm," he replied.
The bluenette set the picnic basket on the ground and embraced the old man. "It's good to see you again, Master... I mean Mr. Fu!"
"Dear child, you brought me together with the love of my life." He wrapped his free arm around Marianne's shoulder. "I'll never be able to thank you."
Marinette smiled. She then looked back to Luka. "Oh! I have someone I want you to meet." She motioned for Luka to come over, to which he did. She introduced him to the both of them, to which he shook their hands.
Then, he let Marinette know that he was going to go home for now to give Marinette some time with Marianne and Fu.
The bluenette waved goodbye to him. She then brought her attention back to the two older lovers. "There's a good spot to paint the Seine if you'd like, Mr. Fu."
"Yes, that would be wonderful."
So, she led them to a green bench where the Seine was. She opened the large picnic basket that separated her from the older couple and took out some pastries. She handed them to Fu who shared the other one with his love.
"My life in London has been wonderful."
Marianne took it graciously. "Can you believe he discovered a passion for painting?"
Unbeknownst to Marinette, Wayzz popped his head out from the backpack.
"Actually as a thank you for helping me," Wang Fu began. He turned the other way to kind of face his love and take something out of a large blue bag. "I wanted to give you this painting." He handed it over to the blunette.
"Thank you..." Marinette said slowly. She wasn't sure what she was looking at. "It's really... Am I holding it the right way?"
Fu chuckled. "Yes. I'm not sure what it's supposed to represent, but"
The blunette barely registered what was going on until she noticed Wayzz slowly crawling toward Fu. She tried grabbing for him, but he seemed to be just out of her reach.
"When I think of you, it's what I see. So there you go." He also noticed Wayzz on the ground. He gently picked up the kwami with one hand and touched the top of his head with the other. "What's this? What a cute doll. Is it yours?" He held out the kwami.
She laughed a little. It was nervous and she hoped they couldn't tell. "Yes," she reached out to grab Wayzz. "It must have fallen out while I was giving you both some cake." She shoved the turtle kwami into the bag.
"He touched me! He touched me!" the kwami said excitedly.
To keep up appearances, she took Wayzz out of her backpack and showed him again. "And he talks too! Amazing right?" She laughed nervously once again. "Uh... he touched me, he touched me." she tried to mimic Wayzz's voice. Again, she laughed nervously before placing the kwami back into her backpack. "So, what are your plans for this trip in Paris?"
"Paint, of course." Fu got up with a cane and walked to the paint supplies he had set on the other side of Marinette. "Montmarte, , the banks of the Seine. Is there any better place to paint than Paris?" He got himself set up by placing the paint stand in front of his love and Marinette by standing a few feet away from them. He set a blank canvas on the slanted part and took out a paintbrush. Seems like he already had his paints ready and started painting away. "Now, now. Don't mind me.
Marinette and Marianne chuckled.
The bluenette turned to Marianne and put her hand in the picnic basket. "Want another slice of cake?"
"Please." the older woman reached out for the slice of cake.
