At long last, the time has finally come. Derek was heading off for Hogwarts. He had a trolley with all of his things he needed for hit time at Hogwarts. Orphelia was inside her cage and just looked around as people went by. Juan was taking him to King's Cross to get him to Platform 9¾. Winston was going to meet them there because he couldn't be seen.
When they got to King's Cross station, Derek was looking for platform 9¾, but nothing to be seen.
"Alright Derek, your platform is this way." Juan said as they looked right at a wall between platforms nine and ten.
"What…?" Derek asked with sheer confusion.
"I'll show you. Trust me, you'll be fine." Juan said as he ran towards the wall. Derek was shocked to see him vanish right through it.
Derek shook his head a bit while he saw his father figure went through a magical gateway. Derek began to run towards the gateway and waited for a collision, and Orphelia would get a concussion.
Except…he didn't feel anything in terms of hitting a wall.
Derek looked around and he saw a large red train and saw Platform 9¾ on a sign next to it. Derek was looking at it with amazement.
"Master Derek, welcome to the Hogwarts Express." Winston said as he was standing next to Juan.
"Well Derek, this is as far as we go. And remember, be respectful and behave yourself." Juan said as he knelt down to Derek's height.
"I won't let you down Juan. I'll make you and my ancestor's proud." Derek said as he hugged both of them.
"I know you will my boy." Juan said as he and Winston returned the hug.
After they broke the hug, Derek entered the Hogwarts Express while his things were being loaded onto the train as well. He along with everyone else waved goodbye to their friends and family that dropped them off for them to go to Hogwarts.
Before Derek settled into a compartment, he changed into his robes. He sat by a window in a compartment by himself as he watched the muggle world leaving him. He smiled in excitement as he was heading for Hogwarts.
That was until...
"Excuse me. Do you mind if we join you? Everywhere else is filling up." A red-haired girl asked.
"Sure. Come on in." Derek said.
The red-haired girl entered, followed by a long dirty blonde girl. The red-haired girl had freckles on her face, brown eyes, light skin, and had a long-striped sleeve shirt with red pants. She had flat heels and had on a long brown bag.
The dirty blonde-haired girl, on the other hand, had silvery eyes, light skin, a purple buttoned up long sleeve shirt, and blue pants. She wore red and black checkered Chuck Taylor shoes and wore, to Derek's confusion, butterbeer cork necklace and dirigible plum earrings.
"You must be a first year. I'm Ginny Weasley, and this is Luna Lovegood." Ginny said as they sat across form him.
"Derek Night. It's a pleasure to meet you. You also first years?" Derek asked.
"Second years." Ginny answered.
"Your eyes are very beautiful. Have they always been that color?" Luna asked as she took noticed of his eye color.
"Now that Luna's mentioning it, I can't say that I've ever seen such beauty in your eyes." Ginny said as she, too took noticed.
"Yep. They've been like this for as far back as I can remember. According to my godfather, I was born with them. They're magically gifted as well. It's…kinda complicated." Derek said.
Many hours went by and Derek bonded with Ginny and Luna really well. They became his first friends. They got a few things from a trolly a couple times for the ride, so they didn't starve to death. During that time, rain was pouring outside. Derek had a soft stop for rainy weather.
Suddenly, they felt the train coming to an abrupt stop while on a bridge.
"We can't be there yet. It doesn't take this long." Ginny said with confusion, especially since the lights started flickering.
"Maybe we've broken down or the bridge is out or something." Luna thought.
Derek looked outside and was seeing if he could see what was up. As he was looking, the air around them began to get colder. The three of them then saw the window was freezing up. Derek felt like his happiness began to vanish from him.
Just then, they saw some silhouette of a tall, floating figure hovering outside of their compartment. It then stretched out its long, skeletal fingers to the door and the door slowly opened. The fingers gripped the door and it fully opened.
The hooded figured looked into the compartment. The three of them, especially Ginny, was horrified by its presence. It looked at Derek for a brief moment, causing his blood to freeze up from the feeling that he was building.
Ginny began to panic even more, especially from her previous year at Hogwarts, something that the creature sensed. Just then, the creature began to suck something out of Ginny. Derek and Luna was watching as Ginny was becoming a vegetable.
Just then, Derek grew angry and began to stand up.
"HEY!" Derek screamed at it. The creature looked at Derek as his eyes began to glow. "LEAVE MY FRIEND ALONE!" He screamed.
Just then, Derek fired his light purple colored Prismatic Pulse beam at the creature. Luna and Ginny covered their ears from the ringing sound that came from Derek's attack. The creature was forced onto a wall as it bellowed in pain. Derek cut off the attack at it, only to fire another shot at it as it was getting up.
The creature then began to fly away. More of the creatures saw what was happening and they retreated. Derek also saw a bright white light that came from a further compartment as another was forced out. The creatures exited the train, and they flew off. Derek fired off more Prismatic Pulse's at them until they were out of sight.
"Get out of here." Derek growled a bit before feeling the train resuming its movement. Derek entered the compartment and saw Ginny crying her eyes out. "Ginny!" Derek yelled in fright as he got next to her.
Luna, who was holding Ginny, looked at Derek with shock.
"I…take it that's something you've been able to do all your life?" Luna asked with wide eyes.
Derek looked at Luna for a brief moment before saying, "No. I've learned how to do that not long ago. It's complicated."
Just then, a long hair girl with a long sleeve shirt, blue pants, flat heels, and had a long-strapped bag on her shoulder entered the compartment.
"Ginny!" She yelled as she ran to her and hugged her.
"Her-mione." Ginny sobbed as she held the girl named Hermione and cried into her shoulder.
Derek sat in front of them while Luna sat next to Derek.
"You must be a friend to Ginny." Luna said to Hermione.
Hermione looked at her with a small smile.
"That's right. You must by Loony Love-whoops! I mean Luna Lovegood, right?" Hermione asked while she corrected herself rather quickly.
"That's right. And this is Derek Night, a first year." Luna said.
Derek and Hermione looked at each other. Derek smiled and slightly nodded at her.
"Pleasure." Hermione said.
"Same. Anyone who is a good friend of Ginny is an acquaintance of mine." Derek said.
After some time when night fell, the Hogwarts Express arrived at the station outside of Hogwarts.
"RIGHT THEN! FIRS YEARS! THIS WAY PLEASE!" Someone was shouting nearby while everyone was getting off the train. Derek looked towards where the voice came from and saw a giant man calling out to them. "Right then. This way to the boats. Come on, follow me!" The giant said.
They followed him onto a narrowed pathway to the boats. Derek got onto a boat with three other students. They began to make their way down the lake. Until at last, they saw the castle.
"Wicked…" Derek said with amazement at the very sight of his ancestor's creation.
They made it to a pathway that led up to a large pair of doors. The giant banged on it a few times. Just then, the doors opened, and they saw an elderly woman wearing mostly green colored robes, a long black pointed hat, and wore small spectacles.
"The firs years Professor McGonagall." The giant said.
"Thank you Hagrid. I'll take them from here." McGonagall said. The giant Hagrid left, and McGonagall took the first years further into the castle. She then led them to a large pair of doors where they were made to wait.
"Welcome to Hogwarts. In a moment, you'll be joining your fellow classmates. However, before you take your seats, you'll be taking part of the Sorting Ceremony where you'll be sorted into your houses. They include Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw and Slytherin. During your stay, your triumphs will earn you points, while any rule breaking will lose you points. At the end of the year, the house with the most points will earn the House Cup." McGonagall explained.
Derek smiled at the mentioning of her ancestor's name. He hoped that he will make them proud, just like he said to Juan and Winston before he departed onto the Hogwarts Express.
"The Sorting Ceremony will begin momentarily. Please wait here until I collect you." She said before she left to go further into the castle.
Derek and the other students looked around and saw how big these corridors were. Derek was going to be wondering what more secrets this place has to offer.
Just then, people began to scream in fright.
Derek looked at the source where people were screaming at. Derek saw a few ghosts floating in the air. One of them was a monk that was a bit on the fat side holding a mug. One had a large wig and wore a baron getup that was covered in blood and held a sword. Another had a large tunic with a large ruff around his neck. And finally, a female ghost was next to the previous ghost mentioned that looked very familiar to Derek.
The ghost took noticed of Derek and smiled big. She flew towards him and many students stepped away.
"Whoa hi!" Derek said with shock.
"Hello Derek. I've been waiting for you." She said.
Derek immediately knew the voice.
"Helena!? Helena is that you?" Derek asked as his eyes widen more.
"Bingo." She said.
"Hey-whoa!" Derek yelled as he attempted to hug the ghost but went right through her and fell. "Yowie!" Derek grunted in pain.
Helena placed her hands on her mouth and gasped while several students laughed at him.
"Now, now first years. There's no need to be so rude if our dear boy has been greeted by a supposedly relative." The third mentioned ghost said as he joined Helena.
"Don't worry. I'm okay heh, heh." Derek said as he himself chuckled a bit. Helena breathed a sigh of relief.
"Move along please!" McGonagall's voice yelled out.
One by one, the ghost flew off.
"I'll be seeing you soon Derek." Helena said before giving him a wink and flew off.
"What are you doing on the ground?" McGonagall asked while looking at him.
"Well you see, I saw a ghost that was my ancestor, I tried to give her a hug, but it ended about as bad as it sounds." Derek said as he got up and straightened his robes. She looked at him with a raised eyebrow and Derek chuckled shyly.
"I…see. Well anyway, we're ready for you now. Follow me please." McGonagall said as she led the first years further into the castle.
They arrived at a large pair of doors and they magically swung opened. When they entered, they saw four long tables filled with students. There were a few long tables at the other end for the professors. They were about a hundred candles floating above them underneath a bewitched ceiling that was meant to look like the night sky.
In front of the students was a stool that had a large, pointed hat on it. McGonagall got up and stood next to the hat.
"Now when I call your name, you will come forth and you shall be sorted via Sorting Hat." McGonagall said as she pulled out a long parchment that had a list of the first years.
Derek waited as McGonagall was going in alphabetical order of the first years that were being sorted. Derek took noticed that the Sorting Hat was looking into the student's inner mind to find out where they are meant to be sorted.
'I mustn't overreact. I must prove that I am not a coward in front of all of these people.' He thought to himself.
Derek had never been in front of a large crowd before. It was only a matter of minutes when he would be called out.
Derek was one of the last few to be sorted until…
"Night, Derek." McGonagall called out.
Derek's heart twisted a bit when she called him. He took a deep breath and walked towards the stool. He sat down and she placed the old hat onto his head.
"Ah! What is this?" The Sorting Hat asked with shock. "This is very difficult. A lot of courage I see, accepting and talented in many a things, and a very powerful mind where even a fool would question. Oh dear, this one is very hard to decipher." The Sorting Hat continued to speak.
Derek sat there for over five minutes, revealing to be a Hatstall. He heard the hat mumbling between putting him in Gryffindor, Hufflepuff or Ravenclaw. Derek then closed his eyes and thought about how his parents would feel if they saw him being here this long.
"What's this? This presence I see in this one. I thought this seemed familiar. It's similar to…AH! That's it! Bloodline it is! RAVENCLAW!" The Sorting Hat shouted the house name he was meant to be in.
The table the second from the left exploded with cheers as their house was called for Derek. Derek smiled and left to join his new fellow Ravenclaw students. As he sat down, Luna, who sat next to him, gave him a quick hug and he returned it.
Just then, Helena soared towards him and placed both hands on his shoulders. Derek felt a chilly feeling from her touch, but that didn't bother him as he smiled bigger at his ancestor, who smiled back at him.
After a little while longer, the Sorting Ceremony has concluded. McGonagall put the stool, the Sorting Hat, and the parchment away and rejoined the staff.
Just then, a man with a long grey cloak with long hair and beard, half-moon spectacles, a plump hat, and had a few rings on his fingers walked towards a podium. This was Albus Dumbledore, the headmaster.
"Welcome, welcome to another year at Hogwarts. Now I like to say a few words before we get into our delicious feast. First off, let me introduce to you all two new members of our teaching staff this year. For the Defense Against the Dark Arts class, we have Professor R. J. Lupin, who has agreed to take upon the position. Good luck Professor." Dumbledore said as he presented the new teacher.
Lupin had on a green, rather worn out suit, slightly short brown hair, a small moustache, and a few scars on his face. Everyone applauded as he stood up and slightly bowed to everyone.
"Next, Professor Silvanus Kettleburn, the Care of Magical Creatures professor who has been with us for many, many years has decided to retire to live the rest of his life with his remaining limbs." Dumbledore continued. A few students, counting Derek, gave a bit of a chuckle. "Fortunately, I am delighted to announce that his position will be taken over by our very own Gamekeeper, Rubeus Hagrid." Dumbledore finished as he presented to the half giant mentioned earlier.
A majority of students applauded for Hagrid when his name was announced. He seemed to be heavily loved by the Gryffindors.
"And finally, until further notice by the Ministry of Magic, Hogwarts will be hosting to the Dementors of Azkaban." Dumbledore continued after the applauding subsided.
"Dementors?" Derek asked himself quietly. 'Plutonia, was that the creature that attacked Ginny on the train ride here?' Derek asked her.
'Indeed. Nasty creatures they are.' Plutonia said.
"The Dementors will be guarding the entrances of the grounds as guards for the safety of our schools while they are on the hunt for Sirius Black. Whilst I was informed, they will not intervene with our day to day activities, though they will attack those that get in their way of their line of duty. It is not in the nature of a Dementor to understand plead and understanding. Therefore, I speak out to all prefects and Head Boys and Girls of all houses to have no one leave the castle without permission nor to mess around with Dementors." Dumbledore explained more.
Derek began to get a bit angry at what that Dementor did to Ginny on the train. It caused his eyes to glow a bit from it.
'Easy now Derek. Easy now.' Plutonia said in a calming voice.
Derek calmed down and his eyes stopped glowing. Little did he know that Dumbledore and a couple other staff members saw that.
"But with all that importance set aside. Let the feast…begin." Dumbledore finished.
Just then, the golden plates all around began to fill up with delicious foods, drinks and more. Derek began to dig in with the rest of his fellow Ravenclaws.
"My compliments to the cooks." Derek said with excitement before getting into a chicken leg.
Meanwhile, Dumbledore was constantly eyeing Derek when he saw the eyes glow. He was taken aback to that night years ago when he interviewed the Divination professor Sybil Trelawney for the position.
Flashback
Dumbledore had just finished with the interview with Trelawney after she foretold of the one with the power to vanquish the dark lord.
Just as he was beginning to leave, he heard Trelawney go through another trance.
"A PEACEKEEPER OF UNTOLD POWERS APPROACHES! THE NIGHT OF HORROR, THE NIGHT OF THE DARK LORD MEETS HIS EQUAL! EYES AS BRIGHT AS AMETHYST! THE ORIGNIALS ONES HEIR RETURNS AND LEGACY OF PEACEKEEPING BETWEEN MUGGLE AND WIZARDING WORLDS SHALL BE BALANCED ONCE AGAIN!" Trelawney screamed before she collapsed onto a table.
Dumbledore went to her and adjusted herself when she came around.
"My dear lady. Are you alright?" He asked with concern.
Trelawney looked at him with confusion.
"I'm so sorry dear professor. I must've dozed off from the interview. Did you say something?" She asked.
Dumbledore was processing with all that has happened.
"Yes. I must agree that this was rather exhausting. I will get in touch with you as soon as possible Sybil." Dumbledore said.
"Of course, Professor Dumbledore." Trelawny said.
Flashback ends
"So, he must be the one Sybil foretold. We'll have to keep a closer eye on him." Dumbledore said to himself quietly.
After over an hour, it was time for everyone to head for their common rooms. One of the Ravenclaw prefects named Penelope Clearwater escorted them to the 5th floor from where the grand staircase was at. All the first years were overwhelmed by the changing of the staircases.
They all then approached a large door that has no doorknob, but a doorknocker in the shape of an eagle. Penelope approached the door and banged on it with the knocker. The knocker gazed at Penelope.
"Where was Rowena Ravenclaw born?" The knocker asked.
"Rowena Ravenclaw was born in the glens of Scotland." Penelope answered.
"Correct. You may proceed." The knocker spoke and the doors opened.
They all entered and saw a beautiful circular room with many antiques and statues. There were bookcases, and many silks that were colored blue and bronze. There was even a statue of Rowena Ravenclaw in a corner. There was a library for them to read and study from and had windows that had a great view.
"Everyone, gather round here." Penelope called out. All the first years did just that while still looking around. "Welcome to the Ravenclaw Common Room. The dormitories are downstairs past the library where the boys are on the left, and the girls are on the right. Your belongings have already been brought up, and your robes are already presented with your belongings. Good luck with this year, and if you ever need advice for anything, just ask us prefects and our Head Boy and Girl." Penelope explained.
Derek and the other first years settled into their dormitories. Derek got into his sleepwear before going over to a window and just looked beyond the Forbidden Forest and gazed at the stars.
"Too exited to sleep Derek?" Helena's voiced spoke just behind him.
Derek looked back and saw Helena right there.
"Guilty as charged." Derek answered.
"Well you will need to get some sleep pretty quickly. Oh, and just between us." Helena began to whisper to him into his ears. "There are lots of secret passageways around the school. I'll fill you in more of where they're at, and what to expect." Helena continued.
"That could come in handy. Thanks Helena. I'll see you in the morning." Derek said as he was getting up.
"Sleep well Derek. You got a big day to start tomorrow." Helena said just before Derek left towards the boy's dormitory.
Derek's first day of Hogwarts is about to begin tomorrow. He couldn't wait to begin his education in magic and continue in his parent's footsteps before him. What magic, and secrets will he learn? How many more friends will he make? Find out more as the term begins as the story continues.
Another chapter done. Thank you so much for reading. We get into Derek's first year at Hogwarts. There is one quick thing that I want to point out. I will only include brief learnings in most subjects, with the exceptions of two maybe three classes. Other than that, we get into the first year. TheD-Rock900 is signing off, see you guys next time.
