Derek woke up and got ready for the beginning of the new school year at Hogwarts. He was still a bit disappointed that he couldn't tryout for Quidditch that year due to the Triwizard Tournament being the main event that year.
While getting into his first week, we began to remember something. He realized that he never talked to Professor Binns about what he knew about his people. During his free time, he went to see if Binns was available, and not teaching. Fortunately, he was able to find out that he was done for the day. He entered his office and approached the ghost.
"Excuse me, professor?" Derek asked.
"Wha-what!?" Binns yelled a bit in surprise as he kinda nodded off and woke up. He then looked down and saw Derek. "Ah, Mr. Night. To what do I owe for this visit?" He asked.
"I need help with a bit of history. What do you know about a group of warlocks called the Amethyst Eye Warlocks?" He asked him.
Binns froze up a bit when he asked that question. He thought about it for a bit.
"I will admit. That is something that I haven't been asked in a very long time. There was one person before you while I was still alive who asked that question, but she practically vanished without a trace after graduation. There is a book in the library, more specifically in the Restricted Section." Binns explained.
"I feared as much." Derek said while thinking about what could be back there.
"If you wish to look into this book, you will need permission from one of us, but I must warn you," Binns said before leaning forward and looking deep into his eyes. "The contents of that book may be disturbing. If you still wish to learn the truth, or so what is believed in the pages, then I'll permit you to check the book called, 'Ancient Warlocks: The Fall from Power.'" He finished.
Derek thought about this. It was true that he wanted to know more about his ancestry a bit more. But on the other hand, if it was in the Restricted Section, then it might be a bad idea.
"Alright. May I have a quick look through that book?" Derek asked him.
"Very well. You have been warned." Binns said before using his magic to sign a permission slip to give to Derek. "Give this to Madam Pince. She will get the book for you." He said while giving the slip to him.
"Thank you and thank you for taking some time for the help." Derek said before leaving.
'Are you sure about this? Something tells me that this might be a bad idea.' Plutonia spoke to him.
'This might give me a good excuse to find out what the others had to say about them. If what you once told me earlier was true, and theirs are the same, then I might use it to my advantage.' Derek answered.
He entered the library where he passed by Hermione doing some deep study on her work. She saw him go by and went to Madam Pince, who was overlooking some other students and went back to work.
"Excuse me, Madam Pince?" Derek asked in a quiet enough voice so she could hear him and gained her attention.
"What do you need?" She asked.
"A book from the Restricted Section. Here's the permission slip." He said while giving it to her.
She took it and looked at it. Like with Professor Binns, she froze up at what she was looking at. She did a bit of a double-take at him, and the permission slip. She then turned towards him.
"Very well. I hope you know what you are doing because from what I remember about this book, it is not for the faint of heart. What is it that you are trying to look for?" Pince asked him.
"My ancestor's known history." He answered while making his eyes glow, making her look at them.
"Wait here." Pince said before she went off towards the Restricted Section.
Derek sat at a nearby table and waited. As he waited, Hermione joined him with a concerned look.
"Hello, Derek. How was your summer?" She asked him.
"Uneventful. Mainly just remained at my place in Bristol. I heard all that went down at the Quidditch World Cup." He said.
"I was there. It was horrible. The Dark Mark, the Death Eaters, the torture…" She was saying until she stopped herself. "Anyway, that book you're getting in the Restricted Section. You know it could do terrible things to your mind, right?" She asked him.
"Not unless what I see are lies. That book is the only credible source I was informed about that may contain my ancestor's long-forgotten history." Derek said.
"Here it is, but you cannot leave the library with it." Pince said while giving him an old, dusty book.
"Thank you, Madam Pince. I'll return it to you in person when I am done." Derek said while taking the book. After Madam Pince walked off, Derek got up. "Excuse me." He said to Hermione before going off to a corner to look through the book.
He opened the book and began scrolling through it. There was a lot of dark history within the book, and just as the name suggests, there were powerful wizards and witches that fell from power. It took him some doing, but he eventually found them.
'There it is. The founders of the Wizarding World.' Plutonia said when found what he was looking for.
"'Of the many wizards and witches known throughout time, there were none more powerful, and dangerous than the Amethyst Eyed Warlocks: said to be the ones that discovered magic millennia ago. They were known for having magic that was said to be as powerful as the gods themselves and was abominations.'" Derek read while scrolling through the lines.
'Wait a minute. Go to the next page. Something isn't right.' Plutonia said while she noticed something from the corner of Derek's eye.
'What's wrong?' He asked her when he looked. He then saw a picture of two Amethyst Eyed witches using what appeared to be torturing a muggle. "'These witches used a lethal curse as an excuse to prove to the wizards, witches, and the Plains that lacked these powers who's really in charge? That alone was the cause of a deadly civil war where the Plains and the rest of the Wizarding World fought off their 'rulers.' A Plain stated that they were fooled by our attacks. If they were fooled, they can be killed.' No…" Derek whispered while feeling his heart pound, his blood racing, and he began to sweat.
'I don't understand! These are all wrong! We would never do this! We swore an oath that we used these magical powers to keep the peace between the two worlds! This must've been done by a rebellious wizard or witch!' Plutonia yelled. After a bit more reading, there was a bit of painful silence. 'I need to look more into this. Mind if I take over for a moment?' She asked him.
This puzzled Derek greatly to the point where he looked at a wall with a confused look.
'You can do that!?' He yelled at her.
'Yeah. I did it once before while you slept-walked when you were eight years old.' She said.
'Uh…okay? What are you looking for yourself?' He asked her again.
'The truth.' She said.
Derek felt himself getting tired and he was put into a slumber. He felt his mind being taken over and was now in his subconscious. Just as his eyes opened, they were now bright as amethyst and a flow of magical aura radiated from his body. Surrounding his body was a spiritual presence without a true form of a tall woman with long flowing hair. She used her magic to scroll more through the pages until she stopped at the end where she found out how it ended.
"No…" Her voice and Derek's voice spoke in unison when she saw the result. 'After more than five years of searching for a lost child that was the last of their kind, the wizards and witches gave up their search to find her and let the wild finish her off. The abominations were now all but extinct and the two worlds can finally live in peace.'
"No!" She yelled slightly before reverting into Derek and he took back over. Both of them were not okay after that. 'Lies! Many of those were lies!' She yelled.
'We've seen enough…this was a bad idea. Now I see why this was restricted.' Derek said before closing the book and going to track down Madam Pince while trying to calm down himself. "Here…thank you." He said while giving her the book.
"I told you it was disturbing. When we learned that you have arrived at this school with that power, Headmaster Dumbledore said that you were unlike them. You've proved it yourself. If we didn't want to risk that, we would've had you go to Durmstrang Institute instead." Pince said to a shaken-up Derek.
"But why did those pages contain lies? We would never start a civil war. No offense in any way towards you or the author, of course." Derek asked while looking back at the book.
"If it's in the book, then that is something you will have to deal with to the author, who isn't even alive. Now run along." Pince said before walking off with the book.
Derek just watched while she walked away with the book. Even though she didn't show it, Derek saw within her aura that she felt sorry and bad for him. He sighed and left the library.
"I don't get it. This isn't right. That has to be false history. Yeah, yeah that must be why it's in the Restricted Section. Because it's all lies!" Derek said angrily to himself.
'Take it from me. I know a lie when I see and hear one. That author must've been from a family that was all against us. It's not worth going after as that will all but confirm their assumptions.' Plutonia said.
"Hmph!" Derek grunted loudly before heading for the grounds to get some fresh air to clear his mind.
When Halloween was a little more than a week away, Derek saw a notice on the Ravenclaw notice board about the delegations from Beauxbaton and Durmstrang will be arriving on the 30th.
"Well, it's about time! I thought they never show up." Terry Boot said while he was looking at it with Derek and Padma Patil.
"I wonder how they will get here." Padma said while thinking.
"We'll find out by Friday." Derek said with a smile.
When Friday finally came around, they dropped off their belongings in the common rooms and they made their way towards the front of the school to meet the representatives of Beauxbaton and Durmstrang. Derek joined up with Cho, Luna, and Terry in the front to wait for their arrival.
"There!" Someone shouted nearby and pointed.
They looked up and saw what appeared to be a dozen large flying horses coming their way. The horses were pulling a massive carriage the size of a house. Several students had to back away as the horses and the carriage came to a bit of a crash landing. The one driving the carriage jumped down and opened up a set of golden steps of the door.
When the door opened, a large woman that was taller than Hagrid emerged from the carriage. Everyone was downright speechless at the very presence of the woman. Dumbledore, who had waited at the entrance, began to clap upon her arrival. This led to the rest doing the same for appreciation.
'That's odd. She appears to be somewhat of a half-giantess. Very unusual.' Plutonia said.
'Let me guess…racial slur.' Derek asked her. Plutonia chuckled at that.
'We've raised you well. Just keep it to yourself.' Plutonia said.
As the woman approached Dumbledore, they greeted each other well.
"Professor Dumbly-dorr, I 'ope I find you well." She said in a rather deep voice.
"Indeed, Madam Maxime. Welcome to Hogwarts." He said happily.
"Pupils!" Maxime called out.
From the carriage, a dozen late teen boys and girls exited from the carriage shivering. They were wearing robes that were made out of fine silk. Some had wrapped scarves and shawls around their heads.
Just then, one of the girls took notice of Derek.
"Is zat Derek Night!?" She yelled while pointing towards him, making them look at him with shock.
"Oh, bloody hell." Derek whispered while many more eyes were on him. "Yikes!" He yelled while lowering and covering his head as the students from Beauxbaton rushed to him to greet him.
This caused several students to laugh at him.
"It is an honour to meet you." One of them said.
"Your cure for ze werewolves curse made my family welcome two members back with 'appiness!" Another yelled.
"C'est assez!" Madam Maxime yelled to her students while pulling them back.
'What did she say?' Derek asked Plutonia.
'It's French for 'that's enough.'' Plutonia answered.
"'As Karkaroff arrived yet?" Maxime asked Dumbledore while maintaining control of her students.
"Not yet, but he should be here any moment now." He answered while gently pulling Derek to the side. "Perhaps you would like to wait inside to get warm?" He asked.
"Yes. But ze 'orses will need tending to." Maxime said.
"Our Care of Magical Creatures professor and Gamekeeper, Hagrid will be more than capable of tending to them." Dumbledore said.
"Will you please inform ziz 'agrid zat ze drink only single-malt whiskey?" She asked him.
"It will be done." He said before they went inside.
"Yeesh! I thought Harry Potter would be getting more fame, attention, and glory than me." Derek said while straightening himself a bit.
"The lake!" Someone yelled nearby while noticing something different about it.
"The giant squid!?" Someone asked.
They saw large bubbles being shot at from the center of the Black Lake. Suddenly, the bubbles created a large whirlpool where a mast began to show itself. A large ship emerged from the lake that was rather skeletal and resembled that of a ghost ship that was dark and had water coming out of the holes on the side.
The ship docked on the side and the students, and their headmaster departed from the ship. The students wore a cape made from matted, woolly fur, fur hats, and blood-red robes. The students, like Beauxbaton, were in their late teens. Their headmaster, on the other hand, had a similar uniform but was white, and he had a long goatee. He held a staff and was escorted by a couple of students.
"Dumbledore! How are you, my dear fellow, how are you!?" Headmaster Igor Karkaroff asked when he went to Dumbledore, and they embraced.
"Blooming, thank you, Professor Karkaroff." He said.
Karkaroff then looked down at Derek, making him look up back at him. Derek used his magic and looked into his aura. He saw him being neutral and a proud man. He did, however, see a bit of darkness within him, especially since he saw dark magic radiating from his wrist.
"So you must be famous Derek Night, the one that has found the cure to Lycanthropy. I say if you continue with these accomplishments, you could surpass my personal pupil, Viktor Krum." Karkaroff said with a small smile, revealing rather rotting teeth.
"Who?" Derek asked him with a raised eyebrow.
"You never heard of him? Where have you been all your life? Under a rock?" Karkaroff asked with a raised eyebrow.
"Let's just say I don't get out much, professor." He said.
"Now, now. Let's give him some space." Dumbledore said while intervening.
"You're right. Let us go. Viktor has a bit of a head cold." Karkaroff said.
"Right inside." Dumbledore said as the representatives of Durmstrang went inside.
Everyone else went inside to the Great Hall. The Beauxbaton students joined the Ravenclaw table while Durmstrang joined the Slytherin table. Most of the Beauxbaton students had glum expressions on their faces, especially since some of them were still holding their scarves. A few sat around Derek while trying to have a good conversation with him.
"So what eez it like to be famous when you found ze cure?" A seventh girl named Fleur Delacour asked while sitting across from him.
"Oh…well…I guess I feel like I have gotten a bit of an inflated head. Don't get me wrong, it is huge, but I don't want to be fully recognized as just that." Derek said.
"You will. We do not forget." Fleur said.
"Hey, there are extra chairs. Are we expecting more guests for the staff or something?" Cho asked while sitting close by Derek.
"I don't know." Derek answered.
"Greetings ladies, gentlemen, ghost, and most particularly...our guests!" Dumbledore announced while going to his pedestal. "I bid you all welcome to Hogwarts, and I hope that you will find your stay here to enjoy. The Triwizard Tournament will begin after our excellent feast. And thus, let the feast…begin." He concluded.
The plates in front of everyone spawned many different foods, drinks, desserts, and even some from outside their country for those from Beauxbaton and Durmstrang. While everyone was getting into their meals, Derek took noticed that Karkaroff and Maxime were sitting by both sides of Dumbledore engaging in different conversations.
Derek then looked back at Karkaroff while recalling about the dark magic that was on his wrist when he first met him. He used his magic in his eyes once again to look into it, and the dark magic was still there.
'You're concerned about it too, aren't you?' Plutonia asked him.
'Yeah. Something about that doesn't seem right. What do you think?' He thought.
'He might've been one of Voldemort's followers?' She asked.
'Maybe…' He thought.
"Derek…? Derek!" Fleur called out to him, making him snap out of his train of thought, and his eyes dimmed. "What eez it?" She asked.
"Nothing…just noticing something about Karkaroff. Nothing to be of concern." He answered before getting into some pudding.
"What did you see? I know it's something to at least be concerned about." Luna asked him.
"I sense…dark magic radiating from him. But it doesn't seem to be too much of a problem. If it was, we'd do something about it by now." He said.
Just then, Derek saw a few more people enter from the side of the staff table. Hagrid had just arrived to join them. The others were elderly people that sat by some of the other staff.
Just then, the feast has been wiped clean. Dumbledore then stood up and the Great Hall looked towards the headmaster.
"The time has come. The Triwizard Tournament is about to begin. Before that, I have a few words. I'd like to invite you all to join me and welcoming a couple of representatives from the Ministry of Magic that will be joining us for the tournament. First off, let me introduce Mr. Bartemius Crouch, Head of the Department of Magical Cooperation." Dumbledore said to the hall as Barty Crouch Sr. stood up.
Several people applauded him before he sat back down.
"He seems important." Derek said to himself.
"Next up is Ludo Bagman, Head of the Department of Magical Games and Sports." Dumbledore announced as another man stood up.
There was louder applause when Ludo stood up. Derek was definitely one of the several that cheered for him before he sat back down.
"Mr. Crouch and Mr. Bagman have worked tirelessly to plan out the events leading to the Triwizard Tournament. The three dangerous tasks were all discussed and confirmed by them themselves. Next up, we have one of the heads of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement with us this evening. He, as well as his squads, will be patrolling the grounds to make sure that none will deal with any form of foul play. May I present to all…" Dumbledore announced just before the doors opened.
Everyone looked at who entered. Derek's eyes widen when he saw the last person, he thought would be taking part of this.
"Mr. Juan Shafiq, and his handpicked Aurors as security." Dumbledore finished when they entered the hall.
'No way! He's here!?' Derek thought happily when he saw Juan going to the staff table and the other Aurors were going along the walls to keep watch.
Juan then looked down the Ravenclaw table until he saw Derek. He smiled before looking back at Dumbledore and greeted him.
"Mr. Filch, please bring in the casket." Dumbledore called out to the Caretaker.
Filch left for a moment until he helped bring in said casket to the front of the hall in front of the staff table. He then took out his wand and tabbed on it a few times, making the casket open. Dumbledore then pulled out a wooden cup that was filled with blue and white flames dancing out of it.
"Whoa…" Cho whispered.
"Beautiful." Fleur said.
"The Goblet of Fire. Anyone that wishes to take part in the official drawling for the tournament must write their name and represented school on a piece of parchment. They will then throw it into the flames to be submitted. To make this fair for the submission, an age line will be created around it so no one under the age of seventeen can take part in the drawling. An extreme word of caution: if chosen, you cannot change your mind, or beg to be let out. You must be wholeheartedly sure that you are willing to take part in the three extremely dangerous tasks. A binding, magical contract will be made to ensure the three champions will see through the tournament until the end. You will have twenty-four hours to submit your name at the entrance where the Goblet of Fire will be at. As of right now, the Triwizard Tournament has begun. But for now, it is now time for bed. Off you go." Dumbledore concluded the evening.
"It was an honour to meet you, Derek." Fleur said before she and everyone was leaving.
"Same to you Fleur." Derek said while he watched her leave with the rest of her fellow students.
"You really know how to attract others to you, don't you?" Cho asked him with a teasing look.
"Attract? I'm really no one special…I think. Am I?" He asked while they began to leave after the Beauxbaton students.
"You're famous, and you are a really cool person to be with. I'm sure that anyone will be honored to be in your circle of friendship." She said.
"I just wish that they aren't a part of it because of my discovery…I don't want to be used." He said while looking away a bit.
Just then, he then felt Luna taking his hand. He then looked at her with confusion.
"You won't be, not on our watch. Besides, we've been your friend before that discovery." She said with a calming smile.
Derek smiled back at her before tightening her grip on her hand.
They soon returned to the Ravenclaw common room before going their separate ways. Derek got into his sleepwear before heading off towards the library close by. He just calmly read a book while also thinking about what will happen the very next evening when the champions were selected. One thing was certain; it was going to be one wacky birthday for him when he turns thirteen years old.
The next morning, Derek woke up in a very good mood. He was now thirteen years old, and since it was a Saturday, he had no classes to deal with. His homework was completed, and he was about to make his way to take part in breakfast.
However, before he could leave the common room, he was greeted by Juan and to Derek's surprise, Winston.
"Happy birthday!" Juan said when Derek went to them.
"Juan! Winston!" Derek yelled before going to them and embracing them.
"Master Derek is in a very good mood today. Winston hasn't seen Derek this happy at all." Winston said.
"And for good reasons! So when were you gonna tell me that you were gonna be here for security, Juan?" Derek asked his stepfather.
"I wanted it to be a surprise. I'm sure that you will have a wonderful birthday. I think for a gift, we could try to make arrangements for you to meet the visiting staff from the Ministry of Magic if you wish." Juan offered.
"Would you!? Sure! Wouldn't mind meeting more members of the ministry." Derek said.
"It might, unfortunately, be after the champion selection though. Hopefully, you'll be patient until then." He said to him.
"Not to worry. I'm sure that I'll manage. So Winston, what have you been up to?" Derek asked.
"Winston was able to get a second job, Master Derek. Winston is working down in the kitchens with other house-elves. They are some of the happiest Winston has ever seen. Although…Winston heard of some crackpot enforcement called Spew." Winston said.
"Spew?" He asked.
"More like S.P.E.W. The Society for the Promotion of Elfish Welfare." Winston explained.
"Oh yes, yes. I've heard of that. I heard it has been started by a Hermione Granger if I recall. If the house-elves are happy in the kitchens, then why would they need it?" Juan asked.
"I know her…but why would she want that?" Derek asked.
"To try to free the house-elves. A free elf named Dobby warned Winston about that." Winston said.
"The Malfoy's elf?" Juan asked.
"Yes sir. Dobby was freed a couple of years back." He said.
"Right. Anyway, I'll check up with you lot later." Derek said.
"Of course. Happy birthday again." Juan said before sharing a hug with him again.
When the time was growing all the nearer, everyone enjoyed yet another delicious feast. Derek sat by with his fellow students in the Great Hall, but this time, the tables were more arranged so the Goblet of Fire was in the very center of the room. The students from the representing schools were on separate sides.
When the plates were wiped clean again, Dumbledore, Karkaroff, Maxime, Ludo, and Barty joined each other in the center of the room by the Goblet of Fire.
"And thus the time has come. The estimated time is one minute until the champion selection is made. When the champions are announced, they will be asked to head straight for the Trophy Room behind the staff table to the left where their final assignments will be given." Dumbledore called out.
Dumbledore then drew his wand out and waved it around the room. All the lights dimmed so the only true source of light was the blue and white flames. The flame began to grow brighter until the blue went to red. Many students were getting anxious to see who the champions were.
Suddenly, the flame shot out the first piece of parchment. Dumbledore caught it and looked at the name and the school. The red flame went back to being blue and white.
"The Durmstrang champion will be Viktor Krum!" Dumbledore announced.
A large number of students from Slytherin, as well as a short group of other Hogwarts students, cheered loudly for Krum, who began to make his way towards the doorway behind the staff table.
The Goblet of Fire's flames turned red again, and another parchment shot out of it. Dumbledore caught it once again.
"The champion for Beauxbatons is Fleur Delacour." Dumbledore announced while reading the parchment.
The girl that Derek met yesterday got up from her group of disappointed friends as she went across the Great Hall over the cheers of the others around her.
"Go get 'em, Fleur." Derek whispered while clapping.
The third parchment shot out, and every single student from Hogwarts was getting more anxious as their champion was next.
"The Hogwarts champion is Cedric Diggory." Dumbledore announced again.
Every single Hufflepuff gave the loudest cheers and stomping as their fellow sixth year went to go join his fellow champions behind the doorway. Derek took noticed that Ron nearby was so upset that Cedric was announced.
"Now that we have our champions, I hope that we will cheer them on with kindness, muster, and equally. By cheering on your champion, we will have a–" But Dumbledore was interrupted by a sound behind him.
The Goblet of Fire began to glow red once again, surprising everyone in the room. A fourth parchment shot out of the flames. Dumbledore caught it like he was supposed to and saw what was on it.
"Harry Potter…" He read softly, but not loud enough for anyone to hear him. "Harry Potter!" Dumbledore called out.
This left everyone looking at Harry with shock beyond belief. They watched as Hermione gave him a push as he went to Dumbledore. Harry then went straight for the doorway.
Derek then looked back at the Goblet of Fire with disbelief. Suddenly, his eyes glowed, making him grunt in pain. He shut his eyes while covering his face in the process.
"Derek!?" Juan yelled when he was the first to notice what was happening. Dumbledore and a few other students went to him. "Are you okay? What happened?" He asked.
"A new magical technique is happening." He grunted while the burning feeling was beginning to fade. He slowly opened his eyes and looked back at the Goblet of Fire.
Suddenly, his eyes glowed again. This time, the flames turned amethyst, matching his eye color. It wasn't as bright as before, but this caught the attention of everyone. The flames shot right at Derek's eyes.
"AAHHH!" He shouted when the flames impacted his eyes.
"DEREK!" Dumbledore screamed, only to feel the flames forcing him and the others away from him.
'Greetings, bearer of the Amethyst eyes. The fourth champion was selected due to a fourth school being submitted by an official member of the Ministry of Magic. It was done through an act of a new rule being added.'A voice spoke to him and Plutonia within his head, neither male nor female, but something from beyond their true knowledge.
'What do you mean? A new rule? Harry could be walking to his death! He's underage!' Plutonia spoke to it.
'He was the only one that was submitted. Thus earning him the fourth champion.' It answered.
The flames released him, and Derek fell backwards hyperventilating. Juan and Cho sat him up slowly as he was a bit dizzy.
"What happened!?" Dumbledore asked.
"I…I have no idea where the Goblet of Fire learned to communicate, but apparently, a fourth school was submitted, hence Harry being chosen." Derek said while rubbing his eyes and slightly shaking his head.
"That cannot be. There are supposed to be three, not four. Hence the name." Dumbledore said.
"I'm just passing on to what it said. Now if you'll excuse me…I think I need to get some help cause I think I'm gonna be sick." He said before feeling a bit weird in the head.
"Get him out of here." Dumbledore ordered Juan.
"Yes sir. I'll look after him." He said before quickly escorting him out.
Derek felt a lot of eyes on him as he was leaving. This was something that he wasn't expecting at all on his first day as a teen. When he made it to the hospital wing, Derek was given some immediate treatment by Madam Pomfrey. He laid there on the bed while he was slowly recovering from the trauma that he had.
"I'm gonna go check up on things back with the other champions and fill them in if they haven't. I'll be back in a little bit." Juan said.
"Don't rush. I think I'll be okay." Derek said rather tiredly.
"Take it easy." Juan said before leaving.
Derek rested there for a good hour until he slowly but surely recovered. Madam Pomfrey checked on him one last time to make sure he was in top condition.
"Well, Mr. Night, whatever happened to you from what I was told seemed to be over. You can go." She said.
"Thanks a bunch." He said before getting up and beginning to leave.
"Ah, there you are, Mr. Night! We were just about to check up on you." It was Professor Flitwick, along with Barty Crouch and Juan.
"I'm good. Whatever that was, I hope it doesn't happen again." Derek said.
"Derek Night." Barty said while approaching him. "Your reputation precedes you. I knew your parents rather well due to how close they were to Juan. But still, life goes on, and here we stand." He said while they were leaving.
"How do you know them?" Derek asked.
"I didn't know them personally, but from what I learned is that they were trying to stay neutral in the First Wizarding War years ago. No one will tell me why, but I'm sure they had their reasons. Nevertheless, I was quite honored to see that magic of yours first hand." Barty said.
"Actually, we were maybe wondering if you could lend us your magic to help keep a sharper eye on things during the tasks. I will say these: one of the tasks involves the Black Lake, and the other in a gigantic maze. Your way of tracking their aura, and that powerful attack you can muster might come in handy." Juan offered to him.
Derek froze for a moment when he said that. It was true that he wanted to see how things will play out in the tournament, but on the other hand, acting as an emergency agent was something he didn't expect.
"I guess I could help in some way. Just as long as we kinda keep this to ourselves for now. I don't want any more ego inflation for the time being." Derek said.
"Of course. Anyway, it was an honor to finally meet you. I best get things further prepared for the first task. Until then, good luck, Mr. Night." Barty said before going elsewhere.
"Well…I say this was an event and a half. You sure there isn't anything Harry can do to get out of this?" Derek asked Juan.
"No. The rules are absolute. The Goblet of Fire's magical contract must be fulfilled. First the Quidditch World Cup, now this? What's next?" Juan wondered.
"This can't be a coincidence. Why would someone from the ministry put Harry into the tournament? It makes no sense…unless someone wants to get rid of him." He said while thinking about it more.
"We will let Minister Fudge on the matter. For now, just focus on your schoolwork and studies. We will deal with this matter." Juan said.
"Okay. Good night." Derek said before they embraced for a moment before Derek went off to the common room.
With the bug that happened with the champion selection, Derek knew that this tournament was gonna be something, unlike anything he had ever known. How will things play out? What more peril will Derek be getting into? Find out more next time as the story continues.
