Chapter 14: The High Kings Unleased
"Let's duel!" both Ren and Declan declared, starting an Action Duel that might decide their fates.
Ren: 4000 LP
Declan: 4000 LP
"Before you start, I will be activating a special rule! Extra Monsters!" Ren declared, two zones appearing above the middle left and middle right monster zones, "With this, Pendulum has been effectively destroyed! You can no longer summon Pendulum monsters from your extra deck, except to your Extra Monster Zone, or to a zone that a link monster points to!"
"What's a link monster?" A bystander asked,
"Not sure." Their companion responded.
"So you have one too?" Declan asked, a look of surprise on Ren's face,
"What do you mean?"
"Just wait and see!"
Turn 1: Declan
"I start by activating my Dark Contract with the Gate. At the cost of 1000 life points every turn, I can search for any D/D monster in my deck. I search out my D/D Swirl Slime, of which I then activate the effect of, fusing it with my Doom King Armageddon! Conquering flame king, sit on the throne of absolute power, to obtain your new promotion! I Fusion Summon, D/D/D Flame High King Genghis!" An evolved form of one of Declan's most iconic monsters appeared, spreading its sword and shield.
D/D/D Flame High King Genghis: Level 8, 2800 ATK
"Then by normal summoning my D/D Ghost, High King Genghis allows me to revive the Doom King Armageddon in my graveyard! I then tune my Ghost and Armageddon! Gust king who rules over them all, your time for ascension has arrived! I promote you! Synchro Summon! D/D/D Gust High King Alexander arise!" Now an upgraded form of his Synchro ace appeared.
D/D/D Gust High King Alexander: Level 10, 3000 ATK
"Now I activate Forbidden Dark Contract with the Underworld! By banishing a D/D or D/D/D monster from my deck, I can revive two D/D monsters, with their levels increased by the sent monster's! Of course, any good contract has payment, by way of 2000 life points every turn. I banish D/D Berfomet to revive my Ghost and Swirl Slime as level 6 monster! I then build the overlay network using them! When the waves of despair come crashing down, look in fear as this new executive arrives! I Xyz Summon, rank 6, D/D/D Wave High King Caesar!" Now it was Declan's Xyz ace's turn, reading an even more impressive bludgeon. "High King Alexander gains 3000 Attack points if at least three D/D/D monsters are on the field!"
D/D/D Wave High King Caesar: Rank 6, 2800 ATK, 2 ORU
D/D/D Gust High King Alexander: 3000 ATK - 6000 ATK
"Now I activate Forbidden Dark Contract with the Gate. By paying one thousand life points for every 'Dark Contract' I control, including itself, I can destroy those cards, then add a D/D or 'Dark Contract' card for each! I add my Dark Contract with Patent License, my D/D Savant Marie and my D/D Lamia. This does cost me 3000 life points however, and I will be halving my life points during your standby phase."
Declan: 4000 LP - 1000 LP
"Now it is time for my research to bear fruit! I summon D/D Savant Marie, who's effect allows me to special summon my D/D Lamia in defence mode! Then I activate Dark Contract with Patent License. Now, I open a circuit. If I have done this correctly, by sacrificing Savant Marie and Lamia, I can summon a whole new monster! The king who rules over the depths of the abyss is truly the one that you want to please. Standby to plead your case! I LINK SUMMON! D/D/D Abyss King Gilgamesh, rise to take your throne!" A strange new portal appeared, a yellow-ish blue with 8 arrows flanking it. Savant Marie and Lamia proceeded to turn into tornadoes of energy, entering the bottom left and bottom right arrows, relative to Declan. From the portal came a new King, weaker than the rest, but still imposing.
D/D/D Abyss King Gilgamesh: LINK-2, 1800 ATK, Bottom Left and Bottom Right Arrows
"H-How do you have that?" Ren called, stuttering a little at seeing Declan's new King,
"Simple. My father left some research behind one day, noting how he hadn't seen any summons of Fusion, Synchro, Xyz or Link monsters for quite the while. I knew about the first three, so I decided to do some research of my own. Very long story short, this is what led me to make my Gilgamesh," Declan replied, "Now I activate Gilgamesh's ability! By paying 1000 life points, I can set any D/D pendulum monsters into my pendulum zones!"
"But you don't have the life points!"
"I do. Due to Savant Marie's ability, a D/D or D/D/D monster summoned using it has all costs halved until the end of the turn. Also, you are unable to attack this monster as long as I control a stronger one."
Declan: 1000 LP - 500 LP
"Using this ability, I set scale 1 Savant Copernicus and scale 10 Savant Newton to my pendulum scale. This will allow me to summon monsters from my hand or extra deck, as long as their levels are between 2 and 9! With this, I pendulum summon my Doom King Armageddon back, then end my turn."
D/D/D Doom King Armageddon: Level 8, 3000 ATK
Declan: 500 LP - 250 LP
Turn 2: Ren
"Rrr, I draw! I now summon a Dark Soldier from my hand. This allows me to summon yet another from my deck!" Ren's two soldiers appeared, but they quickly entered the overlay network, "Cloaked in shadows and relentless in its objective, the most dangerous of all dragons is called forth! Dark Rebellion Xyz Dragon!"
"Due to your summoning of an Xyz monster, I'm afraid you have made an unlicenced dragon in violation with my Dark Contract with Patent Licence. This will inflict a thousand points of damage to you, and you are unable to summon Xyz monsters for the rest of the turn." Declan smirked,
"WHAT?!" Ren shouted as dark lightning shot over him.
Dark Rebellion Xyz Dragon: Rank 4, 2500 ATK, 2 ORU
Ren: 4000 LP - 3000 LP
"In that case, I activate Extra Calling! This allows me to banish monsters from my deck to summon from the extra deck this turn! I now banish 2 Armageddon Knights to summon Starving Venom Fusion Dragon, one Plaguespredder Zombie and one Ally of Justice Catastor to summon Clear Wing Synchro Dragon and I banish 3 copies of Dark Greifer along with another Armageddon Knightto summon my Link-4 Corrupting Tail Link Dragon!" A whole bunch of monsters jumped from Ren's deck, allowing him to summon 3 more dragons.
Starving Venom Fusion Dragon: Level 8, 2800 ATK
Clear Wing Synchro Dragon: Level 7, 2500 ATK
Corrupting Tail Link Dragon: LINK-4, 2500 ATK, Up, Down, Left and Right Arrows
"You've just sealed the duel. Due to my Patent Licence, you are going to be taking 3000 points of damage." Declan said, slightly confused at his opponent's actions,
"Actually, I take halved effect damage this turn, due to Extra Calling's effect." Ren informed Declan as damage washed over him.
Ren: 3000 LP - 1500 LP
"Now due to the effect of Draconic Call in my hand, I can summon my Odd-Eyes Dragon from my deck! Also, until the end of my turn, I cannot be prevented from summoning monsters by cards on the field, so your Patent Licence won't be restricting me anymore!" The original form of Yuya's Odd-Eyes appeared, joining its brethren.
Odd-Eyes Dragon: Level 7, 2500 ATK
"Then I activate Draconic Evolution! By tributing a 'Fusion Dragon', 'Synchro Dragon', 'Xyz Dragon', 'Dragon' that originated in the main deck and a 'Link Dragon' monster, I can summon another with different names. All treated as if summoned properly."
"By detaching one material from Wave High King Caesar, I can negate the activation of your spell. And since those tributes are treated as cost, you just wiped your field out," Declan said calmly, a material being absorbed into his Xyz monster, "Then Gilgamesh gains a permanent boost equal to the attack points of the monsters I prevented you from summoning!" Gilgamesh suddenly grew massively in strength, gaining the strength of the monsters being summoned.
D/D/D Wave High King Caesar: 2 ORU - 1 ORU
(1800 + (3000*4) + 3300) = 17,100
D/D/D Abyss King Gilgamesh: 1800 ATK - 17,100 ATK
Ren was in extreme anger. Not only had he been prevented from summoning the evolved dragons, but he had also lost the originals! He threw the last 2 cards in his hand face down, ending his turn.
Turn 3: Declan
"I tire of this," the young CEO sighed, "Gilgamesh, attack directly and end this duel! Abyss King's Demise!" Gilgamesh charged at Ren, who activated a trap card,
"I activate Supreme King's Counter! This trap will negate the battle damage, then deal the same to you!"
"Savant Newton negates that with its pendulum ability!"
"Then I activate Supreme King Evolution! By banishing my dragons, I can summon their Supreme King counterparts!"
"Are you forgetting about Caesar's effect?" Declan chided, "By detaching his last material, that trap is negated, then I give Gilgamesh the attack points of the monsters you would have summoned!"
"No! I activate Draconic Evolution from the graveyard! If the summon of a dragon-type monster would be negated while this card is in the graveyard, I can negate that effect and destroy that card! So goodbye Caesar!"
"I play Savant Marie's last ability," Declan calmly said, "By banishing it from my extra deck, one D/D/D monster I control is unable to be affected by other effects! I choose Caesar." A light aura was added to Caesar's blue one, protecting the King from destruction, and its effect went through, negating the summons.
D/D/D Wave High King Caesar: 1 ORU - 0 ORU
(17,100 + (2500*4) + 2800 = 29,900
D/D/D Abyss King Gilgamesh: 17,100 ATK - 29,900 ATK
"Then I activate the Action Card Rounding, allowing me to round Gilgamesh's attack points to thirty thousand!" Declan declared, activating the action card he had found.
D/D/D Abyss King Gilgamesh: 29,900 ATK - 30,000 ATK
"Abyss King's Ultimate Demise!" Declan called, Gilgamesh going in for the final strike,
"Evasion! This negates your attack!" Ren responded, playing his first Action Card, "I despise these cards, but they sure are handy."
"You are forgetting that I don't need Gilgamesh to finish you. I was just being flashy," Declan smirked, "But who said I was done being flashy? I activate the quick-play spell D/D/D Emergency Meeting which allows me to use Gilgamesh and my Doom King Armageddon to Link Summon treating Gilgamesh as two materials! When the king of the depths goes deeper than his realm's bounds, he discovered the true art of business! Close the deal! I Link summon, LINK-3, D/D/D Abyss High King Gilgamesh who then gains twice the attack points of his predecessor!" Similar to its Fusion, Synchro and Xyz counterparts, Gilgamesh exited the portal with a much bigger weapon and armour that could likely withstand all but the strongest of blows, absorbing the strength of the previous Abyss King, then doubling it.
D/D/D Abyss High King Gilgamesh: LINK-3, 0 ATK - 60,000 ATK, Bottom Left, Right, and Middle Arrows
"High King Gilgamesh then attacks you directly! Abyssal Destruction!" The sword that Gilgamesh now wielded flew out, swiftly hitting Ren in the stomach, knocking him out, winning Declan the duel.
Ren: 1500 LP - 0 LP
Declan Wins!
As the duel field disappeared, the Yu-boys came to, confused as to why Declan was standing over a guy who looked familiar, a strange blue card on the ground.
"Wh-What happened?" Yuya asked, shaking his head one last time, free of whatever had been controlling the boys.
"I'm not sure. You went rather brutal on those Fusion girls," Declan informed him, "You used a dragon of immense size, that dealt almost 9000 damage in one attack. Do you mind checking your extra deck for me?"
"Sure," Yuya agreed, however, he didn't find anything unusual, "Nothing's any different from the last time I checked." Yuya slightly cringed at the sight of the Chaos Number sitting in it,
"Interesting. You are probably also wondering about this man. He is that Ren fellow you duelled a while back."
"And that cool blue card?" Asked Yugo,
"A Link monster. I'll explain back in the resistance hideout."
"Is Zuzu ok?" Yuya had to ask, having semi-entrusted the task of retrieving her to the rest of the Lancers when Yuma had taken him and Yugo away,
"We have recovered her. She is currently recovering in the Synchro Dimension while we figure out our next moves."
"Speaking of; who won the Friendship Cup?" Yugo interjected again,
Declan sighed, "The tournament was cancelled. During the semi-finals, the director of Sector Security, a Fusion spy, decided to enact martial law. This was after the duellist named Sergey was eliminated."
"Martial law?" Yuto questioned, still getting used to having his own body again, "And you left the Lancers there without their leader?"
"We dealt with it, don't worry. All the citizens of the Synchro Dimension are safe now. We also managed to recruit the Blackwing duellist Crow Hogan, and the duellist with Stardust Dragon, Yusei Fudo, to the Lancers. We have also established an alliance with Synchro, Jack Atlas, the new leader following the resignation of the High Council, offering all the support they can give."
"That's so cooool I wonder how it will go when I beat him!" Yugo fanboyed,
"I do find it funny that a spy from Fusion wasn't you, Yugo. After all, your name is dangerously close to a word FOR fusion." Yuri taunted,
"What was that?" Yugo growled,
"Relax Yugo, he was just making an observation," Yuto calmed the Synchro Duellist, "Right?" he questioned Yuri,
"Sure, sure, it was fully in jest." Yuri said, hiding the sarcasm as best as he could,
"Well, lets head back." Yuya said, checking over his duel disk, which Declan had unfortunately made unusable for the time being. As they walked back, they questioned Declan a lot, but the leader of the Lancers answered few, if any questions. Upon arriving back, Declan set up on a table, preparing to explain Link Summoning and Link Monsters to the 4 boys. He had set a field up where he had his three Doom King Armageddons on the field, and an applicable pendulum scale.
"Now, you 4 wanted to know about Link Summoning, correct?" He asked, all the boys nodding in confirmation, "Well, they are a fourth type of extra deck summoning that has seemingly been lost to history. As I've already said, I found some research from my father on the topic, so I investigated further, but due to a lack of records, I had to improvise a few things. I will explain the basics now.
"Like Xyz and Synchro monsters, you don't need to activate a spell or trap to summon Link monsters, but unlike those monsters, there are no requirements, like tuners or being the same level, that you have to account for. Of course, there are exceptions. In order to Link Summon, you need to send the monsters on your field who meet the conditions listed on the card to the graveyard, or the extra deck if they are pendulum monsters, then summon a monster whose LINK Rating is equal to the number of monsters tributed for this. Link monsters can only be summoned to a special monster zone, but that is still being refined. They also cannot exist in defence mode, as that would change the orientation of the arrows on the card, which are rather important.
"Link monsters, like Xyz monsters, have no levels, and are thus unaffected by cards that refer to level or rank. The arrows around the card art allow you to summon a Link monster to the zone it points to. That is the basics, so I will now perform an example. My D/D/D Abyss King Gilgamesh is a LINK-2 monster who has the summoning condition of '2 D/D monsters'. Of course, as is the case with all of my cards, a 'D/D/D' monster can be used in place of a 'D/D' as they have that as part of the name. So by sending 2 of my Armageddons to the Extra Deck, I can summon my Gilgamesh to an Extra Monster Zone.
"I have another Link Monster in my Extra Deck, being my Abyss High King, who has a few more specific rules around it. It has the summoning conditions of at least 2 'D/D' monsters including Abyss King Gilgamesh. It is a LINK-3 monster, meaning that I can use 2 monsters, as long as the total LINK Ratings equal 3. This means I can use my Abyss King, or another LINK-2 monster, as 2 materials for the summon. Any questions?" Declan had lost Yugo a little while ago, Yuto having perfectly understood, Yuri had already laughed off the simplicity, while Yuya was more pondering the implications of an 'Extra Monster Zone' and if that would affect his pendulum summoning.
"Mr. Akaba?" A resistance member asked, entering the room, "The prisoner you brought is stirring."
"Thank you for letting me know," Declan calmly said before turning to the boys, "You four should come with me." And then he got up, putting his cards away, the boys following him at a bit of a distance, slightly worried as to why Declan wanted them to come with.
Upon entering the room where Ren was being held, Yuya and Yuto had to withhold a gasp, recognising the tied-up man,
"So, you two have managed to split? Impressive." Ren growled, directing his words at Yuya and Yuto.
"What? How did you know we were one before?" Yuya asked, startled,
"Your duelling style. Also, the duel against Jack Atlas. I have been watching you all for quite some time, so I noticed that after a certain event, your style changed from Entertainment Duelling, or to call it what you do, Dueltaining, to a beatdown style more fitting for an Xyz Duellist." Ren laughed, causing Yuya to think, upon which he did realise that he had, in fact, been moving away from the style of duelling that he had been taught, causing both his and Yuto's heads to drop slightly,
"Sorry, Yuya. I guess my awakening caused some unrealised changes." Yuto dejectedly said, sad that through his presence, Yuya was unable to fulfill the promise that they'd made, quite literally right before Yuto was absorbed.
"It's OK, Yuto," The Pendulum duellist replied, his voice regaining the step that he had lost earlier, "I guess seeing an opposing Dark Rebellion stirred you up, and our anger, I guess, caused me to change my style."
"How touching," Ren sarcastically stated, "I know you aren't here to mock me, so go ahead and ask me what you wish."
"Very well then," Declan commented, "I wish to know how you came into possession of both a Link Monster, and copies of each of these boy's signature dragons."
"Oh, you wish to know that," Ren said, seemingly getting slightly excited at this, "In order to do that, I need to tell you a story of the world a mere 16 years ago.
"This will be very hard for you all to believe, but 16 years ago, the 4 dimensions you know today were one!" Ren started, "We were a world of technology, a world of promise. We were the ones who pioneered Solid Vision with Mass, or Real Solid Vision, if you prefer, and the ones to discover the potential of our new system in regards to interacting with our cards. We had a massive tournament every single year.
"The last champion was a man by the name of Zarc," Upon saying this, Ren noticed a hint of surprise through Declan and Yuya's faces, "He was probably the strongest duellist ever, completely unstoppable with his deck of dragons. He had four particular dragons, the strongest of their summoning methods, but he wasn't satisfied. There was one more that Zarc wanted. He owned a dragon for Synchro, Xyz, Fusion and Tribute summoning, but the one he didn't own was that of Link summoning. Conveniently, the tournament allowed the defending champion to add a single rule that would only apply to that tournament. For Zarc it was always that you had to wager your rarest card.
"The last tournament that was run ended in a fierce confrontation between Zarc and the boy who possessed the Link Dragon. Zarc won, of course, but after he won and took the card, he declared that he would ascend past humanity. He used a single card to merge with the four dragons he originally owned, becoming the Supreme King Z-ARC." Declan's face, usually stoic, even in the harshest of circumstances, showed shock, which didn't surprise Ren. After all, the four boys had summoned this Dragon in their duel against the now critical Tyler Sisters. A small smile formed on Ren's face, "Eventually, Z-ARC had ravaged the city killing millions, but a single girl decided to challenge him. Z-ARC got cocky and underestimated this girl. She just so happened to be the daughter of the most renown scientist in the world. Her father had developed four special cards, one for each method that Z-ARC had integrated, which she used to defeat him instantly. Unfortunately, for both Z-ARC and the girl, the overflowing energy of the cards reacted, causing them both, and the world, to be split into four, one for each card type, except Link. Those new worlds are the dimensions that you know today."
"I'll stop you now," Declan interrupted, "How do you know this? Also, how does this relate to you obtaining those dragons?"
"I was getting to that," Ren stated, a low growl in his throat, "I was a citizen of this first world, and somehow, I survived the dimensional split with all my memories intact. I found myself near a duel field, where I saw children duelling using the old duel disks of my world. Strangely, I saw that scientist also examining the duels that were taking place. I made sure to keep out of sight, he would obviously recognise me, even in the youthful form that had been assumed by my body. I soon found my deck case on my belt, and in it, I found Corrupting Tail Link Dragon, along with four blank cards, 1 Fusion, 1 Synchro, 1 Xyz and 1 Effect Monster card. Realising what these represented, I decided to go try to find the duellists that the dragons chose. I would gain their power, and reunite the world so that I could live happily once again.
"Now, I had spent years searching for even one dragon, so imagine my surprise, 10-ish years later, when I saw one of the legendary dragons, the Odd-Eyes Dragon, being used in a duel by a boy of about 10 years, startlingly with a similar appearance to my own! Noticing that the Effect Monster blank card was glowing, I edged closer, hiding myself in the nearby bushes. As I got closer, I noticed that the blank card was starting to gain details. First the effect, then the attack and defence points, then the level, the art, and finally, the name. It was around this time that I discovered that the different dimensions truly existed, and broke into LEO Corporation to use the dimensional transporter the then CEO had constructed. I had heard a few rumours and decided to check them out.
"I used the transporter to go from dimension to dimension, repeating the process as necessary. Thankfully, I found that the process was instant if I duelled the holder in Xyz, so I went further undercover in Synchro, duelling him in an underground arena." He said, pointing at Yugo, "I had finally retrieved the 4 dragons, or fragments of them, to be frank, and then I realised that I was missing one component of the summoning…" He was cut off by Yuya, who said the name of the card:
"Astrograph Sorcerer," With this, Yuya took a card from the deck that was in his hand, holding out for everyone to see, "This card appeared in my deck during the duel Yugo and I were supposed to have in the Friendship Cup. Zarc used this card, well, a version of it, to merge with his dragons."
"You have the card. Of course you do." Ren mused,
"Yuya, you also summoned the dragon that Ren here has referred to, Supreme King Z-ARC. Do you mind checking your extra deck for me? I know I asked you before, but could you check again?" Declan asked, "Also, just in case, can the other three also check their extra decks?"
"Certainly." The four boys said, riffling through their cards, searching for the requested one. Surprisingly, they all came up empty, Declan even demanding to see Ren's extra deck, but finding nothing but the 4 extra deck dragons, and the upgraded Xyz Dragons.
"Strange," He mused, "Yuya summoned the dragon, but it is nowhere to be seen."
"It would seem that the dragon only appeared when the connection between the boys was strongest." Ren said, being surprisingly helpful,
"Now onto a slight issue that I have," Declan said, moving on, "This girl and scientist seem rather important, yet you don't refer to them as anything but. I would like to know their names."
"Are you sure, Declan Akaba? The answer may shock you." Ren said, a small smile appearing,
"I've discovered that there are dimensions beyond my home, and also that there was a summoning method that was created by what can only be described as magic. I'm very hard to shock at this point."
"Very well. The scientist is a man named Leo Akaba, I'd think you'd know him, and the girl was his daughter, a girl named Ray Akaba." Ren now laughed, Declan, true to his word, was seemingly unsurprised, but inside, his head was filled with thoughts about how his father fit into this.
"Wait," Yuya said, "If this Ray and Zarc got split into four, and Odd-Eyes Dragon, the old form of my Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon, was one of Zarc's dragons, who did they split into?" Yuya, as well as the other boys, had started to get a slight suspicion, but the grin on Ren's face, along with his next words, confirmed it,
"Why you four, dear children! You four are the different reincarnations of Zarc, the Supreme King! I'm sure you know the fragments of that meddlesome girl, Ray, after all, she did reincarnate suspiciously close to all of you."
Looks of horror on the boy's faces rendered them all unable to speak, thankfully Declan had noticed something else he wanted to bring up, having gathered his thoughts, "You often refer to Ray in ways that imply that you hate her. Why?"
"Because she prevented me from achieving my dream. My utopia was taken away from me, and I hate her for that!"
"Your dream? Wouldn't that make you…" Declan started, being cut off by manic laughter from Ren,
"Why yes, I am Z-ARC! Or at the very least the largest portion of his soul. I would have reunited with the other fragments of my soul if you hadn't had interfered, and thus you, Declan Akaba, have the honour of being the third, wait, no, sixth person I kill when I return, behind only your father and your sister's reincarnations!"
"We won't let you!" Yugo shouted, "No one touches RinRin again!"
"Likewise with Lulu. Once I get her back from Duel Academy, you'll have to go through me to get to her!" Yuto growled, his anger at the man's words the most intense,
"Like hell you are getting to those girls!" they now yelled at the same time, startling the nearby resistance members.
"There would be nothing you lot could do! Did you not listen to the whole 'when I return' part? I need the portions of my power hidden inside you!"
"Prove to me that you are a part of us, that we are parts of Zarc." Yuya said, his voice low, but Yuto could hear a familiar note of rage that had occurred when the Knights of the Duel got carded by Obelisk Force back in the Standard Dimension,
"Have you never wondered how you happen to have the one monster that you need appear in your extra deck, or even in your deck, just as you need it? Your Fusion and Xyz dragons are prime examples!" Ren laughed, taking delight in the Dueltainer's anger, "Also, you know those Pendulum monsters you pride yourself on?"
"The ones that Yuya manifested in his duel against the Sledgehammer? When he created the mechanic?" Declan asked, Yuya's breathing getting heavier and heavier,
"When he created the mechanic? Oh, no. That was little old me, or should I say the part of my spirit in Yuya, reacting to his desire to win! His desire to give the crowd what. They. Wanted."
"AARRRRRGGGHHH!" Yuya cried, the rage in his body overtaking him. His whole life he had felt he was in his dad's shadow, but his discovery of Pendulum had made him feel like he was out of that shadow for the first time. Now, Ren was claiming that it wasn't his? That he had, in fact, been in the shadow of a mass murderer, a champion turned dark? That was the final straw.
"I am the most whole part of our original self…" Ren continued but was cut off by Yuya yelling out.
"SHUT UP!" The pendulum duellist yelled; his red eyes glowing and his hair starting to stand on its ends as a dark aura appeared around his body, Declan and the other boys taking a step back.
"You claim to be the true Zarc but let us see who really is!" Yuya declared, activating his duel disk, which had miraculously repaired itself somehow, and using the blade to cut off the bonds tying Ren down.
Next Chapter Preview: Ren was captured but revealed the unsettling truth to Declan and the Yu-boys, causing Yuya to get a bit mad. The darkness within seemingly taking over, Yuya challenges Ren to a duel, where chaos will surely ensue.

Hey everyone, thanks for reading this week's chapter! This is the second longest chapter in story word count (ie, excluding the preview, custom cards and, well, this) that I have written thus far, and I had a blast writing it. I've been waiting to be able to reveal what was in this chapter for a while now, and I hope you all liked this twist. Now, just before the review responses, some eagle-eyed readers might notice that Ren refers to himself as 'Z-ARC', while Yuya refers to himself as 'Zarc' while under said duelist's power. This IS intentional and will be eventually touched on. Next chapter is Yuya (?) vs Ren (?) and following that we will have a chapter without a duel. Don't know if any of you have written anything Yu-Gi-Oh! before, but it is rather tiring to write a duel to my standards every week, so that is why Chapter 16 will not have any duels in it. Also, I made a slight change to Wave High King's effect to make it permanent and only affect another 'D/D' monster, so yeah.
Now, on to the review!
Aquatic Dragon – Thanks yet again for your review. I'm glad to see that you're enjoying my story, which I know I've said before, but I truly do appreciate it. Now, Zarc, what did you do to Ray? I mean, its not like events that would lead to you wanting to prank her were covered in this chapter. Oh wait. Anyways, I'm glad that you like trying to guess, and it seems that they have paid off! Also, I kinda forgot about the Ren from the manga, tbh, but then again, I've never read it, let alone seen a physical copy lol.
Anyhow, I hope that you all continue to enjoy my story, and I'll see you all next week! - NightWingBOI
