Chapter 17: Night and Day, Light and Darkness Part 1
A mechanical whirring was emitted from the Fusion Dimension's advance base in the Xyz Dimension, the tell-tale sign that the dimensional transporter was running. It eventually materialised a man and a woman, the woman in a set of robes, the man in a suit of armour. Stepping off the platform, the men smirked, and made their way to the command centre. There, they were greeted by the Commander of the Xyz operation, Aster Phoenix.
"It is good to see you made it here safely." Aster greeted, giving a cordial nod towards the new arrivals,
"You sound like you doubt the Professor's technology. Of course we arrived in one piece!" The woman laughed, Aster being slightly disconcerted about the shattered iris the woman had, the heart shaped pupil being even more unnerving,
"The Professor has also entrusted us with some special new decks to assist in this mission. He said that we'd be given an opportunity to practice?" The man asked, although it was more of a demand,
"Of course," The Xyz Commander said, "I was informed of the unique circumstances that bring you here. It is a shame that the two top enforcers left are being brought out to deal with some Resistance scum."
"Well, we, and by that, I mean Lumos and myself, make no mistake, are going to go get something to eat. Dimensional transport really does do something to your hunger levels." The man stated,
"Yes, let us go, Nox." Lumos replied, and with that, they left the bridge and made for the canteen, where the food the Fusion soldiers lovingly referred to as slop was served.
"Those two infuriate me," Aster spoke, seemingly thinking out loud, but none of the soldiers in the same room as him would speak of this, as they'd learnt in training, "That 'better than thou' attitude is just the tip of the iceberg. And the Professor thought to entrust some prototype decks to those fools? Perhaps there's a remnant base nearby that we missed. Dystopia and I may need to take one out to relieve us of this stress." As he finished, he looked back out to the wasteland in front of him, the destroyed buildings on the horizon giving him a twisted sense of satisfaction.
A few hours later, the duo of Lumos and Nox were ready to proceed, having practiced some combos of their new decks, raring to take down some Lancers and Xyz Remnants. Obtaining a vehicle, they started to head out, the coordinates of the Resistance base getting ever closer. Eventually, they saw the building ahead, the wooden structure obviously having seen better days. Unfortunately for them, the buggy they'd obtained was relatively loud, and they were met by a small group of people, being 5 males, and one female, the males consisting of four particular boys that they'd been sent after. They didn't particularly recognise the others, but that wasn't their concern.
Yuya had been roused, along with Yuto, Yuri and Yugo to head outside by Declan. They were joined by Lulu, and when they inquired as to why, they'd been informed that an elimination squad was on the way and that they were to meet them head on. They'd been a bit surprised when the people that exited the buggy that had arrived were so different, even against one another. One seemed to be reflecting light, the other absorbing it. One had a rather bright colour scheme, the other a dark one.
"So you must be our targets!" The one in armour, a man, called,
"It would seem that way, Nox." The other, a woman, confirmed,
"Who do you want to take on first, Lumos?"
"How about I take on the one from this dimension, and you deal with the traitor first?"
"No, we duel the other boys first. The one who started Pendulum is the biggest issue here."
Yuya couldn't believe what he was hearing. It sounded like they were after them, and that they were only two duelists, no more on the way, and as such, they were disagreeing on who to duel first!
"I'll take on one of you!" He called, earning the attention of the man in the armour,
"So, Yuya Sakaki, you shall be my opponent then." Nox stated, readying his duel disk, a small smirk on his face,
"And I'll face the one from this dimension!" Lumos declared, Yuto getting ready in response. Moving a short way out, the two pairs of duelists were ready for their matches, but before the matches started, the pair from Fusion declared, "We shall activate the rule of Extra Monsters for these duels!" a slight surprise spreading across the spectators and duelists alike.
"There's one thing you should know about us." Nox started,
"That we are the elite of the elite!" Lumos continued,
"And we shall take you down!" They both finished, the duels beginning and the Action Field of Crossover flaring to life.
Yuya: 4000 LP vs Nox: 4000 LP
Yuto: 4000 LP vs Lumos: 4000 LP
Extra Monsters in Effect
Yuya vs Nox
Turn 1: Nox
"I'll go first and summon Chosen by the World Chalice to my field!" A young warrior appeared on Nox's field, readying some weaponry.
Chosen by the World Chalice: Level 3, 1600 ATK
"But that is only the beginning! I now open a circuit to reveal the next stage of the journey!"
"WHAT?!" almost everyone shouted, not expecting the Professor to have outfitted his warriors with Link monsters yet, if at all,
"The summoning condition is a single non-Token normal monster, so Chosen by the World Chalice becomes the entire material! Link the circuit to welcome LINK-1, Imduk the World Chalice Dragon to the field!" the monster on Nox's field was soon replaced by a medium-sized dragon that had green and white scales.
Imduk the World Chalice Dragon: LINK-1, 800 ATK, Up arrow
"Then, due to Imduk's effect, I can summon Crowned by the World Chalice in addition to my normal summon. She won't be sticking around long, however, as she and Imduk become the Link material for my next circuit! The summoning conditions this time is two 'World Chalice' monsters, so I think that my two monsters fit that bill perfectly! I Link summon, LINK-2, Auram the World Chalice Blademaster! Imduk's effect then summons a 'World Chalice' monster from my hand, so I think that Beckoned by the World Chalice is a good choice." Nox's field was soon given more strength, as his two newest monsters appeared.
Auram the World Chalice Blademaster: LINK-2, 2000 ATK, Bottom-left and bottom-right arrows
Beckoned by the World Chalice: Level 4, 1800 ATK
"I now activate my Blademaster's effect! Since I have a monster next to its link, I can destroy that monster to resurrect my Imduk!" Beckoned exploded, quickly replaced by the green dragon, "I now activate the Pot of Greed spell card to draw two new cards!"
"That card's banned!" Yuya exclaimed,
"Not in Fusion, it isn't!" Nox laughed, "Now open a third time, the portal that shall reveal the next stage! The summoning conditions are at least two Link monsters, so I set LINK-2 Auram, treated as two materials, and LINK-1 Imduk in the Link arrows! I Link summon, LINK-3, Ningirsu the World Chalice Warrior!" Again, Nox's field entered the Link arrows, this time replaced by a single man, the strongest yet, "But I also get two 'World Chalice' monsters thanks to my link materials' effects!" He summoned a second Chosen and a second Crowned to join his Warrior.
Ningirsu the World Chalice Warrior: LINK-3, 2500 ATK, Up, Left and Right arrows
"I now set the two I summoned from my hand in the link arrows, yet again! The conditions this time are a simple any two non-Link monsters, so my monsters fit the bill perfectly! I Link Summon! Arise, LINK-2, I:P Masquerena!" A girl riding a bike emerged from the portal.
I:P Masquerena: LINK-2, 800 ATK, Bottom-left and bottom-right arrows
"I now end my turn!"
Turn 2: Yuya
Wow, he set up a strong field in only one turn. That Archetype sure is something! Yuya thought to himself as he drew his card, "Well, it looks like I'm in a bit of a pickle, so let's spice some things up! I'll start by setting the pendulum scale with scale 1 Stargazer Magician, and scale 8 Timegazer Magician! I'm taking control of this duel, starting now! Now, my pendulum allows me to summon monsters whose levels are between two and seven, all at the same time! My monsters are ready, and they swing into action! I Pendulum summon! Performapal Partnaga, Performapal Kaleidoscorp and Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon!" Yuya's field was suddenly filled with his monsters, including his ace, and also two other monsters, one a snake with a glove on its tail and a little top hat, and a scorpion with a kaleidoscope for a tail, "Partnaga's effect gives Odd-Eyes 600 extra attack points!"
Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon: Level 7, 2500 ATK - 3100 ATK
Performapal Partnaga: Level 5, 2100 DEF
Performapal Kaleidoscorp: Level 6, 2300 DEF
"In response to your summon, I activate the effect of my I:P Masquerena! I can now link summon on your turn!" Nox declared,
"WHAT?!" Yuya again yelled, shocked at this development,
"The summoning conditions are at least two Link monsters, so I set LINK-3 Ningirsu, treated as three materials, and LINK-2 I:P Masquerena in the link arrows! The warrior once blessed by the almighty World Chalice itself has now achieved the pinnacle of his evolution! Combining the strength of his once adversaries, the Mekk-Knights, and the prowess of the fabled Crusadia tribe, watch as their talents make the ultimate warrior! I LINK SUMMON! LINK-4 Mekk-Knight Crusadia Avermax, arise and prepare to slay the behemoths ahead of you!" The first thing that anyone looking on would see is the monster's sword emerging, imbedding itself in the ground, where the blue-grey steel shone, and then the monster itself emerged, clad in turquoise and steel armour, his blue hair blowing in an invisible breeze. He bore a shield on his left arm, which was of an unfamiliar design, a blue orb making up the majority of the body. He grabbed the blade and prepared to face down against Yuya and his monsters, a cold, calculating glare being all that he emitted.
Mekk-Knight Crusadia Avermax: LINK-4, 3000 ATK, Left, Right, Bottom-left and Bottom-right arrows
"Only three-thousand attack points? Well, Odd-Eyes can already beat over that! Go, Odd-Eyes! Attack Avermax with Spiral Flame Strike!" Odd-Eyes unleashed the blast of fire, which was by now familiar to the spectators, but Nox just smiled,
"Avermax's ability now activates! Since it is battling a special summoned monster, it gains attack points equal to your monster's during damage calculation!" he declared,
"Oh no!" Yuya exclaimed, quickly rushing around for an Action Card, "I activate Acceleration to negate that effect by targeting your monster!"
"Avermax is unable to be targeted by card effects! Now, Decapitation Slash!"
Unable to stop Avermax's ability, Odd-Eyes' attack was absorbed by its shield, but then slashed its blade, doing to Odd-Eyes what the name implied. As Yuya's life points dropped, his eyes were wide, in awe at the power the monster showed.
Yuya: 4000 LP - 1000 LP
"I-I end my turn." Yuya stammered, ending what had been a disastrous turn.
Yuto vs Lumos
Turn 1: Lumos
"I'll go first since I was the one to challenge you!" Lumos declared, starting the duel, "I'll start by activating a copy of Pot of Greed, and then I activate a field spell called Trickstar Light Stage! This allows me to add a copy of Trickstar Lycoris to my hand. Then I activate the effect of my Trickstar Festival spell, special summoning two Trickstar Tokens to my field. I then normal summon my Trickstar Candina, adding Trickstar Reincarnation to my hand by her effect! I now activate the effects of not one, not two, but THREE Trickstar Lycoris in my hand, special summoning each while returning a 'Trickstar' to my hand for each. I return Candina and my tokens just cease to exist." Lumos' field was suddenly swarmed with Idol-like fairies, each with a rapier in hand.
Trickstar Lycoris: Level 3, 1600 ATK (x3)
"Then I play one single face-down card and end my turn." Lumos ended her turn, an almost sadistic smile on her face, the purpose of which Yuto couldn't discern, but he was still cautious, She has to have some sort of plan, he thought, starting his turn,
Turn 2: Yuto
"I draw!" He declared, but was swiftly interrupted by Lumos,
"Oh, in that case the effects of my Lycori activate! You now take two hundred points of damage from each. Oh yeah, then my Light Stage deals you an extra six hundred damage!"
"What!?" Yuto shouted as six blue bolts of lightning shot towards him, shocking him for 1200 damage.
Yuto: 4000 LP - 2800 LP
"Yuto!" Lulu called out, worried for her friend's safety,
"That's not all, though. I also activate my face down Trickstar Reincarnation! This forces you to banish your entire hand then draw that many cards. Now, that'll trigger the effects of my Lycori and my Light Stage dealing a total of seven thousand, two hundred damage!" Lumos' smile developed into a grin, the fragments of her iris seemingly glowing a soft blue, like the lightning that her cards sent.
Gritting his teeth, Yuto placed all his hand in the banish pile, but upon drawing his new hand, he smiled, causing Lumos to take a step back as her cards fired off their effects. "I activate Phantom Knight's Final Orders from my hand! If my graveyard is empty, this trap can be played from my hand! Then I get to select one of three effects! I select the one that prevents me from taking effect damage for the rest of the turn! The only downside to this card is that I can only summon 'The Phantom Knights' monsters or 'Xyz Dragon' monsters for the rest of the turn!"
"NO!" Lumos yelled as a purple energy shield protected Yuto from the damage, a large smile now easily visible on the Xyz duelist's face.
"I now summon The Phantom Knights of Ancient Cloak and The Phantom Knights of Silent Boots, building the overlay network with them! The souls of the fallen rise to fight again! I Xyz Summon, Rank 3, The Phantom Knights of Break Sword! Then Break Sword's effect uses an overlay unit to destroy itself and your field spell! Break Blitz! I then summon its materials back as level four monsters, and build the overlay network once more! Cloaked in shadows and relentless in its objective, I call upon the most dangerous of dragons! I Xyz summon! Rise up, Dark Rebellion Xyz Dragon!" Yuto called forth his ace, the dragon in question snarling when it saw Lumos and her Trickstars, said fairies cowering slightly.
Dark Rebellion Xyz Dragon: Rank 4, 2500 ATK, 2 ORU
"Now I activate Dark Rebellion's effect to steal half your monster's attack points! Treason Discharge!"
Trickstar Lycoris: 1600 ATK - 800 ATK
Dark Rebellion Xyz Dragon: 2500 ATK - 3300 ATK, 2 ORU - 0 ORU
"Now, attack the weakened Lycoris! Mauling Mandible Charge!" Dark Rebellion jutted its jaw out and charged at the Lycoris, who was unable to defend in time, being destroyed as a result.
Lumos: 4000 LP - 1500 LP
"Now I activate the quick-play spell, Xyz Battle Finale! It allows one Xyz monster I control to attack a number of times equal to the number of overlay units used this turn, although I cannot activate nor set other spells or traps for the rest of the turn. Go Dark Rebellion! Mauling Mandible Charge! End this duel!" As Dark Rebellion charged, Lumos held out the last two cards in her hand,
"I activate the effects of Trickstar Corrobane and Trickstar Dandyelle! Corrobane gives the Lycoris you are currently attacking an additional 1600 ATK, while Dandyelle gives her 100 attack points for each of her levels until after damage calculation!"
Trickstar Lycoris: 1600 ATK - 3500 ATK
"NO!" Now it was Yuto's turn to cry out, as the Lycoris Dark Rebellion was charging at suddenly took on a much more confident stance, thrusting her rapier at the ground, stirring up various amounts of rubble, and using the opportunity to jump onto Dark Rebellion's back and plunge her rapier into the base of Dark Rebellion's neck, destroying it with a cry of pain.
Yuto: 2800 LP - 2600 LP
Trickstar Lycoris: 3500 ATK - 1600 ATK
"I⦠end my turn." Yuto stammered, gritting his teeth even harder than he had before.
"And now," Nox said from his duel with Yuya,
"We shall show you both," Lumos continued, her sadistic grin returning,
"Your final curtain!" they finished.
Next Chapter Preview: Locked in deadly duels vs two of Duel Academy's elites, Yuya and Yuto have their work cut out for them, especially given that they are now looking down the barrel of a set of monsters threatening to end not only their duels, but also their lives.

Hey everyone, thanks for reading this week's chapter! This is my first chapter that I'll be splitting into parts, although you should know that those will be few and relatively far between, although I'm sure that anyone who knows the final climax of the original story might be able to tell where one may be, should I put that in my story. Anyway, I would like to talk about deck choice for the new OCs introduced, Lumos and Nox. First, Lumos and her Trickstars. Trickstars are an archetype that I love to play, as the playstyle of punish your opponent for doing, well, anything, is fun. I actually had a rather funny duel in Master Duel recently, as I was playing Trickstar vs Dinomorphia, and they activated their traps in the wrong order while I controlled Candina, costing them the game. I also chose World Chalice for Nox, as they're a relatively basic Link archetype, and Avermax is a very good boss monster. Also, I'd like to hear your thoughts about putting other real world meta/semi-meta decks in this story! You'll also notice that Dark Rebellion has a place in the 'Custom Cards' section, and that's because I gave it a hybrid of the Anime and real world effects it has, as, lets be honest, Dark Rebellion's anime effect would be next to useless, especially in its home dimension, as most half-decent monsters there have ranks rather than levels, but the anime effect works well in a dimension ravaged by Fusion monsters, who would have at least five levels.
Anyways, on to reviews!
Arly99 ā Thank you for your kind words. I'm glad you enjoyed the chapter.
Aquatic Dragon ā Thank you for reviewing yet again. Now that her deck is finally coming together, its really getting me excited to write a duel for her! Also, if you'd rather, you can handle the monsters of the deck and I can do the spells/traps if that makes it easier. That gag is also certainly up for consideration, and to answer your questions, and also for anyone else who may be wondering, Ren does have the face of the Yu-Boys, being another reincarnation of Zarc, and his age is 21, meaning he would have been 5 when he awoke in the Standard Dimension.
Now, I'm sure that you all are eagerly looking forward to the conclusion to the duels, but I'm sorry, but you'll have to wait until next week. See you all then! - NightWingBOI
