Chapter 18: Night and Day, Light and Darkness; Part 2
Where we left off: Yuya and Yuto started dueling two of the Professor's enforcers, Nox and Lumos respectively. Being beaten into a corner, how will the two recover and hope to beat their adversaries?
Current State of the Duel(s):
Yuya vs Nox
1000 LP vs 4000 LP
Yuya has one card in his hand and controls the following:
Performapal Partnaga: Level 5, 2100 DEF
Performapal Kaleidoscorp: Level 6, 2300 DEF
And has a pendulum scale set with Scale 1 Stargazer Magician and Scale 8 Timegazer Magician
Nox has one card in his hand and controls the following:
Mekk-Knight Crusadia Avermax: LINK-4, 3000 ATK, Left, Right, Bottom-left and Bottom-right arrows (Summoned with I:P Masquerena)
It is currently the third turn, which belongs to Nox.
Yuto vs Lumos
2600 LP vs 1500 LP
Yuto has two cards in his hand, but controls no cards on his field
Lumos has no cards in her hand and controls the following:
Trickstar Lycoris: Level 3, 1600 ATK (x2)
It is currently the third turn, which belongs to Lumos.
Both Yuya and Yuto were exhausted. They'd only had one turn in their respective duels, but it felt like only the most intense duels yet. Staring down their opponents, they could see Yuri, Yugo, Lulu, and Declan all standing to the side, the first two getting ready to step in if necessary. Their opponents both held smiles, although not of the kind that Yuya and Yuto would like.
Yuya vs Nox
Turn 3: Nox
"This is where you lose! I activate a spell called World Legacy's Finale, which allows Avermax to attack directly this turn, but you take halved damage! Now go, Mekk-Knight Crusadia Avermax! Attack directly and end this duel!" Nox called as he ordered the Link monster to charge. Jumping forward, Yuya jumped out of the way, running for an Action card, which he could now see. Being very swift, but also careful, he realised due to the beeping coming from his duel disk that he had only a few more seconds before the attack was counted, but just when he saw the digital 'one' appear, he slotted in the card he'd picked up, calling out
"Evasion! This Action Spell negates your attack!" He could hear his opponent's growl as the attack missed, slamming into the ground beneath his feet,
"Lucky shot. Next time you won't be so lucky! I end my turn!" Nox said as his monster returned to his side.
Turn 4: Yuya
"Alright! Now, lets get this duel going my way once again! I DRAW!" As he drew his card, Yuya suddenly noticed his pendant glowing, and in his mind, he saw a monster that looked like Odd-Eyes, but it also had some other characteristics similar to a Link monster that Declan had entrusted to him following Ren's recent defeat, which released a prideful roar, seemingly willing him to summon it. "Now, what am I to do? I have only two cards in my hand, and my opponent has a fearsome monster that counters all special summoned monsters, so it looks like there is no hope! But I'm about to prove that wrong! I activate the Performance Callspell card, discarding Performapal Camelump from my hand to add my Performapals Friendonkey and Cheermole to my hand! I now summon Friendonkey, who's ability special summons my Cheermole from my hand, but watch as my monsters show off a whole new trick! I open the circuit that shall bring smiles to everyone! The summoning conditions are at least two monsters, but I'll have to set all four of my monsters in the Link arrows! I Link summon, LINK-4, Corrupting Tail Link Dragon!" The dragon that Ren had owned emerged from the portal, unleashing a seemingly happy roar at being summoned by Yuya, but both it and Yuya knew they weren't done yet.
Corrupting Tail Link Dragon: LINK-4, 2500 ATK, Up, Down, Left and Right Arrows
"Now, swing far Pendulum! Carve the arc of VICTORY! My monster is ready… To swing into ACTION! Turn up the heat, Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon!" Yuya's ace emerged from the Pendulum portal, also releasing a happy roar as it saw Corrupting Tail on Yuya's field.
Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon: Level 7, 2500 ATK
"But that's far from all! I open my circuit once again! This time, the summoning conditions are at least two Dragon-type monsters, but they must both have effects, and one must be a Pendulum monster, so I set Odd-Eyes and Corrupting Tail, treated as four materials, into the Link Arrows! Link the circuit and bring smiles to all! I LINK SUMMON! Dragon with dichromatic eyes and a tail that can corrupt even the most secure of servers, I call upon your strength! Arise, LINK-5! Odd-Eyes Corruption Dragon!" The roar that Yuya had heard in his mindspace was the first anyone else heard from the portal, Nox even taking a step back, eyes wide. The dragon that emerged could only be described as paradoxically beautiful, the dim light of the war-torn Xyz dimension catching on its rough, red and white scales, its blue and green eyes gleaming in joy. Bearing its fangs, the dragon stood tall over all, Yuya being brought up to stand on its large head by a careful tail. Yuya himself stood, arms held wide, as he was now perched on the largest dragon he'd owned's head. A wide smile on his face as even Mekk-Knight Crusadia Avermax and the duo of Trickstar Lycori, along with another monster he didn't know the name of, from Yuto and Lumos' duel took a step back, and if he looked closely, Yuya could see what may have been fear in the eyes of the monsters.
Odd-Eyes Corruption Dragon: LINK-5, 3000 ATK, Up, Left, Right, Bottom Left and Bottom Right Arrows
"Ha!" Nox laughed, "Your dragon may look intimidating, but that's it! My monster can still destroy yours with ease!"
"That's where you're wrong! When Odd-Eyes Corruption Dragon is successfully Link summoned, you must select one monster you control and negate its effects. Then Corruption Dragon gains those effects for itself. And since this affects you, not your monster, your monster's ability is unable to prevent this!"
"WHAT!? How dare you!" Nox yelled as the colour drained from Avermax, and Corruption Dragon started to grow even larger as it absorbed the monster's data, letting out another roar, now easily dwarfing any monster bar Ren's Rank 13 Xyz monster. His voice amplified by his duel disk, Yuya called out that he was entering the battle phase,
"Odd-Eyes Corruption Dragon! Attack Mekk-Knight Crusadia Avermax! Spiral Corrupting Strike!" A stream of red flame mixed with blue data flew forward from the large dragon's mouth, which gained the attack points of Avermax now that it had that ability.
"I activate Miracle! This prevents my monster's destruction and I take halved damage!"
"That doesn't work! When a Pendulum monster attacks, Stargazer Magician's Pendulum ability prevents spells from being activated. What's more, there's something that will bring down the curtains on this duel! When Odd-Eyes Corruption Dragon attacks a Level or Rank 5 or higher monster, or a LINK-4 or higher monster, it deals double battle damage! Inferno Annihilation! The heat of the flames suddenly increased as the beam moved towards Avermax, who futility tried to resist it, but it was soon engulfed along with Nox, who was swiftly seen flying out of the beam, screaming in pain.
Nox: 4000 LP - 0 LP
Yuya wins!
Looking over at the other duel, Yuya could see that Yuto hadn't won yet, but he seemed to be holding on, however, the cards that Lumos was playing seemed to be taking their toll on the Xyz duelist. Good luck, Yuto, Yuya thought as he headed over to the rest of the group to show his support.
Yuto vs Lumos
Turn 3: Lumos (occurring concurrently with Nox's turn)
"Well, it seems like your show is about to end, Xyz scum. I draw, but that is unimportant! I now summon Trickstar Candina once again, who's effect gives me another Light Stage, which I activate, adding Trickstar Lilybell to my hand, who special summons herself since she was added to my hand other than by drawing her. Now, I open a circuit to turn your dreams into a nightmare! The summoning conditions are a simple one level two or lower 'Trickstar', so Lilybell gets put in the link arrow! I Link summon, LINK-1, Trickstar Bloom! Now her effect activates, allowing you to draw one card, dealing you a total of 800 damage!" As Yuto drew his card and took the damage, a small pixie like monster appeared on Lumos' field, holding a flower that looked far too big for her relatively speaking.
Trickstar Bloom: LINK-1, 100 ATK, Bottom arrow
Yuto: 2600 LP - 1900 LP
"Now, I build another circuit! The summoning conditions are any two 'Trickstars' so I set Bloom and Candina in the Link arrows! Bloom and show me a good time, LINK-2, Trickstar Holly Angel!" A young woman emerged from the link portal, wielding a flail, which slightly unnerved Yuto.
Trickstar Holly Angel: LINK-2, 2000 ATK, Bottom Left and Bottom Right arrows
"Now go, Holly Angel! Attack directly and end his miserable existence! Bloom Baton!" As Holly Angel whipped her flail, Yuto quickly slammed a card onto the blade of his duel disk,
"By doing so, you allow me to activate The Phantom Knights of Denied Battle summoning it to my field as a monster, meaning I can negate the attack and end the battle phase! I should thank you. Its only thanks to your Bloom's effect that I drew this card." Yuto taunted,
"Fine then, I end my turn." Lumos growled through gritted teeth. At this moment, they heard the roar of Yuya's dragon, and they both looked over, seeing the immense dragon. Heh, Yuto thought, That's gonna win Yuya his duel. I can feel it just by looking at it. What he didn't realise was that his own extra deck was glowing, another card having appeared in it.
The Phantom Knights of Denied Battle: Level 2, 300 DEF
Turn 4: Yuto
"Now, I'll start things off by summoning a second Ancient Cloak and Silent Boots!" When Yuto, who had taken an additional 800 damage, and as his opponent explained, Holly Angel gaining the damage the Lycori had dealt as ATK, summoned his monsters, he noticed that the extra deck tab on his duel disk was giving him a notification that he could summon not one monster, like he'd expect, but a second which he didn't recognise. Very well, lets give this a try, he though reading the card's effect, "I shall now open a circuit that shall lead to the eternal battle! The summoning conditions are at least two DARK monsters, so I shall set Denied Battle, Ancient Cloak and Silent Boots in the Link arrows! I Link summon! Bring your axe down and lead us to victory! LINK-3, The Phantom Knights of Rusty Bardiche!" The most complete of any monster that Yuto had summoned, barring his dragons, emerged from the portal, the dim sunlight somehow glittering as it hit the monster's rusty armour.
Yuto: 1900 LP - 1100 LP
The Phantom Knights of Rusty Bardiche: LINK-3, 2300 ATK, Bottom Left, Bottom Right and Right Arrows
Trickstar Holly Angel: 2000 ATK - 2400 ATK
"Now I activate Denied Battle's effect! If it is used as material for a summon, except a Tribute Summon, I can summon any two monsters that share a level from my graveyard by banishing it! Rise to fight again, Ancient Cloak and Silent Boots! Now, I build the overlay network once again! I Xyz summon another Break Sword, who is summoned next to Bardiche's Link, triggering its ability! I destroy your Holly Angel!" As a second Break Sword appeared, Bardiche brought its axe down on Holly Angel, destroying it,
The Phantom Knights of Break Sword: Rank 3, 2000 ATK, 2 ORU
"Now I set one card and activate Break Sword's effect, destroying both your Light Stage and the face down on my field. Break Blitz! Then the effect of my Phantom Knight's Sword that I destroyed activates! I banish it to summon the Break Sword in my graveyard back!" Yuto's first Break Sword emerged from the graveyard raring to go,
"Your lucky that Bardiche's effect is only once per turn! But that doesn't matter! For the summon of this next Xyz monster, I require two Xyz monsters who share the same Rank of three! I overlay my two Break Swords, and build the overlay network! Battered and beaten by countless centuries of despair, watch as a new warrior emerges! I Xyz summon, Rank 3, The Phantom Knights of Accursed Blade!" Coming out from the portal was a new Xyz monster, two large claymores at its sides. The phantasmal spirit within it was poking out from the ruined visor of the helmet it wore, and it settled beside Bardiche, readying its blades.
The Phantom Knights of Accursed Blade: Rank 3, 3000 ATK, 2 ORU
"Now, go! Accursed Blade attacks one of your Lycoris! Abysmal Demise!" Unsheathing a single sword, Yuto's monster rushed at the stronger of the Lycoris, easily cleaving through her.
Lumos: 1500 LP - 100 LP
"Now Accursed Blade's special ability activates! By detaching one overlay unit, it can banish all copies of the monster it just destroyed from anywhere! Wretched Call!" Unsheathing its second sword, you could see that it had some strange grooves in it, but they were soon filled in with the dark glow of an overlay unit as it was absorbed, a single slash banishing all three copies of Lycoris.
The Phantom Knights of Accursed Blade: 2 ORU - 1 ORU
"No, wait just one second, can't we talk things out?!" Lumos exclaimed, but not a second later, Nox was sent flying from Yuya's winning attack, and Yuto just smiled,
"Now, answer me this. If I were in the same situation, would you allow me to 'talk things out'?" Yuto asked, already knowing the answer, which was confirmed when Lumos gulped rather vigorously, "That's what I thought. Rusty Bardiche, bring down your axe and end this duel!" the said monster whipped out its axe and tore towards the terrified duelist, bringing it down with a single slash.
Lumos: 100 LP - 0 LP
Yuto wins!
Having finished his duel, Yuto walked over to the now two high pile of defeated elites, looks of absolute terror upon their faces. Bringing up his duel disk, they started to squirm, but when Yuto pressed a button, instead of carding the two duelists, a metallic rope shot out, wrapping itself around the wrists of the defeated duelists. Leaning down and pulling their decks loose, Yuto headed back over, where everyone was waiting, Yuya having joined them since he last looked.
"Well," Declan said, his tone slightly bringing down the celebratory mood, "I think it is safe to say that the current location of the Resistance base is no longer a safe spot to rest. It would be in our best idea to find another place to camp until our allies are ready for the assault on Fusion." After everyone nodded their agreement, Declan went to retrieve Ren, who had been bound and gagged by the Xyz Resistance, who swore that it would be almost inescapable. A small smile of satisfaction was on Declan's lips as the CEO moved out with Yuya, Yuto, Yuri, Yugo and Lulu, having made another satisfactory alliance with another dimension, the last remains of Xyz's Resistance agreeing to fight alongside them, especially since it would lead to the end of the interdimensional war.
When Declan returned, he saw the boys and Lulu looking out at the horizon, seemingly focused on something he couldn't exactly see at that moment. "What's out there?" He asked,
"There's someone approaching. Allegiance unknown, but the duel disk's signal is from Standard." Yuto said, not taking his attention off the approaching person. As they got closer, Declan couldn't help but notice that there was a strange aura of familiarity as they approached. A dozen or so metres away, the person was identifiable as a female, about twenty-one years of age. Her clothing was starkly out of place, bright and cheerful, as well as clearly more suited for everyday life, as it consisted of denim shorts, a sleeveless shirt, sandals, and a simple coat adorned with butterfly patterns, as opposed to the drabber colouring, and more practical for fighting off an invasion, of the Resistance members. Her duel disk was indeed that of the Standard dimension, but seemingly with some modifications made to the body of indiscernible use, a deck of cards clearly visible against the blue body. The duelists all held their duel disks at standby, ready to engage if necessary. Seeing this, the girl put her hands up, the Xyzian sun shining off her hair, which was a stark white, lime highlights running through it, but predominantly on two pigtails, which hung to the side of her head, as well as on the earrings she wore, which were shaped like leaves, and the bracelet on her wrist, her face framed by white bangs which were parted on the left side.
"State your name and purpose." Declan demanded,
"My name is Izumi, and I hail from Standard, before any of you ask. I am here to track down a friend who went missing." The girl said, and now getting a clear look at her, they noticed that despite being a few years older, and noticeably more tanned, she clearly had the face that Zuzu, Celina, Lulu and, according to Yugo, Rin shared. The girl, Izumi, was looking around, her eyes stopping on Ren, who seemed to just have noticed her, and a smile appeared on her face, his eyes widening, showing what everyone could only call fear, which surprised and unnerved everyone, as Ren was a terrifying duelist, and if he is fearful of her, what could she be capable of? "Ren! Oh, there you are!" She exclaimed seeing him, "How did you get yourself in this mess?" she asked, while also turning to the others, "I do notice that he has been bound and gagged. I hope he didn't cause too much trouble for you all." She said, seemingly apologising to them,
"You say that he's a friend?" Yuri asked, intrigued,
"Yeah, we've known each other since childhood. I'd be surprised if he hadn't mentioned me in any capacity." Izumi nodded, no one noticing that the blue gem on her bracelet was ever so slightly glowing, as was Yuya's pendant,
"Actually, no he hasn't mentioned you, but he did say some rather concerning things that led to his current indisposition." Declan said, still keeping his duel disk at the ready,
"Oh, are you still going on about that 'Supreme King' thing, Ren?" Izumi seemingly teased, Yuya seeing sadness in Izumi's eyes as she said so, "I would have thought that you would've grown out of it by now." Everyone else's eyes went wide at that, Ren's eyes instead narrowing, and he started to make as much of a gesture as possible to be ungagged, but no one paid it much mind.
"I'm sorry, but you know about that?" Yuya said, incredulously,
"Yeah, after all, I said he was my childhood friend, did I not?"
"We were about to move to a safer spot, but we would still like to continue this conversation," Declan said, drawing everyone's attention, "I suppose that we could wait another hour or so."
"Well, if it means that I might be able to drag Ren back home, sure!" Izumi smiled, and Declan proceeded to lead the group that was now a member larger back inside, Ren's struggling against his bonds only made more prominent as Izumi got closer to him, and they sat at the table that
As they sat, Yuya couldn't help but notice that the two dragons in his deck, Odd-Eyes and Corrupting Tail, seemed drawn to Izumi, and later questioning of his counterparts revealed that their dragons also felt drawn to her, but none of them could explain it. As a pot of tea was brought to them, Lulu poured them each a cup, but it was obvious that she was always keeping an eye on Izumi, startled that her face was so similar, and Declan looked over at Izumi, as if he was waiting for her to explain.
"Well," The girl said, "I suppose I should explain."
Next Chapter Preview: Izumi tells her tale of how she got to the Xyz dimension, and more importantly, how she knows Ren. What will come of the revelations she may impart?

I would like to preface this Author's Note by apologising that this week and last week's chapters were a day late. Last week I had a lot of things going on, and this week has been a big rollercoaster, with me not feeling the best on Monday and Tuesday, having an exam on Wednesday and a test on Thursday. I again apologise for these delays, but next week we should be back to the normal schedule. Anyways, there we have it! The conclusion to the duels against Lumos and Nox, and we also meet someone who has been in the works for quite the few weeks as of when I write this. This character is Izumi, a character created by my lovely reviewer Aquatic Dragon, who graciously granted me permission to use her in this story, along with her deck. I am currently working with Aquatic Dragon to fully flesh out her deck, but that doesn't mean that she won't duel! Just so its clear, Izumi is to the Bracelet Girls as Ren is to the Yu-Boys, but what brought her to Xyz? Well, that's in next week's chapter, so look forward to that! Also, I don't think the Duel Sanctuary is such an effective hideout for the Resistance anymore, given how many people have found it, lol.
I also am pleased to introduce the first Link-Pendulum monster that I know of, being my Odd-Eyes Corruption Dragon! When I was creating it, I wanted to make sure that it wouldn't be as busted as Judgement Arrows from VRAINS when in the pendulum zone, and it is kind of future proofing the card in case I move the Pendulum Zones to the Spell and Trap Zones, like in MR4 IRL. This does also bring up something else. In case you all were wondering, the field while 'Extra Monsters' is in effect is the MR3 field but with Extra Monster Zones at the top. Anyways, onto reviews!
Aquatic Dragon – Thank you, yet again, for reviewing! This chapter has been a long time coming and I hope that this was satisfactory. Anyways, thank you for more cards for Izumi's deck as well, she should be dueling relatively soon, so any card is a big help, and I am eternally grateful that you allowed me to use and develop Izumi.
Well, I'll see you all next week where Izumi will detail her history, and I hope you all enjoyed. See you all later - NightWingBOI
