Chapter 32: Blizzard Warning

Edit (30/01/2023): Fixed a few errors with the text.

Fusion Dimension – Yusho Duel School

It had been nearly a month since Rin had been freed from the clutches of Duel Academy, and taken to Yusho, but she couldn't remember feeling so on edge. Not even fleeing from Sector Security with Yugo after they'd been caught trespassing in a Tops Only area compared. She'd made quick friends with Alexis and Jesse, the two of them both being rather concerned about a 'him' who was still trapped under Duel Academy's yoke. When she tried to press for details, all they said was that he was a very strong duelist, with perhaps only two people in the dimension, if not the dimensions, that could beat him. They also said that there had been a change in his personality not long after the Professor had arrived in Fusion. This obviously concerned Rin, as it seemed directly connected, which Alexis and Jesse had confirmed. Yusho had been seemingly getting slightly restless in recent days, as if he could feel that something was going to happen, and had been preparing his students for such a development. Rin hadn't been able to duel against Alexis or Jesse yet, however, and she kind of wanted to before they set out to defeat Duel Academy, as she had heard that the probability of many of the students at Yusho returning alive was slim. While it partially reminded her of the harsh conditions she used to live under in the Synchro Dimension, she was determined to make sure that her friends wouldn't fall. She'd also gotten a few upgrades to her deck, which she was more than happy about, considering that more than half her deck had previously consisted of mostly searching cards for either WIND monsters or spellcasters, as those were the two relevant type in her deck. After a session where she continued to practice her combos against some of the other students, Jesse seemed to change his tune slightly,

"So, Rin. I was thinkin' how 'bout you and I duel?" Jesse asked,

"You've finally caved?" Rin replied, jokingly,

"Eh, I guess. Been a while since we met, and you've only proven yourself as a strong duelist. Alexis and myself were slightly hesitant since we didn't know how strong of a duelist you were before, y'know?"

"I get that. Back in New Domino you had to be strong to survive." Jesse solemnly nodded after Rin said so, having sympathised with her past,

"Well, shall we? But don't be surprised if I duel like you're a Duel Soldier, ok?"

"Certainly! And that's perfectly fine. I'd prefer the challenge!" The pair took up positions on a duel court, and Rin noticed Alexis on the sidelines, a small smile on her face as Rin and Jesse activated their duel disks.

"Let's Duel!" They both exclaimed.

Rin: 4000 LP

Jesse: 4000 LP

Turn 1: Rin

"If you don't mind, I'll take the first turn. And with it, I summon Windwitch – Ice Bell, which is a Special Summon as I control no monsters. Her effect then allows me to summon the tuner monster, Windwitch – Glass Bell from my deck. Then, I activate Glass Bell's effect and chain Ice Bell's second effect. Ice Bell allows me to deal 500 damage to you, and Glass Bell adds Windwitch – Snow Bell from my deck to my hand." As Rin's witches started to appear, Jesse was hit with a small blizzard, his life points dropping as he covered his face.

Jesse: 4000 LP - 3500 LP

"Next, I tune Level 4 Glass Bell and Level 3 Ice Bell! Frozen witch claim your spot among the blistering cold winds! I Synchro Summon! Level 7 Windwitch – Winter Bell! Then, her effect activates! It allows me to deal you 200 damage for each level Glass Bell has! Winter Winds!" Rin's ace monster emerged from the summoning rings, and with a wave of its hand-like appendages and a cry, a second blizzard was summoned, Jesse having to dig his heels in to not move.

Windwitch – Winter Bell: Level 7, 2400 ATK

Jesse: 3500 LP - 2700 LP

"Then, I set 2 cards face down and end my turn!" Rin declared, the face-downs appearing behind her ace.

Turn 2: Jesse

"That was a mighty fine first turn but I'll be able to take things back! I draw!" Jesse said, before Rin discarded a card from her hand,

"The effect of Windwitch – Blizzard Bell. Only on your turn can I activate this, but I can discard it and deal you 500 damage!" Rin announced, Jesse gritting his teeth slightly,

Jesse: 2700 LP - 2200 LP

"I shall activate the continuous spell Rainbow Bridge of the Heart which allows me to summon a 'Crystal Beast' alongside my Normal Summon or Set. I Summon Crystal Beasts Ruby Carbuncle and Amethyst Cat. Then, I activate the effect of Rainbow Bridge of the Heart. It allows me to destroy Ruby and add a 'Crystal' spell or trap to my hand. I add the spell Crystal Rule to my hand, and then Ruby's effect allows me to activate it as a Continuous Spell instead of sending it to my graveyard." Two monsters appeared on Jesse's field, both feline in appearance, but the smaller one quickly collapsed into a giant ruby as a card slotted itself out from Jesse's deck, "Then, I play Crystal Rule. This allows me to activate Crystal Beasts Amber Mammoth and Topaz Tiger in my Spell and Trap zones, then summon Crystal Beast Sapphire Pegasus so long as I banish him during the End Phase. Then, this triggers Rainbow Bridge's effect, allowing me to return both it and your Winter Bell to the hand!" As more gemstones appeared on Jesse's field, Rin's eyes widened and Winter Bell disappeared, alongside Jesse's continuous spell.

Crystal Beast Amethyst Cat: Level 3, 1200 ATK

Crystal Beast Sapphire Pegasus: Level 4, 1800 ATK

"Next, I play a field spell! Ancient City – Rainbow Ruins. This card gains effects based on the number of 'Crystal Beasts' that are Continuous Spells on my field, but that doesn't matter right now. I now activate Crystal Ultimate. I can only activate this card if I have 3 or more 'Crystal Beasts' in my Spell and Trap zones. This spell then immediately destroys itself, and in return, I can activate Crystal Beasts Cobalt Eagle and Emerald Tortoise in my spell and trap zones. Then, I can activate the effect of Rainbow Ruins to draw one card." Jesse gained a smirk upon seeing the card, which Rin really didn't like, "Now, I think I should tell you something. There are seven total 'Crystal Beasts', and I now have them all on my field. There is also a special card in my deck that requires all seven to be either on my field or in my graveyard," Rin quickly counted, and indeed, Jesse did control seven 'Crystal Beasts' with different names, "And now I shall summon it! Dragon with gleaming scales, gain the power of the Crystal Beasts! Rainbow Dragon I call on you!" Jesse chanted as a massive white dragon with a yellow crest appeared. Rin gulped when she saw the stat line of the monster.

Rainbow Dragon: Level 10, 4000 ATK

"I said I wouldn't hold back, and hold back I won't! I can now summon a monster from my extra deck because I summoned an 'Ultimate Crystal' monster by its own effect! And Rainbow Dragon is indeed an 'Ultimate Crystal' monster! I banish the Rainbow Dragon and all seven Crystal Beasts to Fusion Summon! Dragon god with rainbow wings, I beseech you to come and win this battle! CONTACT FUSION! Ultimate Crystal Rainbow Dragon Overdrive join me!" The two crystal beasts that Jesse controlled turned into their gem form, if not in there already, and flew towards the Rainbow Dragon, embedding themselves in the slots along its body, and the dragon swelled in size, roaring.

Ultimate Crystal Rainbow Dragon Overdrive: Level 12, 4000 ATK

"Now, my dragon gains seven thousand attack points, so long as I have seven or more banished 'Crystal Beasts' with different names, which I do." Jesse announced, the dragon letting down a scornful glare at Rin's nearly empty field, and it let out a very loud roar,

"S-Seven th-thousand?!" Rin stuttered, nervous sweat starting to run down her forehead,

Ultimate Crystal Rainbow Dragon Overdrive: 4000 ATK - 11,000 ATK

"Rainbow Dragon, attack and end this duel! Rainbow Overdrive Ultimate!"

"I activate the trap card Lost Wind! This negates your Dragon's effect and halves its attack points!" Rin hastily declared,

"Good job! Not many can do so to my dragon. But it doesn't protect you from the blow, however!" Jesse responded,

Ultimate Crystal Rainbow Dragon Overdrive: 11,000 ATK - 2000 ATK

Rin: 4000 LP - 2000 LP

"I now end my turn."

Turn 3: Rin

"Let's finish you off this turn! I draw! Then, I activate my other face-down, Icy Breeze Refrain! This allows me to summon Ice Bell from my graveyard. Ice Bell then allows me to deal you 500 damage!"

Jesse: 2200 LP - 1700 LP

"Then, I normal summon a second Glass Bell, choosing not to activate her effect. I now Synchro Summon again, calling Winter Bell back to my field, using her effect again on Glass Bell! Then, I play the spell card Windwitch Chimes to summon the tuner monster Windwitch – Snow Bell!" Rin called another Windwitch to her field as her ace returned.

Jesse: 1700 LP - 900 LP

"Now, Level 1 Snow Bell tunes Level 7 Winter Bell! Witch of ice, crystalise and become like diamond itself! I Synchro Summon! Level 8, Windwitch – Diamond Bell, take to the field! Then, I activate her effect. This deals you damage equal to half the attack points of a 'Windwitch' in my graveyard. I choose Winter Bell," Rin's smile was soft, as was Jesse's as he dropped his arm with his duel disk, accepting defeat, "Diamond Shattering." The largest blizzard that Rin had summoned yet appeared, chilling Jesse and the spectating Alexis to the bone, Rin seemingly unaffected.

Windwitch – Diamond Bell: Level 8, 2800 ATK

Jesse: 900 LP - 0 LP

Rin Wins!

"Good job!" Alexis called standing up from the bench she sat on, "I don't think I've seen anyone beat Jesse at full power like that before."

"Oh it was nothing." Rin sheepishly replied,

"Don't undersell yourself," Jesse said, clapping a hand on Rin's shoulder, "You really did well." The smiles on her friend's faces were warm, and Rin blushed slightly from embarrassment,

"So, you ready to take down Duel Academy?" Alexis asked,

"I think I'm more than ready, but what would you say to a duel, Alexis? Have I proven myself worthy of facing you?" Rin joked, faux deference in her voice, and the three cracked up laughing,

"Yeah, I think you have." Alexis replied.

Synchro Dimension – Former High Council Building

Yusei and Crow had taken the girl that Yusei had defeated hostage. They wouldn't be offering her up for trade yet, however, as there was information they needed to get out of her.

"Firstly, you can tell us your name." Yusei said, his voice relatively cold,

"Rose." The girl replied,

"What, like your monster card?" Crow asked, slightly confused,

"Mine's spelled with an 's' and the card with a 'z'."

"And what were you and your cohorts doing in New Domino?" Yusei asked,

"And why should I tell you that?" To that, Yusei and Crow vaguely gestured at the fact that she was currently bound to a chair, two of Synchro's strongest duelists standing over her, "Ah, right. We were ordered to by the Professor."

"So, what was your goal? You had to have one, didn't you?" Crow inquired,

"*sigh* We were to card as many people as possible, while defeating as many duelists as we could." Rose answered,

"Do you know what for?" Yusei was concerned about this development, and he didn't doubt that she was telling the truth either,

"Personally, no, but I think a few others may. People like our field leader, Professor Y."

"Professor Y? Is he this 'the Professor' you mentioned?"

"Different people. The Professor is the leader of Duel Academy, while Professor Y is the Advanced Duel Techniques teacher." Rose responded, struggling against her binds, "I do know however, that this isn't the first dimension we've lay waste to. The Xyz Dimension similarly was invaded. Wait, you two are aware of the other dimensions?"

"Yeah. Got some trustworthy allies going after your home." Crow said, sitting down and leaning on a chair,

"Now, Rose. I do want to come to a beneficial agreement here. For both parties," Yusei said, "How about, in return for you giving us as much other information that you know, we let you sort-of free."

"Sort-of free?" Rose questioned,

"We'll keep your sword-duel disk thing and your deck, as well as confine you to the place we're using as a base, as well as have a person watch over you, but otherwise you'd be free." Yusei clarified,

"That sound more beneficial to you."

"I didn't say it would be equal. Only beneficial, in which case you'd not be bound to a cell."

"I'll think about it." Rose said.

"Well, that's all for now. Let the guard know when you've came to a decision." Yusei said, leaving the cell, Crow following,

"So, that 'Professor' and 'Professor Y'." Crow started,

"Yeah. They may be a problem. I hope Jack and the Lancers can deal with the Professor, as I doubt he's here." Yusei replied,

"Yes. Well, the frontlines call, old friend."

"That it does. Let's go!" And the two friends hopped on their Duel Runners and tore off to where the fighting was taking place.

Synchro Dimension – Fusion Dimension Forward Base

At the base that the Duel Academy forces had set up, a nervous soldier approached her commander, the infamous Professor Y. Despite teaching Advanced Dueling Techniques, no student had ever seen him duel, and had not even seen his duel disk or deck. They knew he had one, as he often spoke of his cards in the vaguest sense in class, but that was it. "Professor Y, sir." The soldier saluted,

"Yes?" The man in front of her growled,

"Operative Rose has been captured by the Synchro Resistance. We lost contact about a half hour ago, and scouts have just confirmed her being taken by Yusei Fudo and Crow Hogan, the two duelists that have been leading the frontlines."

"Heh. I knew she was weak anyway. Don't send anyone after her." Professor Y's voice was relatively deep, yet uncaring,

"S-Sir?!"

"Is that insubordination? I thought you knew not to question your superior officer's orders?"

"My apologies, Sir. It was just a reaction that I didn't suppress, sir." The soldier gulped,

"Don't worry about apologising. After all, that was your last mistake." The soldier's eyes widened as Professor Y raised an arm, revealing the duel disk screen built into his gauntlet and a purple light emitted, the scream of terror reverberating through the camp. Standing up, Professor Y removed the card from the printer and tossed it to the ground and grinding it under his heel. He then walked out of the room, his royal purple cape billowing, and walked to the teleporter that had been set up.

"I have business in Fusion. Also, let the highest ranked lieutenant know that they've been promoted. I defer command to them for now." As the soldiers around him saluted and opened up the teleporter, Y stepped into the room and the teleporter powered up. He removed a card from a slot on his arm, and smiled, his eyes lightly glowing. "Well Edge. It looks like we have a job to do." An evil smile was on his face, and he broke out in manic laughter as he teleported back to the Fusion Dimension.

Next Chapter Preview: The Lancers, now having intel about the Fusion Base in Xyz, move in an attempt to capture the base. Unfortunately, the base's commander has different ideas.

And that's that! Thank you all for reading this chapter, and I hope you enjoyed. In it, we saw Rin duel Jesse, which I hope you all liked. I spent probably an hour thinking of Jesse's turn alone, lol. He'll probably be the only person ever to be able to play Crystal Beasts consistently, but hey, that's what happens in Yu-Gi-Oh anyway. Now to answer who'd win that duel between Alexis and Rin, I'll leave that one up to you guy's imagination. Also, Rose's interrogation I'm not too sure if it's any accurate to what a real one looks like, but hey, I don't watch anything remotely related to such practices. Now, to reply to reviews!

Aqua – I'll be entirely honest, the concept for Rose literally popped into my head randomly one day like 'what if there was someone who vaguely looks like Sky Striker Ace - Raye and uses Sky Strikers'. She's literally meant to just be the 'villain of the week', but I do get where you're coming from.

naminexriku – I actually hadn't heard of that monster until you mentioned it. And I would like to thank you for bringing it to my attention, and to answer the question; I'm not sure. I would need a reason for Yuya and Yuto to recombine if I'm being honest, and they probably aren't.

Devil Kaiser – Thank you for reviewing, and to answer your question, I'm not really sure I can say that I have a favourite. I do really like Lulu's Lyriluscs, but I also can't help but like Izumi's Four Seasons. Sorry if you were looking for a specific answer, but this is the best I could do.

Apologies for this chapter being late, I was having a bit of trouble writing it, so that was fun, and next week there won't be a chapter, as I'll be returning to school from my summer break, and as such, I'll need to take that week off from writing. Thank you again for reading, and I'll see you all next time! - NightWingBOI
