Chapter 37: Attack on Duel Academy
It was a few days later when everything was in position. A transport ship had arrived in the port the previous day and was scheduled to leave that night. Yusho had organised it so that he'd be taking his most elite duelists to Duel Academy proper, the rest running interference on the mainland, while Declan would be taking all his Lancers with him. It had been quite the little while since Yuri had acted as a villain so he'd been practicing the manner that Duel Academy knew him by for a few days and the people who'd fled Duel Academy previously had reportedly been freaked out by how he'd slipped back into that mask. Standing near the port, Declan and Yusho were standing at the head of the group, chatting about the smaller details that the rest weren't to be privy to. Declan then nodded and turned around, approaching the four Yu-Boys. "I trust you all remember how Ren held copies of your dragons?" He asked,
"Yeah, what of it?" Yugo answered, the others nodding as well,
"I think you four should have these. Take one each." Declan held out four cards, and the four boys could swear they heard cries of joy in their heads from their copies of the dragons.
"Before we take them, perhaps we should take one that we don't own the original of. To help bolster our strategies." Yuto suggested,
"A wise idea," Yuri praised, "I'll take Clear Wing then."
"I'll take Dark Rebellion. I mean, I already know how to use it." Yuya said,
"As much as I hate the method, Starving Venom works well with my deck. I will need a copy of Polymerization as well." Yuto nodded,
"Oi! And what does that make me?" Yugo asked, "Chopped liver? Odd-Eyes doesn't synergise with my deck at all!"
"I'm sure I can work something out for you, Yugo." Declan informed the Turbo Duelist, although he didn't look convinced, but he relented. Declan then gave the boys the dragons they'd claimed along with the necessary spell for Yuto, and walked away. "T-Minus five minutes, everyone!" Yusho announced, and Yuri headed up to the front, getting into position while everyone started to get ready to put their hands in the loose rope that would be serving as 'binds' while they were acting as prisoners. Those five minutes went by rather quickly for most people, and they were now all in position, hands tied behind their backs, Yuri acting like he'd never defected and Yusho slightly impressed by the Fusion boy's acting ability.
Leading the group up to the preparing to depart ship, one of the workers noticed the relatively large group, a somewhat familiar man at the helm. "Who are you and what are you doing?" The worker called out,
"Oh, wow, someone who doesn't recognise little old me? Perhaps you'll feel honoured when the Professor imprisons you for insolence." Yuri drawled, his mask startlingly accurate to the now-discarded persona he held,
"L-Lord Yuri?! Forgive me, I couldn't be certain! To what do I own the honour?" The worker, who seemed to be rather high in the hierarchy of the ship's crew, asked,
"I need to transport these prisoners. Unfortunately, my duel disk was damaged beyond repair, so I haven't been able to imprison them. I was hoping you'd allow me to ferry these high value targets to the Professor on your vessel?"
"C-Certainly, milord. It would be my honour!"
"Good. Now, please, let us pass." The worker moved out of the way, and they settled in. What no one not involved in the plan noticed was Celina and Lulu slipping away from the group towards the technical centre of the vessel. As they walked along the ship, they recalled what Yuri had told them.
"Now, someone will need to disable the radio. They'll likely try to confirm with the Professor that I am expected, and that would blow our cover. Two of us will need to go to the communications centre, where their radio will be. They'll need to sabotage it, but not in a way that is obvious. For example, removing a few wires that are essential to its function. So long as their transponder still works, the arrival of the ship shouldn't draw too much attention." Yuri had informed them, which was what Lulu and Celina were on their way to do. Opening a door, they saw that the centre was somehow empty, and they got to work. Igniting her duel disk blade, Celina pulled open a hatch and slashed the wires inside, applying some electrical tape to the ends of the wires so that they didn't ignite the boat, while Lulu did similar on a separate console. Carefully slipping back to the group, they gave the signal that they'd been successful, and now they had to wait.
The trip wasn't as long as some of them had been expecting, but Yuri kept his ever-vigil post as the supposed triple agent, and he called out when Duel Academy Island came within sight. "If you foolish prisoners would look out to the horizon, you will see the great and glorious Academy! The last sight you'll ever see!" He laughed, and some of Yusho's students were having doubts that Yuri wasn't actually a Duel Academy spy with how easily he was performing. When they made landfall, they were greeted by a small force of Duel Soldiers, all with duel disks at the ready.
"Vessel FD-7254, please present your manifest. You have failed to transmit it during transportation, and as such you are required to give it to us or face the consequences." The leader announced,
"It's fine. No such manifest is necessary." Yuri said, approaching the edge and making himself visible,
"So the traitor returns and attempts to pass himself off? Damn, we're really lucky that the Professor predicted something like this!" The leader announced,
"Very well. It's time for plan B!" Yuri called and a screech was heard on the horizon,
"RAIDRAPTOR – REVOLUTION FALCON! LAY SIEGE!" Shay yelled, and his bird opened up its missile ports, and dropped the bombs.
"Watch out!" Duel Academy's soldiers scrambled to get out of the way, but they were quickly corralled by Shay's bird army,
"You think you can get away with what you've done to my homeland? AHAHAHA! You must truly be foolish. There is currently my Satellite Cannon Falcon aiming right where you stand. So much as move an inch and trust me when I say you'll wish there was something for your families to bury!" Shay's malice was clear, and the Yusho duelists were surprised by just how much the Raidraptor duelist hated Duel Academy,
"Alright, let's move out." Declan said,
"Uh, now might not be the time to tell you this, but I can't find Ren." Izumi suddenly said,
"What?! How did he escape? Rgh. This is annoying, but not unthought of. Be extremely cautious." Declan responded.
The invaders moved out from the port, carefully avoiding the new craters where Shay's falcon had dropped its ordinance, and the screech of a bird followed by more explosions told them that Shay had currently set his falcon on the North-East Quadrant of the Academy. "Don't bother dueling" had been their instructions, and some members of their force took that with relish. Before the first hour was up, countless violations of duelist conduct had occurred and many Duel Soldiers lay on the floor, some groaning, some not and some laying in pools of blood from broken noses. They'd managed to make their way into the Academy proper, and while the rooms were closed off, the explosions of Shay's bombs could still be heard. Under instructions to take out as many people as they could, then meet out the front of the Professor's throne room and take him down together. Finding and subduing Ren had also been added onto that, but instructions were to not engage him alone.
Yuto rounded another bend, his arms flying as they caught more soldiers, knocking them unconscious, but he was stopped when he heard the unmistakable sound of someone's voice whom he thought long irrelevant.
"You just had to come on waffle day, did you?" The sickly-sweet voice of Sora rang out,
"Sora, stand down." Yuto said to the blue-haired boy,
"I'm afraid I shan't. Duel me, and we'll see!" Sora activated his duel disk, and beneath his Cheshire grin, Yuto could see the sparkle of one of his signature lollypops.
"Fine, but don't be surprised when you lose!" Yuto announced,
"Let's Duel!"
Sora: 4000 LP
Yuto: 4000 LP
Turn 1: Sora
"Allow me to go first, ok? I will activate the spell card Toy Vendor! This allows me to discard Fluffal Wings to draw one card, then, I must reveal it! Fluffal Penguin is the card I drew, so I shall special summon it! Penguin's effect allows me to summon Fluffal Mouse, who's effect calls two more copies to my field! Now, what would be this field with out some fright? I activate Polymerization to fuse the Penguin on my field with the Edge Imp Chain in my hand! Fluffy penguin and demonic chain become as one! I Fusion Summon! Frightfur Kraken! Then, I activate Penguin and Chain's effects, adding Frightfur Fusion to my hand, and drawing two, so long as I discard Fluffal Leo.
"Next, I activate Frightfur Fusion! I banish the Chain in my graveyard, along with two Mice! Adorable mouse be corrupted by powers beyond darkness! I Fusion Summon! Frightfur Wolf! Next, I activate Frightfur Patchwork, adding Edge Imp Sabres and Polymerization to my hand! I activate Polymerization! I fuse my remaining Mouse with my Sabres! Mouse with wings, be sheared and descend! I Fusion Summon! Frightfur Cruel Whale! Then, Fluffal Wings' effect activates from my graveyard! I banish it and a Mouse to draw one, then, I send Toy Vendor to the grave to draw another. And what would you know? This allows me to activate Toy Vendor's next effect! I can add a Fluffal Owl to my hand! I now set one card and end my turn!"
Frightfur Kraken: Level 8, 3000 DEF
Frightfur Wolf: Level 6, 2000 ATK
Frightfur Cruel Whale: Level 9, 2600 ATK
Turn 2: Yuto
"An impressive turn!" Yuto praised before steeling himself, "But it won't be that easy! I set two cards, but then, since I have no trap cards in my graveyard, I can activate two copies of The Phantom Knights of Shade Brigandine which summon themselves as level four normal monsters. Next, I summon The Phantom Knights of Ancient Cloak, and summon Silent Boots by its own effect. The next move is simple. I overlay my two level four Shades! Cloaked in shadow and relentless in its objective, I call upon the most dangerous of dragons! I Xyz Summon! Rise up, Rank 4, Dark Rebellion Xyz Dragon!" As Yuto summoned his dragon, Sora laughed,
"You foolish Xyzian! Such a puny summoning method is how we annihilated your home!" The blue-haired child seemed hysterical, which only edged Yuto on,
"But that's not all. Next, I activate a spell card! The Phantom Knights Rank-Up-Magic Launch! I can now rebuild the overlay network using Dark Rebellion! Dragon of electric energy, I beseech thee! Bring your fatal voltage to me and annihilate our enemies! Rank-Up-Xyz Evolution! I Xyz Summon, Rank 5, Arc Rebellion Xyz Dragon!" Blue lightning crackled as Yuto's new monster appeared,
"So what? I'll just beat you on my turn!" Sora declared,
"Oh will you? I could win right now, but what about that face-down? I'll have to deal with that. I overlay level 3 Ancient Cloak and Silent Boots! The souls of the fallen rise to fight again! I Xyz Summon, Rank 3, The Phantom Knights of Break Sword! Break Sword's effect then destroys itself and your face-down. Then I shall summon its materials back, should you not mind of course," Yuto taunted, "Next, I'll be playing a surprise! A spell you should be more than familiar with, considering you activated it twice in your turn."
"What? No! Xyzian scum like you shouldn't use such a pristine method!" Sora cried out realising what Yuto meant,
"That's right. I have my reservations about this, but I activate the spell card Polymerization!" Yuto's eyes flashed an electric purple as the spell card hit his duel disk, "With this spell, I fuse together the Ancient Cloak and Silent Boots on my field! Dragon with toxic venom, see the light and come to the right side! I Fusion Summon!"
"No! Why would he give you that dragon!" Sora was panicking,
"STARVING VENOM FUSION DRAGON!" Yuto called, and the venomous dragon appeared, "Next, I activate Arc Rebellion's effect. I detach one material for it to gain the attack points of each and every monster except itself, and then, because Dark Rebellion is still a material, it negates all the other effects on the field, but Arc is the only monster I have that can attack this turn. ARC NEGATION CHARGE!"
"What?! WHY?! WHAT DID I DO?!" Sora's eyes were fearful as Yuto's dragon powered up.
Starving Venom Fusion Dragon: Level 8, 2800 ATK
Arc Rebellion Xyz Dragon: Rank 5, 3000 ATK - 12,400 ATK, 4 ORU - 3 ORU
"You made the wrong choice that's what! One last chance to surrender, Sora."
"Never!"
"Very well. You brought this upon yourself. Arc Rebellion! Attack Frightfur Wolf and end this duel! Treason's Final Discharge!" Blue lightning engulfed the room as Sora was encased in it and he let out a scream at the pain.
Sora: 4000 LP - 0 LP
Yuto WINS!
"I'm sorry, Sora." Yuto said as he moved past the now unconscious child.
Elsewhere
Yuya entered a strange room. There were no lights and he could hear an electrical hum. Looking around, he couldn't see anything, but then a creepy voice rang out,
"Ah, the Sakaki boy. Oh, how I've waited to see you!" The lights came on to reveal that Yuya was standing in a lab of some kind, and a demented looking man stood in front of him.
"Who are you?" Yuya asked,
"Why, I'm the Doktor! The Professor's right-hand-man! And I see you've found my lab. Such a shame that your friends escaped before I could enact the plan that the Professor had."
"What plan?"
"Only a way to force obedience of course. The Professor wouldn't want his VIPs escaping would he?"
"WHAT?! Force obedience? Are you aware of how insane that is?" Yuya exclaimed,
"Insane? Oh, you wound me, dear child. Allow me to show you the pinnacle of evolution!" Suddenly, the space in front of the Doktor lit up, revealing it to be a duel stage.
"Let's duel!"
Next Chapter Preview: Yuya duels the Doktor and finds out more about this plan of the Professor's.
Hey all, thank you so much for reading this chapter! I hope you all enjoyed, and that the duel was well written enough! I had Yuto duel Sora here partially because I thought it would be good, especially seeing as Yuto and Sora didn't really get closure in the series proper, what with Yuya interrupting the duel and all. Anyways, to reviews!
Aqua – How I'd summarise Yuri's plan after this chapter: "The risks were calculated but boy am I bad at math!" lol. But yeah, with Ren he's still going through the wringer and one event this chapter helps set up a future one. I am also looking forward to writing Izumi and Ren's reunion, as that will just be a big sappy mess as far as I can currently tell.
BlaiseCandell (Guest) – Thank you so much for your review, but to answer your question, Izumi and Ren have a platonic relationship as I see it. Sure they may tease each other in flirty manners, but they are just really close childhood friends. In Chapter 23 I answered a similar question, and I think there may be more info there!
Thank you all for reading again, and I'll see you all next week for Yuya vs The Doktor! - NightWingBOI
