Keefe POV
Keefe whipped around, shoving Sophie behind him and whipping out his dagger. He tried so hard to keep the blade steady, but there was still a slight tremble in his hand. His gaze was ice cold though, he knew he wouldn't hesitate to protect Sophie. Even if it meant…. No, he wouldn't think about that. If it got to the point where it was Sophie or his mother, his mum would have to go.
"Aren't you happy to see me son?" Gisela asked calmly, her calculating eyes sizing Keefe up.
Keefe, distract her. Stall however you can. Keefe almost had a heart attack as Sophie's soft voice whispered across his mind. He gave her a subtle nod, knowing she would come up with a plan.
"Not really. You kind of interrupted us." He smirked and gestured to himself and Sophie with the dagger, and Gisela laughed as Sophie blushed.
"You have a lot to learn Keefe, that's why I'm giving you one last chance to come and join me. Together we could achieve greatness!" Her eyes shone, imagining the "utopia" she envisioned.
"I won't ever join someone like you. Even with years of planning, you can't even beat a bunch of high school kids." Keefe winked at Sophie, but she didn't seem to notice, too buried in her thoughts to notice him.
"I thought you would say that Keefe, you're too loyal to your friends, particularly Sophie." This part came with an eyebrow raise. "But that's okay, I'm not here for you, however it is an unexpected opportunity to test some things out."
"Wha-?" Keefe started to ask, but he was interrupted by a blood curdling scream.
He turned his head around so fast, it almost broke. He threw his dagger, which turned out to be a bad decision as Gisela caught it effortlessly with her telekinesis.
"If you move one more step…" Lady Gisela let her threat hang in the air, knowing Keefe wouldn't take any risks.
He let out a soft whimper. In front of him, a horror scene was set out, straight from his worst nightmares. There was Sophie, his beautiful, kind Sophie, held at knife point. The betrayal coming from her said it all, this was no joke. Then he recognised the elf holding the knife to her throat.
"Biana? WHAT THE HELL'S WRONG WITH YOU?!" Biana remained still, her knife unwavering and her stare blank. Keefe ran at them, but a force field glowed into action, separating Keefe from Sophie and Biana.
Gisela let out an exasperated sigh. "What did I say Keefe? No moving." Keefe stopped in his tracks, not even daring to breathe. "Lucky for you, I'll let you off with a warning for now. But keep in mind, there are no second chances after this." Keefe looked up at Sophie and Biana and saw that his mum had told the truth. Sophie was still okay. For now. He had to think of something, and fast.
For the first time, he noticed that next to them stood two figures. The Neverseen's new psionpath, he had heard all about the blonde elf and her crazy skills, and someone Keefe had never seen before. He had handsome features, just like any other elf, but he had a wild, rugged look about them. The look someone had after they had been on the run for a while, Keefe would know. The elf's face was twisted in concentration, but Keefe couldn't figure out what he was doing.
KEEFE! He kept his face blank, not wanting to compromise Sophie's safety any more than he already had by giving it away that Sophie was communicating with him. Keefe listen to me, it's not Biana's fault. She's being controlled. The man next to me is a Mesmer like Grady is, and he's making her do this. She's also injured. I don't think you can see it from where you are, but she's losing blood quick. She needs help. When I break the psionpath's concentration, you to grab Biana and leap away. I'll stall her until you get back with help. I promise I'll be okay, but I need to know you and Biana are safe. No arguing, that's the plan and you are going to stick to it.
"You're a bit quiet over there. Finally understanding the gravity of the situation you're in Keefe?" Gisela smiled a sick smile, confident in the position she had them in. Keefe was pale. He knew he should trust Sophie, because she always managed to save the day. She was the moonlark after all. But this time, Keefe had no idea how she was going to get everyone out of this alive.
