PMD: The Starlit Forest

Oracion Historia I:

There was once a young girl who dreamed of seeing a comet. An eevee of five years, she lay awake all night staring at the stars through her bedroom window, or so she tried, as her father would shut her curtains at the moon's highest hour and demand she rest.

"It'll be hard to make friends if you're always tired," she'd been warned, but the eevee was wise to her father's tricks. Once she saw a comet up close, she'd have all the time in the world to make friends. Why worry about it now? she thought.

And so, while other kits wrestled and played in the spring fields and meadows, the eevee studied hard, reading of stars and planets, of asteroids and gravity, of dust clouds and novae, and of all the things that made space mysterious. She became fascinated with it all, but nothing drew her quite as well as the ice trails of comets.

"Do you think it would be cold if I touched one?" she asked her father one day, the warm climate of their village making her shiver at the thought.

Knowing little of the space his daughter had grown so fond of, he offered little more than a coat and a gentle laugh in response. "If it is, make sure to cover up." Starstruck by rumors of fallen stars, the eevee lay awake at night until the words of her father ushered her into a gentle dream. One of a crater atop her village's highest slope.

The crater was unsafe, and so all gathered round to sing their praises for the beauty of the jewel at its center. A perfect, crystal comet. The eevee watched intently as one by one, cracks began to appear in its beautiful surface. Light began to pour from it, giving the jewel its first chance at sight. Then with one final crack, light cut through the night's darkness, and the jewel separated into fragments too numerous to count.

Author's Note:

Not sure if I'll continue to do these notes at the beginning and end, but just as an introduction to what this is. I decided to write a short, experimental piece for the opening of this rewrite to Team Eviolite. It centers mostly around an in-universe, thematic fairy tale based loosely on an important plot point for later in the series. I have made some progress into the next chapter of both this and Imagine, but as I am currently working on editing my novel, I have no idea when that update will be. Thanks for reading!
