Welcome to my first fic, I am new at this and English is not my first language so expect grammatical errors.
With that being said, some clarifications. The OC is based on the character of a series of books, but she just shared the name and looks, nothing more.
The graduation age of the academy is sixteen so the characters have the appearance of Shippuden.
There will be crossovers of other manga and manhwas but not characters, just abilities.
With all the clarifications said, I hope you enjoy my first fic
Enjoy.
Disclaimer: I own nothing.
Civilian Sensei: Chapter 01
It was a good day in the Hidden Leaf Village, the sun illuminating the houses and buildings. The streets were full of people walking or talking among themself. Everybody seemed to be having a good day, except for one individual. A young man who seemed deep in thought.
His was Uzumaki Naruto, a fifteen-year-old male with blond hair, blue eyes and very distinctive whiskers, three in each cheek. He wore a black and orange jacket, orange pants, and black sandals.
He was walking down the street with a scowl on his face. He failed for the second time in the exam to become a ninja.
'Stupid Iruka-sensei, stupid clone jutsu, and stupid exam.' he complained.
He couldn't understand why he couldn't use the technique, he had followed the instructions exactly like the instructors in the academy had taught him and his clones still looked dead.
'Maybe I have to use more chakra?' He thought.
As the blonde walked, he noticed that the villagers were looking at him with the same eyes as ever. Eyes filled with mocking and hatred. Naruto could even hear them whispering.
"Look, it is him."
"The demon boy."
"I hear that he failed the exam to become a ninja."
"Thank gods."
"Can you imagine if he turned into one?"
"He could gain the power to destroy us all!"
While it was pretty common for him to listen to this, it still hurts to hear it.
Becoming a shinobi was the first step to becoming the Hokage and finally gaining the respect of everybody in the village and stopping being alone.
But it was not meant to be and he has to spend another year in the academy.
If at least he has friends it could be more bearable but he wasn't very popular in the academy. The civilian kids hated him and treated him badly. Always insulting and mocking him. He could understand that some of them would not like him, he had pranked some of them and painted some of their parent's shops, but still, it was not just a few but all the civilians who hated him.
The clan kids weren't that bad, he even got along well with some of them, but not enough to call them 'friends'. Yeah, sometimes he spent time with some of them, but at the end of the day, they just left to go home without really interacting with him. They never ask him how he is doing, to meet outside school, or to go eat ramen with him. They just see him as the class clown. Not that his behavior inside the school helped. He was always yelling or doing pranks but the attention he gained was better than the one he usually gets.
'And to top it all, I have to buy more kunais and shurikens because my last set broke during the throwing test,' He complained.
He didn't know where he was going to buy them because most shops didn't sell him. Or they sell him weapons in bad shape at an exorbitant price. To buy his last set, he had to stop going to Ichiraku for a month! And that just wasn't going to happen again.
As he was thinking this, he came across a shop that he hadn't seen before. It was a weapon shop with various types of weapons in the exhibition. In big words, one can see the name, Legacy.
He pondered if he should enter. After all, his day has been pretty bad so far and he had no desire to make it worse. And an asshole shouting in his face, telling him to get out, could do exactly that.
But he decided to enter and try to get the gear he needed. And if this didn't work, he could always sneak into the training grounds and grab some of the leftover weapons. Not the best way to procure what he needed, after all those weapons were not usually in good condition, but it was better than nothing.
He opened the door and saw an empty, medium-sized shop, full of weapons, clothes and different types of equipment meant for ninjas. From kunais, knives and swords to mesh armor and combat boots.
He had never seen so much variety of tools in all his life. And looking at the prices, he saw that they were very decent. Not too low but not too expensive either.
This shop should be swarming with clients, but it was empty. He checked his watch and saw that it was still early. He didn't understand why there was no one here.
While he was thinking this he heard a voice behind the counter.
"Hello child, what can I help you with?" a feminine voice said.
He set his eyes on this person and he froze. In front of him was the most beautiful woman he had ever seen in his life.
In her twenties, with 180 cm, black hair that reached down to her mid-back and a pair of bangs that framed a beautiful, aristocratic face, with high cheekbones, luscious red lip, a small nose, pale skin and an athletic build, she was stunning. She wore a black letter jacket, under that a white and black striped shirt, blue jeans and combat boots. But her most prominent features were his eyes. Unlike normal eyes, they were a silver shimmer color. Almost like Mercury. There were no other words for it. He had never seen eyes like hers.
But what caught his attention was the way she looked at him. There wasn't hate, anger, or annoyance in her gaze. Just boredom and a little curiosity. Like she was looking at any other client.
He didn't expect this. Normally, when he entered a shop, the employees looked and treated him like they wanted him to get out as soon as possible. That was if they didn't throw him out as soon as he set foot inside. But she didn't. She spoke to him with kind words and a normal gaze.
"Maybe she doesn't recognize me?" he wondered. Anyway, perhaps this time he could buy his things without the usual, bad treatment. Those were his thoughts, until he heard her voice.
"Hey child, I'm not a clown for you to stare at me. Either tell me what you need from me or get out," she rudely said to him.
He blushed when he realized that he had been looking at her in silence. He approached the counter and said.
"Hello, I am looking for a set of twenty kunais and shurikens, please," he said.
She looked for a pack of kunais below the counter.
"Okay, anything else?" she asked, putting his order in front of him.
"No, thank you," he responded, "How much does it cost?", he asked.
"It would be 60,000 yen," she responded.
"Really?" he asked, surprised.
"Yeah child, you can do the math yourself if you don't believe me," she said, a little annoyed at him.
"No, no. It is not that, it is just… people generally overprice me so I thought that you would be the same," he spoke sadly, " but not you, so thank you." he said to her smiling.
She stayed looking at him and said. "Why would they overprice you?" she questioned him.
"I don't know, they just do," he said. "But it is okay, one day I am gonna become Hokage, and all the village would have to respect and recognize me," he proclaimed loudly.
She kept looking at him and, all of a sudden, she started laughing.
"HAHAHAHA!" she said loudly.
"Hey, why are you laughing at me?" he yelled angrily and a little red because she looked even more pretty when she laughed.
"I am sorry, it is just, I just recognize you," she said, trying to catch her breath. "You are that dumb kid that runs all over the village, pulling pranks and yelling like an idiot saying that he is gonna become Hokage," she said more calmly.
"Hey, who are you calling dumb and idiot, dattebayo? One day I will become Hokage, despite what you and everybody say," he said, very pissed.
"I am not saying that you can achieve that, I am saying that you won't make it while you waste time pulling pranks," she said to him. "You should use that time to train and study."
He opened his eyes wide at the words she said. " You believe that I could do it?" he asked startled.
"Sure, why couldn't you?" she responded, shruging her shoulders. "If you have enough will and courage, you could achieve anything you desire," she said.
He kept listening to her, surprised and happy at her words. Nobody has ever said that to him. Most people laughed at his dream, saying that it was impossible for him to accomplish it. Even Iruka-sensei never said that, he just listened to him and changed the subject, like he didn't believe that he could do it. But this woman, this complete stranger, did.
With a big smile, he said. "Thank you, thank you very much, miss…?"
She looked at him carefully and after a moment of silence, she said. "Braith child," she said softly. "My name is Braith"
"What a strange name," he said quietly. Never had he heard a name like that.
"Maybe she is a foreigner?" he said to himself.
"Anyway, I am Uzumaki Naruto, nice to meet you Braith-san," he said.
"Likewise," she said, smiling, "and the one with a strange name is you.
Who would want to be called fishcake?" she said daringly.
"It is not fishcake," he yelled. "It means maelstrom!"
"Sure, sure," she said, sarcastically.
"Hey, I meant it," he wailed.
"I believe you," she said in the same tone of voice.
He crossed his arms in his chest and sulked.
She sees this and chuckles a little "I was just joking," she said. "No need to pout."
"I am not pouting," he responded.
"You so were," she said, still amused. "Anyway, tell me Uzumaki-san, why were you looking for kunais and shurikens? Usually, the students of the academy buy them more in the middle of the year when the practical lessons start, " she questioned him.
Upon hearing his question, Naruto gets depressed. He feels that if he answers her, she will likely see him as the death-last, just like everybody else does.
Trying to deflect, he smiled and said "No reason, I was just thinking that if the weapons were too expensive then I wouldn't be able to buy ramen, dattebayo".
She gave him a stern look and said. "Look child, if you don't want to tell me, that is fine, but don't lie to me in my own shop," she seriously told him.
He gulped at hearing this, suddenly feeling scared.
"Besides, sharing your problems with someone else usually helps. Who knows, maybe I will be able to assist you," she added, shrugging.
He stared at her, shocked. People didn't usually offer to help him, generally, they acted like he didn't exist. He took a deep breath and answered her.
"I took the exam to graduate early but I failed for the second time," he says depressed.
"Really? What do the tests consist of?" she asked curiously.
"It is a theoretical-practical test that consists of a written test, a throwing test, and three Jutsus, the Henge no Jutsu, the Bushin no Jutsu, and the Kawarimi no Jutsu," he explained. "I could pass the first two tests, albeit barely, and I can use the Kawarimi no Jutsu and the Henge no Jutsu but I can not do the damn Bushin!" he complained. "I do everything right but the clones still look dead!"
"Well, obviously," she said, looking at him like he was an idiot. "It would be impossible for you to do a clone, with you being an Uzumaki and having enormous chakra reserves."
He looked at her, not understanding what she was saying "What do you mean with 'being an Uzumaki'? That is just the name they give me in the orphanage" he said. "Isn't it?"
She looked at him in silence for a moment, before closing her eyes and saying. "I see." She said to him. "You don't know anything about your family," opening her eyes, she claimed. "Not even about your mother."
He froze at her words, not expecting that. "Wha?"
For years, he had wondered who his parents were, where they were, if they were good people… if they loved him. When he asked his Oji-san, he said he didn't know. And that even if he found their identity, they were probably dead, and that Naruto would still be in the same situation, with questions that he would probably never get answered.
So he has tried to stop thinking about them, putting them in the back of his mind. At first, it was hard, especially at the end of the day in the academy, when the parents came to pick up their children. But as time passed, he stopped doing it. He distracts himself with other activities, like pranking or training. It still hurts seeing other kids with their parents but he learned to bear with it.
But now, this lady said she knew who they were. He may finally get the answer he has sought.
"You… YOU KNOW MY PARENTS?" he yelled. "WHO ARE THEY? ARE THEY ALIVE? DO THEY KNOW ABOUT ME?" 'Did they love me?'.
"Calm down" she calmly answered him. "There is no need to yell. Yes, I know their identities and I will answer your question but first, take a deep breath."
Trying to calm himself, he closed his eyes and did as she suggested. After a few moments, he managed to calm down.
Rubbing the back of his head he apologized. "Sorry, it is just… I have always wanted to know who they were and I just... I overreact."
Looking him in the eyes, she said. "It's okay, I understand. Now, how about you and I go across the street to buy some coffee and chat for a while?" she asked.
"Um, sure but I don't think they would let me enter," he said ashamed.
Leaving the counter, she smiled, "Don't worry, they will if you are with me".
Closing her shop, the two walked to the coffee shop and entered. Once inside, Naruto noticed that all the chat in the shop suddenly died out. He saw that the clients and staff looked at them. He received the usual look of hatred, but he was surprised to notice how they looked at her companion.
They looked at her with caution or even fear, like she was a dangerous tiger and they didn't know how to act in front of her. Even the ninjas who were in attendance.
They picked a table next to a window and waited for the waiter to take their orders.
A few seconds later, a waitress came to serve them.
"Good evening, what can I do for you two?" she said nervously.
"I would like a Cappuccino," said Braith smiling. "And you Naru?" she asked, looking at him.
"I um, I don't know what to order," he said bashfully. "I never have drank coffee."
"It is okay. We would have two Cappuccinos, thank you," Braith said to the waitress.
"Okay, coming right up," she said, turning around to leave.
"Oh, and sweetheart?" Braith said to the waitress, still smiling. "If my friend here doesn't get exactly what he asks for, you won't like the consequences," she said threateningly.
"Ye-yes ma'am," the waitress said, feeling cold fear all of a sudden.
Once the employee left, they waited patiently for their orders.
Naruto kept looking at Braith, wondering why the waitress acted like that.
'Perhaps she owns this shop too?' he said to himself.
Soon after, their orders came.
"En-enjoy your orders," the waitress said, stuttering.
"Thank you," the two customers said. Having done her job, the waitress took her leave.
Having tested her Cappuccinos and finding them satisfying, she spoke.
"Well Uzumaki-kun, I understand that you have a couple of questions for me," Braith said.
"Yes, I-I would like for you to tell me everything you know about my parents," he said anxiously.
"I see, but before I tell you anything," she said, crossing her fingers in front of her face. "You would answer some of my questions, okay Uzumaki-kun?" she asked.
"Oh, okay, no problem, and please call me Naruto," he said more calmly, "I am not one for formalities."
"As you wish. Now please, answer me this," she said. "Why do you want to be a ninja? And please be honest."
Naruto was surprised, not expecting that question. No one has ever asked him that. He thought of saying that he did it to protect the village and its inhabitants but she had been kind to him, so he decided to be honest.
Scratching his cheek, he shyly answered. "When I was six years old, I was kicked out of the orphanage where I live. And while it wasn't the best place to live, I still have a roof over my head and a bed where to sleep. So, at first, I was terrified, not knowing what to do," he said, a little depressed at remembering those days. The matron was an evil bitch who always insulted him and starved him and the kids living with him weren't much better.
They always call him a demon or other mean names and even beat him once in a while. But still, that was his home for his first years of life. "So for the first few days, I wandered the streets, looking for something to eat. I mostly pick up leftovers from the dumpster or other disgusting things," he said. "But eventually I found a river where I could catch some fishes. While I was cooking them, an old man came out of nowhere and asked if he could share the fire with me."
He smiled remenbering this. That was the first time that he met his Jiji.
"While we were eating the fishes, we talked to each other, well he did most of the talking. He dazzled me with stories of ninjas saving princesses, defeating villains, and liberating countries. It was incredible. And the more he talked, the more I wanted to be like the heroes he spoke about. He said that I should take the night to think about the things he told me about and that tomorrow go to the Hokage tower, the biggest building in the whole town he said, to discuss my future."
He turned his eyes toward the window. From where they were sitting, he could see the Hokage tower.
"I spend the entire night thinking about what the old men said. How the characters in his stories were strong enough to overcome any difficulties and get the respect of everyone around them. I thought about my life so far and I realized that if I wanted to live a better life, where no one would hurt me for no reason, where no one would look at me with hate in his eyes, where I could get their respect, then I have to become strong, strong enough to protect myself and everybody else. If I accomplish that, then one day I will have friends and maybe a family. And the better way to accomplish all that is by becoming a ninja," he finished his story, his eyes glued to the table.
"I don't do it for the goodness of my heart, but for selfish reasons. I just want to live a full life, surrounded by people who really want to be with me," he said with a sad smile. "Although I am in my last year at the academy and I still don't have many people who wish to spend time with me," he said, putting his arms behind his head and laughing.
Braith listened silently to his story and said. "Naruto, look at me," she ordered him.
Naruto locked his eyes on hers and listened to her words.
"You do realize that once you become a ninja you would have to defend this village and its inhabitants? All his inhabitants, including those that mistreated you?"
"Yes, I know that."
"And you think you can do it?" She asks carefully.
He remained silent for a moment and then answered her "Yes, I think I can" he said. "Because, even if they don't like me today, they may become my friends in the future and I would do everything to protect them." he finished unquestionably.
She kept looking into his eyes, like searching for any lies, and all of a sudden she smiled brightly.
"I believe you," she said, "And I hope that you can keep that determination as your life goes by."
He returned her smile, happy at her words.
"Thank you, I will," he said. "Anyway, what does any of this have to do with the identity of my parents?" He questioned her.
"Hahaha," she laughed. "A dog with a bone eh?" She said. "I ask those questions because your parents were ninjas and I wanted to know if you carried the will of fire inside you, just like they had."
"They were ninjas?" he asked happily. At last, he was getting information about them.
"Yes, they were and I will respond to your question, but not today," she said standing up.
"Eh, why?" He asked, also standing up.
She kept talking as they were leaving the shop, "Because it is late, you have academy tomorrow, and you need to rest, but don't worry," she reassured him. "Come to my shop after school tomorrow and I will tell you about them," she told him, already in front of her shop.
"Aww, but I want to know now," Naruto whined about it.
"Naruto," she said with a stern voice. "Do as I say and you will get your answers," she told him.
"Okay," he says depressed.
"Good boy," She said. "And who knows, I may be able to help you with your training."
"Really?" he excitedly asked.
"Yes, now go," she said smiling.
"Okay, see you tomorrow Braith-neesan," He said as he said goodbye.
She was surprised to hear him say that, but she stood still, watching him leave.
'Training the jinchuriki eh,' Braith thought. 'Well, I better go to talk with Saru,' she concluded as she began to walk to the Hokage tower.
And that is the first chapter, hope you like it.
