¡Hola! whoever's reading this. This is going to be pretty much the first ever fanfiction I've written in some time so I hope you all can be patient with me. Pokémon as a series means a lot to me, so I hope I can do it justice!

As for why I chose to tackle the story of Scarlet over any other games in the series, well, it's the game I've been playing the most recently; call it recency bias I guess...

Well, with that being said, I hope you guys enjoy Pokémon Scarlet: Serenidad!

Chapter 1: Welcome to Paldea

There comes a time in life when a child must grow into an adult. Moving past a sheltered lifestyle at home to truly make something with their life.

For fourteen-year-old Juliana, that time was now.

There she was, sitting in her cozy little room right next to her desk, flipping endlessly through the school pamphlet she had received almost immediately after moving into town. A gentle cascade of sunlight streamed through the open window, shining upon her.

It was about 8 Am, usually, she liked to sleep through the morning, but it was a very important day for her. A day that little she knew would change her life forever.

She had gotten up bright and early at about 6:30 to get extra-prepared for today. The night before, she wasn't able to get much sleep as all she had on her mind was how today would go.

Feeling it was about time, Juliana got up from her seat stretching her arms along with a yawn. Right afterwards she walked towards the edge of her room to see how she looked, after all, she needed to look perfect for today.

She must've looked at her reflection for a minute or two, the uniform she was wearing actually looked pretty cute or so she thought. She was wearing an outfit consisting of a white polo shirt with an emblem on the left shoulder, as well as an orange medium-length tie, orange shorts with vertical stripes and pockets, white high socks and a pair of black running shoes.

Her hair: she had styled into a side braid with a cowlick off center of her fringe, with a cute red and white hair clip at the end of the braid.

Juliana couldn't help but smile, thankfully she didn't look at all tacky like how she feared. She thought to herself, I look pretty good if I do say so myself, who would've thought this school uniform stuff could actually be kind of stylish?

After about another minute or so of looking at herself from different poses, she felt she was finally ready for her day to start.

Walking through her bedroom door she went downstairs into her living room where her mother was cooking some eggs off the stove. Still not having heard her daughter who walked up behind her.

"Buenos días, mamá ." Juliana said, looking past her mom to the scrumptious-looking eggs her mother had just set on the counter.

Mom turned her back to her beautifully dressed daughter and gave a bright smile. "Wow, look at you up so early!" She said walking over to her daughter giving her a nice big hug which was returned. She let go of her embrace to take in the sight of Juliana's clothes. "See, didn't I tell you you'd look good with that outfit on!"

"I'm glad you think so, mamá. You know, I know I've already said it a million times by now, but I'm really excited for today." Juliana said as she waddled over to the fridge grabbing a carton of milk. "Those eggs for me by the way?" She asked.

"Well, they're not for Skwovet." Mom replied with a joke, her hands on her hips.

But it seemed like just the mere mention of his name was all it took for the rodent Pokémon to reveal himself. Coming out from underneath the table came their house Pokémon, Skwovet. A squirrel-like Pokémon. Grayish and brown in color, with a nice, large fluffy tail that was a dark-grayish brown at the top. The Pokémon's body was quite stumpy, with a light-grayish-brown underbelly and bodacious cheeks.

"Vet, Skwovet!" The little guy squeaked before jumping straight for Juliana, who was drinking milk from the carton right when the Cheeky Pokémon planted his feet and front paws firmly on her left shoulder.

Juliana gave a warm smile, lowering the drink from her lips. "And buenos días to you too, buddy. So it's underneath the kitchen table you sneak off to at night." Juliana said as Skwovet began to lovingly brush his cheek against hers. "Stop it, that tickles!" The girl laughed alongside the Pokémon.

Mom watched with a smile before she remembered what was important, she tapped her fingers at the kitchen table getting her daughter's attention. "You should eat now. I didn't get the chance to tell you yesterday, but your school messaged me last night, they said they'd be coming around this time to drop something off for you."

Juliana sat at the kitchen table intrigued by whatever her mom meant. Skwovet still on her shoulder, just as interested. "What do you think they were referring to?" She asked grabbing her fork and cutting into her omelette.

"Honestly dear, I really can't say... maybe?" Mom began before they were both interrupted by the doorbell. Juliana and her mother both looked at each other equally as surprised.

"Woah, that must be...!" Juliana said eagerly getting up from the kitchen table with a glint of excitement in her eye. "Ma, mind if I get it?"

Mom gave an affirming head nod. "I knew they said they'd be here early and all, but I didn't know they'd be this early!"

Juliana sped straight towards the front door with Skwovet on her. With her head held high with anticipation, she opened the door being immediately met with a man she had seen a few times before on magazines and videos.

A man who looked to be in about his mid-to-late fifties, yet at the same time looked far from being a frail old man or anything. On his head, he had what had to have been a white wig, a goatee, and he was sporting a pair of glasses. He wore an orange blazer with white Poké Balls on the pockets, as well as a black shirt, white pants, with white shoes. He held a blue lavish bag in his right hand.

Juliana smiled knowing what him being here meant. Right now, was the beginning of the rest of her life "You're—"

"Juliana Quintanilla, I presume. I am the director of Naranja Academy." The man matter-of-factly spoke at the awestruck Juliana. "You may call me Mr. Clavell. If I'm not an intrusion, may I please come in?"

"Why of course!" Mom answered speaking before her daughter could. Juliana turned towards her mother who walked up right behind her. "It's a pleasure to finally meet you, I believe we spoke over the phone."

Clavell smiled as he stepped inside, raising the bag in his hand towards Mom.

"I believe the pleasure is mine. You see, I am responsible for the entire academy, including any failures on its part... so with me here are the enrollment documents that should have already been delivered to you, ma'am. I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience." Clavell said with Mom reaching over accepting the bag from him.

"Don't be too hard on yourself, Mr. Clavell. All that matters is that you're here." Mom replied trying to give the director some ease. "You really have nothing to apologize for. Since you've come all this way, the least I can do is offer you a cup of tea."

Clavell smiled. "As much as I appreciate the offer, I'd hate to trouble you anymore."

"Trouble me? Nonsense. We can drink and talk." Mom said before turning towards her starstruck daughter who returned her gaze. Skwovet looking up towards her too. "Juliana, why don't you head back to your room and finish getting ready for school? I noticed you're not wearing your hat or backpack."

"Ah, you're right, mamá!" Juliana exclaimed surprised at her own forgetfulness. She turned back towards the staircase and quickly climbed them. At the top she looked over her shoulder downstairs towards the director. "I'll be right back sir! And please try some of mother's tea, it's the best in Paldea!"

"...Well, if you insist." Clavell said as he followed Mom to the couch.

Juliana re-entered her room racing towards her bed. Skwovet jumped off her shoulder perching himself on the open windowsill.

The young girl walked towards her bed where she left the last two items belonging to her school's dress code. A white and blue bucket hat, as well as a black backpack with the school's insignia on it. She placed the bookbag over her back before firmly placing the hat over her head.

"How do I look?" She asked over to the little rodent Pokémon who was now laying on his belly over at the window.

"Skwovet! Vet, Vet!" The Cheeky Pokémon happily cried out seemingly approving.

Juliana smiled. "It's all so much to take in, isn't it? Me, learning all there is to learn about Pokémon at the legendary Naranja Academy, it still doesn't feel real. It feels like we just moved into this town yesterday, and already I'm going to be leaving!" The girl said with happiness bubbling up inside her. She fell backwards with her back planted on her bed causing a slight creek. Just staring at the blank ceiling. "Pretty soon I'm going to be getting my first Pokémon ever, could this day get any better or what!"

Hearing that last part made Skwovet give a peed-off grunt, to which Juliana sat up looking over to him.

"Well, my first-ever Pokémon excluding you of course." She reiterated. "Well, I guess you're more of my mamá's Pokémon since she's the one who technically owns you, but... you know what I mean..."

Juliana got up from her bed. Best to not keep Mom and the director waiting too long or so she thought. She walked out of her room downstairs where the two adults were. Just sitting on the couch, both with a steamy cup of tea in their hands. Upon seeing her, they both got up setting their mugs on some coasters on the nearest table.

"I know I said it earlier, but you look so good in that outfit." Mom said in awe of the Juliana that was standing before her. "I can't believe it, my daughter's going to become a Pokémon Trainer at the most prestigious school in three regions!" She gushed before regaining her composure remembering the director was next to her.

"Yes, the uniform of our storied academy suits you quite well indeed, Ms. Juliana, or do you prefer Ms. Quintanilla?" Clavell asked, calling her by her last name.

"Oh, just Juliana is fine." The girl replied solemnly. Right at that moment however, the director's face tensed up as he had a realization.

"Oh, gracious. How very careless of me." Clavell spoke under his breath before speaking up. "I had entirely forgotten that I've something else for you, Juliana. A most important thing. But your living room is hardly the place for it. Would you care to accompany me outside?"

"Do you even need to ask?" Juliana responded as her and her mother began to follow Clavell outside. Although she didn't come out and say it, Juliana had a pretty good idea as to what the director had in mind. And if her hunch was right, then she was in for a ball.

Standing outside the house, both Juliana and Mom lined up before Clavell who observed their house with his hands behind his back.

"Heavens, it really is an excellent place you both have. This has got to be the most beautiful spot in Cabo Poco, it will make a fitting setting for this next part." Clavell said as Juliana got more and more excited.

"Alright, so, what's this important thing you had forgotten, Mr. Clavell?" Juliana said, trying to sound as if she had no idea what he was about to do right then and there.

Clavell briefly closed his eyes and smiled before revealing his hands which held three Poké Balls. "Right then, dear Pokémon. Time to come out of your Poké Balls." The director said enlarging all three of them and tossing them into the air.

If there was some sort of speedometer that measured excitement, then Juliana's would be well over 200. She was hypnotized by the three Poké Balls in the air. Her eyes followed each one as they opened midair ejecting the standard red light from them, spawning three separate Pokémon upon the ground.

"Oh my...!" Mom cried out in utter surprise.

"They're here!" Juliana exclaimed raising one arm into the air ecstatically. But she couldn't have been any less prepared for what Pokémon were in front of her.

Lined up side-by-side with each other, were the three starter Pokémon of the Paldea region. The first one, being the water starter known as Quaxly. A white duckling-like Pokémon, having a yellow beak and blue eyes, teal webbed feet and a large teal coif-like crest covering its head that looked almost like a pompadour, with a feathery tuft in the front and a curvy line shaped like a wave. The water type waved a wing in the air confidently with its tuft swaying in the wind.

Next, standing left to the water type was the fire starter, Fuecoco. A bipedal crocodilian Pokémon with a mostly red body and a white stomach and face, with two tufts of flame on the top of its head, which emitted a bright gold glow that was simply radiating warmth. It had black eyes and triangular nostrils, a big mouth with three teeth, with just a stumpy body overall. The Pokémon gave an inviting wave of its hand towards Juliana, giving off a friendly demeanor.

And lastly, standing on the leftmost side was the grass starter of the region, Sprigatito. A quadrupedal feline Pokémon covered from head to toe with green fur. The fur's composition really seeming to resemble that of a plant. It had green ears with pale green insides, a tuft of fur on the front of its chest and a green marking around its pink eyes and a nose resembling leaves. It had a fluffy tail as well as small paws and pink paw pads underneath. The grass type began to scratch itself with its right arm, giving a soothing purr at the same time.

Juliana was simply astonished. Her mouth metaphorically dropped to the floor she was so wonderstruck.

"You see, it is not an everyday occurrence Naranja gives away Starter Pokémon so liberally. Take this as our apology for not receiving your enrollment documents sooner." Clavell explained.

"Hehe, apology accepted." Juliana said with a laugh still eying down her three options before her. "Man, and I was just expecting a Lechonk or something. What's next, are you guys going to give me a vacation to the Alola region?" The girl joked.

Mom kept eying the Pokémon same as her daughter, any of the trio seemed like a solid choice. "So, Juliana can choose between any of the three of them I take it?" She asked receiving a head nod from the director.

"Why that is correct." Clavell confirmed. "They're all very good company. Why, they usually refuse to even leave my side." He said as the three starter Pokémon all walked closer towards Juliana who felt she might pass out from a happy dose at any moment.

"Quaxly, Quax, Quax!" The water type Pokémon uttered doing a backflip landing on his feet.

"Coco, Fuecoco, Co!" The fire type said cheerfully, blowing some steam from his wide nostrils.

Then there was Sprigatito, who walked up to Juliana's leg proceeding to brush its head against the girl's leg whilst softly purring.

"So, which will it be, Miss?" Clavell asked, genuinely intrigued as to which of the three Naranja Academy's newest student would choose.

Still, it had been a little bit since Clavell revealed the three starter Pokémon of Paldea, and yet Juliana was just as mesmerized as when she first saw them. Of course that meant choosing which Pokémon would be her starter would be no easy task.

Beginning to fret over the hard decision she had on her hands, Juliana took her eyes off the Pokémon for the first time in over a minute and leered over to the distance in the horizon.

"Um, to be continued...?" The girl cried.

And there we have it folks, that's the first chapter of Pokémon Scarlet: Serenidad. I hope you guys enjoyed that as much as I enjoyed writing it. So, pretty soon, I suppose we'll find out which Pokémon Juliana's going to choose, comment which of the three you guys want her to get.
