It's time for some Louie angst. :)

Spoilers for Pikmin 2.

Louie's eyes opened. He was greeted with a clear sky as opposed to the dark cave ceiling he grew accustomed to. Where was he? How did he get out from the cave? How did he get off the creature that kidnapped him? He thought he was trapped with no hope of escape.

"I'm sorry," A familiar voice said.

Louie sat himself up to look towards who spoke. He saw Olimar standing close by with a guilty look on his face.

"You came back for me?" Louie asked looking up at Olimar with awe in his eyes.

"Of course," Olimar said making his way towards Louie.

Louie saw that Olimar was still in his spacesuit, so he concluded that they still didn't leave the Pikmin planet yet. Now that Louie was more aware of his surroundings, he could still feel his helmet on his head. When Olimar was close enough, the captain knelt on the ground and wrapped his arms around Louie in a hug. Louie felt Olimar's helmet lean against his. Louie reached out his hand and gripped Olimar's arm. He gave up hope that Olimar would come back for him, he squeezed Olimar's arm, but still couldn't believe this was real. Would he open his eyes and still be stuck in the cave kidnapped by the creature?

"I'm sorry for not coming back sooner," Olimar said in an apologetic tone and squeezing Louie.

"Don't worry about it," Louie replied.

"I'm glad to see you're alright Louie," The familiar voice of the ship's AI said putting itself in the conversation.

Louie opened his eyes and turned his head towards the voice. He saw their ship, but it was different than the last time he saw it. The top cockpit seemed to be twice the size, with the bottom cockpit having a couch and a TV inside it. Louie looked the ship up and down and saw the gold plating on it, and it seemed to be more stable than the last time he saw it.

"I received an upgrade," It said, "My systems run a lot smoother now."

"The President made some modifications to the ship before we came back here," Olimar explained, "We had some extra money after he repaid the debt, and we were able to improve the ship. I insisted we make one of the cockpits bigger in order to accommodate a third person, but in doing so The President refurbished the second one in order to make himself more comfortable. If he was having his own cockpit, he wanted himself to be comfortable."

Louie raised an eyebrow at that. Olimar made the cockpit bigger to fit both of them? The President came to this planet? Louie had so many questions.

"My boy," Another familiar voice said, "You're awake!"

Louie and Olimar looked towards the voice to see The President coming back with his squad of Pikmin. He was grinning and seemed excited. Louie was immediately suspicious, from the few months he worked at Hocotate Freight, he knew his boss only grinned like that when he was getting something he wanted. The President didn't care for anyone besides his wife and the financial stability of his company.

"I'd like to express my gratitude towards you and what treasures you helped me gain," The President said grinning ear to ear, "Your little stunt with the big spider gave us so much treasure."

Olimar glared at The President after he felt Louie tense up. Is that all he cared about? He shouldn't have been surprised that he didn't care about the safety of his employees. Olimar squeezed Louie's shoulder in an attempt to comfort him as The President continued on.

"Both of you will be heavily compensated for your troubles," The President said, "Now let's go home, the ship has indicated that there is no more treasure on this planet."

The Pikmin did their best to glare at The President. They didn't like him either, but felt the need to follow him everytime they heard his whistle. It wasn't as sweet sounding as the other two they've followed, but something still compelled them to follow him. The President dismissed the Pikmin and made his way towards his cockpit without another word. He knew Olimar or Louie would put the Pikmin back in their Onions. Olimar stood up and put out his hand.

"Louie are you able to walk?" Olimar asked reaching out his hand towards Louie.

Louie grabbed Olimar's hand and was helped up. His legs felt wobbly. When was the last time he was able to walk properly? He felt himself sway backwards, but felt an arm go around his shoulders to keep him steady. Louie looked up at Olimar, he could see the captain smiling down at him.

"I got you son," Olimar said.

Louie's face went red at hearing Olimar call him 'son', but he didn't say anything to stop it. The Pikmin looked curious at the two that they followed. Although they couldn't understand what the two were saying, they knew this would be the last time they'd see the two they were so fond of. The Pikmin that were outside of their Onions gathered together and started to hum. This was their way of trying to say goodbye to the two that treated them so well.

"We'll miss you," Olimar said waving goodbye at the Pikmin with his free hand.

Louie did the same. Despite everything, he was going to miss them as well. At first he wanted to eat them because they looked like Pik-Pik carrots, but he grew fond of them during his time on his planet. He hoped they'd be able to survive the planet after they left. The two slowly made their way towards the newly refurbished ship. As they climbed towards the top cockpit, they could hear the TV blaring from The President's cockpit. Olimar helped Louie get inside. Louie took notice how bigger it was than the normal sized cockpit. The seat was able to fit the both of them, but it was still small enough that Louie's body was against Olimar's with no space in between them. They were both up against the side of the cockpit's walls.

"Sorry if it's too cramped," Olimar said apologizing, "It was the best I could do on short notice."

"Still better than being in the hub," Louie said cringing.

He remembered the short time he was in the research pod's treasure hub. When he was rescued, he recalled waking up in the treasure hub and being smooshed against all the treasure that was collected. He ended up falling back unconscious due to the exhaustion he felt. He didn't want to be put there the entire ride home, it would be worse than this. He knew how unstable the treasure hub could be at points.

"Are you two ready to take off?" The ship asked.

Olimar and Louie looked out the window to see Pikmin gathering below them.

"Yes," Olimar said sadly.

He was going to miss the Pikmin, but they couldn't stay there. He almost wanted to get the Onions tied to the ship and take all the Pikmin with him back to Hocotate, but he didn't know how they'd fare on Hocotate. He didn't want to make the Pikmin extinct just to see if they'd survive his home planet. He recalled how the purple and white Pikmin were sad to leave their ship, he regretted not being able to find an Onion for them. They were able to go into another Onion, but he didn't know how long that would last. He'd hope they'd be okay. Olimar and Louie continued to watch the Pikmin as the ship was getting ready for take off. The Pikmin left outside made their way into their Onions as they saw the ship leaving the atmosphere.

As they were leaving towards space, they saw different colored Onions fly by their ship. Olimar saw a purple and a white in the mix, and hoped the purple and white Pikmin he plucked would find their way towards those Onions. Olimar recalled the first time he left this planet, the Pikmin said goodbye to him in a similar way. They saw the Onions fly back to the planet when they got too far into space. Did the Onions know they couldn't follow them? Were they programmed to not go a certain distance away from their planet? Olimar didn't know, and didn't have the means to test it out.

Before Olimar could get into his own head about new theories about the Pikmin he felt something grab onto his arm. Olimar looked down to see Louie grabbing onto it and squeezing it.

"We're going home kid," Olimar said smiling and wrapping an arm around Louie's shoulder, "You can take your helmet off now, we're not going to be needing them anymore."

Louie let go of Olimar and took off his helmet. This was the first time in a long while he was able to breathe their air without the use of their spacesuits. It felt nice being able to breathe normally again. He looked at his helmet, he saw images of Pikmin in it and tried to remember the good times of the planet. He placed it down in front of him, leaned back, and closed his eyes. He was going home with his father.

Definitely took canon out the window with this one, but I felt bad that Louie had to ride in the treasure hub in the actual game, so I changed it to where Olimar's cockpit was bigger. Is that feasible? Idk, but we're doing it. What better way to make sure your son is with you is by making him sit next to you on the way home?

I got a list of ideas for this series and some of those ideas are already in the works, so despite the title this isn't the last fic in this series. Based on my ideas I have for the series there's 3-4 more fics that I plan to do? Maybe more, since I got a few fics I started up outside of the ideas I had. The idea list I have are post-Pikmin 2 back on Hocotate fics, so I need to figure out how I'm doing my own version of things since canon didn't give us much to work with in regards to Olimar's and Louie's Families.

I also do plan to have some Post Pikmin 3 fics and possibly 4? But I haven't gotten there yet with solid ideas, they'll be less canon compliant as the previous game based fics though. Idk what the next fic will be. Could be some more Pikmin 2 fics set before this or it could be post Pikmin 2 back on Hocotate, we shall see.
