Wowp: Troubled Past

Chapter 14

Justin walked over to his sister to see what kind of wound she had, he needed to see if it was serious. If she was in any danger. He doubted it, seeing as she was able to fully engage in their conversation and while she seemed like she was in pain it didn't look like she was dying.

"Alex." Justin said. "Let me see your wound."

The younger Russo looked at her brother before reluctantly letting go of her wound, revealing her shirt had a hole in it, showing the skin underneath the fabric. He saw that she had scorch marks on her skin. Whatever the enemy had done they did not try to kill her.

'I wonder why. These guys are brutal, I don't think they showed her sympathy just because she's a teenager.' Justin thought. 'The enemy showed her mercy, for what reason I have no idea.'

"Justin?"

"We should get you to the hospital, you need to have that looked at."

"But-" Alex looked at the corpse of William with a grimace.

Justin glanced at Jenna before looking at Alex. "I'm sure a funeral will be held for him, get yourself looked at by a doctor. That's the best thing for you right now. You have the right to grieve him, but Alex don't make the people that love you worry."

"Alright, Justin." Alex said her voice shaky. She had failed. She and William tried but they could not stop this genocide from happening. These innocent people were like lambs to the slaughter. There was not a thing they could do.

Justin picked Alex up causing her to wince in pain. "I'm sorry to ask you this, but could you teleport us to the hospital."

Alex knew that he wouldn't be able to use his wand holding her like this, so she nodded. "Harper. I need you to inform our family about what happened." Justin said looking at her.

Harper nods.

"Also find out the details about the funeral." Justin added.

Again, Harper nodded. With that the siblings disappeared in a flash of light. Harper sighed before turning towards the grieving mother.

Jerry and Theresa widened their eyes as Harper finished telling them what was going on. They couldn't believe the words that were escaping her mouth, but they knew Harper wouldn't lie about .something like this.

"William must have really loved Alex. To sacrifice his own life is…what you told us has to be wrong then." Theresa said. "Was he really as cold as you told us he was?"

Harper frowned at the question. "What I told you about him is the truth."

"How sure are you about that?" Jerry asked. He risked his life for her. That only meant one thing. He cared enough about her to risk it all.

"I'll admit he was pretty cold." Harper said. "Maybe spending so much time with Alex changed him? William was willing to save the city, so I imagined he had something to fight for."

"And you think that something is Alex?" Theresa asked.

Harper nods. "I do, he risked his life for her after all." She replied.

"Um…hi, William. I was wondering if you'd want to grab something to eat sometime? Or maybe a movie?"

"Not interested. I could be doing other things with .my time. Why should I have to entertain you?"

Harper stared at the parents. "When he rejected me, he made it sound like he didn't have time for things like dating…I wonder, maybe there was a reason he was so cold towards everyone?"

"Could be." Jerry said. "Maybe the truth will come out one day, but for now we should be there for Alex."

Theresa nods. She had watched him die in front of her after all.

"I'll drive." Jerry said.

Theresa and Harper followed Jerry as they walked to the car.

Jerry and the others entered Alex's room causing her and Justin to look at them.

"I assume you know what happened?" Justin questioned looking at his mother and father.

Jerry and Theresa nodded.

"Alex…"

"I know. What I did was reckless and-"

"It was." Theresa said looking at her daughter sternly.

Jerry crossed his arms across his chest. "It was also brave. I don't like the idea of you running towards danger, but I am proud of you."

"You are?" Alex asked finding it odd to hear praise from her Father. He didn't do it often after all.

Theresa smiled. "You tried to save lives. Can't be mad at you for that, of course we're proud of you honey."

"Where's Max?"

"He's at a friend's house. I doubt he knows what's going on." Jerry replied.

Alex frowned. "He's going to find out eventually, whatever plan the Elementals have for this city, its anything but good."

"You really think there's nobody who can stop these guys?" Jerry asked. "How do you know there's not any Elementals out there like William?"

"If there were don't you think they would've helped by now?" Justin asked.

"I have to agree with Justin." Alex said. "If there was anybody willing to help the city they would have been there."

Nobody could argue with that logic, it made sense.

"Did the doctor say how long you have to stay here?" Theresa asked.

"Yeah, the doctor said I'd have to stay at least a few weeks. It's a burn wound so it takes longer to heal than ordinary wounds."

"I see." Jerry said. "At least you're alive."

Alex looked away. "Yes…I'm alive." She spoke. 'And William's dead.'

"Guys look. "Justin voice drawled their attention to him. They saw he was looking at the tv that was attached to the wall.

MILLITARY FORCES CLOSES IN ON DAHAK'S TERRORIST GROUP.

Alex, Jerry and Theresa widened their eyes.

Justin stared at the TV screen before clenching his fists. "They're all going to be wiped out."

"How can you be so sure?" Theresa asked as she looked at the screen. She saw Tanks and swarms of men zeroing in on a construction site of some kind.

"They have a lot of men and a lot of firepower sure. They might manage to take out some Elementals but eventually the enemy will lose. They don't stand a chance against this terrorist group. While weapons work against Elemental's they're simply too powerful, a swing of an arm could destroy hundreds of men."

Theresa widened her eyes. "Then all hope is lost."

Justin continued to stare at the TV. "I'm afraid so."
