Today we find our trio on their way towards Violet City, but it seems something all too familiar is going on.

"All I'm saying is the two of you should get some training in, you never know when you'll need to battle." Ash pointed out.

"Isn't the entire reason I'm tagging along with you is so you can handle the fighting?" Molly asked.

"And all I'm saying is I'm not going to play punching bag for your Charizard every time you get bored and want a fight!" Casey argued, not listening to Molly.

"You don't have to fight me, spar with each other, but you should know how to battle and handle situations in case something happens!" Ash rebutted.

"I actually wouldn't mind training a bit with Cyndaquil." Molly offered.

"And what, you'll just give your usual commentary on my battling the entire time?" Casey argued.

"One time! And you deserved it!" Ash argued.

"Hey guys, I think I see something." Molly said, noticing a figure approaching their bags.

"Oh please, you did nothing but try and belittle me for my favorite baseball team! You didn't even know me!" Casey reminded.

"I apologized, besides I have my own training to do if I plan on beating the Violet City gym!" Ash countered.

"Hey guys, stop fighting!" Molly exclaimed. "Something's digging in our bags!"

Ash and Casey turned to see a shadowy figure lift up Ash's Pokegear and the GS Ball before running off.

"The GS Ball!" Ash exclaimed. "Pikachu use Quick Attack!" Pikachu sped forward, only to slam his head into a tree as the Pokemon scuttled away.

"Chikorita use Razor Leaf!" Casey called out.

"No don't!" Ash exclaimed. "You might break them."

"Then how do you stop something you can't attack!" Casey reminded.

"This is what training is for, to learn what moves can do things!" Ash argued.

"Hey guys, want to bench the argument of the day until after we get Ash's stolen stuff back?" Molly asked.

"Right, good idea." Ash said.

"Pika Pi!" Pikachu called out, pointing at the ground.

"Tracks, perfect, that means we can follow it." Ash said. "Let's go!"

"Wait, what about our training?" Molly asked, grabbing her and Ash's bag, following him.

"There it is, right ahead! Pikachu use Quick Attack!"

Pikachu launched forward, narrowly missing the Pokemon once again as it dodged out of the way.

"Cyndaquil use Ember!" Molly called out, holding Cyndaquil in her arms.

The flames on Cyndaquil's back ignited, revealing the creature still holding the GS Ball.

"What even is that Pokemon?" Ash asked, grabbing his own Pokedex.

'Furret, the Long Body Pokemon, a Normal Type. It lives in narrow burrows that fit its slim body. The deeper the nests go, the more maze-like they become.' The Pokedex explained.

"We can't let it escape, if it gets into it's nest we may never find it!" Ash exclaimed. "Bulbasaur use Vine Whip!"

Bulbasaur came out of his Pokeball, sending out his vines to entangle Furret, only for the normal type to bite down on one, causing Bulbasaur to retract his vines quickly.

"Ash, what about a double header?" Casey asked, looking at her own Pokedex.

"Alright, let's try it again, Bulbasaur use Vine Whip!"

"Chikorita you use Vine Whip too!"

The two grass types sent out their vines, entangling the Furret and holding it in place long enough for Ash to get his things back from the normal type. Once Ash was clear, both Bulbasaur and Chikorita released their vines, freeing the normal type.

"All good?" Molly asked.

"Yeah they seem fine." Ash said, double checking both items.

"Good." Molly said. "Now Cyndaquil use Tackle!"

"Chikorita you use Tackle too!" Casey called out.

The two Pokemon slammed into the Furtet simultaneously causing the long normal type to scamper off into a hole.

Back in the cleared path

"Okay so I will admit using our Pokédex to find out what our Pokemon can do is useful." Casey said.

"Why do I feel a but coming." Ash groaned.

"You did say you were going to do some training to prepare yourself for the Violet City gym." Molly pointed out.

"And since you don't seem to have anyone else to fight, we thought we could help, on one condition." Casey offered.

"And what condition is that?" Ash questioned.

"You have to use Gligar." Molly remarked.

"A Ground and Flying type against a Grass type and a Fire type, you do remember how much trouble I had fighting this guy?" Ash asked.

"Yeah, but can you fight both of us?" Casey asked.

"At once?" Molly finished.

"Oh this will be fun. Gligar I choose you!" Ash called out.

"Chikorita come on out!" Casey exclaimed.

"Cyndaquil let's go!" Molly cheered.

"Chikorita use Tackle!"

"Gligar use Poison Sting!"

Chikorita launched forward, with Gligar latching onto the grass type, striking with its stinger.

"Cyndaquil use Tackle!"

With Gligar preoccupied Cyndaquil was able to slam into the flying type undetected.

"Gligar use Sand Attack!"

"Chikorita use Razor Leaf!"

"Cyndaquil use Ember!"

Gligar spun into the air, unleashing a dust cloud to obscure himself from view as the two elemental attacks fired into the dust.

"Two can play at that game, Cyndaquil use Smokescreen!" Molly called out.

"Didn't you say Gligar was Ground and Flying, where are those types of moves?" Molly questioned.

"Oh, umm… Gligar use Poison Sting again!" Ash called out.

Gligar launched forward through the dust and smoke, latching onto Chikorita and inflicting massive damage.

"Cyndaquil use Ember!" Molly called out.

"Wait don't!" Casey called out as Gligar flew off, letting the flames take out Chikorita.

"Good point Casey, always pay attention to every part of the battle, you never know when your own attack might backfire." Ash said.

"How many attacks from your Pokemon did you take catching Gligar again?" Casey questioned.

"Enough questions!" Ash exclaimed. "Gligar use Poison Sting!"

"Cyndaquil use Ember!"

Gligar flew back down, latching onto Cyndaquil for the knockout.

"So are you going to gloat again now?" Casey asked.

"Again I apologized for that!" Ash argued. "Besides you two did learn to look at what attacks you could use, and helping with that Furret you definitely showed you know how to use moves in ways other than just offensively, so I guess it's good for today."

"And?" Casey asked.

"And if we hurry we can make it to Violet City before nightfall, come on!" Ash cheered racing off with Gligar and Pikachu right behind him.
