Chapter One
Lassiter had just returned from the hospital with O'Hara, their suspect Lieberman in the wind. They had no arrest and worst of all, it started to seem like Spencer was actually on to something.
This was not the first time that the Head Detective of the SBPD Carlton Lassiter had to deal with Shawn Spencer and Burton Guster's hijinks. The duo had made it their life mission, at least in Carlton's mind, to make a complete and utter mockery of the department whenever they could. The detective knew it was on purpose and that the boys, most likely just the claim-to-be psychic Spencer got kicks out of undermining his authority. Well no longer. Carlton's first step to turn the tables was to provide Spencer with several ridiculous cases that were impossible or highly unlikely to be solved; especially by an amateur psychic.
He was sure if he put in the effort he could solve whichever case he set his mind to, so it wasn't because Carlton couldn't do it on his own. Oh no. It was just that Carlton was on track to one day become chief and to climb the ladder he needed to be the best and that included making arrests and solving high profile cases. It did not involve dealing with nut jobs or in this case pathological liars. Nope.
Therefore when the opportunity presented itself and Lying Ryan once again called in with a tip, that would most definitely send him and Ohara on a wild goose chase, Carlton made sure that Spencer would take the case. Shawn played right into his hands, unable to stay out of police business and intrigued by the so-called assassination plot that Ryan overheard.
To his dismay though it seemed like Shawn was making leeway in the case! And this so called plot may actually contain some miniscule kernel of truth pushing it to be more 'high profile' than he could have imagined.
"This marks another win for The Lightman Group as they along with the Washington DC police department have tracked down the missing young girl, Samantha Burch. Ms. Burch had been reported missing for two months with the police having no leads forcing her parents to contact Cal Lightman. Now Lightman is a private contractor dealing with the art of deception and is even know as the 'Human Lie Detector'. With his aid and that of his partner Dr. Gillian Foster they were able to assist the police in capturing Samantha's kidnapper and another victim… "
Carlton muted the T.V. in the break room eyes zoning in on the man on the screen. He had stopped listening at 'Human Lie Detector'. It was exactly what he needed. He may be too late to solve the case of Lying Ryan, however perhaps he could show Chief Vick that the department's pet psychic was anything but.
