Scream V (2022) My Version
Chapter Sixteen: Death Of Two Hicks
The sun, still a half hour from setting as is the day is entering the evening. At the Hicks residence, Judy sips a glass of wine as she talks on her phone. Not in uniform anymore, yoga pants and a comfy sweat shirt. At ease, she had just had a workout.
"And extra soy. Thank you. I'll be there in ten minutes." Judy said before hanging up. She had just ordered some Chinese food for her and Wes to eat for dinner.
A chime can be heard outside. Judy hears this and moves towards the noise. She moves towards the back porch going to check it out. She had grabbed a knife to arm herself in case she was sttacked. She continued making sure there were no intruders on her property. She saw the back door open and moved to close it and lock it before being startled by Wes.
"Jesus mom." Wes said equally startled. He was sweating and oit of breath having went for a run.
"Sorry. Hey, Tiger." Judy said.
"Sorry I startled you, Mom." Wes said.
"Its ok. Are you being safe?" Judy asked.
Wes produces a can of pepper spray and a taser.
"To the point that all my friends mock me, yes. What's for dinner?" Wes asked.
"Sushi. I was just leaving to pick it up." Judy said.
"You don't want to Postmates it?" Wes asked.
"It's always smooshy when it gets here, I know how you hate that. I also made some more lemon squares. They're in the fridge. Go take a shower, I'll be back soon." Judy told him.
She kisses him on the cheek. He pretends to be embarrassed, but walks away smiling. Judy heads out the front door and locked it.
Wes strips down and turns on the shower. Puts his cell phone by the sink. Steps inside, closes the sliding door.
Judy pulls out of the driveway onto her residential street. Nothing feels ominous. its still light out.
The shower is on, Wes is washing himself. There's an uneasy feeling in there.
Judy eyes everyone she sees on the streets and sidewalks. Everyone's a potential suspect. News vans, camera crews and reporters draw onlookers. Woodsboro's back in the spotlight. Her phone rings. She doesn't recognize the number on the display. Answers anyway via her car's blue-tooth system.
"Sheriff Hicks." She coolly answered.
"Hello, Sheriff Judy." The voice is recognized. Judy tenses.
"Who is this?" Judy asked.
"I think you know. I'm a fan of scary movies. And knives. What's your favorite scary movie?" Ghostface asks.
"I prefer animated films and musicals. Why are you doing this?" Judy asked. She picks up her phone and begins texting her DEPUTY:
Killer on line, need trace-
"I'll tell you all about it. I'm calling to turn myself in." Ghost face said.
"I think that's a great idea." Judy said.
"We'll sit down at the station and I'll tell you about the three people I've killed." Ghost face says.
"You've only killed two people." Judy said frowning confused.
"But by time I see you, I'll have gutted your baby boy." Judy pulls a screeching u-turn in traffic and flips on her cherries and sirens! She ends the call and dials Wes, racing full speed back towards the house...
Wes soaps himself up in the shower, oblivious. By the sink, Wes's cell phone vibrates impotently. Wes's phone ring... and ring... and ring...
"Come on! Pick up, Wes!" Judy said trying to reach her son but failing. Wes's phone goes to voicemail. "Fuck!" She dials 911.
"911, what is your-" came the voice of the 911 operator. Judy cuts her off.
"This is Sheriff Hicks, I need units to converge on my house ASAP-" Judy yelled into the phone. She sees the call waiting on her line. Desperate, Judy clicks the other call.
"Can't get him on the phone, can you? He must be busy." Ghost face teased.
"How do I know you're anywhere near him?" Judy asked uncertain of the situation. On one hand she believes her son to be in danger but on the other someone could be playing a very cruel joke.
"Ever seen the movie Psycho?" Ghost face asked. Judy doesn't respond but no knows the situation is very real. She also understood the reference. No one knew Wes was in the shower except her and of course Wes himself. The only way this intruder could know Wes was in the shower was if this person was there watching him. Not taking any chances, Judy's foot smashes her on the accelerator. Horns blare as she swerves in and out of traffic!
"Please... please don't hurt my boy." She asked.
"Why not?"
"Because... I love him very much. He's a good kid and he never hurt anyone." Judy said crying.
"That's not enough." Ghost face said menacingly.
"Please... I'll do anything..." Judy begged while rushing to back to her residence.
"You're not going to make it in time, Sheriff Judy." Ghost face said to her.
Meanwhile, Wes washes the shampoo out of his hair. Is he done? Does he have a chance? Nope. He grabs the conditioner...
Judy's cruiser tears down the street towards her house! She drives up the curb- BAM! And over her lawn, barely putting the car in park before flying out of the driver's seat -- She sprints up the steps to the front door --
"WES, I'M COMING! WES!" Judy screams running up to the front of her door.
As ghost face leaps out of the bushes and stabs Judy in the chest! Then does it again! And again!
Judy falls down the stone steps onto her front lawn. Ghostface straddles her, stabbing her in the chest!
She pulls off his mask. Recognition in her eyes... before the light goes out of them.
Wes turns off the water. Steps out of the shower. Puts on a towel. Checks his phone. missed calls from "MOM." He presses the screen, calling her back. Ringing. Nothing.
He frowns. Weird. Must not have been important.
Fault, back door...
Wes cocks his head. Opens the bathroom door and calls out:
"I'll be down in a sec!" Wes said thinking his mother was back home. He has no idea that she is dead.
He continues to towel off as we hold on him...getting dressed before heading downstairs. He goes into the kitchen and begins to grab the items to set the table. He hears noise coming from the living room.
"Mom?" Wes through the living room into the kitchen, grabbing his pepper spray as he goes. The kitchen window's drapes flap in the breeze --"The fuck...?"
He's about to pass through the kitchen again when he hears noise in the foyer of the house. Wes takes a breath. Moves back into the living room into the foyer. Every muscle in his body tensing. He creeps towards the now slightly ajar front door. Oh God, is the killer leading him to his mother's butchered body? He reaches for the knob -- catches a glimpse of movement in a mirror on the opposite wall --
DUCKS as Ghostface bursts from a closet behind him! Barely misses getting stuck by the blade! Drops the pepper spray as he braces himself against the wall! Ghost reaches him holding the knife in his left hand while holding Wes up against the door.
"FUCK!!!" He shouts making an attempt for the other pepper stay in the bin by the door but it's just out of his reach. The knife inches closer and closer until it's right up under his throat. "NO!" Wes attempts to say before the knife slowly pierces his throat. Blood spills down Wes's clean shirt. The life slowly drains out of Wes. As he takes his last breath, the only thought his mind was of Mindy's comments to him. He thought he and his mom were safe. He was wrong. So was Mindy. Wes' eyes stay frozen open as he dies.
