Alkali Lake, Canada: 10:00am, December 20th, 2006
"Are we ready to begin?" Colonel Stryker asked as he walked into the lab where several scientists were at their station on a platform, typing on computers, displaying the vitals of a human being like heart rate and blood pressure.
While below them, in the middle of the room, strapped to a board above a tank of water... was a fourteen-year old James Draven, who had been staring up at the ceiling only for his eyes to snap to Stryker upon hearing the man enter and hatred entered the teenage boy's eyes, letting out muffled growls due to the snorkel in his mouth which would stop him from drowning when he would be lowered into the tank. James was only dressed in a pair of black undergarments, his hands bound and tied down tightly which prevented movement from him.
Dr. Cornelius looked up from his paperwork and nodded. "We're ready. Two years of testing... he's finally ready for the Adamantium bonding procedure."
Stryker smiled at this. Indeed, over the past two years since they captured James, they've placed him into various survival training missions around Alkali Lake, forcing him to rely on his claws to defend himself. Stryker would never forget the look of pure terror and fear in James' eyes when the boy first killed an animal with the claws and stared at the blood that covered half of his body. There had been no plans to send him out on assassination missions, they needed him trained to be a killer and a weapon, so they struck to training sessions and if he resisted then he would be punished severely until he had no choice but to comply with their demands.
It did not stop him from glaring and snarling at them whenever they got close to him or insulted him while he was in his cell.
"We failed with Wolverine, we will not do the same with his son." Stryker said firmly as he stared down at the restrained James, who was staring back with a glare. "Can you hear me, Weapon X?"
James did not move nor even blink.
"James?" Stryker pressed.
This time, James narrowed his eyes, only responding to use of his name.
'That won't last long once the bonding process is complete.' Stryker thought with a cold smile before he walked down the steps and got closer to the restrained metahuman who kept his glare locked on the colonel. "I want to thank you, James. You've made Weapon X's resurgence possible. When we failed with your father, we will succeed with you. Weapon X has a lot of enemies that needs to be taken out, people who have outlived their usefulness to us. Now, as for what's going to happen to you... we're going to make you indestructible, but first we're going to destroy you. I'm going to take great satisfaction in your pain, James, for all your father has cost me. And I assure you, unlike him... you won't escape."
James just stared at him, eyes narrowing hatefully as his clenched fists tightened.
Stryker stared at him for a long moment then smirked. "What we're about to do is bond a powerful metal alloy called Adamantium to your entire skeleton. I have been assured by my scientists that there is a 100% guarantee of you surviving the procedure. Once it's done, then the real work with you begins."
Stryker walked away, back up to the platform with James staring after him. Stopping beside Dr. Cornelius and ensuring he had view of everything, Stryker nodded at the good doctor.
"Begin the procedure." He ordered.
Cornelius pressed a button, which lowered the board James was strapped to into the tank of water until it touched the bottom. The scientists pressed more buttons, pushed up more levers, which began filling syringes with the liquid form of Adamantium that would be injected through needles and into James' body when the procedure begins. However, because they needed to keep the liquid Adamantium hot, they turned the needle regulator to max, which left the metal with a burning, reddish-orange colour as a sign of the intense heat.
James's eyes shifted as the needles came closer until they came to a stop, hovering at various parts of his body, like his head, cheeks, chest, arms and legs.
Up above, a female doctor looked at James' heart rate, which had gone from 63 to 68, then glanced at Stryker and Cornelius who sent her a nod to begin. With a measure of reluctance, but knowing she had a job to do, she pressed the 'start' button.
James' eyes widened as the needles pierced into his flesh, and then began injecting the Adamantium into him which came with intense pain and heat that made him shut his eyes in pure agony, unable to scream his lungs out due to having his mouth covered and being submerged. However, he was able to show how much this was hurting him as he thrashed as best as he could while restrained.
The pain was unbearable, unlike anything he had ever felt. Even after the two years of being tortured and beaten by Weapon X.
"Body temperature 108 and rising." A doctor reported to Cornelius who nodded, watching James closely along with Stryker.
"Do you think we should've sedated him?" Cornelius asked Stryker, who shook his head.
"Like everyone, he feels pain. But anaesthesia won't work on him, and even if it did... I wouldn't sedate him." Stryker said coldly.
"Heart rate 190... 195." The female doctor reported after a moment, looking up from her screen. "200... 210, it's well beyond maximum."
"Blood pressure?" Stryker looked at the doctor checking on that.
"260, over 180 and rising!" The doctor replied.
"He'll survive this." Stryker said with hope, that his weapon will survive.
As James thrashed, flashes of his family went through his mind, the day they were mercilessly murdered by Weapon X, then the videos they had shown him of his birth father... the Wolverine, or Logan as he was called.
"Heart rate's going over 300!" The female doctor called with wide eyes.
Everyone seemed to hold their breath as they looked up from their work, watching as James continued to thrash, then came a sound they did not want to bear.
A flatline.
Stryker's gaze snapped to the heart rate monitor and he stared at the red straight line, the single, drawn out beep echoing through his head before it all went silent. On the monitors displaying James' skeleton, the heat of the Adamantium faded away, revealing the skeleton had been bonded with the Adamantium.
"Dammit." Stryker sighed, angered that he had lost his weapon. He had been hoping James' healing factor would be strong enough to prevent him from dying, just as his father survived the operation, but it seemed the son was not as strong as the father as Stryker believed. He turned to several nearby soldiers. "Go get the body out of the tank. Turn off the monitors. With luck, we can use his blood to clone him."
Cornelius looked over at him. "Does that mean you want to hand him over to Cadmus for the cloning process?"
Stryker sighed as he turned to him while guards went down to collect the body. "They're the only ones who've went into the art of cloning somebody, and they have been interested in working alongside us. But we won't let them take full control of the project."
As the female doctor went to turn off the heart rate monitor, she paused when she heard a single sound that made her stiffen as James' body was raised on the board, the guards working on undoing his restraints.
...beep.
The doctor snapped her head to the monitor, her eyes widening when she saw a small spike in James' heart. Then, the heart monitor began to normalize into a normal beat.
"Sir!" The doctor called to Stryker, who looked over and saw the monitor for himself. His eyes widened and he snapped his gaze to the tank below just as a sound filled the room.
SNIKT!
The guard closest to James didn't get a chance to scream as three metal-coated claws pierced through his skull, blood covering the claws, before they were ripped out as James sprung up with a roar and slashed a second guard across the throat, which made blood gush out like a leaking bucket. The remaining two guards grabbed their weapons and fired at James, hwo grunted at the bullets struck him in the chest before the wounds healed quickly. With a angry growl, James lunged and drove both his claws through the chest of one of the guards, stabbing him repeatedly and without mercy, even as blood splattered onto his chest and face.
"Lock down!" Stryker ordered as James stabbed the final guard through the eyes, then ripped the head off with a swing through the neck.
Alarms blared as more soldiers entered and fired at James, who ran and lunged at them, slashing at them like an animal, easily cutting them down while their blood and organs came outside of their bodies. Spotting a door beginning to slid shut, James quickly ran and slid through just before it could shut.
"No! No!" Stryker yelled with anger that his weapon was getting away. He grabbed a radio. "All personal! Weapon X is loose! I repeat Weapon X is loose!"
James panted as he ran through corridor after corridor in this godforsaken facility, trying to find the nearest exist. He came to a stop as guards came and started blocking his way.
"We've got Weapon X in sight! He moves, fire!" One ordered as they aimed their weapons at James.
The son of the Wolverine growled and started jogging towards them, causing them to open fire which is when he full on charged with a roar and lunged, stabbing one guard in the face while taking him down, then slashed through the throat of a second, stabbed both claws into the chest of a third and ripped his chest open which made his guts and vital organs spill out, then he shoulder-bashed a fourth into the wall and stabbed him repeatedly with savage, almost animal-like growls escaping him.
Sniffing the air, James smelled the faint scent of the outside and sprinted for it, following the scent. Of course, he was met with guards getting in his way, but he cut through them easily, more focused on getting out than killing people.
He panted as he approached an exit door, stopping as he stared at the blood-soaked metal claws, three each coming out the space between his knuckles. His upper body was a right mess, mainly due to all the blood and slight bits of guts sticking to him, not even his face was safe. This sight, along with what he experienced just a few minutes again, became too much for James' young mind as the terror and fear of what he's become bubbled over.
"GAAAAARRRRRRRRRGGGGAAAAAHHHH!" James screamed in terror and horror.
Tears streaming down his face, James knew he couldn't wait and quickly slashed an open through the door which led him out to near a waterfall. Looking around, James saw no one coming for him yet and ran, leaping off the cliff with no hesitation and falling down the waterfall.
James didn't care if he didn't have anywhere else to go, he just had to run...
I know this chapter probably isn't the best, but I was trying to show how affected James was by the procedure and also killing, the rage and adrnaline wearing off and him seeing what he's done... what he's become...
Next chapter is a timeskip, either 2008 or 2009, then the chapter after that will probably be starting the Young Justice show. Or I might have a few original chapters befopre I get to Young Justice itself, have James encounter Cheshire early, maybe Artemis as well, still working on it.
Leave ideas in the review section.
Also, it seems the view stats are back to normal, though they aren't instantly going to whatever number they should be at after being frozen for so long, so most of my chapters have like 10 or 20 views each. So, if it's possible for you all to re-read my stories and get those views up and running.
Thank you.
