The Set mostly during "Red Rackham's Treasure"
The Professor who doesn't understand "NO"!
The first time the Captain saw that man, he was already furious with a bunch, no, a herd of rabble-rousers supposed to descendents Rackham, all he needed was an inventor who didn't know how to listen to "no". They did NOT have time to see the shark submarine, yet for some reason, Haddock, Tintin and the detectives went to Professor Calculus ' apartment .
"Not bad, what! This gadget...?" the Captain said upon seeing a giant box, his eyes had been attracted by that thing among so many clocks, pipes, hoses, funnels, reagent bottles and test tubes. What kind of crazy person was that?
As he leaned forward, Haddock was sucked into the box, a clothes brushing machine, luckily Tintin ran to help him as soon as he heard the noise. His suit was in tatters and the Professor even dropped a damn bed on the detectives. How unbearable, he didn't even understand a sentence! Okay, everyone left and now they would never see the guy again. That's what Captain Haddock thought until he saw him there, in the port, trying to push that shark again! That's what the Captain thought until he saw him stowaway in one of the boats! Okay, okay... okay. He would have to conform, the teacher would go with them.
But his voice irritated him, his lack of hearing irritated him and most of all: His notorious lack of perception of body language irritated him! Ah, his damn radiesthesia irritated him too! But the old sea wolf had to admit that the Professor's idea of how to rescue Tintin from the bottom of the ocean worked.
In any case, it seemed that the expedition had led to nothing, apart from those beautiful bottles found and apart from one or another object, the small chest had nothing but paper, but not for the scientist, as soon as he laid eyes on it, he paid close attention. During the following days of search, the Professor remained confined in his cabin, analyzing the most readable parchments that were least damaged by time.
"Hang on, thinking about it, we haven't seen Calculus today. Is hey ill?..." said the sailor. What was strange, Haddock was being spared his presence and for a while he couldn't stop thinking about him. It didn't last long, it was true, but it happened. He didn't know it at that moment, but he was about to have him as a brother. Thanks to the deaf professor, his analysis and his invention, Haddock was able to discover that a fabulous castle in the rural part of Brussels belonged to his ancestor and thanks to him, the Captain was able to buy it.
Just imagine: An old, bearded sea captain, with calloused hands and a sore back, now owned a huge, beautiful and peaceful rural property. Yes, Haddock was very happy, he liked and needed a lifestyle that was more like that, it wasn't as simple as a bucolic landscape, it was more luxurious, but equally beautiful. A luxury that he was able to maintain without any problems due to the treasure deposited at the feet of the eagle of Patmos..
The place had three floors, with an incredible green area, a marble staircase that seemed unbreakable and of course, that basement that looked like Capernaum.
None of this would be possible without him. And it wouldn't be possible without the insistence of Tintin either. He owed the older man his luxurious and comfortable life and the younger man his respectable and less depressing life. In gratitude, the man invited Calculus to live with him, Haddock made the same invitation to the reporter, but he took a little longer to accept.
Sometimes the captain liked to look out the window and see the professor growing his roses. "A man of many faces, without a doubt."
Other times he just ignored him when he started talking about his numerous athletic abilities. When Tintin was in the house, Haddock felt that they were all like his ancestor's three sons, if they had stayed together.
With that first meeting, no one would have thought that the captain would be able to become so depressed over the two disappearances of old Calculus and travel halfway around the world with Tintin to find him. "And no doubt you think that I'll let you go alone? No chance! I'm going with you" Or even go to the Moon! But good friends are always together, right!? And everything ends well, when it ends well, right!?
