I do not own GG. Ik just a fan who hated how they did Luke in the final seasons... so here I am making myself happy. Let me know if you enjoy!
"I have to go." Lorelei turned away from the man she wanted, the life she thought she would have. What was the point of all of this? The waiting and waiting, it was never going to happen, this proved it. Whatever excuses Luke made, they would not be good enough. He either wanted to spend his life with her or he wanted her on the sidelines watching their life go by. She didn't want to be a spectator, she wanted to be a player in the game ready for whatever curveballs were sent their way. Ana was right, that sucked too.
She barely made it five steps before a hand latched onto her wrist and spun her around. Lorelei slammed into Lukes body, his strong hands holding her face as he crushed his lips to hers. At first she was stunned, the whirlwind of emotions from the last few minutes had worn her out. However, in the seconds that Luke was kissing her she was able to regain her senses and connect all the dots. She shoved against his chest and he took a step back still holding her face. Lukes face was one of full clarity. That look alone set Lorelei off, pure rage bubbled out of her.
"No, you don't want to marry me right? I proposed, you said yes but you really mean no. You say we can get married later, which really means nev-" Luke didn't wait for her to rush another word out. He tugged on her hand and pulled her towards his truck, opening the passenger door to her. She just stood and stared at him.
"Get in the truck Lorelei." Luke said with a serene look, he nodded his head toward the open seat. The calm expression on his face did nothing to simmer her mood.
"Luke -"
"Lorelei?" He had somehow corralled her in the opening of the door, trapping her in.
"You don't like ultimatums" She said, exasperated by this night already.
"Ultimatums are like Mondays" He leaned in close, eye level with her.
"I love you Lorelei. I told you, this thing you and I are doing? I'm in, I'm all in. I should have taken you away right when you proposed. The way I reacted about April and Ana, I…" He looked at the ground, shaking his head.
"I handled all of it wrong. I told you to be honest with me and didn't do the same." He sighed and looked at her with pleading eyes.
"Lorelei, will you get in the truck?" She stared at him for a short moment. Not saying a word she climbed up into the truck and buckled her seat belt. She didn't look at him as he shut her door, rounded the front of the truck, climbed in and drove off.
They drove, only the radio played, not a word was said between them. It had been a little over an hour, Lorelei made sure to check the clock, it was past 11pm. He never stopped to make a call to the diner. No one knew where they were going or what they were doing. Well she guessed a lot of people probably did know where they were headed, she made such a huge scene in the diner. Still what about Rory? And April too? Shouldn't they tell them?
"Luke?" She gave him a sidelong glance.
"Hmm?" He kept his eyes on the road.
"Do you need to make a phone call?" She bit her lip. A part of her worried about having this conversation.
"I think Ceaser can handle the diner for a few days." Lorelei brushed her hand across the dash. She didn't even think about how long they would be gone.
"I didn't mean to the diner. I meant, well should you call Ana? To warn her?" Luke burst out a laugh.
"To warn her what? That I'm about to marry the woman I've been engaged to? If she wasn't prepared for that then she will just… Need to figure it out. April enjoys having you around and Ana will learn to live with that." Luke reached over grasping Lorelei's hand and bringing it to his lips.
"You and I are what's important right now. We can give everyone else a call when we get there." He laid their hands in her lap and continued looking straight ahead.
Lorelei stayed silent all of 10 minutes before flipping through Luke's CD's to find the perfect soundtrack to their non-Vegas elopement. Accompanied by some painfully awful jokes about getting hitched in Vegas. Their hands never untangling for a moment.
Lorelei didn't realize how tired she was until the sound of her door opening stirred her awake.
"Luke?" She questioned groggily. How had they made it here so fast?
"Shhh. I got us a room and everything squared away for tomorrow okay?" He slid his arms underneath her body, preparing to carry her bridal style into the inn. The action and her sleepy state made her giddy.
"That means you left me in the truck." She insisted, attempting a pouty face but failing quickly as she nuzzled into him.
"Only for a moment. It's not like you'd get far. You can't drive a stick" she kicked her feet rapidly.
"I can too! You know it's not very husbandly to tease you future bride!" He continued to carry her up the stairs until they made it to their door.
"I thought it was a perk?" He grinned at her. It was her favorite form of his face. His scowls were hot too but oh that smile. Perfect with the 5-o clock or whatever clock shadow he was sporting. He opened the door for her to walk through and the room was beautiful. A large open space with white walls and blue accents around the room. She walked forward tracing her hand along the white sheets. The bed faced a large window, curtains pulled back. It was too dark outside to make out anything far but she could tell they had their own balcony space. A beautiful wooden desk sat beneath the window. A small sheet laid on top. She turned to face Luke, tears filling her eyes.
"I really love you Luke." She didn't know if it was the atmosphere or the amorous look in his eyes but she knew she wanted him. Now and forever, the relief in her heart when he pulled her into the truck. She realized now that she must have been in shock the whole ride. All the emotions came crashing down like a broken damn. The fear that they were done had filled her outside the diner but didn't escape until this moment. She could feel her body shake, wave after wave, tears falling down. She could feel Luke's arms wrap around her, his lips brush against her forehead, his thumb rubbing against her neck.
"I'm so sorry." He murmured, lips still pressed against her forehead. She pulled back to see his face. Her heart dropped to the floor at the sight, pure anguish.
"Luke" she started but he shook his head.
"You're all I've wanted for so long. I've wanted to make your life easier, to be the one you rely on, the one you run too. You ran to me Lorelei and I was ready to shut you out. To put you on a back burner and I hate-" Luke closed his eyes taking a moment to breathe. When he opened them they held solid determination.
"I hate that I made you doubt for a second. Our lives are happening together, now, and I will prove everyday that you will never need to doubt again." She smiled at him, the happiness started in her chest and filled every part of her. She kissed him without a doubt in her mind that this man was her forever and always.
"We should get some sleep." Luke whispered as he snuggled in closer to her. Their bare bodies tangled together, Lorelei was drifting as he spoke. They had to be up in a few hours, Lorelei was determined to get up at a decent time to eat and look for something to wear. She had nothing with her other than the clothes had in her back, same with look. Is it really the walk of shame if I'm getting married the same day? The thought stirred her, she shimmed away from Luke grasping at the clock on the stand.
"Luke look!" She twisted to show him the time plastered across the clock. He nodded.
"Yeah we will be dead in the morning?" Her grin confused him and he raised a brow to express his worry and slight concern. Her smile deepened as she placed the clock back on the night stand and burrowed herself under the blanket and into his arms.
"No, we're getting married today." She kissed his chest and placed herself low enough his chin could rest on the top of her head. She could hear the smile in his voice.
"Yes we are."
