Silence finally embraced me, liberating my mind from the ceaseless chatter of responsibilities and obligations. All that remained was a distant, low-pitched ringing as I floated through the vast darkness of the void. It was a peculiar solace, an inexplicable comfort entwined with the fear of teetering too far and meeting oblivion.
The concept of "end" held an odd allure. To simply cease to exist... the thought sent shivers down my non-existent spine. Gazing at myself—well, whatever semblance I had—I resembled a wisp, akin to something out of a game like WoW. No physical form, just a wispy ball emitting faint white light.
Above me, a multitude of white souls streaked across the void, destined for a particular destination. They sliced through the void, reaching a celestial expanse of sunlit clouds. Angels fluttered by intermittently, while not all souls made it there; most struggled and fought before succumbing to the fiery abyss beneath the clouds.
I oscillated between idle observation and a yearning for an end. Then, I stumbled upon an alternative path. If one peered down into the abyss... well, it almost seemed to grin back. A black hole lay far below, where souls entered the void. And there, I was slowly being drawn. My days of not progressing towards the light had led me here.
A laugh escaped me, and my light momentarily intensified before I channeled my inner energy, plunging into the dark abyss. 'Darkness and despair had always been my companions, so why not now?' were my final musings before succumbing to sleep.
The sensation of awakening made me sigh. I found myself amidst a celestial court, embroiled in heated debates among angels, fallen ones, and demons. "They are rightfully ours; their positive karma deems their place in heaven!" exclaimed a golden-haired female angel, an appearance worthy of TikTok fame. My mind wandered, finding a strange fascination with each being present, especially the demonesses emitting gothic vibes I adored.
"He didn't land in heaven... nor in hell. Truth be told, he's done neither, and hell would welcome another soul gladly," mused Lucifer, excitement brewing within, hinting at potential schemes from ancient lore. A towering figure, whom I perceived as Michael, leader of the angels, vehemently opposed Lucifer's claim. The celestial beings, far from their perceived gentleness, engaged in a raucous debate, attempting to sway my choice with promises of something better.
Finally, the ethereal courtroom quaked, collapsing into the familiar darkness that had comforted me. I would've grinned, if I could, as I surrendered to slumber once more.
"Wait, you're saying I could enter the world of the Overlord anime? As the skeletal leader of the Tomb of Nazarick?" Excitement coursed through me, a rarity stirring such intense emotions. "Certainly, my dear... if that's your desire," whispered a void-shaped woman. "To transport the tomb and its NPCs to the new realm is hardly a challenge... for one of my lineage." Her last words lingered faintly, scarcely audible. "Choose: to enter the world at level 100, as you've spoken of... Or..." Her voice grew animated. "I'll grant you the tomb, NPCs, and all, weakened considerably, while you, my dear, start anew at level 1, not human... hmm."
The seductive allure vanished as she tilted her head, playfully patting my soul, an embrace of an all-encompassing energy. A book materialized in her hand—pages silently flipped within the D&D 5e Book of Races and Monsters.
"I'll take the latter, but erase the line about Albedo not being a slut, please." The void woman, almost goddess-like, smirked knowingly. "Hmm, alright."
A screen appeared: [Fallen Angel] - Once immune to many conditions, now fallen, with waning powers yet retaining former strengths. Advantage on saving throws against charm and fear.
"Ugh, I can't fathom making you human, succumbing to old age or the flu," she mused, her disapproval softening into a laugh. The last sensation—a fleeting kiss on my head—before darkness enveloped everything.
"Farewell, my child," Lilith, the goddess of death, watched the soul depart, a portal opening behind her. She sighed as she turned, confronting accusations of defying celestial decrees.
