Chapter 22 Confrontations

Leaving Jasper's recovery room, I made my way to the waiting room where his anxious family awaited news on his surgery. Their worried expressions greeted me as I entered, and I raised my hands to calm them down.

"Hey, everyone," I reassured, projecting a calm demeanor. "No need to worry. Everything went well."

Jasper's Dad looked at me with concern. "Edward, what's going on?"

I nodded, offering him a reassuring smile that instantly eased his worry.

Taking a deep breath, I began speaking in a steady and caring tone. "Jasper's surgery was a success. We addressed the torsion problem and took care of other concerns as well. We caught it in time, and we're optimistic about his recovery."

His mom wiped away tears of relief and spoke with gratitude. "Thank goodness! Can we see him?"

With empathy, I nodded. "Of course. Once he's settled in the recovery room, you'll be able to visit him. We'll provide you with all the necessary details about when and what precautions to take."

Rosie, visibly relieved, squeezed her mom's hand. "I'm so glad he's going to be okay, Edward. I was so scared."

Her mom smiled softly, patting Rosie's hand. "We all were."

"Thank you, Edward," Uncle Michael chimed in. "I appreciate you keeping us informed and being there for Jasper. I just want all of this to be over for him, you know? He's a tough kid having to deal with all of this unnecessary bullshit. I know he's tired."

Agreeing, I nodded, my gaze meeting his. "Seeing him go through such pain has deeply affected me too. I want nothing more than to support him on his journey to heal and find happiness again. He's truly resilient. He was scared when we took him back, but I managed to keep him calm and guide him through it. He's quite amazing."

Feeling myself blush again, I tried to smile through it. I couldn't help it. Exhausted and sleepy as I was, being by Jazz's side throughout this ordeal brought us closer. I never left him during the surgery.

"Oh, here we go again with all the damn blushing," Kevin teased, his smile widening. I dropped my head, laughing.

Shaking my head at his playful antics, I whispered, "Oh, man."

The others joined in the laughter, some offering their own remarks. "Well, don't you all start teasing him," Papa interjected, shaking my hand. "Thank you so much, Edward, for taking care of my grandson. Don't let these folks get on your nerves with their silliness today."

I chuckled and reciprocated his handshake. "No problem, Mr. Brenn. It was my pleasure. I'll keep you all updated on Jasper's progress. If you have any questions or need support, don't hesitate to reach out. I'm here for you."

Kevin pointed at me, his smile filled with gratitude. He gently tapped his chest with his fist and pointed it at me, a gesture symbolizing deep appreciation and love. Knowing Jasper and Kevin's close bond, I understood that their friendship was like that of brothers.

"Thanks, man," he expressed, to which I smiled and nodded, a mutual understanding passing between us. "You're alright with me."

I nodded in understanding, reciprocating his sentiment. It seemed he was giving his unofficial approval for me and Jasper to pursue a friendship.

As everyone took their seats, Jasper's dad approached me, a mix of relief and concern in his voice. "So, everything went smoothly?"

"Yes, Sir, the surgery was a success," I informed him. "We resolved the testicular torsion and handled a couple of minor issues that arose, including removing some adhesions. These won't significantly affect Jasper's recovery process."

"And what about his future prospects?" he asked, clearly concerned about Jasper's potential to father children.

"The outlook is positive for a complete recovery. Jasper will be under the care of his urologist post-discharge for ongoing monitoring. As it stands, his blood flow is strong and everything looks good. The urologist will conduct detailed fertility assessments to check for quality and function, but we're optimistic. With time and healing, Jasper should be able to have children, if he so chooses—potentially with that same wild blonde curly hair."

His Dad shook his head and smiled. "If thats what he wants, I want that for him too. Oh and they could have brown hair like yours." He gave me a wink, and I could feel my cheeks flush to the deepest shades of maroon or burgundy.

I chuckled softly, the warmth in my eyes surely was matching the sudden heat in my cheeks.

"Well, the future has a way of surprising us," I replied with a gentle tone, acknowledging his playful hint about me and Jasper's mutual affection. "As long as Jasper's happy, that's what matters most."

My response, laced with a hint of shared hope, left room for all the unspoken possibilities between me and Jasper.

"Whatever color hair his children have, I'm sure they'll be as remarkable as their father." There was a depth in my gaze, a silent promise of support and perhaps something more, a testament to the depth of my developing feelings for Jasper. I held the his father's gaze for a moment, an unspoken understanding passing between us before I turned back to my professional role, the flush on my cheeks the only sign of my heartfelt emotions.

"Don't worry Mr. Whitlock. Everything will work out as it should. Jasper is in good hands."

We smiled at each other. He nodded in understanding.

"Thank you, Edward. I got it. Are there any risks or complications we should know about moving forward?"

I nodded, understanding his need for information. "Yeah, even though the surgery went smoothly, there are still potential risks and complications during the recovery. Things like infection, bleeding, and swelling can happen, but we have ways to manage them effectively. We'll keep a close eye on Jasper and provide any necessary treatments or interventions to make sure he recovers well."

He nodded, appreciating my honesty. "Thanks for explaining, Edward. We trust you and your team to take good care of our Jazz."

I smiled warmly, grateful for the trust they had in me. "Of course. We're here for Jasper's well-being, and we'll do everything we can to support his recovery."

With a thankful nod, Mr. Whitlock returned to his seat, a mix of relief and worry still lingering in the air.

I prepared to leave the waiting room and head back to Jasper. There was no door separating the room from the hallway. Just as I was about to walk out, I glanced towards the entrance of the waiting room and witnessed the medical staff pushing a frail gentleman into the hallway. His bedding had green labels, indicating he was from the green tower, and there was an ICU tag as well. Despite the bruises on his face and bandages on his nose, arm and shoulders, he appeared fully alert and was engaged in conversation with his nurse. Due to the overwhelming number of patients that day, he had to wait in the hallway until a room became available for him. While I wasn't aware of the specifics of his surgery, it seemed to be non-life-threatening. Before I could exit past him, I glanced his hospital ID bracelet. It read 'Hale, James T.'

Jasper's husband!

Before I could completely process what I had just seen, Jasper's family arrived at the door and noticed him in the hallway. The tension in the air immediately thickened, knowing the unresolved conflicts that lingered between him and Jasper's family.

Jasper's father and uncle still harbored anger and resentment towards him for what he had done to their beloved prince. They exchanged heated glances, and James immediately adopted a defensive stance. The atmosphere grew heavy with unspoken emotions, and I sensed that a storm was brewing.

"Michael! Jasper Peter!" their father immediately intervened, stepping towards them and pushing them back a couple of steps into the waiting room. "We are not doing this here today! This is neither the time nor the place for this. Please, get it together."

"Damn it, Dad! Fuck this bitch!" Jasper's father raised his voice, his anger evident.

"Jip is right, Dad. Nobody gives a damn about his sorry puss ass!" Jasper's uncle tried to move past his father but was stopped by his gentle yet strong hand.

Their father stood tall in front of them, unwavering. "I meant what I said, boys. That's enough. Now, I told you to calm down, and I meant it. The man is already on a stretcher. We will handle this differently from now on. You are already in enough trouble as it is. Now, stand down!"

Both of them were furious, their anger undeterred.

"I suggest you take his advice," James seethed. "You're already going to rot in jail. Besides, no matter what, Jasper will still be with me."

They tried to push past their father again, but he was joined by their wives and grandmother, who blocked their paths. A string of obscenities was exchanged in the heat of the moment.

Jasper's Dad morphed and didn't give a single damn. I stood by quietly. "Dad, I need you to understand something. What James did to my son, it's unforgivable. All I want to do now is fuck him up again and finish what we started. This bitch gone get the fuck up out my son's life one way or the other! I don't give a fuck about going to no damn jail, Dad!"

"Sweetheart you need to calm down." His wife took his elbows in her hands. He tried to shake free but she held on tightly. He was fuming.

"Lizzie, this mother fucker will die if he touches one hair on Jazz and you gone be coming to see my ass in prison! Man fuck him and this shit!" He was thirty-eight hot…blood past boiling! As a physician I knew his blood pressure was soaring right then. This was about I get out of hand.

"Yeah whatever you stupid hillbilly. I wish you might try." James goaded. His nurses tried to intervene by asking him to calm down. "I might be in here now but I swear when I get out I will stalk Jasper down like a dog and lap him over. He isn't going anywhere but to my house."

"James you out yo damn head!" Kevin interjected. "You all kinds of stupid!"

James laughed. "Oh you can come too, Kevin! Since you are such a cutie, I forgive you. There's room in our home and bed for you too. No need to be jealous!"

Kevin ignored him, surprisingly.

Okay now James was making me mad. This man was crazy.

I listened attentively, acknowledging the depth of their emotions. I raised my hands to calm them and spoke in an even collected tone. "Guys, trust that I understand your anger and the need to protect Jasper. His safety is paramount. Please let me handle this." I briefly wondered if I should call security.

They continued their tense exchange for a long while. I couldn't help but feel a surge of anger rise within me. James' arrogant and menacing words struck a nerve. The thought of him threatening Jasper and boasting about his intentions infuriated me. I took a step forward, my voice filled with a simmering anger.

"Enough!" I exclaimed, my tone commanding attention. Everyone in the room stopped talking and stared at me. The family was completed surprised that I had somehow come outside of my docile shell.

"Let me remind everyone here that you are either a patient and a guest in this hospital. You will all treat patients, families or visitors of patients, and staff with respect or you will be asked to leave." I couldn't just address James and we not the family because truthfully they were being just as disrespectful as he was even though they were justified.

"Mr. Hale, you are way out of line. You will no longer threaten or cause further harm to Jasper, especially not here! Now by law we are required to treat you, but after that you will be relocated elsewhere if this behavior continues!"

Jasper's family remained stunned by my boldness and professionalism. My words hung in the air, a clear warning to James. I could see a glimmer of fear in his eyes, but he quickly masked it with defiance.

"And who the hell are you?" he spat, his voice dripping with venom.

"I'm one of his attending student physicians ," I replied firmly. "But what you need to know is that it is my responsibility while he's here and a patient of mine to protect him. Now what happened before he got in that treatment bed has nothing to do with me. But it has everything to do with him! And from the time he got in it, he was no longer alone in this anymore, as far as I'm concerned. You will not disregard him in any way while he's here…husband or not!"

James sneered, attempting to provoke me further. "Little boy, you have no idea what I'm capable of."

"Oh I know, but frankly I do not care. You don't get the option any longer to perpetuate abuse on him. Now eventually you will be done here with your medical care and how ever this family and Jasper chooses to pursue justice for what you've done to him is their business. And again I don't have a dog in that fight. But I promise you, my dog and my fight will be where they need to be to ensure you won't be able to harm him anymore."

I crossed my arms, his expression serious as I moved closer to his bed. "I have heard his family's concerns, and I respect their roles as Jasper's protector. However, it is clear that you all have chosen to disregard legal and nonviolent means of interacting with Jasper or handling this situation. So we will let the law take its course, and deal with this. Understand it will not be handled in this hospital!"

"Little boy, do you even have a license to practice? I will have you fired." It had been at least thirty or forty minutes since this altercation began. By this time some security was rushing towards us with other attending physicians and nursing staff.

Who called them?

Dr. Williams, my supervisor was one of them.

Who called him?

I was not deterred by his presence but stood my ground. They heard the entire exchange. James looked at them.

"Why are you here kid harassing me and butting into my business? You are violating my rights! Why is it taking so long for me to be taken into surgery?"

"Edward, what's going on?" Dr. Williams asked. I briefly brought him up to speed. He nodded in understanding.

Though his body was still weak and battered, James was demanding to see his husband.

"Jasper is still my legal husband and I demand to see him and know what's going on with him!"

"He has chosen not to see you or interact with you while he is a patient here." Dr. Williams told him bluntly. "I specifically asked him myself. We will respect his request."

"I want to see my husband! If he's in surgery or recovery I demand to know what's going on! If I see him, he will change his mind! You idiots are convincing him that he doesn't want to see or be with me!"

Jasper's family, fueled by their love and protection for him, stood tall, their resolve unwavering. They knew that James was not at all sorry for the pain he had caused, and they were determined to shield Jasper from any further harm. The anger in the room intensified again, but I raised my hand towards the family. They really needed to let us handle this because they were ready to kill this man. Literally.

James, with frustration and desperation evident in his eyes, clenched his fists, his voice trembling with anger. "He's my husband, and I will take him. I won't let any of you stand in my way."

Michael, his voice seething with rage, stepped forward, but I moved to block him. He acquiesced to my position in front of him.

Rosie, her voice filled with determination, joined her uncle, standing shoulder to shoulder him. "Jasper is not a possession for you to claim. He is a person, and you can go straight to hell." She said.

He rolled his eyes and waved her off. "You're not even pretty. And you sound dumb when you open your trap. Shut the fuck up bitch."

"But I'm not the pathetic bitch who got his ass whipped!" She spat back. "You can throw Jazz around but can't fight with a damn! You're the bitch!"

Jasper's Dad tried to charge him but I blocked him again. "Mr. Whitlock please let us handle this." I pleaded. "Please."

He grunted. "Edward, I swear."

"Mr. Hale, you need to understand that your actions have consequences. Threatening Jasper's and his family will only make things worse for you." Dr. Williams interjected. I was grateful he was intervening but I felt nervous that he would think I couldn't handle this situation appropriately. I was trying my best to remain professional. "What are we waiting on?" He asked the staff. They explained that his room was not ready yet and he was holding in the hall until an available space opened up.

Lizzie spoke up, her voice firm yet tinged with sadness. "You are not the person Jasper needs in his life anymore. He deserves someone who will cherish and protect him, not someone who inflicts pain."

James, his face contorted with rage, raised his voice, his threats echoing through the room. "I should have stuffed your hole when I had the chance you country cunt!" He charged back at Jasper's mother. Now truthfully that was very inappropriate. "Maybe that would have taught you to stay out of grown adults' business! If I can't have him, none of you will. I've already told him that he's going one of two places…either underneath me while I fuck him into the man you failed to raise or in a dark wet hole. Either way he's not going in your house."

Michael and Jasper's father lost it when he made that threat against Lizzie. They both tried to rush James on his bed which caused us to be pushed outwards away from him. Security immediately intervened. They had been joined by two more men and they were able to block them from successfully getting to James. They really consumed by fury, their eyes shifting to onyx. If it were possible they would end this man's life today.

Everyone gasped. I saw red. His threats against Jasper pissed me off. I was trying to hold onto my last shred of professionalism but it was slipping away fast.

Dr. Williams sensed my anger and put a calming hand on my shoulder and He squeeze my arm gently and I relaxed.

He turned to the attending staff, poised and calm, and took control of the situation. "Please ensure that Mr. Hale proceeds safely to his surgery location. In the meanwhile, I will speak with admin regarding having him removed and possibly other actions to pursue while he recovers. "We're done here." His voice was fierce but professional.

"Mr. Hale our staff will uphold their ethical obligations to you. You will be treated with the respect any human deserves. However you will no longer be allowed to make threats or intimidate Jasper or anyone else. Jasper can decide how he wants to continue to interact with you from this point on." I told him boldly. Dr. Williams agreed with me.

As the room remained still, filled with tension and the weight of their emotions, Jasper's family knew I was fed up. They were not the only ones who could stand up for Jasper, protect him from further harm, and ensure that justice is served.

"Who do you think you are kid?" James asked. "You think you can just waltz in here, and tell me what to do? You're delusional, kid," James spat, his eyes blazing with fury.

"Jasper is my damn husband!" James spat, his voice strained. "And why do you look familiar?"

I had no clue and frankly didn't care. Additional security personnel rushed to the area, their presence intended to restore order and prevent any further escalation.

"Edward, what's going on?" Scott Bowen, head officer asked.

"Hi Scott." I shook his extended hand. He and I always chatted during these long shifts. "Mr. Hale here is waiting for his spot in surgery." I gave him a brief summary of what had transpired and the threats against his husband.

"These idiots, including this wanna be punk doctor, are harassing me." James, his voice was trembling with frustration. "My husband just had surgery and they won't let me see him. Jasper is my husband and I love him! I have a right to see him! They are violating my rights!"

"You're the one who put him in there!" Kevin interrupted. "You out yo damn mind!"

Uncle Michael, his voice filled with righteous anger, interjected, "James you lost him the moment you put your lil sensitive ass hands on him. Jazz is your husband on paper and that's bout to be corrected real soon. You don't love that kid! You might as well give that shit up. You ain't gettin' no where near him."

"Jasper ain't getting no damn divorce from me." He seethed. "Hell will freeze first!"

"Well good cause you gone freeze with it!Man, your sorry ass ain't shit." Jasper father was still incensed. "I guess that ass whipping wasn't enough for you last night! I see you gone have to be put down!"

"And you all are telling me I can't threaten them. Yet you allow them to threaten me! I know my damn rights! I'm going to sue the shit out of this damn hospital and have you two fired!" He yelled at me and my supervisor.

I was torn between my professional duty and my personal feelings, so I continued to approach the scene cautiously. I spoke softly, my voice filled with disgust for this man but more importantly with a greater desire to maintain the dignity of my profession. "Scott, This is a DV situation and it's my opinion that Mr. Hale's presence will bring my patient, his husband, harm. My patient has signed paperwork barring contact or release of info to Mr. Hale. He is afraid for his personal safety and he is recovering from surgery. Mr. Hale should be kept in surgical quarters and recovery away from his spouse. It's time to allow Jasper to heal. At this point legal actions may need to be pursued."

Scott nodded and moved to intervene and staff began to push James away from us, but he resisted.

"Those two tried to kill me. They should be in jail!"

Jasper's father and Uncle Michael stood their ground, their determination unyielding. They refused to be silenced or intimidated, their love and protection for Jasper fueling their resolve.

My voice was calm yet filled with a sense of urgency, addressed his father and uncle. "We must focus on supporting Jasper's healing process, both physically and emotionally. Let the legal system handle James. It's time to prioritize Jasper's well-being."

"You're right, Edward. But this mofo makes my ass itch." His Dad said.

"That makes two of us." James said. "I don't like you either. If it weren't for the fact that your son is so nice and tight, I would have zero thoughts of any of you."

"Man, fuck you!" His Dad said. Dr. Williams was not accustomed to this behavior as I was from Jasper's family. He was visibly taken aback. "Nasty ass bitch! You don't love Jazz. You sick bastard. You just want to use that boy."

As the confrontation tried to escalate again, James's demeanor took a dark turn. He abandoned his claims of the 'loving husband' and instead revealed his possessive and controlling side.

With a sinister smile, James's voice dripped with venom. "Love? Love is irrelevant now. You all think you can keep Jasper from me? He belongs to me, and you are all kinds of stupid if you think you he's staying here with you!"

"Jasper ain't your possession, bitch! He ain't no damn toy! Fuck outta here with that bullshit!" Michael tried once again to get to him but was blocked.

Jasper's grandfather spoke up. "James, your possessiveness is unhealthy and dangerous. Jasper deserves to be free from your control. It's time to let him go."

Lizzie's voice, firm yet filled with compassion, echoed my sentiment. "We will fight for Jasper's freedom, for his right to live without fear. Your attempts to control him will not succeed."

James disagreed and showed his possessive side even more, "Jasper is mine, and no one, especially not you, will take him away from me. He's better off with me, and I'll make sure he understands that."

Uncle Michael, his voice resolute, added, "I want you to fuck around and find out James. Please…fuck around and find out."

"Oh yeah cause the minute you step near or in my yard you're gone!" His father said directly.

"Whatever!" James responded confrontationally, saying, "Try it and see what happens. Jasper is mine, and I'll make sure he stays with me, no matter what anyone says or does. Jasper ain't getting no damn divorce!" He threatened. "And where is my car?"

"Don't worry about it. You ain't gone need it where you're going. That piece of metal gone be sold and Jasper gone walk away with every penny of what comes out of it!" His father promised.

"Over my dead body!" He said. "You better not touch my car! Jasper isn't entitled to shit!"

"If everyone would move out the way, we can gone and have a dead body for him so he can get the car and his life back!" Uncle Michael was fearless. "Fuck you stupid ass hoe. You ain't nothing but a wet limp dick pussy. If I was a gay man, I wouldn't let you suck my d…"

I heard Dr. Williams say 'Wow.' Admittedly I was floored too.

"Michael!" Papa interjected. "Enough, son. I get that you are itching for this, but how does this help Jazz, son? Son, please control yourself. That's uncalled for."

He rolled his eyes at his Dad and gave him a nasty look.

"Don't you be looking at me like that Michael. I said calm down, son. That's what you need to do. You're doing too much."

Michael scowled at him. I swear Papa reminded me of the one and only…Carlisle Cullen…my Dad! Their personalities were very similar.

Michael took a deep breath and acknowledged his father's concerns. He said, "I hear you, Dad. I just want to make things right for Jazz."

His father responded by reaffirming his support for Michael while emphasizing the importance of handling the situation calmly.

"I know you want vengeance, Michael, but we have got work on this together, and we need to keep a level head. We'll find a way to make things right for Jazz, but it has to be done with composure."

Admittedly I was in awe of the fight and support that Michael showed for Jasper and he wasn't even his son. I couldn't think of an uncle who would fight this hard for me.

Michael shook his head. "What he did to that kid, Dad…"He was becoming emotional. "It makes me sick and all I want to do is fuck him up all over again!"

"I understand, Michael, but the real help comes when we can get Jazz what he rightfully deserves and help him overcome this. Killing James does nothing. In fact, that is the easy way out for him. Let justice stand, son. That's the only way Jazz wins."

The security personnel and hospital staff were discussing that the room was not quite ready to move him into. They approached us with an authoritative demeanor.

Scott addressed Michael. "Sir, I understand your concern and desire to protect your family, but we must maintain a peaceful environment in the hospital. I kindly request that you refrain from any further confrontations."

Dr. Williams responded positively by acknowledging the concern for Jasper's well-being and emphasizing the importance of supporting Jasper's freedom and safety.

"I appreciate everyone's commitment to Jasper's well-being. It's clear that we all want what's best for him." He offered.

"Not all of us!" Kevin piped. "James wants to hurt him and treat him like filthy trash."

Dr. Williams addressed the men by saying, "Gentlemen, I understand your emotions are running high, but let's focus on ensuring Jasper's well-being. He needs our support and understanding. Let's work together to ensure his safety and freedom."

"Man, fuck James!" They said. "We ain't working shit with his sorry ass!"

Dr. Williams responded by reiterating the importance of unity and understanding in this situation. "As I stated, I understand tensions are high, but it's crucial that we come together for Jasper's sake. Let's find common ground and work towards ensuring his well-being and safety."

"Man, Doc we respect you, but fuck this bastard. All we want to hear now is him coding! We are sick and tired of this bitch!" Michael stated.

Dr. Williams offered a few suggestions for resolution.

"Gentlemen, I propose we find a way to communicate calmly and rationally, putting Jasper's well-being at the forefront of our discussions. Let's consider seeking a professional mediator to help us navigate these complex emotions and find a constructive way forward for Jasper's benefit. If we cannot engage in civil and respectful dialogue, I will have no choice but to ask each of you to leave the hospital until emotions have cooled, so we can prioritize Jasper's care and well-being."

I nodded. "I agree with Dr. Williams. This approach emphasizes the need for constructive communication and highlights the priority of Jasper's well-being while setting clear boundaries for behavior within the hospital."

James responded with defiance, saying, "I don't need a mediator. Jasper belongs to me, and I won't let anyone stand in my way. I'll do whatever it takes to keep him with me."

Another member of the security team turned his attention to James, his voice stern. "Sir, I must insist that you calm down and refrain from making any further threats or disruptions."

"See what we're saying, Doc? This fucker has gotta go!" Michael said.

"He's a bitch!" Dad said. "And I'm so done with his ass!"

"Lord these boys of mine won't do." Papa said swiping his forehead. "Boys please settle down."

As the security personnel worked to restore order and calm everyone down, Jasper's mom and Uncle Michael's wife approached their respective husbands, attempting to calm their fierce emotions.

Jasper's mother, her voice filled with concern, gently placed a hand on her husband's arm. "Sweetheart, I understand your anger, but let the legal system handle James, and let us focus on supporting our son."

He looked lovingly at her, pain in his eyes. "I love my son, Lizzie. Jasper and Rosie are my heart. And I mean every word I say. I'm gone bust his ass wide open 'bout my damn kid, Lizzie!"

With her voice filled with compassion, she embraced him, offering him comfort. "I understand Jay, but you need to calm down. We will do everything in our power to protect Jasper. Let's stay strong for him and rely on the legal system to bring justice. We have to stay focused on you and Michael's fight as well as Jazz.' We can't get caught up like this."

Meanwhile, Uncle Michael's wife approached her husband as well, her voice calm and soothing. She had already sent her minor children along with their teenage brothers to another waiting room down the hall, so that they would not be privy to this. She had been going back-and-forth checking on them the entire time I was there.

"Mikey, baby we talked about this, and you promised me that you would stay in control. We are all angry, but we need to find a way to channel it constructively. Let's trust the legal process to hold James accountable."

Uncle Michael, his anger still smoldering, struggled to control his emotions. "Bae, so help me God. One move towards any of y'all and that bullet ain't gone miss. The next one has his name on it!"

His wife, her voice filled with empathy, held his arms and gently massaged him. He received her love and efforts. "I know it's hard, but we have to do this the right way now."

As Uncle Michael's anger continued to subside, he struggled to contain his emotions. James, taking advantage of the situation, continued to provoke and taunt him, further fueling his rage. Meanwhile, Jasper's Dad stood by Uncle Michael's side, lending his support and unwavering determination for justice.

"Mickey we should have finished this fool. I swear we fucked that one up!"

"Damn sure did!" He agreed. "Damn!"

"Stop it y'all!" Their wives said. "This is way beyond helping Jazz. Y'all are acting like James with all of this! Even Jasper doesn't want this! Y'all need to get it together!"

Seeing the escalating tension, Kevin, aware of his father's and uncle's volatile state, intervened to deescalate the situation. He approached his father cautiously, his voice filled with concern and love.

"Dad, leave this fool alone. He's so stupid." He gently placed a hand on his shoulder. "James ain't bout nothing. He will get his."

Michael, his anger still visible in his eyes, turned to face James, his voice laced with a newfound resolve. "Know this: I've seen the video from Amy's yard. You're going to jail ass wipe!"

James, momentarily taken aback by Uncle Michael's sudden surge of confidence, faltered in his provocations. The realization that evidence was stacked against him visibly shook him, his bravado waning.

"We saw what you did to Jasper out there in that yard." He pointed defiantly at James. "You gone burn bitch."

James seemed worried about that video. He probably was so enraged that day that he never even considered that there were cameras recording him in Jasper's neighborhood.

"Make no mistake you sick bastard. Whatever life you think you are going to continue to have with my son ain't gone happen buddy. Them dogs ain't gone hunt boss. And just so you know, Jasper doesn't need your consent to get a divorce. Your ass gone get served those papers and Jazz will…understand this….he will get everything he has coming to him." His Dad told him. I knew he was an attorney and he'd already told me he was well versed in the law.

"Oh and that job you think you're running…" Michael told him. James eyes widened at the revelation that Michael knew about his work. "…oh trust me bruh…I been checked your game. I know all about your lil weak ass job. I did some homework on your lil soft ass. You work for one of my sister agencies, and I'm well acquainted with them. Let's just say your ass no longer has a job. And you will be blackballed in Forks and Seattle and anywhere in a two hunnid mile radius…periodt! I told you. You fucked with the wrong family and you definitely fucked with the wrong kid! Jazz has family that loves him! He ain't your damn trash! He ain't some reject that don't nobody give a damn about! Jazz is ours and we will fuck you up 'bout him! That boy loved you and you took advantage of his good heart and beat on him and did all kinds of nasty shit to him. After what I saw in that video, you gone pay to the highest extent of where we and the law can take you! I hope they put your twisted, jacked up, slut licking ass in the worst prison they can find! You are one mo' sick piece of shit!"

James face told the story he was desperately trying to hide. Michael had threatened his livelihood and Jasper's dad had pretty much laid down the law to him. James knew he was going to lose this battle.

"You son of a bitch!" He spat. "How dare you interfere with my job! Our marriage is between me and Jasper! You ain't got shit to do with our business!"

Michael crossed his arms defiantly over his chest. "Jasper is my business and when you hurt him you hurt me! Oh just so you know, your pink slip will be delivered to you along with those divorce papers… real soon."

"They need me there. They won't fire me. You're lying."

"Keep believing that boss. Keep right on believing that. Believe what the fuck you want to bitch. But you done fucked up big time boss! Them folks at your job don't need you. You ain't shit to them! More importantly…here's what you need to know. Two words was all it took…fire him! And just like that you're unemployed. Stupid abusive bastard. Now you can go lay up in your mama's house or better yet, with that lap ass ball of cotton candy you been fucking around with behind Jazz back!"

James' eyes widened. With his anger rising, James shot back, "You think you've got it all figured out, huh? You think this is it for me? No. I'll bounce back; I always do. And as for my job, we'll see about that. This isn't over." James, anger flaring in his eyes, dismissively retorted, "My personal life is just that—personal. It doesn't concern you or anyone else. I'll handle my affairs without your judgment. You have no clue!"

"Oh yeah we do, boss! And Edmonds and Associates are minus one Ass…you…oh and don't worry. They saw that damn video. I've been knowing them cats over there for years. You are so low on that pole over there. You were fired instantly."

James' face looked like it would explode.

"Mr. Hale's bed is ready." The surgical team announce.

"It's about damn time!" Jasper's family said. Jaspers family were full of satisfaction of James' reaction to Michael's revelation. As the staff turned James to wheel him into his room with security in tow, the commotion settled a little.

I turned to see the door of the surgical unit opening. Jasper was awake when I had left him to come give his family an update. His recovery room was finally ready. This hospital was extremely crowded today, and people were having to wait for long periods time for a room. We all smiled in relief as we saw Jasper being pushed on a stretcher into the hallway.

I immediately rushed to his side, offering support and comfort. His family's genuine joy and connection were evident as they joined around him. James was seething still from the revelation that he was fired from his job.

As James's gaze met Jasper's, his eyes filled with resentment and possessiveness. Jasper sensed the tension and James's emotions, and instantly cowered under his covers. I stood firmly by his side as did his family. He looked confused about what could possibly be happening and as if he was wondering why James was having surgery.

"Jasper, why are you avoiding me? Why can't we spend time together? Is this really where we're at? You promised we'd go home together, but now I can't even know how you're doing? What kind of husband are you?"

Jasper glanced around, resting his head on the pillow. I felt his hand grip mine, and his angry husband noticed. Tears streamed down his face as each cruel word from James pierced his already wounded and weary heart. With every hurtful remark, I could see Jasper's heart breaking.

Seeing Jasper's tears, my protective instincts kicked in, and I enveloped his hand in mine, offering comfort and support. My touch was gentle and reassuring, a stark contrast to the deceit and betrayal inflicted upon Jasper by James.

When James noticed, he became furious.

"The fuck you doing?" He asked me. "Jasper what the hell is going on?" He pointed to me. I didn't budge. "Are you serious?"

Jasper shook his head and started to explain but his Dad stopped him. "Jazz you don't owe this mother fucker no explanation. It ain't none of his damn business!"

"Like hell it isn't," James seethed. The hospital staff tried to move him away, but he vehemently protested, causing them to freeze. "Jasper, you're my damn husband!"

"Ja, Edward is my doctor," Jasper weakly replied.

James's voice dripped with venom. "You're just betraying me like this?"

As the staff prepared to separate the two, he requested more time. Their beds were pushed into an adjacent breezeway due to the commotion.

"Ja, I haven't done anything."

"Jasper fuck James." His Uncle said. "It ain't his business to give a damn who you with. This bitch is really on my damn nerves!"

I shook my head, finding this guy to be a lunatic. He was actually sitting there, accusing Jasper of cheating and having a lover. Pathetic. I also noted that Dr. William's was also noticing my interaction with Jasper at this point. I'm sure like my Dad, he was very interested in my ability to remain professional.

"Jasper, I expected better from you," James guilt-tripped him. "How low can you go?"

Jasper looked at him with pure anger. "James, you should probably call Kent back. He's been trying to reach you about your trip to Aspen."

James was taken aback. Checkmate! He had been lying there, pathetically accusing sweet Jasper of infidelity, while he was the guilty one.

Not missing an opportunity to jab Jasper he went for the jugular. "He's everything you could never be for me, Jasper. And just so you know he actually knows what he's doing in bed. I don't have to babysit him. And just so you know every where your mouth has been he was there too. And you've basically slept with him too. It's your fault! If you were a decent husband none of it wouldn't have happened. But don't worry. He's clean. I didn't bring anything home to you. But maybe some leftovers for you to clean up!"

Jasper remained calm and closed his eyes which shed rapidly falling tears of heartbreak. I saw red! Professionalism or ethics be damn, I was angry!

"Okay that's it." I said to the staff." We're done here. Please take these guys to their rooms." Dr. Williams eyed me and watched my reactions. I ignored him. At this point I no longer cared!

Jasper's Dad tried to step towards James but was stopped by security. He shook loose from them and stared violently at James.

"You are so fired." James threatened me. "So you want my husband? You're supposed to be his doctor but you want to be with him?"

I ignored him and turned to the staff again. "It's time for Mr. Hale to be taken to his room."

I had to pull it together before I lost my mind and my job in this hospital today. I felt like punching his ass into a coma he would never recover from.

James smirked. "You can't control me..none of you can. I've always had power over Jasper, and I always will."

I was angry yet composed . "No, Mr. Hale. Your power over Jasper ends now. He has tolerated your abusive behavior for far too long. You won't continue to hurt him. At least not in my presence."

Jasper started crying. "Edward..."

"Jasper, don't cry. I'm right here for you. And I will stay by your side. You're okay. We're taking you to your room now." I told him. "I am fed up with this foolishness. This is completely unacceptable and will not be tolerated."

"You think you're with Jazz? You want to be with my husband? You are a dead man! As soon as I get out of here! You better watch your back you little punk! I'm going to gun you down in the parking lot."He was so angry he wasn't even thinking about the shit he was talking himself into. "You running things, big guy? You're just his physician! You are way out of bounds stepping into our business!" James seethed. Dr. Williams listened intently. Perhaps I would be out of residency after this but I needed to stand up for what I felt was right.

"Yes, Mr. Hale, you're right. I am his physician, and I have a duty to protect his well-being. But I also have a duty to ensure that he is treated with dignity and respect. And from what I've seen and heard from you, you are being very disrespectful to him. And you don't get to do that here. So you are being dismissed. And if you think that I'm being unprofessional that's okay. But you won't treat him any kind of way around me."

Jasper's Dad stepped beside me. "Edward, thank you for standing up for my son. We're all tired sick of this bastard. And don't worry about those threats he just made. He's a pussy. He ain't gone do a mother fucking thing. And besides he's gone get served for that one too!"

I nodded.

"You think you can protect Jasper from me, Edward? I can't stand young punks like you. You think you can just rush in a save him. Take over our bed?"

Jasper shook his head as if he was used to this possessive bullshit. He sighed heavily. He was so over it.

I yawned. Partly because I had been up all night and mostly because I was tired of him too.

"Mr. Hale allow me to educate you. Your threats only solidify the need for intervention. In the state of Seattle, it is illegal to threaten someone, especially in cases of domestic violence. We have a strict anti-harassment policy here and we will not tolerate your harassment any longer to our patient or any of us. I suggest you think carefully about your next words. I am well aware of the hospital's security policies, and I have no qualms about involving the authorities. Your minor surgery does not excuse your continued harassment of Jasper, his family, or myself."

He started to protest but Dr. Williams immediately talked over him and took charge of the situation. "Scott please make sure hospital security monitors Jasper's room and ensures his safety until we can decide about Mr. Hale's stay here. Please report any signs of disturbance. Secondly, we need to take legal action. We can we talk about what can be done while these guys are here?"

"Sure thing, Doc." Jasper's father told him. "In fact I've already got it in the works."

James' eyes widened. "I need to speak to my lawyer. Jasper where is my phone?"

Jasper ignored him.

"Answer me Jasper. You know I will beat your ass about disrespecting me the way you're doing. And you…". He pointed at me. "You're playing a dangerous game, Edward. Watch your back." He threatened.

I gave him the thumbs up. He was infuriated by my lack of interest in his threat.

He looked at Jasper. "So this is how it goes Jazz? After all we've been through?" Jasper closed his eyes again and shook his head in frustration. "Jazz we talked about this before we left. Things haven't always been easy with us but this? Jasper we have a home that is waiting for us. One visit and you're throwing it all way? How could you betray our marriage like this?"

Jasper refused to argue with him. He just shook his head knowingly and seemingly not caring about him.

"Mr. Hale," I addressed him. "Regardless of your marital interactions with Jasper prior to coming to this hospital, he deserves to be safe and free from any form of abuse. As a member of his medical team I will do everything in my power to ensure that happens. Now…your personal care as a patient in our facility will not be compromised as evidenced by this team who have been beyond ready for you to be taken back for your procedure. That's what you need to be focused on. What happens with Jasper at this point is entirely up to him."

"Jasper time will pass, but I promise you I'm going to fulfill every single promise I have made to you." James warned him. "Wait and see. Stupid bitch. You rather be with a twink than a real man? Fuck outta here boy! You ruined our marriage and betrayed what we have! Fuck you stupid whore! You are dead to me!"

Jasper took a long, weary pause, gathering his strength after the surgery had left him fatigued and in agony. Despite his own pain, he remained as strong as he could be.

As tears streamed down Jasper's face, my heart shattered into a million pieces. We all allowed him a moment to gather himself, even his husband, who remained silent, likely hoping to persuade Jasper to return home with him.

After a minute or so of crying and his father cleaning his tear stained face with a damp towel a nurse had handed him, he spoke and steadied himself.

After a minute of tearful silence, his father gently wiped Jasper's tear-stained face with a damp towel given to him by a nurse. Finally, Jasper steadied himself to speak.

"Dad?" he began, allowing his father to comfort him. Looking around at his family, I could see the anguish and weariness they all felt for their beloved Jasper.

"I'm right here, son," his father reassured him. "Dad's right here. I'm so sorry, prince. I'm so sorry for all of this." It was evident to all of us that his father's love for his son was unconditional and unwavering.

"Dad, I want to go to my room," Jasper's voice trembled, as if on the brink of tears once more. "Please, Daddy," he begged.

Oh God please don't let me break!

"Just make it stop, Dad. For good. Please." He pleaded again. "I'm so tired. I can't take any more abuse. I c-c-can't. I'm so tired of it. I just need my peace back. I just need it stop please. Please make it stop."

His father nodded and he swirled his pointer finger in the air at the nurses and attendants, signaling an end to this foolishness with James…now and ongoing.

"That's it. Wrap it. You heard him. Let's go. No more to say."

The nurses nodded and maneuvered the bed in a backwards manner out of the breezeway. James protested as his staff waited for entrance into the surgical doors to take him back. He was yelling all kinds of obnoxious things as we all followed the staff to Jasper's recovery room. I motioned for the family to wait outside while they got him settled.

"I'll be in there in just a minute Jasper."

He nodded.

I closed the door and when I turned around they surprised me by embracing me tearfully. I returned their graciousness.

Dr. William's watched in silence.

"Thank you, Edward." His father told me. "Thank you Dr. Williams."

The rest of the family followed suit even down to the youngest boy who had rejoined us a we walked down the hall. Once again his mother hand taken him and everyone under age 18 out of the commotion.

"It's our pleasure everyone ." I told them. "Jasper, will not have to go through this alone. I know you will do everything in your power to ensure his safety and well-being."

Dr. Williams agreed. "The abuse ends now. Mr. Whitlock please follow up with the restraining orders and law enforcement. Based on what I think I know about all of this, an investigation and possibly an arrest might be warranted immediately upon discharge."

He nodded. "Absolutely. I'm on it."

"I'm going in to check on him and then I'm going to leave and let you all be with him for a while." I told the family.

"We know you're tired, Edward." His Uncle told me. He shook my hand. "You've been up all night. Go get some rest and we will see you later."

"Yes, sir. Let me say goodbye and make sure he's okay and then I'm going to go home and pass out."

He laughed. "Thanks again."

"You're welcome."

" Edward see me before you leave." Dr. William's instructed.

I nodded. "Yes, sir. I'll be right there."

He nodded and said goodbye before walking away.

Entering the recovery room and closing the door behind me, I waved to the staff as they exited, then approached Jasper's bed. He looked broken as he watched me.

Sitting beside him, we shared a moment of silent understanding. This time, there was no blushing, no need for words. We simply connected.

"Are you in pain?" I asked, adjusting his covers.

"Yes," tears fell.

"What's your pain level?"

He paused. "Completely broken."

I bowed my head, struggling to contain my emotions. I steadied myself and my breathing, refusing to let my tears fall.

"Edward, thank you for standing up for me," he said softly. "Thank you."

Our eyes locked, and in that moment, our hearts touched.

"Don't you worry, Jasper. You're in good hands now," I assured him, gently brushing his cheek as I moved a stray curl from his face. "You're absolutely okay now."

We looked at each other, both aware of the unspoken connection between us.

I couldn't explain how, why, or when it happened. All I knew was that I was in love. My heart was full, utterly smitten by him.

As I sat there with Jasper in the recovery room, the weight of the moment hung heavy in the air. His vulnerability tore at my heart, and I struggled to maintain composure, my own emotions threatening to spill over. The bond between us felt palpable, transcending mere words. I had made a promise to myself that Jasper wouldn't have to face this battle alone, and I intended to keep it.

His gratitude, expressed in that soft, fragile voice, struck a chord deep within me. I had never felt a connection as strong as this, a sense of protectiveness and care that transcended the professional boundaries of my role. It was a profound moment of realization; I had fallen for him, not just out of duty, but out of a deeply rooted affection.

As I gazed into Jasper's eyes, I recognized an unspoken understanding between us. His pain and vulnerability only served to strengthen my resolve to stand by him, to support him through his recovery and beyond. In that room, time seemed to stand still, and the world outside faded away as we shared a moment of profound connection.

The depth of my feelings for Jasper had taken me by surprise, and yet in that moment, it felt like the most natural thing in the world. I couldn't deny the love that had blossomed within me, a love that transcended the boundaries of friendship and duty. It was a love born out of compassion, empathy, and an unyielding desire to see him safe and whole.

As I reassured Jasper, gently brushing away his tears, I knew that this was just the beginning of a journey, one that I was more than willing to embark upon. My dedication to him went beyond mere professional obligation; it was a commitment of the heart, a promise to stand by him, to protect him, and to love him through whatever lay ahead.
