King Angnar and Queen Gyda of Ettinsmoor's marriage turned into a marriage of love. He treated her better than her father ever treated her or her mother. Aslan did have to visit Ettinsmoor to tell Angnar and Gyda, to tell them that their descendants would help defeat the White Witch, and Aibhistín went with him.
"And just how will our descendants help defeat her, Aslan?"
"We will see how it will play out, Angnar."
"Will it be our children or grandchildren?"
"Your grandchildren."
"Were you shown how many children and grandchildren we will have?"
"It is not my place to tell you, Queen Gyda. My grandchildren will help defeat the White Witch, as will Queen Mallaidh and King Consort Ionatán's grandchildren."
"I heard you and Aibhstín just had another child."
"We did, we have a son now. We named him Ábhartach."
"Feat-performing one. A good choice for any son of Aslan."
"My king, the queen is not feeling well. She won't leave your chambers, not even for us to move her to her chambers."
"Call for a physician, Aslan, maybe you know what is wrong with her?"
Aslan definitely knew what was wrong with Gyda, but it was a wonder that some of the servants couldn't even tell.
"What are her symptoms?"
"Throwing up every other morning, fatigue, headaches."
"Aibhistín went through the same symptoms through both of her pregnancies."
"Gyda could be with child?"
"She most likely is."
"I'll discuss it with her."
"Is she in her room, Angnar?"
"Yes, and I'm sure she'll be happy to see you."
Aibhístin took her daughter by the hand and held her son in her other arm as she walked the stairs to Angnar and Gyda's chambers. The Ettinsmoor castle was more bleak than Cair Paravel.
"Gyda? Are you awake? It's me Aibhistín. I have a surprise for you."
"The door is open, Aibhistín."
"Are you feeling alright?"
"Somewhat? Who are these little ones?"
"This little princess is Faoiltiama, and this big boy here is Abhartach. Do you want to hold him?"
"May I?"
"Of course. We were going to leave them with my brother and good sister, but with Duana's recent miscarriage and her reaching that certain point in womanhood, I thought they might make her upset. She understood."
"Mallaidh wrote to me of her new baby. A little girl. She said you delivered her."
"I did."
"Will you deliver my baby?"
"Are you with child?"
"Yes. If you can't come back for my labour, I want my husband to deliver my baby."
"Your husband was just discussing with us about having a physician look in on you. But Asian tells me this, grandchildren from you, Mallaidh, and myself will help bring down the White Witch."
"Mallaidh also said that in her letter. That has to be hard for her. Jadis is her great aunt after all."
"She has too many responsibilities as is, she can't possibly handle the weight of this, but at least she is not alone."
"Was her delivery easy?"
"Hers was about like how Faoiltiama was born. But I will go get your husband and have him bring a physician to confirm our suspicions."
"Thank you, Aibhistín."
"Is your father still alive, Gyda?"
"Unfortunately, yes, but Angnar banned him from the palace at least. For my sake."
Aibhistín and Gyda then sat down together to write a letter to Mallaidh. Mallaidh replied back, and she stated in her letter that she hoped their children would be childhood friends, just as their mothers were.
"Aibhistín, We must journey back to Cair Paravel."
"I've already finished packing, Aslan. When Gyda's time is near, I will try to come back for the birth of her baby. She wants me to deliver her baby."
"It is always important to have someone you trust to deliver a child into this world."
The journey from the Ettinsmooran capital city of Holar to Cair Paravel was a safe one, as the Giants of Ettinsmoor would not dare harm the retinue of Aslan, without fear for their lives. When they got back to Cair Paravel, Aibhistín was in for the shock of her life.
"Princess Aibhistín, and my Lord Aslan! Thank the Heavens you are back!"
"What is going on, Morag?"
"It's Crown Prince Frank, my Princess. He has been coughing up blood for the past few days and Queen Duana is beside herself."
"Where is she now?"
"She is in the prince's room."
Aibhistín and Aslan left their children with the servant girl Morag and rushed their way to Prince Frank's room.
"Duana?'
"Aibhistín! Thank the Lord God you're home! And Aslan!"
"How long has he been this sick, Duana?"
"He's been going through this for about a week now. Frank comes in at night to relieve my watchful eyes and replace them with his own. It hurts us both to see our son like this."
"Is Robert allowed to see him? Or has he come in at all?"
"Frank doesn't want his little brother to see him like this."
"Mother, mother, my water."
"Shhh, Frank. Don't speak, just rest. Here is your water. The physician identified it as consumption. We don't know how he got it."
"Duana, he hasn't been anywhere outside of Narnia has he?"
"While you were gone, he decided to be the personal envoy of the newly established kingdom of Archenland, to the south of us. He's not used to mountains, and maybe he caught a sickness there that progressed too quickly. He was always sickly, but never too sickly."
"Aibhistín, take Duana with you into the hallway where you can talk. I'll stay in here with Frank."
"Come Duana, I'll have tea brought to us to help you relax. You need to get your appetite back."
Aslan stayed in the room with Frank, and Aslan's very presence seemed to steady and ease Frank's breathing.
"Aslan? Are you still here?"
"I am here, my boy."
"How much longer do I have?"
"That depends on whether you wish to be healed."
"In Archenland, my retinue came across a group of bandits. The leader was very sick, and he and his group were willing to hold me for ransom, but I told them even if they killed me, I still have a family that would retaliate. In the ensuing fight, I caught his sickness. They then threatened to kidnap Robert. I love my little brother, and the rest of my family, you as well Aslan. Or rather I should say, Uncle Aslan."
"You risked your life for your family, and here you are suffering for it. Would you do it again?'
"Yes."
Duana and Aibhistín listened at the door, and as her son talked, she kept crying, as if her world was ending. And then she heard a small voice.
"Mother?"
"Robert. What are you doing here?"
"I want to see my brother."
"He doesn't want you to see him like this, Robert."
"Did he tell you that, or did you assume so?'
"Robert-."
"I am going in to see my brother."
"Robert, no!"
"Frank?"
"Robert."
"Mother told me you didn't want me to see you like this."
"She only kept you away to keep you from getting sick."
"Hello, Aslan."
"Hello, Robert."
"In all of your ten years of life, did you ever think you'd see me like this?"
"Don't make a joke of it, brother."
"He took a risk for you, Robert."
"And I would do it again."
Against his better judgment, Robert went and sat down next to his brother, and took him by the hand.
"I probably shouldn't be doing this."
"I'm fading little brother. The sickness won't hold its weight for much longer. But when I do pass, I know that you will be a great king someday."
"Brother, please-."
"No, you need to hear this. I was always the rash one, you have patience, even for a child. And don't cry when I take my last breath. I will take it with joy, knowing that with it I saved my family. Aslan, will you tell Aunt Aibhistín to watch over everyone for me?"
"Of course I will."
"My race has been run."
Crown Prince Frank of Narnia laid his head down on his pillow and took his last breath, with a smile on his face. Queen Duana stopped hearing her oldest son's voice, and Aibhistín opened the door. The royal women walked into the room to find Prince Robert lying over his brother's lifeless body, draining his eyes of tears. Aslan sat and watched, knowing that while his family member suffered, it was for a good reason.
"Mother. He did it for us."
"I know. I heard him outside the door."
Mother and son hugged each other tight, as King Frank came in to check on his son. He hugged his wife and child like they were all he had. Aibhistín stood by Aslan's side, and gripped his mane tight as her tears came flowing down.
"He asked me to tell you to look after everyone, Aibhistín."
"He was always that close with me. I was closer in age with him than I was with my brother."
Later in the night, Aslan was lying on the floor of Aibhistín's room in front of the fire, wrapped around Aibhistín, and their children were fast asleep in their cribs.
"And now it's Robert's turn, Aslan.'
"Yes, it is."
The following week was Crown Prince Frank's funeral. When he won his first tourney, he always stated that if he died, he would want to be burned like his Terebinthian counterparts.
"We'll make it, Duana. Your world won't end. Don't forget about Robert."
"I won't Frank."
Around Christmas time, everyone's spirits were lifted with the news that Queen Gyda had just given birth to a healthy baby boy, delivered by her husband. They gave him the name of Ragnall.
