"You son-of-a-gun…you had me scared to death, you know that?" Columbo said while sitting in the passenger seat with Dog, who was resting his head on his lap. After the day they'd both had, they were certainly entitled to some rest.
"I like the way you think." The Lieutenant remarked before easing back against the headrest. However, his eyes had only been closed for a few minutes when he heard the sound of the driver-side door opening.
"We're ready to go, Lieutenant." Sergeant Coleman announced as he got inside the car, which had been parked while he escorted Mrs. Peck inside the police station.
"Should I drop you off at home now, Lieutenant?"
"I think that would be best, Sergeant. Dog and I…well…we've had one heck of a day. And my Wife must be worried sick…"
"Of course, sir."
The Sergeant's car pulled into Columbo's driveway just after 4 am. It had been a long day, and an even longer night, but it was finally over.
Leading Dog along the familiar walkway that led up towards the house, Columbo fumbled with his keys tiredly for a moment before opening the door.
The moment the door opened; he heard a familiar voice calling down from upstairs.
"Frank?! Is that you?"
"Yes, honey!"
"Oh thank god…did you find him?"
The Lieutenant smiled warmly as he gave Dog's head a pat.
"Why don't you come down and see for yourself?"
