[Present Day...]
While the city of New York was dealing with a certain 'Hulking out Red Lantern' problem, the amalgamation of multiple worlds given no choice but to combine and exist as one was... Undergoing an adjustment. One of those adjustments is taking place within the literally cursed city of Gotham - the town known for its dingy atmosphere and awful omens. Well, if its reputation is thought to be shady now, then one could only imagine the general opinion of it that would circulate before long this fateful night. It begins JUST as the clock strikes 10:00pm. Under a full moon, Gothams streets begin to rumble and eventually shake a violent force strong enough to knock pedestrians off their feet and make buildings quiver. But the true cause for alarm begins in front of the Soloman Wayne Courthouse.
As if the very pavement itself has become far too worn and delicate to continue maintaining its surface, the ground begins to give out and crumble apart, giving way to a hole that grows in both depth and radius as the seconds pass. Citizens do their best to run from the disaster, but it's awfully difficult to run when you're being shaken off balance, and some join a myriad of cars into falling into that bottomless pit. Desperate cries come and go within short moments until that earthquake finally comes to an end and that hole - now massive enough to cover four blocks in each direction - stops growing. However, the horror doesn't end there... As if the End Times has finally arrived for the dark city, beasts of various kinds suddenly come climbing out of that abyss like an infestation. Undead minotaurs with bits of flesh missing and bones visible and spartan spears in hand. Black feathered harpies who take to the sky, shield and sword wielding fallen soldiers from various primitive empires, and even fire breathing dogs. All of which emerge from the underworld realm of Hades' domain, rising to right some wrong. They do so indiscriminately. No breath is wasted and that army of damned servants slaughter all who walk the streets swiftly. Corpses are then either feasted upon by the foul beasts, dogs and harpies particularly, or dragged back to the massive pit to be thrown into.
[ A Day Later… ]
Konnence is by his lonesome again, though that's for the better in his personal opinion. In addition, the fact he was able to retrieve his bag from New York, and take some time to explore this new world of wonder, are a boost to his mood. He flies high in the sky over the ocean beneath him with a simple smile on his face. Sure, last night he came to the very glaring realization that he's homeless now, but there's genuine chances he could meet some of his favorite comic characters now. And truth be told, he's rather giddy at the thought of fighting for justice side by side with none other than Superman himself.
Even with that said, Metropolis City isn't his first stop. He, in all honesty, hasn't the clue what town he's heading to up ahead. Unknown to him just yet, he eventually arrives in Gotham City and with enough time before the evening settles in.
Konnence slows flight and shifts his body from advancing horizontally to gliding upright as he descends to touch down upon a sidewalk at the heart of the town, where stores of fanciful wares and goods litter the… the…
"What…?" A question that slips from the young man's slips as he looks around with a disturbed look on his face. He sees half a dozen abandoned cars on the street in front of him, a thick dry trail of blood on the pavement that begins from the ground underneath an open car door and goes on to paint a messy 'L' shaped line reaching the end of the street and continues down to the next one to the right. Dry blood on the sidewalk across from him and some on the window of a shop near it. Both curious and concerned, Konnence begins jogging down the sidewalk while his gym bag softly bounces with each step.
"Hello? Is anyone out there!?" He hadn't noticed until that question left his lips, but it truly is eerily quiet. He hasn't even seen a corpse, let alone a living person. Nothing responds to his loudness for attention, not even chirping birds. That is, until ONE curious townsfolk peers out the window of their apartment.
"Hey! Hey, whaddya think you're doing!? It's getting close to sundown, you're gonna get yourself killed out there!" A gruff older man shouts down at him from the third floor of an apartment building behind the hero. The latter stops in his tracks and turns toward the voice.
"Huh, what do you mean by that? What happens at sundown?" Konnence questions.
"What, you new or– Oh. Oooh! You one of 'em heroes, huh? Do what ya want, but be careful. The demons and monsters come out at night, I think. They left when the sun came up, but I don't trust it. Guns don't do jack to them either." The stranger explains.
"Demons and monsters?" The hero raises a brow.
"Yeah. Freakin' things came out of that giant hole down at the courthouse. Listen to tha' warnin' or not, but I told ya all ya need to know, kid." And with those parting words, the civilian shuts his window, leaving Konnence alone to disgust the information.
Contemplating internally, the young man eventually decides to venture onward and explore. He WOULD'VE flown again, but 6pm finally hits and the alarm built into the right sleeve of his suit begins beeping softly, indicating that his powers are transitioning – swapping out for the gifts his mother's bloodline gives him. That means no more flying until 6am. Instead, he continues onward with giant bounds that carry him a few miles at a time through the city. Soon he lands on top of a building far from his starting point and high enough to give a decent view of his surroundings. He moves toward the edge and scans his eyes around. Within seconds, he spots that giant hole in the ground the man told him about in the distance.
"Jeeze… That's incredibly big! What could even do that?" He asks out loud while looking on with a wary expression. After a moment, he's on the move again. By this time, the night is creeping closer and on the verge of overtaking the autumn colors of the fading sun. He makes one more great leap after his previous one from the roof he was on and comes landing down the road from the hole. He walks toward it and comes to squat at its edge, looking down curious into–
''It's pitch black dark down there." He comments while squinting. The hole is like a bottomless abyss of darkness. There's no telling how deep it goes or where one may end up should they fall in.
