Elena was sitting with Elijah in the kitchen enjoying some breakfast and a cup of blood. Stefan and Bonnie had reluctantly left the night before at Elena's insistence. Neither seemed to really be respecting her choices. They kept trying to get her to go back to Mystic Falls, so she told them to leave, that she needed space. Caroline had decided to stick around for at least a few weeks, which Elena was okay with. Caroline was respecting her choice to stay and promised to continue to do so in the future.

"I thought perhaps we could go into town today if you're up for it. I would love to show you around New Orleans," Elijah said.

"That sounds nice. I'll need a new daylight ring though. I didn't keep the last one after taking the cure," Elena said.

"I'm aware. Freya should have one for you shortly. She promised to get started first thing this morning," Elijah said.

"That would be great then. I could definitely use a shopping trip. Everything I own is in Mystic Falls. Although, I don't have any money at the moment either. Maybe Caroline will help me out until I can get that situated," Elena mused. She didn't like borrowing money, but at the moment, she didn't have a choice. She wouldn't have access to any of her funds for at least a few days.

"You don't need to worry about such things. I will happily provide you with anything you need," Elijah said.

"No, Elijah, I can't take money from you," Elena immediately said.

"Of course, you can. I have more money than I could ever hope to spend. You will not put a dent in my bank account even if you bought out the entire store," Elijah assured her.

"That's not the point," she said.

"Elena, please allow me to do this for you. It gives me pleasure to help you in any way I can, as I'm sure you can feel," Elijah said.

Elena sighed. "Okay, I'm going to pay back later."

Elijah said nothing, but he had no intention of taking a dime from her. "There's something else we should discuss. Niklaus wants to bring Hope back today. Do you think you would feel comfortable with her being here so soon after turning?"

"Yeah, I'm okay, Elijah. Most of the extreme hunger was yours. My control is actually a lot better than it was the first time," Elena said. Her lack of control the first time had a lot to do with the sire bond. Damon had been confident on how she needed to feed, and he'd inadvertently made that a reality for her with the sire bond. "I think we need to be careful though. We both need to feed regularly, or the other is going to be twice as hungry."

"I agree. We don't wait to feed, no matter how much we might feel like we can handle it," Elijah said.

"Good. Klaus can bring the baby home then. Speaking of Klaus, do you wanna tell me what's up with the two of you? Even if I couldn't sense your emotions, the tension between you is more than obvious," Elena said.

Elijah sighed and explained the situation. He told her everything from the moment he decided to dagger his brother to Niklaus having Hayley cursed.

"Uh, Elijah, I mean this in the nicest possible way, but what were you expecting?" Elena asked.

Elijah looked at her with an astonished and slightly hurt expression. How could she be taking his brother's side after all he'd done. He had been sure Elena would see things from his point of view.

"Don't look at me that way. You daggered him. Did you really think it was going to end well?" Elena asked.

"He has daggered me countless times. My siblings even more so," Elijah said, still shocked at her reaction.

"Oh, I'm not saying he didn't deserve it. If you want to dagger him, feel free. He more than deserves it. But you should've known that when that dagger eventually came out, it was not going to be pretty. It's Klaus. He tortures and kills depending on his mood, let alone daggering him," Elena said. She certainly wasn't trying to take Klaus' side. As Elijah said, Klaus was extremely dagger happy. It served him right. However, Elijah should've been smarter than that. He should've known that Klaus was going to be Klaus.

"He was out of control. I didn't know what else to do. Perhaps it was a mistake to dagger him, but it was the only option I could see, and his actions afterwards certainly weren't justified," Elijah said.

"I never said they were. I just think you shouldn't be surprised by them," she said.

"I think what he did to Hayley is what I have the most trouble getting over," Elijah said.

"You cared a lot about Hayley, didn't you?" Elena asked. She knew he did. She could feel his emotions, but he should have a chance to vocalize them.

"Yes. I would not say that I loved her, but I suppose I did have strong feelings for her," Elijah said.

"I want to be brutally honest with you, Elijah," she said.

"I would want nothing less," Elijah told her.

"I think your feelings for Hayley are clouding your judgement. She tried to take his child from him," Elena said. Granted, it was Klaus, so she could understand that to an extent, but she was trying to keep her personal feelings for Klaus out of it.

"She was trying to protect her," Elijah said defensively.

"I realize that, but I want you to consider something. What if it wasn't Hayley? What if it was someone else taking the child? Better yet, what if it wasn't Klaus' child? What if it was yours? You would do the exact same thing. Don't say you wouldn't because we both know better," Elena said. Obviously, Klaus' reaction was extreme, but it was how he was, and it was also how Elijah was. He would've done the same thing. Both were very dangerous and very vengeful when they were crossed.

Elijah sighed and then smiled slightly. "You have a way of seeing though me like no one else. Perhaps you have a point. I've never tried to see the situation through Niklaus' perspective."

"Look, Elijah, you know how I feel about Klaus. I'm not saying any of this for him. I'm saying it for you because I know how much you love him. I know how much it would hurt you to throw your relationship with him away. And for what it's worth, I think Klaus feels the same way about you in his own way. Klaus was very kind to me when you were desiccated. He did that for you, not me," Elena said.

"I hear what you're saying. I will give it some thought. For now, shall we get ready to go? Freya should have your ring ready soon," Elijah said.

"Yeah. Let me just go change," Elena said before standing up. She headed out of the room and walked towards the stairs.

"Thank you," a voice called out.

Elena turned to see Klaus standing a few feet away. "If you heard everything I said, you know I did it for Elijah, not you."

"I do. Thank you anyway," Klaus said.

"I'm never going to like you, Klaus. Elijah loves you though, and I'd hate to see him throw away his relationship with you over a woman. He'd come to regret it," Elena said.

Klaus smiled slightly. This was why he preferred Elena for his brother than Hayley. He may not particularly like the doppelganger, but she wouldn't try to come between him and his brother. "Perhaps it's time for us to call a truce, love."

Elena chuckled slightly. "You want a truce, after you murdered me and members of my family?"

"If I recall correctly, you and your brother murdered a member of my family as well," Klaus pointed out.

"I'm not going to apologize for that. I don't like that it happened, but Kol was trying to kill my brother. We did what we had to do, and if it came down to it, I wouldn't change anything," Elena said honestly. Again, she didn't like it. She had felt guilt for it, but it was Kol or Jeremy. She would choose Jeremy over anybody.

"I would expect nothing less, but my point still stands," Klaus said.

"Actually, it doesn't. We killed Kol to save a life. You killed my aunt to end a curse you could've lived with. It's not nearly the same. But I recognize the fact that for now at least, you and I are going to be around each other a lot, and life would be pretty miserable if I kept holding a grudge. I will never forgive you for Jenna's death, but I can tolerate you for Elijah's sake," Elena said.

"Very well. It seems we've come to an understanding," Klaus said.

Elena nodded before heading up the stairs.
