Boom Stick: Holy shit, that was a brutal ending! But I thought Tanya would be unstoppable here. How did Yoshika pull off this win?

Wiz: Tanya held the obvious advantages in both firepower and experience. She had seen far more combat against other magical humans. Yoshika meanwhile only saw battle against laser aliens and the occasional simulated combat against other witches. Tanya was also generally more aggressive, preferring to use hit and run methods using overwhelming attacks compared to Yoshika who preferred to use defensive strategies until there was an opening. And Tanya may have held a slight advantage in maneuverability, though it's negligible.

Boom Stick: However when going up against Yoshika, it was a different story. Yoshika far outclassed anyone Tanya has ever gone up against.

Wiz: Both Tanya and Yoshika had higher magical talents than other magical users in their worlds. Both had abilities that were well suited to them, and both have stronger defenses than others from their worlds. However when it came to sheer raw magical output, Yoshika far exceeds Tanya by a wide margin.

Boom Stick: Mainly her shields. Yoshika's shields were ridiculously OP.

Wiz: True. Tanya may have had the firepower advantage and experience, but against Yoshika's shields it would all be for naught. Let's take Tanya's most powerful attack. Her Type 95 Optical Explosive spell. At max output Tanya was capable of blowing off the top 100 feet of a mountain which took about 5-7 seconds to do. If we use Mt. Everest as an example and do the calculations.

V = (1/3) * π * h * (r1^2 + r2^2 + r1*r2)

V = (1/3) * π * 30.48 * (3963.19^2 + (3963.19 - 30.48)^2 + 3963.19 * (3963.19 - 30.48)) ≈ 3.406 x 10^9 cubic meters

Energy = V * E,
where:
Energy = energy required (in joules)
V = volume (in cubic meters)
E = energy per unit volume (in joules per cubic meter)

Energy = 3.406 x 10^9 cubic meters * 1 MJ/cubic meter ≈ 3.406 x 10^9 MJ

To convert this energy to watts, we need to divide it by the time taken (5 seconds):

Power = Energy / time,
where:
Power = power required (in watts)
Energy = energy required (in joules)
time = time taken (in seconds)

Power = 3.406 x 10^9 MJ / 5 seconds ≈ 6.812 x 10^8 MW (megawatts)

Therefore, Tanya was hitting the mountain top with a maximum force equal to 681.2 MEGAWATTS of power. Note that Everest is made up of Qomolangma Limestone which is a harder rock than what mostly makes up the Alps so we are high-balling here to give her, her best chance.

Boom Stick: If anyone is curious that's enough energy to power 563 Back to the Future DeLorearns all at once! Or for you military enthusiasts that's about 310,000 MOABs!

Wiz: An insane amount of destructive force to be sure, but Yoshika's shields could easily stop that kind of power. While a Neuroi's laser has been seen to be variable in power, Yoshika has been seen to block even the most powerful of beams and even push them back. So let's take the most impressive Neuroi laser we've seen which comes at 32 seconds into the very first episode of the series. In it we see a Neuroi hit the Eiffel Tower and literally vaporize the bottom 2/3 of it in 1/10 of a second. So fast that the top 1/3 of the tower doesn't even have time to fall into the beam. The Eiffel Tower is 10,010 tons of iron, so 2/3 of that would be 6,733 tons of iron. So now we do the calculations.

Heat energy required = (Mass of iron) * (Latent heat of vaporization)
= 13,466 pounds * 340 BTU/pound
= 4,573,240 BTU

Power = 4,573,240 BTU / 0.00002778 hours
≈ 164,665,573,770,492 BTU/hour

One BTU per hour is approximately 0.293 watts.

Power (in watts) = 164,665,573,770,492 BTU/hour * 0.293 watts/BTU
≈ 48,273,173,433,124 watts

Therefore, it would take approximately 48.27 TERAWATTS of power to vaporize 2/3 of the Eiffel Tower in 1/10 of a second.

Boom Stick: THAT'S JUST OVER 70,000 TIMES MORE POWERFUL THAN TANYA'S BEST SHOT! And we routinely see Neuroi blasting whole city blocks into dust, vaporizing whole army and tank divisions and fleets with the same firepower! And we're constantly seeing them slice through battleships early on in split seconds. Neuroi can casually pump out lasers that are 355.6 megewatts in power (force needed to slice battleship steal that quickly) and even merge these kinds of beams together for more power. Makes you wonder what the hell the Military's R&D Department came up with to make Neuroi-laser resistant coatings. And here's the kicker. A NORMAL witch's shield is able to block these kinds of blasts. Not for long periods of time mind you, but very impressive.

Wiz: And Yoshika's shields are repeatedly stated to be several magnitudes in power STONGER than this. Which means…

Boom Stick: Which means none of Tanya's attacks had any of the 7 layers of hell's chance of getting through Yoshika's Shield. Even if she could rapid fire her optical attack, which she can't because it severely drains her and causes mental disruptions in her brain, it would be no different than if Yoshika was taking repeated laser hits from a Neuroi.

Wiz: But ironically Yoshika had the same problem. She was not able to get through Tanya's shields with her guns either. Tanya's shields, while obviously weaker than Yoshika's, is clearly stated and shown to easily deflect incoming small arms fire without difficulty. Unless under long term heavy sustained fire, which Yoshika would not be able to do i 1. Tanya wasn't going to stay in one spot to be shot. Only other magically imbued ammunition, which Yoshika had no ability to do, or a far stronger conventional weapon like an artillery shell, could bring down her shields. And even then it would take several of those before they did fail.

Boom Stick: So if none of Tanya's attacks could get though Yoshika's shields and Yoshika's guns weren't powerful enough to get through Tanya's, then how did Yoshika pull of this win?

Wiz: Well there are several factors. Two minor factors would be she had both the speed and altitude advantage, as maneuverability would be nearly equal, both factors being nearly double that of Tanya's. So she could play catch up in a pursuit battle very easily, get away if the rolls were reversed easily, and have the high perch advantage. But a major advantage is also her own shields. Besides providing the best defense, Yoshika, along with a few of her other squad mates, also uses them on many occasions as battering rams. Ramming her way though Neuroi bodies to their core or plowing a way clear though hundreds, even thousands of them at a time.

Boom Stick: Hell Yoshika didn't even need Reppumaru to win this fight. All she had to do was bum rush Tanya with her shield and smush her into the ground, a rock, or something else hard and the battle would have been won pretty quickly. Tanya's shields weren't going to stand up to that kind of force. Like back with her fight with Mary. Mary was able to get through Tanya's shield with a melee attack with her gun. Yes Tanya's shield was at its limits at the time, but the fact Mary was able to get through them at all was a serious blow. One that Yoshika could easily get through with a ramming attack.

Wiz: Another factor Yoshika had over Tanya was her healing abilities.

Boom Stick: Yeah, Yoshika's healing is basically a cheat. Given her already insane amount of magic, and combining it with her healing trait, she was able to heal fatal wounds almost instantly, EVEN ON HERSELF. So even if somehow Tanya was able to wound Yoshika, Yoshika would just heal herself and be back in the fight in seconds. Tanya did have a small healing factor but it was nowhere near close to being so OP as Yoshika's. The only thing Tanya could do to end the fight was decapitate Yoshika, but there was practically no chance of that happening.

Wiz: And her final factor over Tanya was her most important, and that was the sword Reppumaru and its techniques Reppuzen and Shin Reppuzen. Yoshika possessed the only weapon in this battle that could get though the other's shields. Yoshika using the Shin Reppuzen was able to cut right though a shield as powerful as an average witch's.

Boom Stick: Remember when we said a normal witch's shield could block a beam that was 48.27 Terawatts? At the end of Season 2 when the Neuroi Nest's core absorbed Sakamoto into itself, it was able to learn how to use magic and put up shields just as strong! AND YOSHIKA BLEW RIGHT THROUGH IT LIKE IT WASN'T EVEN THERE! And to add further evidence to this, Sakamoto, who mind you was weaker than Yoshika and already had waning powers, WAS ABLE TO CUT THROUGH A SIMILAR BEAM using nothing but Reppumaru. With this kind of power backed up by Yoshika's ridiculous amount of magic, there was ZERO chance that Tanya's shields was going to block this, or even slow it down. One hit and it would have been over for her. But I know what you're asking now. Couldn't Tanya's ability to disrupt spell casting have given her the edge here? After all if she could disrupt Yoshika's shields and healing couldn't she have won?

Wiz: Short answer, no. And there are 2 reasons why this ability wouldn't work against Yoshika. 1. This ability only works on mages who's powers are weaker than Tanya's. Tanya's power level is very high in her world, but there are ones who have equal or greater power. And her disruption powers have been proven NOT to work on them. Yoshika's far greater amount of magic would have overpowered anything Tanya tried. 2. Yoshika's magic, and witches' magic in general, are used differently than in Tanya's world. See in Tanya's world a kind of mental spell casting must be preformed in order to use the correct ammunition spell (armor piercing, high explosive, artillery, Optical). Mages have to go through training to learn these spells with their magic to use for combat. It's this mental spell casting that Tanya can disrupt in weaker mages. However Witches don't use mental spell casting, nor are they trained to used them (outside of physical training). A witch's specific magical ability (healing, long sight, radar, speed, strength) are inherently natural to their bloodline. Meaning they are born with their powers already to use. Though practice is needed to properly use them. It's the same with their shields. All witches are born naturally able to use shields without any kind of incantation, but again practice is needed to use them properly. Training was needed for a witch to properly use their magic, but the abilities were already there, but it was more physical training to get a witch's body in shape to handle such magical powers.

Boom Stick: This is why Sakamoto had Yoshika go though rigorous physical training. To strengthen her body and her stamina to use such an overwhelming amount of natural raw magic. And talent to use it. Tanya's ability to disrupt magical incantations would have been useless here as witches don't use incantations in the first place.

Comparisons:

Tanya Degurechaff:

+ More Experienced in fighting other humans
+ Superior firearm firepower
= Maneuverability
- Slower top Speed

- Lower operational Ceiling
- Far weaker defenses

- Only a minor healing factor

- Could not disrupt Yoshika's Magic

- Far weaker, had no way to penetrate Yoshika's defenses

- Weaker magical output

- Could not stand to get wounded over and over

- Can't use Optical attack more than once as it severely drains her and damages her mind.

- 681.2 Megawats at max power

Yoshika Miyafuji:

- Little to no experience fighting other humans outside of training exercises.

- Lesser firearm firepower

= Maneuverability

+ Twice as fast (even faster in short bursts that are just barely subsonic)

+ Twice the operational ceiling. Allowing for greater perching opportunities.

+ Nigh impenetrable defenses.

+ Near instantaneous healing, even of fatal wounds (short of decapitation or other instant fatal wounds)

+ Could not have had magic disrupted
+ Far stronger, had ways to defeat Tanya's shields (Shin Reppuzen, or shield ramming)

+ Far, FAR greater magical output
+ Could heal herself to rejoin the fight in seconds.

+ Can use a ridiculous amount of magic and still continue to fight. Not immune to exhaustion however.

+ 48.27++ Terawatts output (Obviously far more powerful than this)

Wiz: So while Tanya held advantages in both experience and comparative firepower, it was Yoshika's sheer magical output, ridiculously tough shields that could be used for both defensive as well as offensive roles, the one weapon that could get though the other's shields, and her insane healing factor, that overpowered Tanya and gave her the win.

Boom Stick: Tanya may have been one bad little bitch, but once she saw just how powerful Yoshika was, she had to…. split.

Wiz: *Sigh*…. The winner, is Yoshika Miyafuji.
