Chapter 40
Disclaimer: I don't own glee or this story
"Mami pow pow Sky." Skylar pulled on Mrs. Lopez's pants leg quickly. "Mami pow pow Sky."
Mrs. Lopez raised her eyebrow at her granddaughter and lifted the baby in her lap. "What happened, honey?" She asked, a confused frown on her face. "Buela doesn't understand, honey."
"Pow pow Sky." Skylar said sadly, grabbing her grandmother's necklace and staring at it, running her fingers over it slowly, before looking back up at the elder Latina woman, who was staring at her. "Mami."
"Taylor!" Mrs. Lopez called out.
Taylor came running in, both puppies in her arms and smiled. "Si?"
"Skylar keeps saying 'Mami pow pow Sky', help me out." Mrs. Lopez asked. "Sky got a spanking in the mall yesterday because she was throwing keychains on the floor from the counter, and she tried to kick Mami, so Mami popped her legs and her hands." Taylor said softly.
Skylar stared at her sister, a small glare forming at she watched her sister run out of the room again. "So you were naughty and got a spanking?" Mrs.Lopez asked the baby, taking the necklace out of her hand and lifting her chin so Skylar was looking in her face. "Were you naughty at the store?"
Skylar nodded quickly. "Si."
"Hmmmm, so that's why you got pow pows?"
"Si, mami pow pow Sky."
"You can't be naughty." Mrs. Lopez replied, "no hitting, no kicking."
"No hit."
"That's right, we don't hit anyone." She repeated to her granddaughter. "Buela needs to find a cartoon on not hitting others for you to watch." She reached for her iPad and pulled up her YouTube app, beginning to search for a video to watch with Skylar. The baby leaned back on her grandmother's chest and watched as her the elder woman searched for a video.
"Bua?"
"Yes honey."
"No hit."
"That's right, we don't hit." Mrs. Lopez repeated.
Skylar nodded and exhaled as she wiggled to get comfortable and placed her hands on her grandmother's.
"That was really good." Brittany smiled, laughing as Santana, ate the last bite off of her plate, winking at her before kissing her on the cheek as she chewed.
"You know someone really loves you when they give you their last bite of food." Daphne smiled. "Thank you, cooking is a hobby of mine, I watch all those competition cooking shows on Food Network and try out the techniques I see." She blushed.
"Well, you're doing a great job." Santana smiled, lifting her champagne glass.
"Not everything is a success story." Yesi laughed. "We've had some rough dinners."
Brittany frowned when she saw Daphne's demeanor change from Yesi slight jab at her and cleared her throat. "Well I commend you, Santana does most of our cooking, since I'm not the best chef, I admire anyone that's willing to not only cook but cook for others." She smiled. "Anytime we have company for dinner, I stay away from the kitchen."
"Oh stop it, baby." Santana smiled. "You're an amazing cook, there are a number of things that you cook way better than me."
"Thanks." Brittany blushed as Santana smiled lovingly at her.
"You are such a cute couple." Daphne beamed, "totally still in the newlyweds phase, which is surprising and rare to see after you've been married for so long, you two have a 7 year old, right?"
"She's nine, Taylor, is nine, she's just small for her age." Santana clarified. "But I guess you can say we are still newlyweds, it's been almost 2 years."
"Two weeks from Sunday." Brittany nodded.
Yesi stood to clear the table and raised an eyebrow at them. "I thought you two were married longer than that?"
Brittany and Santana both glanced at each other before Brittany shrugged and nodded. "We were married for about 4 years, then we divorced for almost 3, then we remarried."
"Couldn't stay away from each other?" Daphne smiled.
"I never stopped loving Brittany." Santana stated, grabbing Brittany's hand and holding it tightly. "Taylor helped us realize how much we missed each other too, so here we are, back and better than ever."
"We've been in the newlywed phase ever since." Brittany winked at Santana, who mouthed I love you and leaned forward to kiss her.
Yesi nodded to herself, taking the plates to the kitchen, Daphne grabbing the remaining dishes and excusing herself as well. "I would never demean you in front of company like that." Brittany whispered softly.
Santana, who was checking her teeth in her compact, glanced at her wife.
"She didn't demean her, just some marital banter, we do it all the time."
"Not in front of people we just met." Brittany replied as Yesi and Daphne walked back in the dining room.
"Why don't we move to the living room and have some drinks and chat some more." Yesi suggested, nodding towards the living room.
Santana grabbed Britany's hand and followed the couple to the living room, she kissed Brittany on the cheek once they sat down and placed her hand on Brittany's thigh rubbing discreetly. "Well thank you both again for inviting us over, we haven't had a chance to really get out of the house and spend some time away from the kids."
Brittany laughed. "What Santana means is it's good to have a night out where we can relax, our youngest has been a handful lately."
"Terrible twos." Santana rolled her eyes, nodding a thank you to Yesi as she handed her a glass of wine.
"Do you two have kids?' Brittany asked.
"No kids, but my niece and nephew kind of live with us, long story with my brother and his wife." Yesi replied. "But enough about that boring stuff, we are all kid free tonight, right?"
Daphne glanced at her wife before lifting her glass of wine and taking a long sip. "So Santana, Brittany, what do you two do for work?" she asked, smiling as Yesi sat down next to her, wrapping her arm around her wife. "I know Brittany introduced you as a doctor when we first met."
Santana nodded. "I'm a cardiac surgeon."
"She was the number one cardiac surgeon in New York State before we
moved, and ranked in the top five of surgeons on the east coast, top twenty surgeons in the country. She's written medical journals, been on tv, and has traveled to do some high profile surgeries." Brittany bragged.
"Whoa." Daphne smiled.
"Yet you gave that all up to follow your wife, noble, very noble of you." Yesi stated, taking a sip of her wine.
"I don't look at it as giving anything up, my career is basically where I want it, I'm in a position where I can switch hospitals because of my accolades, so I'm not worried about a job. I'm at an age where I also know that my family comes first, and if that means I take a few steps back professionally or take some time off to help Brittany flourish, then I'm all for it."
Brittany didn't respond and instead turned Santana's head to kiss her softly, winking at her.
"So Brittany, what do you do?" Daphne asked, glancing at Yesi, and rolling her eyes when she saw her staring at Santana's legs.
"I'm in advertising, and accepted the VP of the west region postion." Brittany replied. "It's a blessing to have been able to accept it and move right away, having a supportive wife is the best part. So what do you two do? I know Yesi mentioned she was a personal a trainer."
"I am, I own a gym with a few other people across town, I work as a personal trainer there, and for some of the upper class, I do private lessons to some of richest people in Phoenix and Scottsdale." Yesi smiled.
"Im a pediatric speech therapist." Daphne smiled. "Not as exciting as any of your jobs, but I love it. I get the sweetest kids and helping them with stop their stuttering, or just help with them speaking in general is so fulfilling."
"Sounds awesome." Santana smiled.
"I have a lot of contacts at hospitals and some private practices, so if you're interested and when you're ready to get back to work, just let me know and I can see what hospitals in the area are hiring, although with your accolades you might not need any help."
"Thank you, I really appreciate that." Santana nodded, wiggling closer to Brittany, who wrapped her arm around her.
Yesi rolled her eyes and sighed. "Now that we got the boring small talk out of the way let's have some real girl talk." Yesi knocked back her shot and bite her lime seductively. "So Santana, screams or moans?"
Santana coughed and raised an eyebrow at her. "Excuse me?"
"Are you a moaner or screamer during sex?"
Brittany set her drink down and focused her eyes on the woman. "Isn't that a little inappropriate to ask?"
"Well, I'm a personal trainer, as a you know, and I've noticed that when Santana was running she seemed tense, so if she's a moaner, she should scream so that she releases that pent up stress." Yesi smiled brightly. "I've done some studies."
"With who?" Brittany asked. "Santana is a doctor so she's pretty up to date on studies and things of that nature."
"Stop asking people that." Daphne groaned, "sorry, she can be a little inappropriate with her little hobbies.
Yesi glared at her wife. "Don't call my research a little hobby, I've told you about that."
Brittany shifted uncomfortably at the tone that Yesi used and rubbed Santana's arms, holding her tighter.
"You can be so unsupportive." Yesi snapped.
"Stop asking people about their sex lives and trying to tie it into you job."
Daphne replied quietly. "It's embarrassing."
"Just shut the fuck up." Yesi replied, pouring herself another shot.
Santana opened and closed her mouth before clearing her throat and speaking up. "You really shouldn't talk to your wife like that."
Yesi raised an eyebrow at Santana and smiled. "You're right. Brittany, you're a lucky lady, your wife has so much respect for others, I bet she treats you like a queen."
Brittany set her wine glass down, deciding she was done drinking for the night, not liking how the conversation was flowing and took Santana's out of
her hand as well. "Please be done." She whispered. "She does, we have a great deal of respect for each other."
"Must be nice." Daphne sniffled, wiping a tear from her eyes.
"Maybe we should go." Brittany suggested.
"No, stay. Daphne is just super sensitive and can't take a little heat when it's thrown her way." Yesi replied, glaring at her wife. "I told you not to embarrass me with that sensitive shit tonight." She then whispered harshly to her.
Brittany tapped Santana on the leg, and nodded towards the door. "We should get going." Santana spoke up. "Sky has been a handful during bedtime and I know she probably ran my mom crazy tonight."
"No, stay...one more drink." Yesi smiled. "Let's play a card game."
Santana locked eyes with Brittany, who sighed and shrugged. "Just one round."
Yesi smiled and jumped up, jogging over to their bookcase and grabbed a game. "Let's play Never Have I Ever."
Once the cards were all dealt, Santana picked up her hand and notice that all the cards were hand written with their own statements. She frowned but shrugged before frowning again when she saw Brittany look less than enthused at the cards. "Santana why don't you go first?" Daphne suggested.
Santana cleared her throat and read a card. "Never have I ever..." She shook her head. "We should really head home."
Brittany nodded. "Sky did have a fever earlier, I think that's why she was so clingy."
Santana set her cards down and stood up. "Yeah, thank you both for a lovely night, we'll have to do this again soon."
Yesi nodded. "Absolutely, I hope little cutie feels better." She smiled, grabbing a business card and handing it to Santana. "If you are looking for a gym to join, or want a one on one class, either of you, just call me."
"Thanks." Brittany replied, grabbing the card and linking hands with Santana.
They walked quietly across the street, Brittany leading them straight to the backyard, she went in the garage and into the extra fridge and grabbed two beers opening them before sitting next to Santana on the swinging chair Mr. Lopez bought. They sat quietly, each taking long sips of their drink, before Brittany finally spoke up.
"I would never tell you not to hang out with someone, that's not how I operate." She stated softly. "You know that, I trust you, completely, but I get a bad vibe from Yesi. I know you want to join a gym, but you aren't joining hers or using her as a personal trainer."
"Okay." Santana nodded quickly. "I miss having friends, Britt. I miss the banter of the hospital and feeling like I have something to do during the day, something to look forward to, other than whether or not Sky let's me color with her or makes me do a puzzle." Brittany turned to face her and nodded.
"I think I'm going to look for a job in the next month, and we can start looking for a daycare for Sky next week, so she's used to it."
"Okay." Brittany nodded, pulling her into a kiss. "Thank you for going back to work."
Santana laughed. "What?"
"I want my Santana back, the spark in your eyes is missing, and I know it's because you aren't working, and I don't want Yesi to fill that spark because you're lonely for friends."
"Oh...have I been..."
"No, you've been perfect, but I want you happy, and you are happy when you work." Brittany told her. "Want to head back in, or finish up our date night out here for a little while longer?"
Santana scooted closer to her wife and wrapped her arms around her. "Let's hang out here."
Monday 3:30pm
Taylor ran off the bus and to the front door of the house, she pulled out her key, looking around to make sure no one was close to her and unlocked the door slipping in quicly. After locking the door she went to let the puppies out in the yard, giving them fresh water and picking up their poop before letting them back and giving them a treat. She then check her cell phone, rolling everything else on the text that Santana wanted her to do before she ran up to her bedroom and locked her door. She went to her bathroom and stared at the red hand print on her cheek and finally blinked out her tears as she looked in the mirror. Taylor began to panic and ran to her mothers's bedroom and grabbed Brittany's makeup compact and ran back to her bathroom.
"Taylor!" Santana called as she walked in the house, noticing how quiet it was.
"Tay!" Skylar mimicked, before running to her toys and starting the play.
Santana set down the bags she had from Target on the couch, glancing at Skylar. "Come here, baby." Skylar stared at her toys and picked one up before running to her mother and letting Santana lift her up as she went put the stairs.
Taylor was hiding the compact just as Santana walked in the room, setting Skylar on the bed, she saw the bathroom door slightly opened and walked in. "Taylor, did you get in the house okay?" Santana asked, before freezing when she saw Taylor's face. "What happened?" She asked quickly turning her around and kneeling down.
"Nothing."
Santana narrowed her eyes at her daughter, before softening them when Taylor started to silently cry, tears streaming down, leaving streaks in the chalky makeup she tried to put on. She pulled her into a hug and lifted her in her arms as Brittany, who was home early from work, walked in the room.
"Hey Smiley!" She beamed, kissing Skylar on the cheek, her demeanor dropping when she saw Santana holding Taylor in her arms. "Santana..."
Santana turned slightly so Brittany could see Taylor's face, but didn't say a word. Brittany rubbed her back and grabbed a cleansing cloth from the sink and wiped Taylor's face, removing the makeup, she tapped Santana on the back, so she would carry her to the bed and set her down, which Santana did.
"Tay!" Skylar beamed, jumping up and hugging her sister, Taylor hugging her back right away.
Brittany smiled at the interaction before handing Skylar a stuffed animal to keep her busy, she then focused back on Taylor, glancing at Santana, who ran and got a towel, wetting it with cold water. "Taylor, honey, what happened to your face?"
"Nothing." Taylor whispered.
Santana came back in the bedroom and pressed the towel gently on her cheek. "I know it's cold, sweetie, but I need to pull the heat out of it. You bruise easy like I do."
"Okay." Taylor nodded, looking down at her hands.
"Taylor, you need to tell us what happened." Santana said sternly but gently.
Brittany stared at her daughter, realizing she was overwhelmed and cleared her throat. "Tay, why don't you take a nap honey, does your head hurt at all?"
"No, it's doesn't."
"Okay, why don't you lay down, I'll get you a snack, and you can take a little nap before doing homework and having dinner. Brittany told her, taking the
towel out of Santana's hand and pressing it on Taylor's face, lifting her daughter's hand to hold it herself.
"Brit..."
"Later." She smiled at her wife, grabbing her hand. "Are you going to nap with your Tay?" She asked the baby, who was crawling towards her big sister, nodding a yes.
Santana winked at Skylar as Brittany pulled her out of the room.
"I wanna know who the fuck slapped her." Santana snapped when they reached the kitchen.
"She's clearly upset and shaken up right now, let her calm down." Brittany replied softly, grabbing an ice pack out of the freezer, and a package of apple slices with Carmel. After getting a Capri sun for her, she went up to the bedroom where Taylor was lying down, Skylar cuddled in her chest, babbling a story to her sister while holding a handful of her hair.
Brittany set the snack down on the bed and handed Taylor the ice pack. "When you're ready to tell mommy and me what happened, we'll be downstairs, you aren't in trouble, honey, we just want to know what happened." She assured her, kissing her on the cheek, and leaving the room.
8pm
"Taylor slept through dinner." Santana frowned, loading the dishwasher. "I don't like that."
Brittany glanced at Skylar, who was asleep on a pallet in the living room and wiped down the table. "You checked her temperature and her lungs, she's okay, baby."
"What freakishly storng 4th grader hit her that damn hard?" Santana growled.
"I'm pissed, Brit. It's not like Taylor to not talk to us, she tells us everything."
Brittany quietly continued to wipe down the table as Taylor came walking in, rubbing her eyes. "Are you hungry, Tay?"
"No."
Santana shook her head. "You need to eat something, if you don't want the chicken we had for dinner, at least have some yogurt, okay?"
Taylor shrugged and handed Santana the note in her hand before climbing in the chair at the table, Brittany checking her neck for a fever, and checking her cheek.
After Santana opened the yogurt and handed it to her she hopped on the counter and read the note to herself before handing it to Brittany. "Why did you get into a fight with Brynn?" She asked her daughter. "Everthing was fine a few days ago at the birthday party."
Taylor sniffled as she held a spoonful of yogurt to her mouth and ate it.
"Taylor..." Brittany sighed, bending down and rubbing her back. "Come on and talk to us, honey."
"She was teasing me for having two moms, she said you're going to hell because it's wrong and Jesus says it's wrong in the Bible, so I pushed her and called her a liar, and then she slapped me, and I fell back off the steps." Taylor whispered.
Santana quickly picked Taylor up and lifted her shirt, biting her bottom lip in anger when she saw the small bruise on her daughter's back. She ran her fingers over it gently, checking it for swelling and to see if Taylor flinched,
which she did, before kissing it and blinking out her own tears.
Brittany grabbed another ice pack and placed it on Taylor's back as Santana continued to hug her.
Thoughts?
