SuperKitties: The Cheese Moon Sham

It was a bright sunny morning at the woods outside Kittydale. The Purr N' Play camper was driving down the road. It was a vehicle crafted to bring the fun from Purr N' Play playspace to anywhere on wheels! On its opening day, the Purr N' Play camper would go to the forest, so kids who were camping visited it! When it parked at a clear spot, the camper opened its compartments, revealing all of its fun content: a kitty tower, a kitty playground, a kitty snack bar and a kitty arcade machine! It even had an inflatable kitty on top! Soon after, lots of visitors arrived! The kids played with the kitties inside the camper and had fun. Ginny, Sparks, Buddy and Bitsy were among the kitties.

"Isn't it great?" Ginny asked. "Our first day camping!"

"I can't wait to see what fun stuff we can do at the forest!" Buddy said.

"There are lots of cute animals here!" Bitsy said.

"And before we head to sleep…" Sparks said. "We can read some books!"

"Ooh, what books did you bring, Sparks?" Bitsy asked.

"Classic fairytales, such as The Three Little Pigs, Little Red Riding Hood, the Boy Who Cried Wolf…"

"Hey, all of these have wolves in them, bro!" Buddy said.

"You're right! I love these!" Sparks said.

"Wolves are scary creatures!" Bitsy said. "Aren't there wolves in this part of the woods?"

"Don't worry, Bitsy." Ginny said. "As long as we stay inside this camper, nothing will hurt us."

Ginny rubbed her head against Bitsy's and she felt better. Then, the four kitties resumed their playtime with the kids. Later, when It was getting dark, Amara started a campfire outside and everyone roasted marshmallows and sang songs. Finally, Amara told the kids a spooky story about a werewolf who lived in the woods and loved to snack on kitties who strayed off camps. This story scared the kids so much, that they made sure their pets didn't stray away from the camp. But there was somebody even more spooked by this story: Bitsy! That night, her eyes were wide open and she couldn't sleep. To make matters worse, she heard some howls! Bitsy yowled, startling her friends.

"Bitsy, what happened?" Sparks asked.

"I heard wolves howling out there!"

"There's no risk, Bitsy." Buddy said. "They won't reach us if we're indoors, remember?"

"But what if one of us sleepwalks and goes outside… will the wolves devour us?"

"The story Amara told was just a story, Bitsy! Many of them aren't true." Ginny said.

"Do you really think wolves would eat adorable creatures like us kitties?" Buddy asked.

"Besides, I don't recall anyone of us being able to sleepwalk." Sparks said.

"Oh… that's good, I guess." Bitsy said.

"Come on. When have we failed you?" Ginny asked, lovingly nudging Bitsy.

Suddenly, their collars lit up and went:

"Kitty cat, kitty cat… kitty cat, kitty cat…"

"Its' the SuperKitty call!" they said.

The SuperKitties hid so they could suit up.

"Sparks, power up the portable SuperKitty Comm. Let's find out who needs our help."

Sparks pulled out a laptop shaped like a kitty face and turned it on. Pickles's face appeared on screen.

"Hi, SuperKitties." He said.

"Pickles?" Ginny asked. "Why do you call us so late at night?"

"I'm sorry, but something weird has happened to my human's sandwiches! Look! All of them used to have cheese, but now it's gone!"

"And why are you peeking into your human's sandwiches?"

"I was craving for a midnight snack. But it's not the same without the cheese!"

Suddenly, they received another call.

"SuperKitties, look at my owner's nacho cheese bottle!" Frankie the dachshund said. "It's all empty! Now how am I gonna enjoy my dinner hot dogs?"

"Looks like someone else is hungry at this hour of the night!" Sparks said.

Another pet called. It was Boomer.

"SuperKitties, my human's bacon cheese bombs have no cheese inside! Now they're plain bacon bombs!"

"Well, they're still tasty!" Buddy said.

Many other pets called the SuperKitties, claiming that all of their cheese was gone.

"It's weird." Ginny said. "Why is all cheese disappearing from the humans' lunch?"

"And why are all pets looking for midnight snacks?" Buddy asked.

"There's only one villain who would be able to do this…" Ginny said.

"The wolves?!" Ginny asked.

"Uh… no."

"Cat Burglar?" Sparks asked.

"I was thinking of Lab Rat, but Cat Burglar is a good option, too."

"Well, whoever the villain is, we can't let them get away with it, literally!" Buddy said.

"And that's why we're gonna find them! Paws in, SuperKitties! We're brave!"

"We're smart!"

"We're strong!"

"We're kind!"

"SuperKitties, go!"

The SuperKitties went to search for the cheese robber. While they were running under the starry night sky, they heard wolf howls!

"Ginny…?" Bitsy asked.

"Don't worry, Bitsy. The wolves are far away from us."

"And even if they run toward us, our yarn blasters are sure to scare them away!" Sparks said.

"Have courage, Bitsy." Buddy said. "As long as we're together, we won't be hurt by any-"

Suddenly, Buddy bumped into another animal. When he got back up, the SuperKitties found out who it was.

"WOLF!" they screamed.

"No, wait!" the wolf pup said. "I'm not going to hurt you! I was just seeking for my family!"

"You're on a hunt?" Bitsy asked.

"Well, I don't know. They just ran away following the moon and left me alone in our den!"

"Hmmm, I didn't expect this kind of behavior from wolves." Sparks said.

"Neither did I!" the little wolf said. "Can you please help me find my family, cute kitties?"

"Can we trust him, Ginny?"

"Yes, we can. He's just a pup! What's your name?"

"I'm Wilson."

"Okay, Wilson. We'll help you find your family. The cheese thief can wait." Ginny said.

"But how are we gonna find them?" Buddy asked.

"It's easy. Just listen to the howls!"

"I thought wolves howled to scare people." Bitsy said.

"What? No!" Wilson said. "We wolves howl to communicate with our pack members!"

Some howls were heard in the distance.

"There they are! Let's go!" Wilson said.

The SuperKitties and Wilson followed the howling across the night forest. On the way, they had a conversation.

"So, wolves have many ways of communicating beside howling?" Sparks asked.

"Yes! We even bark, growl and whimper like dogs! Let's just say dogs descend from us."

"Really? Wow, I can't even imagine Mr. Puppypaws being a descendant of wolves!" Buddy said.

"And there are many interesting things about wolves you don't know! Let me show you!"

Wilson sang a song to teach the SuperKitties all that wolves could do. During it, Bitsy found out wolves weren't so scary after all. But their song was interrupted when they ran into a herd of elk!

"Elk? What are so many of them doing here?" Ginny asked.

"Hey, little kitties!" one elk said. "Such a peaceful night, isn't it?"

"Now that there are no big bad wolves nearby, we can roam freely and eat all plants we want!"

"Oh, no. This is bad!" Wilson said.

"Is it?" Bitsy asked.

"Yes! Now that there are no wolves hunting around here, many herds of herbivores like them will accumulate, eating lots of plants and possibly damaging the environment!"

"So, when you wolves hunt elk, you also bring balance to the ecosystem?" Buddy asked.

"Yes! Plus, the leftovers of our hunts serve as food for scavenger animals!"

"Oh, that's good!"

"See, Bitsy?" Ginny asked. "When wolves hunt and eat other animals, they do it for nature's sake!"

"That's why we gotta find my pack! Let's hurry!" Wilson said.

Wilson and the SuperKitties resumed their search for his pack. They heard wolf howls again.

"They're getting louder! We're getting close!" Wilson said.

They kept following the howls until they exited the forest. There, the wolves were found, staring at the moon and howling at it.

"Mom, dad, where are you?" Wilson called

He found his parents ahead of the pack.

"Why are you all here?"

"We're looking at the moon, son!" his mother said.

"It looks more beautiful than ever tonight!" his father said.

"And its scent… sniff, sniff, it's wonderful!"

"However, we can't reach it! And that makes us sad."

Wilson's parents howled, and the other wolves howled along.

"I've never seen wolves behaving this weird." Sparks said. "We gotta return to the Purr N' Play camper and investigate!"

"Wilson, stay here with your mom and dad, okay?" Ginny said. "We will come back to help you and your pack."

Back in the Purr N' Play Camper…

"What are we gonna do now?" Bitsy asked.

"We gotta investigate stuff about wolves and find out why are they behaving so strange." Sparks said. "Maybe I brought a book about wolves."

He managed to find one. He flipped the book's pages trying to find some useful information about wolves.

"How much time do we have until we leave?" Ginny asked.

Sparks looked at the calendar.

"The camper will stay in the forest for three days, so we must…"

Then he noticed something strange.

"Guys… today there wasn't supposed to be any moon."

"What do you mean?" Bitsy asked. "We just saw the moon and the wolves howling at it."

"Well, the calendar marks that today there's a new moon, which means the moon is not visible today!"

"Then that means…" Ginny asked.

"The calendar is wrong!" Buddy said.

"No! The moon the wolves were howling at is not the real moon!"

"And did you hear what Wilson's mum said? She said the moon smelled wonderful!" Bitsy said.

"You're right! Normally it would be impossible to smell the moon!"

"And what could wolves love to sniff?"

Then, the SuperKitties remembered what they were looking for before meeting Wilson.

"The cheese!" they said in unison.

"So that's where the cheese has been all this time! We gotta take down that fake moon!" Ginny said.

"Look, guys! The book also says that wolves don't actually howl at the moon! It's just a popular myth among humans!" Sparks said.

"The wolves must be in some kind of trance." Ginny said. "We must free them! If the wolves are lured away from the forest by that fake moon, they will no longer accomplish their role as predators!"

The SuperKitties hurried back toward where Wilson and his pack were.

"There it is" Ginny said. "The fake moon!"

"Sniff, sniff… Yep, it does smell like cheese." Bitsy said.

"What are we wating for? Let's take it down!" Sparks said. "SuperKitty Kit, meow!"

Sparks got on the SuperKitty Kit. But as soon as he flew toward the cheese moon, it suddenly began to float away from him!

"Great, now it turns out that the fake moon can also move by itself!" Buddy said.

The entranced wolf pack ran after the cheese moon.

"Don't let them get away!" Ginny said.

The Super Kitties ran after the wolves and the fake moon.

"Bitsy Boots, blast off!" Bitsy said, speeding up.

She got a head of the wolves, trying to reach the cheese moon. However, there were some logs blocking the way!

"Don't worry, Bitsy! I got you. Furball Blitz!"

Buddy curled up as a ball and rolled toward the logs, breaking them with his incredible strength. Bitsy and the wolves passed freely without getting hurt. Ginny climbed up a tree and jumped toward the cheese moon.

"Paws out, claws out!" she said.

Taking out her claws, she latched upon the fake moon. At that moment, it popped, releasing fireflies and letting out enormous cheese drops on the wolves! Ginny fell, but Sparks managed to catch her on the SuperKitty Kit. When both landed, Bitsy and Buddy caught up with them. The wolves were covered in cheese, but they weren't disgusted at all. On the contrary they were licking their lips and paws.

"I don't know what was going on with us." Wilson's mum said. "But this is delicious!"

"Thank you for this scrumptious gift, little kittens!" Wilson's dad said.

"You're welcome!" Bitsy said.

Ginny looked up. She noticed all of the fireflies that came out of the fake moon.

"Fireflies?" Buddy said.

"Maybe they were the ones who gave light to the cheese moon." Sparks said.

"Ugh!" they heard a grunt coming from the bushes. "Why won't it work anymore?!"

The SuperKitties ran toward the bushes and opened them. Inside there were…

"Lab Rat!" the SuperKitties said.

(LAB RAAAT!)

"I knew it!" Ginny said. "Why did you steal all of that cheese, Lab Rat?"

"And how did you mold it into a giant moon filled with fireflies and make it float?" Buddy asked.

Lab Rat sighed and explained her failed plan.

"As you see, I stole all that cheese and captured those fireflies to create a fake moon and make it float with an anti-gravity beam in order to lure the wolves away from the forest by hypnotizing them with that… delicious cheesy scent!"

"So that's what the wolves were after!" Sparks said. "Not the moon, after all."

"And I did it because… Otto was afraid of wolves."

Otto looked frightened and ashamed.

"Awww…" Bitsy said. "Were you scared of wolves too, Otto?"

Otto nodded yes.

"Aw, come on. There's no need to be scared!" Wilson said. "We wolves are wonderful creatures! I'll show you why!"

Wilson reprised his song to show Otto all the cool things about wolves. The SuperKitties, the wolf pack and even Lab Rat and Otto started dancing to it! Thus, Otto overcame his fear of wolves.

"Great work, SuperKitties!" Ginyy said. "Now that the wolves are free, they can return to the forest and continue their role in the cycle of nature."

When the wolves returned to their home at the forest, they resumed their role as predators and chased the elk away. Afterward, the wolf pack decided to throw a howl party to thank the SuperKitties for freeing them! Ginny, Buddy, Bitsy and Sparks were moved by this spectacle, even Lab Rat and Otto! Bitsy pulled out her kitty tablet and recorded a blog:

"I and Otto used to be so afraid of wolves, and thought they were ferocious beasts capable of eating anything and anyone on their way! But now I've learned that wolves aren't like that. Wolves are nice creatures who are only accomplishing their role as predators in the forest, helping many other animals and plants in the process! So that's why it is important to take care of wolves and other carnivores. And I'm taking that to heart."

And so, the SuperKitties accomplished their mission, and both wolves and kitties lived happily ever after.
