A/N: Hey guys! This is my first multi chapter storyline for Ace Attorney. I know I wrote that sickfic, but that was mainly a 3 shot. This will be a little more complex than taking care of sick Edgey. So I hope you will enjoy the story!

I own nothing of Ace Attorney except for my ocs!

Phoenix frantically walked back and forth with his hands on his head. He was trying so hard to try and make sense of everything that happened. One minute, the three of them were talking down the street, the next there was a gunshot ringing out and a bullet striking her in the side.

("How could I have let this happen?! She was right there in front of me! I should've been able to protect her and even take the bullet for her if I knew someone was trying to shoot at us!")

Phoenix groaned in frustration at feeling so helpless. He would occasionally look up at the "operation in progress" sign and stare at it as if any time it would go off. When it never happened, Phoenix would just go straight back to pacing.

Meanwhile, Edgeworth was sitting in one of the plastic chairs, staring at the floor in a daze. He was currently trying to process everything that's happened. It was just a normal evening. He's known about traumatic events and how quickly it could happen, but he wasn't expecting another incident with someone being shot in front of him again.

He avoided looking at her blood that was still clinging onto his long sleeve white shirt. He didn't have his signature red blazer on to cover the blood. That itself was covered in her blood and was with the paramedics.

Even though his hands were cleaned, he would occasionally imagine that blood on his hands. Hence why he avoided looking at his hands or the dry blood on his shirt. His cravat wasn't neatly aligned either. He hasn't even bothered to fix it since the moment she got shot…and that was hours ago.

He hardly remembers the past few hours since he's been stuck in a daze the entire time. The only thing that was consistent was Phoenix's pacing and occasional mumbling.

"How could this have happened?!"

Edgeworth finally snapped out of his daze when he heard Phoenix's sudden outburst.

He finally looked up to see Phoenix basically clutching his head with his pacing.

"She was right there! She was right there and she got hurt! I should've done something! I-!"

"Wright," Edgeworth spoke for the first time since they entered the hospital. "You need to keep it down. Yelling and pacing isn't going to help Maya any more."

Phoenix stopped at the sound of his friend's voice. He then turned to him and only stared at him.

"What is that supposed to mean?"

"I mean you've been pacing around for hours. You really think that's going to help her?"

Phoenix only started, starting to feel anger build up.

"Well what else can I do?! Run in there demanding what her status is?!"

"Of course not. But if you're going to yell, go outside."

Ok now Phoenix was angry.

"Are you kidding me, Edgeworth?! One of my best friends was just shot in front of me and you expect me to be calm about this?! She…she was right there, Edgeworth! Right there!"

"I'm aware of that, Wright. I was there too," Edgeworth said calmly, looking up at him. "But we have to try and keep a level head about this. Panicking and freaking out isn't going to help Maya's condition. Didn't help her back there and it isn't going to help her now."

Phoenix glared at his friend.

"So…you're telling me you're not at all worried about her. Is that it?! You think because you're not extremely close to her, it's ok to just stay calm?! Do you know what that's like, Edgeworth?! To see someone you care about get shot in front of you?! How could you be so damn heartless?!"

He didn't know what was going through his mind at that moment, but Edgeworth just snapped. Next thing Edgeworth knew, he shot up, stomped over to Phoenix, and got two fistfuls of his suit and yanked him so they were looking at each other face to face.

"Heartless? Heartless?! Are you serious, Wright?! Who was the first to try and get the bleeding to stop?! Who was the one who was trying to keep her awake while most likely going into shock?! Who was it that tried to instruct people who couldn't try to help leave the scene?! Who was the one who got blood all over himself?! That's right! It was me, Wright! Me! You're the one calling me heartless, yet I was the one who tried getting her stable while you called for help and then tried to comfort her afterwards!"

Phoenix was stunned. He hasn't gotten this aggressive since the case with Matt Engarde and Shelly de Killer. Phoenix looked at Edgeworth before noticing that his friend's hands were…trembling…?

("Why is he trembling? Is he seriously that angry at me? Maybe I did go too far with calling him heartless. After all he…)"

Phoenix's eyes widened at a realization. Maya's been shot not only in front of him, but also Edgeworth. He saw someone he truly cares about get shot in front of him. Not only that, but he actively tried to stop the bleeding. Edgeworth almost immediately responded after Maya collapsed to help save her.

Something…something he couldn't do for his…oh shit!

"E-Edgeworth?" Phoenix stutters out in concern. "Are you ok? You're trembling and you're looking a bit pale."

Edgeworth glared at Phoenix for a moment before the look of realization slowly began to display on his face. At that moment, Edgeworth realized what he was doing and slowly let go of Phoenix's suit. He then took a step back, took a deep breath, and finally tried adjusting his cravat.

"My apologies, Wright," Edgeworth said. "I spoke out of sorts."

Phoenix frowned at Edgeworth's attempt to cover his obvious anxious demeanor.

"I should be the one who's sorry," Phoenix said. "I spoke without thinking and called you heartless. I shouldn't have done that and I didn't mean that."

"It's fine, Wright," Phoenix could easily tell Edgeworth was really trying to hide something even without the use of the magatama.

Now looking at Edgeworth, he realized something in terms of his stance. He avoided eye contact while gripping his arm. That wasn't an unusual thing for Edgeworth to do especially when he's nervous…but in this stance it looked more like Edgeworth was trying to keep himself together.

"Edgeworth…are you sure you're ok?" Phoenix asked with more concern in his voice.

"I'm fine, Wright," Edgeworth said before standing up straight looking at him. "Besides, I shouldn't be the one to worry about here."

Phoenix looked at Edgeworth before back at the "operation in progress" sign that was still lit up. He sighed. As much as Phoenix wants to talk to Edgeworth about what's really bothering him, he knows he won't get anything out of him right now. He might even cause Edgeworth to have another outburst. Besides Edgeworth is right…Maya should be the main focus right now.

"Do you think she'll be ok?" Phoenix asked.

Edgeworth frowned. "She was bleeding a lot, so I couldn't see where the bullet hit, but I don't think it was anywhere vital. It was lucky it was her side and not her chest or head. It's still worrisome, though, of how much she was bleeding. The bullet might have hit an organ."

Phoenix avoided eye contact. "Y-yea…"

Edgeworth frowned, not knowing what else to say to the man in front of him. He could still feel his hands trembling as he fought hard to fight back the horrible memory of him seeing someone who he cares about getting shot right in front of him. He looked up to say something to Phoenix, when-.

"MR. NIIIICCCCKKKK!"

The two men turned around to see Pearl running up to the two of them, with Gumshoe right behind her, looking like he just ran a marathon.

"Pearls!" Phoenix's eyes widened. "Wh-what are you-?"

"Is Mystic Maya ok?! I heard she got injured!"

Gumshoe finally caught up and was huffing and puffing.

"Sorry, pal," Gumshoe pants. "She heard the news and came running. She's faster than she looks."

Phoenix shook his head. "It's alright. She was going to find out at some point."

"Is she ok, Mr. Nick? It must've been horrible to see your beloved injured like that!"

Phoenix could just see the small smirk on Edgeworth's face from the corner of his eye. He decided to ignore Pearl's romantic fantasy comment.

"She's still in surgery," Phoenix said. "It's been a few hours now and still not a word."

"I would've been here sooner pal, but once I got word, they wanted me on the scene. I had to talk with some of the people who were in the area when it happened. My only question is, who would be willing to shoot a gun with a lot of people?"

"Isn't it obvious, detective?" Edgeworth asked with his arms crossed and tapping his upper arm with his pointer finger. "It was obviously a snipper. Just like the time Franziska was shot in the shoulder by de Killer."

"A sniper?!" Gumshoe exclaimed. "C-could it be the same killer?!"

"I highly doubt it. I don't believe anyone had it out for Maya. Even then, de Killer wouldn't be so reckless as to shoot with a crowd there even if Maya was his target, which I doubt."

Gumshoe frowned. "Could it be the person who was aiming for someone else?"

Edgeworth thought for a moment. "It's possible. Although it still feels very targeted. I mean, Maya was the only one who was shot. There were a decent amount of people in the street and if the shooter wanted to, they would have shot more than one person."

"But why Maya?!" Phoenix suddenly exclaims. "Why her of all people?!"

"I don't know Wright!" Edgeworth sighed in annoyance. "But we'll figure it out."

"In any case," Gumshoe said. "I'm just glad you two are ok."

Edgeworth looked away once again, gripping his arm while Phoenix ran his hand through his stiffly spiked hair nervously.

"Mr. Nick?" Pearl's small voice came in and Phoenix looked down to see her right next to him. "W-what…exactly happened with Mystic Maya? You keep talking about different things that happened but…what happened?"

Phoenix just looked at Pearl, debating if right now would be a good idea.

"I'd like to know too, pal," Gumshoe said. "We've talked with most of the witnesses and you two are the main witnesses from what I've heard."

Phoenix looked between Gumshoe and Pearl debating what to say.

"Well I'm going to get some air for a bit," Edgeworth said and Phoenix looked over to see his hands were now noticeably trembling and he paled considerably. "I'll give my side of the event later."

Gumshoe only frowned looking at him before sighing and nodding. He could tell that Edgeworth simply just needed his space right now. "A-alright sir."

Edgeworth nodded and walked off. As much as Phoenix wanted to chase after him to see if he was ok, he also knew Edgeworth needed space right now. Besides…he couldn't leave Pearl alone right now. Not when she's scared of how Maya is doing. He was scared himself, but knew he had to be strong for Pearl.

"Start talking pal!" Gumshoe says. "What happened?"

Phoenix sighed. "Well…it started a few hours ago…

"NIIIIICCCCCKKKKKKK!" Maya exclaims as she throws open the doors in their office.

Phoenix jumps in surprise with some papers scattering before frantically looking up at Maya.

"M-Maya?! What is it?"

"There's a new burger joint that just opened! We need to go try their burgers!"

Phoenix then just gave her a deadpan

look.

"It's not another Fatdonald's is it?"

"Nooo of course not!" Maya giggled. "It's a new local burger place!"

Phoenix raised an eyebrow "What's it called and how expensive is it? I barely have enough to pay rent this month."

"Wellll the most expensive is 20 bucks! Surely you can afford that!"

Phoenix sighed. How did he know he would be the one who's paying even though she was the one who suggested it?

He looked at the time. It was almost 5:30 and it was already getting dark outside. Phoenix sighed as he looked back up at Maya.

"Give me a few minutes and we'll head out."

Maya smiled in satisfaction and nodded.

"Alright! You better hurry up so we can get a good seat!"

And then with that she ran out. Phoenix sighed.

("It's a Wednesday night at the end of fall. How busy does she think it'll get?")

It didn't take long after that before Phoenix finished what he needed to get done and met with Maya in the hallway and together they set out.

"So what exactly is this burger place?" Phoenix asked after a few minutes.

"Oh! It's called Mr. Burger's Treats! I heard it's really really good!"

("Apparently not good enough to come up with a better name.")

"So what do they have besides burgers?" Phoenix rolled his eyes.

"Hot dogs and fries obviously! They also have shakes, pulled pork, BBQ, and so on! They even have different combos!"

"So…basically like every other burger joint you've dragged me to."

"No! This one is local! That means it's only in our area!"

"I know what local means, Maya. It's just…ugh never mind. Let's just get your burger and-."

"Hey! Is that Mr. Edgeworth?" Maya pointed across the street.

Phoenix looked over to see it was indeed Edgeworth. He was holding his suitcase as he faced forward with that stoic look on his face.

"Hm. I wonder what he's doing in this part of town. His office is in the opposite direction."

"Why don't we find out?" Maya smirks before taking off. "Hey, Mr. Edgeworth!"

"Maya!" Phoenix groans as he chases after her.

Edgeworth stopped in his tracks and looked over to see Maya running in his direction, with Phoenix right behind her. Edgeworth only sighed.

("Of course by unfortunate luck I run into these two.")

Edgeworth only watched as Maya and Phoenix ran closer to him until they were a few feet away from him. Phoenix, of course, being out of breath while Maya looked like she could run a marathon.

"S-sorry Edgeworth," Phoenix panted. "She took off before I could stop her."

Edgeworth raised an eyebrow before sighing. "It's fine, Wright. But what are you two doing here?"

It was now Phoenix's turn to raise an eyebrow.

"Well my office is in this area. I think I should ask what you are doing here? Your office is in the other direction. Please don't tell me you walked to work!"

"Don't be absurd, Wright!" Edgeworth grunted. "If you must know, I had a meeting with someone."

"Who would that be?" Phoenix pressed.

"I don't see how that's any of your business."

Maya smirks. "Are you meeting with someone specialllll?"

Immediately Edgeworth's face went red. "D-don't be ridiculous, Maya! I have no interest in anyone. Besides, I spoke with someone about a certain case. And before you ask, that's nothing I can tell the two of you."

Phoenix only glares at Maya before his attention goes back to Edgeworth.

"Alright then. So…how did it go?"

"It went as well as it usually goes. But anyway I digress. Where are you two going?"

"Nick is taking me to the new burger place!" Maya exclaims before Phoenix had the chance to suck in a breath.

Phoenix looked just about done as he looked over at Maya, then at Edgeworth who was raising an eyebrow.

"Aren't you already low on money, Wright? I don't think you can afford to pay for more takeout."

Phoenix sighed. "It wasn't my decision. She's just making me drag her to the burger place."

"You know, if you keep giving into her demands Wright, you'll only get yourself into debt. No amount of cases can get you out of that."

Phoenix only glared at Edgeworth.

"Hey! I have an idea! Let's all walk together! Since we're all going in the same direction!" Maya exclaims.

Edgeworth shrugs. "My car is this way anyway so I don't see why not."

"As long as you don't lecture me about my finances," Phoenix mutters.

The three of them begin walking down the street together. The source of light being the many street lamps and building lights as it was dark now.

"So…" Phoenix said after about a minute or two. "What is this case you have? Is it another murder case?"

Edgeworth only gave Phoenix a look. "I told you I can't give you anything specific, Wright!"

"I'm not asking anything specific. I'm just asking if it's another murder case."

Edgeworth sighs. "No. It's a theft case. I was mainly just talking with a witness. That is all."

"Ah I see," Phoenix nods.

"You're always working. Mr. Edgeworth!" Maya exclaims as she looks back at the two. "You need to take the time to just relax!"

"Unlike the two of you, I actually take my job with the utmost respect and seriousness! It is my duty to find the truth after all."

"Well yeeeeaaaa but man you would sometimes have those bags under your eyes. You don't really sleep much do ya?"

Edgeworth only gave Maya a stern look, even if what she's said is true.

"She has a point, Edgeworth. You've been working a lot lately. You're gonna make yourself sick."

Edgeworth then glared at Phoenix. "I don't believe I asked for your-!"

Edgeworth was cut off by the sound of a gunshot. He knew that sound all too well. As soon as the sound rang out, both Phoenix and Edgeworth hit the deck on their knees and covered their heads. The people around them either did the same or screamed and tried to run quickly out of the area.

Both lawyers simultaneously looked ahead to where Maya was standing just in time to see her collapse to the ground. They both stared in shock as they saw the quickly spreading pool of blood that was growing under her. They both stiffened at the sight. Phoenix looked horrified and Edgeworth looked completely shocked.

It didn't take more than a few moments for Edgeworth to spring into action. He looked around to make sure it was safe to do so before getting to his feet and rushed the few feet to reach her. He then fell ungraciously on his knees and quickly but carefully rolled Maya onto her back.

His eyes widen for what he saw. Maya looked to have been shot in the left side. Her eyes were clenched shut in pain as her hand was weakly clutching onto the wound. Edgeworth immediately shrugged off his red blazer, balled it up, moved Maya's hand, and pressed it hard against the wound.

Maya's eyes immediately shot open wide eyed for a quick second before clenching them shut again and cried out in pain. Edgeworth could see the tears coming out from her eyes.

"Forgive me, Maya," Edgeworth tried keeping his voice calm. "But I need to try and slow down the bleeding. I need you to stay with me, ok?"

Maya opened her eyes again and looked at Edgeworth with tear filled eyes. Edgeworth was trying to focus on keeping himself calm as well. He'd be damned if he let anyone else close to him die from a gunshot wound right in front of his eyes!

Just then, he remembered that Phoenix hasn't said a word since the gunshot rang out. He quickly snapped his head to where the defense attorney was to see him still frozen in shock with a look of horror on his face.

"Wright!" Edgeworth snapped. "Call for an ambulance!"

Yet Phoenix did not move. Great! Edgeworth didn't want to leave Maya just to snap this idiot out of his trance.

"WRIGHT!" Edgeworth screamed louder.

Phoenix blinked as he was snapped out of his frozen shock.

"W-what?"

"Call for an ambulance now!"

"U-uh…right!"

Phoenix stood to his feet and quickly got out his phone to call an ambulance. Edgeworth's attention was about to go back to Maya, when he noticed a crowd starting to form…great! Of course the gun shot had to happen in front of a crowd of people.

("Speaking of which…it looks like this was targeted. Maya was the only one shot and yet there's a crowd of people. What is going on?!")

"Anyone who can't help, stand back!" Edgeworth announced to everyone. "She needs room! The shooter can still be around and who knows what their motive is! We don't need any casualties!"

Everyone looked at each other before beginning to back up a little. Edgeworth's attention went back to Maya, who was becoming more pale by the second. Her breathing was getting more pained and shallow as she continued to bleed. Edgeworth was trying hard not to pay attention to his blood stained hands in his now blood stained blazer.

"M-Mr. Edgeworth…" Maya spoke weakly. "I…"

"Don't speak. Just try and focus on your breathing. You need to try and keep your eyes open for me, ok?"

Maya couldn't help but notice how gentle Edgeworth sounded. She wasn't sure if it was because she was delirious from the pain or she just enjoyed hearing Edgeworth being gentle.

"I-is Nick…o-ok…?"

Edgeworth nodded. "He's fine. As am I. Wright's calling for help right now. Just stay with me, alright?"

Edgeworth didn't like how pale Maya was quickly getting. He feared she could potentially go into shock from the injury. That would not be good.

"Edgeworth!" He heard Phoenix called out and looked to see him running back towards the two of them. "The ambulance will be here soon! How is she?!"

Edgeworth looked at him grimly. "Not too well, Wright. I'm afraid she might go into shock if we don't get everything under control."

"Well how do we do that?!"

Edgeworth looked back down at Maya, who was looking more sluggish by the second. Maya's consciousness was fading and it was fading fast.

"N-Nick…?" Maya's speech began to slur.

Phoenix quickly looked at Maya as tears threatened to leave his eyes.

"I-I'm right here, Maya! Y-you're going to be just fine!"

"I…I…don't…"

Maya's breathing was getting increasingly irregular.

"Focus on your breathing, Maya," Edgeworth says. "Speaking will only make you more exhausted."

Phoenix continued to try and mutter comfort words to Maya as Edgeworth looked up to look for an ambulance. Just then, there were some movements from the crowd and eventually a woman came out in their views.

She was wearing a turtleneck shirt and her hair was up in a ponytail with a bow in it. She also had glasses on and her sapphire blue eyes stared at the scene. She also looked to be in her mid to late 20s. Edgeworth only stared at her for a second before speaking up.

"Ma'am, you need to stand back! She needs sp-!"

"My apologies sir, but I believe I can be of some help. I'm an off duty EMT."

Phoenix immediately looked up as Edgeworth only stared. After a moment, Edgeworth gave a nod.

"That would be most appreciated Ms…?"

"Ava Harper," Ava gave a nod.

"Miles Edgeworth," Edgeworth introduced back.

"Phoenix Wright," Phoenix said, looking back at Maya. "A-and this is Maya Fey."

Ava quickly joins the two men on the ground and starts to examine Maya's side. She made a mental note about Edgeworth's blazer on the gunshot wound. She looked at Maya to see her on the verge of passing out. Her breathing was heavy but shallow. There were definitely signs she's on the verge of going into shock.

Ava quickly looked in her bag for any potential first aid items she would usually carry. She already knows that band-aids would be completely useless. She was hoping she would have some kind of tourniquet to use to help with the bleeding since Edgeworth's blazer was dripping in blood. Unfortunately, she couldn't find one that would be big enough.

The young EMT looked back at the two men. Phoenix was holding onto Maya's hand while muttering comforting words to her. Edgeworth was still putting pressure on his blood soaked jacket. However, she quickly noticed how pale Edgeworth's face had gotten. So much so she has seen this before someone passed out. She's seen this happen with witnesses before. Ava only hoped Edgeworth wasn't on the verge of going into shock too.

All Ava could find in her back were some gauzes and some masking tape. It wasn't much, but it would have to do for now until the ambulance arrives. She quickly rushes over and sits next to Edgeworth, who was still putting pressure on the wound.

"Mr. Edgeworth?" Ava spoke up.

Edgeworth's focus slowly went to Ava.

"Yes Ms. Harper?"

"I…didn't have much supplies in my bag, but I found some masking tape and gauze. I know they won't be too much help, but it's something at least."

Edgeworth stared at Ava for a moment before nodding.

"I see. Thank you, Ms. Harper." He goes to reach for the supplies but she holds them away from him a little.

"I can do it, Mr. Edgeworth. I'm used to treating injuries. Besides…you're looking a little pale. Are you ok?"

At this moment, Phoenix looked up towards the EMT and prosecutor and found Ava was right. Edgeworth did look pale.

"I'm fine," Edgeworth said after a moment.

"Mr. Edgeworth…I can take care of Ms. Fey from here. I've had my fair share of seeing bloody injuries so I'm used to it. Why don't you go take a break?"

Edgeworth stiffened as he looked down at Maya, who looked like she was still conscious but completely disoriented and unaware of anything that was going on. He then looked back at Ava.

"I'm fine, Ms. Harper really. I'm a prosecutor so I'm also used to seeing various crime scenes as well."

Ava only frowned at Edgeworth's stubborn refusal, but decided to drop it for now. There was no time to argue or fret about it for the time being.

"Fine. But let me know if you need to step away to collect yourself," she then eyes Phoenix. "That goes for you too, Mr. Wright!"

Phoenix wordlessly nods, keeping his gaze on Maya. Ava kept an eye on Maya and the two men. Phoenix still looked to be in shock (which is normal) mixed with worry and panic. Edgeworth still had a firm grip on his jacket that's pressed against the wound, but she could see his hand trembling slightly. She could also hear his breathing being slightly irregular. It almost seemed like he was trying to keep himself together.

(I'll have to remember to check on both of them later; especially Mr. Edgeworth.")

Ava sat next to Edgeworth and tried to organize her gauze. She got her gloves out from when she was searching through her bag and put them out.

"Ok, Mr. Edgeworth. I'm going to need you to move the jacket. I'm going to at least try to temporarily wrap the wound."

Edgeworth looked conflicted between Ava and Maya. Ava saw the uncertainty on his face and placed a hand on what she noticed was her slightly trembling shoulder.

"Mr. Edgeworth, please. I know it may be hard for you, but trust me. I'm fully qualified to take care of these types of injuries."

Edgeworth looked back down at Maya before taking a deep breath.

"Ok."

"Alright. Move the jacket on three. One…two…three!"

Edgeworth quickly removed the blazer from the wound and Ava quickly put several gauzes on Maya's wound. Maya flinched and whimpered slightly but otherwise didn't move too much. Phoenix lightly squeezed her hand.

"It'll be ok…!" Phoenix gently spoke to her, trying to keep his voice calm and trying not to cry. "Help will be here soon! J-just stay with me, alright?!"

"N-Nick…" Her voice was barely above a whisper.

"I-I promise to get you that burger once you're feeling better."

"...h-hurts…Nick…"

"I-I know. Just hang on for me ok?"

"Ms. Fey," Ava says gently. "What I'm about to do may hurt, but it'll help you, ok?"

Maya only weakly nods as Ava puts more pressure on the wound to tape it up with her masking tape. Maya only whimpered weakly as she had no more strength to scream out. She clung onto Phoenix's hand slightly tighter and Phoenix laid his other hand on top of hers.

("How could this have happened?! One minute she was dragging me to get some burgers and then the next…")

"N-Nick…"

Phoenix looked down to see Maya's drooping eyes staring at him.

"I-I'm…tired…N-Nick…"

Oh no…

"Don't fall asleep," Phoenix's voice strained from trying to not cry. "Please…"

Edgeworth saw Maya's condition and saw she wasn't going to stay awake much longer no matter the willpower Maya was trying to put in it. Her consciousness was fading fast.

"Wright," he said and Phoenix looked up. "How long did the operator say the ambulance will take to get here?"

"W-well…5-10 minutes b-but…" Phoenix looked out at the crowd of people. "I'm afraid they'll take longer due to what just happened."

"Plus we don't know if anyone else has been injured that we don't know about. We haven't heard any gunshots, but that doesn't mean there isn't a silencer on the gun."

"I'll stay behind to check if anyone else has been injured," Ava said. "Besides, if it's a shooting, the police will probably show up too. I'll stay to give my statement too. You two seem to know her pretty well so you'll probably want to get to the hospital with her."

Edgeworth looked at Wright. "You're going in that ambulance with her if they allow it. You're closer to her than I am. Besides, it seems like-."

"Ms. Fey!" Ava suddenly yelled out, cutting Edgeworth off.

Both men looked over to see Maya's eyes in slits..

"M-Maya! No! You gotta keep your eyes open! Please! It's just a little longer!"

Maya slightly glanced at Phoenix before her eyes fluttered closed. Phoenix and Edgeworth froze while Ava quickly went to check for a pulse.

"M-Maya…" Phoenix muttered as the tears began forming in his eyes. "MAYA! Nonononono! Maya! Maya, wake up! Open your eyes!"

In his panic, he began shaking her as he choked on his own sobs.

"Mr. Wright!" Ava says firmly. "Shaking her isn't going to help her! She's only passed out. She has a pulse."

Phoenix only stared at her before groaning loudly.

"Where the hell is that damn ambulance?! They are taking too damn long!"

"Wright!" Edgeworth says sharply as he knelt down next to him. "You need to try and pull yourself together!"

Phoenix only glared at him and was about to argue, when Edgeworth continued.

"You have to understand that panicking in this type of situation isn't going to help anything," he sighed, sounding much more calmer and considerate. "She most likely fainted from blood loss. We have to try and keep a level head, Wright."

Phoenix stared at Edgeworth and was about to speak up, but he was cut off by the sound of ambulance sirens.

"Oh thank God!" Phoenix exclaimed as he looked towards the sound.

Edgeworth looked back towards Ava to see her covering Maya with her sweater. She was only wearing an undershirt under her sweater.

"M-Ms. Harper," Edgeworth says. "You should allow me to cover her up. You'll catch a cold."

Ava looked up and shook her head. "It's nothing. I don't get cold that easily. I'm actually used to it. Besides, your jacket is covered in blood is it not? That won't really be too sanitary for her."

Edgeworth goes to speak up but stops. She…does have a point.

"Is she in shock?"

Ava looked down at Maya to see she was in fact shaking, pale, and her breathing was erratic.

"Most likely," Ava sighs. "But the ambulance is close, so they'll be able to take care of it."

Edgeworth nods as he looks down at Maya before quickly averting his eyes when he feels a bit of panic begin to rise in him. Ava seemed to notice.

"Mr. Edgeworth, are you sure you're-?"

"She's over here!" Phoenix cut her off, guiding one of the paramedics to where Maya was laying.

As Phoenix and the lone paramedic made their way through, the paramedic looked at Ava and Edgeworth.

"Ok, everyone move out of the way!"

Ava and Edgeworth complied easily as they quickly scattered out of the way. A few seconds later, 3 more paramedics came rushing in; two of them handling a gurney. The one who wasn't handling the gurney, went up to the three of them.

"Can anyone explain to me the current situation?"

Ava spoke up before the attorneys could.

"I'm an off duty EMT, sir. She's lost a good amount of blood and she remained conscious up until 2 or 3 minutes ago. I've tried to use what I could to help the bleeding," she then looked at Edgeworth. "This young man was using his jacket prior to me trying to bandage up the wound. There's a very high probability that she's in shock."

The 3 men looked at her and that's when Ava realized what she did. She felt her face go hot from embarrassment.

("Agh! Force of habit!")

"Apologies. It's something that I've grown used to doing."

The paramedic chuckled. "It's ok. I completely understand that much."

Ava smiled sheepishly before the paramedic's attention went to Phoenix and Edgeworth.

"So, you were the one who was trying to slow down the bleeding?" the paramedic asked Edgeworth.

"Yes sir," Edgeworth nods. "I…guess you can say that's a habit for me too."

Both Phoenix and Ava looked at him, but stayed quiet. Now wasn't the time to question him on that part.

"I see," the paramedic nodded. "So this is what's going to happen. One of you can ride in the ambulance with her. The other two will have to find their own way to the hospital if you guys are keen on going."

Edgeworth immediately looked at Phoenix.

"Well, as I said before, Wright. You're going with her."

Usually Phoenix would argue, but he really didn't want to leave her side while she's in this condition.

"Ok…"

The paramedic nodded before looking at Ava and Edgeworth.

"Do the two of you need a ride to the hospital?"

"I'm going to stay back and make sure no one else was injured," Ava said. "I only came on the scene shortly after she was shot."

"I have a car, sir," Edgeworth said.

"Very well," the paramedic nodded before looking back to his colleagues to see them rolling the gurney towards the ambulance.

The paramedic looked at Phoenix as he took a step back.

"Are you coming with us, Mr…?

"Phoenix Wright," he said. "A-and yes I am."

The paramedic nodded. "Come along then Mr. Wright."

Both Phoenix and the paramedic climbed into the back of the ambulance once Maya was situated. Once the doors were closed, the ambulance took off.

*present*

"And then when we got to the hospital, they wheeled her into the operating room and she's been in there ever since," Phoenix finished while avoiding eye contact with Gumshoe and Pearl.

They were both silent and Pearl was tearing up.

"M-Mystic Maya…!" Pearl cried. "Why would someone be so cruel to hurt you like that? Especially in front of your beloved!"

Phoenix again chose to ignore that comment because now was not the time to correct her.

"We aren't sure either," Phoenix said before looking at Gumshoe. "And no one has found the person yet. But I do want to ask something, pal."

"What is it?"

"Does…Ms. Fey have anyone she's had a rough time with? As Mr. Edgeworth told us, and most of the police department, we believe that this was a targeted shooting because luckily no one else was shot or injured."

Phoenix thought for a moment. Was there anyone with bad blood out for Maya? Well…he knows there was her aunt, but she's locked away in prison. But unless she could've somehow told someone to shoot her without anyone knowing potentially listening in knowing, she couldn't have been the one to do it.

"N-not that I know of," Phoenix said. "Unless there's something she's not telling me, I don't think so."

"I see," Gumshoe rubs the back of his neck. "Why don't you go get some air, pal? You've been in here worried yea? Fresh air will do ya good!"

"I…I can't! What if-?!"

"We'll stay here and wait, pal. I'll call ya if the doctors come out with news."

Phoenix looked at Pearl who nodded.

"G-go ahead Mr. Nick. I'll let you know when Mystic Maya recovers!"

Phoenix only stares at the two of them before nodding.

"O-ok. But please let me know if you hear anything!"

"Sure thing pal!"

Phoenix nods as he turns to make his way outside to get his much needed fresh air.

("Please…please be ok Maya…")
