Chapter 4

Trixie's Pov:

Peg finished telling me about everything that had happened, and once again, Tramp had brought me into a state of shock. Now, we still don't know the whole story, but from what I got, he gets arrested with some high-class girl, gets her pregnant, and most likely marries her, and now is living the high life with his new armpiece and snooty new friends.

"That self-centered bastard" is all I can say. Sure, when we were young and dumb, we were expected to all be stupid, but at least I grew out of it. He still got to be the same immature boy and profit from it. Just when I was finally ready to let him into our son's life, well, at least he showed his true colors before I did that. We haven't needed him these past 4 years, and we definitely don't need him now.

"No, Peg, our timing was perfect." I gulp down the last of my wine and jump up, careful about Tommy. "This just proves that he'll always be the same person. Remind me, how long was he with Fifi before moving on to the next girl?"

"Maybe 8 weeks, then he went with Gemma for 2 days before moving onto-"

"Exactly!" I interrupted her list, causing her to jump a bit, but I was too focused to care right now, "It's always what suits him best; now that this new girl can give him something, he'll stay with her till she's not. Just like the rest of us, no one is special to him."

"Trixie, it's not too late; we can find him and tell him about Tommy; it's his son. He should be responsible."

"Maybe, but he doesn't deserve it. Not when I'm the one who has been putting in all the work. This is my son. NOT his." I take a few deep breaths to calm down. Getting worked up won't help anyone now; I pick up Tommy and take him to Peg's room to tuck him in, "Thank you for letting us stay here, Peg; I mean it, really. I'm going to put this one down, no; I'll see you in the morning, goodnight."

"Goodnight Trix." I look at my clock on the wall, seeing it's 1 in the morning, and I decide I'll get some sleep; changing into my nightgown, I put my hair up, wash off my makeup, and blow out my candles before crashing on the couch.

I wake up to the sound of the train whistling. It's loud and annoying, and I hate it for bringing me out of my slumber, but it is quickly replaced with a more pleasant sound of my son laughing.

"Mama, mama, wake up."

Keeping my eyes closed, I turn to him, laughing, "And who says I'm not awake, sweet boy."

"Your eyes are closed." He places his little hands on my cheek, and I can feel his breath. I blow raspberries at him, causing him to fall into a laughing fit. "Mama, noooooooo!" But he's still laughing.

"All right, I'm up, see!" I open my eyes and grab his hands, bringing them to my lips to kiss them. He quickly wiggles out and starts jumping on the bed. "Hang on, not so fast, you little monkey." I grab and hold him close, hoping to slow down some of his energy. "What gotten into you love?" I ask.

"I can't help it. I'm excited about today. When are we going to see daddy?" and with that innocent question, I am brought back into reality. I knew I shouldn't have told him this was his Father's hometown. I was just so hopeful. I sit up and pat down on my lap, and as he sits down, he can tell that this won't be an easy conversation.

"We're not going to see your dad today, bud...or ever."

"What, why? Was it something I did? Does he not want me?" He is on the verge of tears, and I'm quick to comfort him.

"No baby, that's not it; you are amazing ." I start wiping his tears away, "It's him. He doesn't deserve us, so he won't be our life. Because you deserve so much better than him." I finish it with a big kiss on his cheek, and I can only hope he understands.

"Now come on, love, let's go say good morning to my friend Peg. You remember her right."

"Yeah, she seems nice," He mumbles, obviously still down.

"Well, how about we meet more of Mummy's friends? Yeah, wouldn't that be nice? We can do some fun things too, like go to the duck pound I used to play in as a kid." That cheers him up, but he is still slightly bumped out. We leave the bed and walk into the heart of the apartment, the living/kitchen/dining room, with Peg setting up our breakfast, some bread, and jam.

"Good morning, Trix. Good morning, Tommy. How did you sleep?" She asks.

"Yes, we did, Peg, thank you. Tommy, What do we say?"

"Good morning, and thank you, Miss Peg?"

"Aren't, you're just the cutest thing," she pinches his cheek, causing him to giggle. "Well, you welcome, and Peg is just fine; it's what all my friends call me."

We sit around the table and start eating our food, "So, any plans for today?" Peg asks me

"Well, I'm thinking of introducing Tommy here to the rest of the gang, showing him around where I grew up, then going job and apartment hunting."

"You know you're welcome here for as long as you need. As for job hunting, we would love to have you back. After what happened with Tr...everything, we could really use all hands on deck."

"I don't know Peg, I've got a kid now. Is that really the life I want for him."

"Just letting you know that the offer stands; always choose what is best for your family. Just remember that we turned out pretty good."

We finish our breakfast and start getting ready for the day, changing into our warmer clothes. I help Tommy put on his old snow boots and worn-out gray coat and playfully put on his hat to cover his eyes.

"Mama, I can't see." His laughter brings me pure joy.

"Really now? Are you sure?"

"Yes!" He grabs my hands and lifts up his hat; I look into his beautiful blue eyes and kiss his cheek before we make our way to the Junkyard.

Lady's Pov:

We wake up to the sound of birds chirping, with Tramp's arms wrapped around me and secured around my stomach. I can hear him snoring softly, and I snuggle into his embrace. This little life we have together is perfect, and these moments when we are just in complete peace make it even more special. As I'm getting ready to go back to sleep, I feel a thumping in my belly.

I snap awake, and my hands go directly to my stomach to feel it again. There. Our baby is kicking again, clearly ready to start the day. "Tramp...Tramp." I slightly nudge him so we can share this moment.

"Huh, what..what is it, Pidge." He yawns, clearly not 100% awake yet. I grab his hand and place it where I felt the kicking. He was awake in an instant. "Look at that; it looks like we have a future football player on our hands."

"They definitely have some strong legs," I chuckle, "I just wish-" I'm cut off with a particularly hard kick.

"You okay?" there is some worry in his eyes, and he places his head on my shoulder, leaning into my face.

"I'm fine. Like you said, we have a strong baby on our hands. Looks like they'll be a bit of a handful. Like their dad" I kiss his cheek.

"How about we get some breakfast. Would you like some pancakes in bed or French toast, my love?"

"Mary is off for her sister's wedding, remember? Why don't we go out to eat? I'm sure we'll find something we can enjoy in the town."

"Are you sure you are feeling up to it? I don't want you to exert yourself."

"If there is one thing this baby is telling me, it's that they are ready to start the day. Besides, the doctor says some fresh air might be good for me. We can even go for a walk in the park later. Get some sun, and feed the ducks." I get out of bed, unwrap my hair, and pull a light blue dress from my dresser.

Tramp playfully flops into the bed, groaning. "Come on, Pidge, the weekends are for us to be lazy."

I walk over to him and kiss his forehead before pulling him out of bed. "Come on, let's go; these are our last few months before our whole life revolves around a helpless little baby. I want us to enjoy this beautiful Autumn weather, just the two of us." We have a small, playful stare-off, and he gives me a quick peck and says, "As always. You win, Pidge."
