There was only but a week left till the Day of Unity and everyone in the lair were practicing fighting. Pacifica was in a sparring fight with General Yunan.
"I'm telling you Atlantica, the book and ketchup technique works!" Yunan exclaimed.
Pacifica groaned in annoyance. "Will you stop going on about it?! And it's Pacifica!"
Yunan then threw a knife at her, causing her to duck, causing it to impale Hooty in the side. "Ow!" Hooty exclaimed in pain. "Yunan, watch yourself." He removed the knife from his side and placed it with all the other knives that impaled him.
Raine and Darius were in an argument about the team name. "Whispers, the name is stupid?!"
"Well, what would you want it to be?!" Raine argued. "A Bunch of Witches and Humans Against the Throne?! How can you shorten that into an acronym?"
"Or just no team name whatsoever!" Darius exclaimed.
"Because in the future, when our names are written in history books, I want us to be known as the CATs not as a bunch witches and humans who stopped Belos." Raine said.
"But CATs would imply that there are cats involved!"
"It's a team in all caps, how can you not see this?!"
"Plus, might I remind you that hardly of us are in any Coven so the name is technically misleading." Darius folded his arms with a smug look on his face.
Raine thought about the name and then sighed. "Okay, you have a good point. I'm gonna need a new name."
"Or, no name whatsoever." Darius retorted.
Suddenly, Marcy, whom was running for a sparring lesson with Sasha, tripped into the two with a yelp and a tumble to the ground.
They groaned over the impact until Darius angrily shot up. "What the heck?! Why can't you watch where you're going?!"
Marcy giggled a bit. "Sorry. My shoelace was untied." Marcy lifted her foot and saw that she didn't have any laces on her shoe. "Oh crud, I must have stepped on them too hard."
Raine found the lace that Marcy lost immediately and pulled out their violin. "Hold still."
"I'm not hurt." Marcy assured them. "I mean, maybe a scratch or a bruise but definitely not worth giving medical attention over."
Raine began playing their violin which was beginning to make the shoelace move on its own, with the aglet leading it. They controlled the lace to thread through the eyelet until it was perfectly fitted.
Marcy stared at the moment in wonder and amazement. "Wow! Thanks Whispers." Marcy took a bow.
"My pleasure, Master Marcy." They bowed with her while Darius cringed.
"This is what I believe humans call, cringe." Darius said.
"Hey Whispers, question: Can non magical creatures use your instruments?" Marcy asked.
"Well, they can but they can't control magic like we can, they can only cause some form of destructive powers." Raine said. "Like a flamethrower or shoot electricity. We were about to use them for our raid against the Emperor but we realised two things. A: They were too dangerous and B: We just barley used them so robbing my ex teacher and watching Hooty devouring him alive was completely unnecessary."
"I am forever haunted by this action!" Hooty exclaimed. "Hoot!"
"Anyway, me and Darius were just discussing a name for our team." Raine said.
"I don't want one." Darius stated.
"I realised that Covens Against the Throne doesn't sound inclusive to those who are not in Covens. What do you think?"
"Well, my team is known as Fellowship of the Isles." Marcy said. "So, how about we're…."
"No, this sounds even worse!" Darius said.
"How about, the Fellowship Against the Throne?!" Marcy's suggestion made Raine impressed while Darius was already preparing to scream 'no'. "Or for short…."
"This is worst than the last!" Darius exclaimed.
"The FATs!" Marcy did a hiss.
Darius was holding his nose in-between his index finger and thumb while shaking his head while Raine had a nervous smile on their face.
"Okay Raine, you can keep CATs." Darius said.
"Yeah Marcy, I think I'll stick to CATs." Raine said, agreeing with Darius for once about the name.
"Why, what's wrong with FATs?" Marcy's eyes went wide as she was hit with the sudden realisation. "Oh, that's what's wrong. Okay, I'm gonna go train with Sasha."
"Okay, good luck." Raine said.
Marcy began to walk away until she suddenly tripped again. "Ow! Forgot to tie my shoelace!"
During Marcy's walk, she walked past Steve and the other CATs members whom were all talking to Lilith.
"Hey Marcy." Lilith greeted.
"Oh hey, Lilly-Anne." Marcy greeted back.
"It's Lilith."
"Right, right."
"You going to train with Sasha?" Lilith queried.
"Yup. How's Luz doing with her Palisman?" Marcy asked before hearing Luz's scream.
"Sounds like she cut herself again." Lilith remarked.
"So, Raine told me about that one time you had your hand possessed." Marcy said. "Was it true?"
"Oh yes." Lilith said. "That's how we learnt of the Day of Unity. I think when Granem possessed my hand, he was connected to the other people he had possessed so that's how he learnt of the Day of Unity and who else was possessed which included Hunter and Pacifica."
"Oh yeah." Marcy said. "Luz used her Calamity powers to destroy the one in Pacifica's stomach therefore destroying everyone's."
Lilith was surprised. "Wait, Luz saved me? I ought to thank her for freeing me."
"Do you know what it was like to be possessed?" Marcy asked.
"Well, when it was my hand, it was absolutely awful." Lilith said. "I was fighting it. Like being cursed wasn't hard enough." She took a gulp of an elixir.
"What about you, Marcy?" Steve asked. "What was being possessed like?"
Marcy froze and began sweating after Steve asked her that question. She heard the laugh of The Core and looked down to see the sword of King Andrias sticking out of her chest, covered in blood. She began to hyperventilate, struggling to keep her breath.
Lilith narrowed her eyes at Steve in anger. "Steve! Why would you ask them that?! She was just free from it!"
"She asked you!" Steve argued.
"No guys, it's fine!" Marcy assured them. "I just didn't expect the question, that's all." She began walking towards the training area where Sasha was waiting for her while Lilith and Steve watched her walk away with concern.
As the ranger walked, she cocked her crossbow to her wrist and thought back to what happened to her. Ever since she was free from The Core and tried readjusting back to things, she had been having visions of The Core and every moment that lead to her possession for the last two weeks. There were nights where she would take hours to sleep due to her racing heart and the nightmarish visions of the Core.
She noted Eberwolf, whom was looking at their reflection through a puddle. They did a flirtatious growl before walking away.
Marcy then began to stare at her reflection and instead of the one staring back at her, it was Darcy. This made Marcy scream and fall on her rear, seeing what she looked like with that mask on. She took a few deep breaths and before standing up and running away from the puddle.
Eventually, she arrived at the training area where Sasha was busy sharping her swords with a piece of sharpening steel. She looked up and smiled at her friend. "Hey Mar-Mar." She noted that Marcy looked terrified and on edge and gave her a concerned look. "You okay?"
Marcy took a deep breath and put on a smile. "I'm fine Sashy. Everything's fine."
"You sure?" Sasha asked. "We can hold off sparring if you want."
"No! No! Sashy." Marcy assured her. "I got this."
"You sure Mar-Mar, because I don't want you to make a mistake." Sasha said.
"On the contrary Sasha, you already made one." Marcy retorted.
"Huh…What?" Before she could react, an arrow was flying straight towards her. Thankfully, Sasha sliced it lengthways before it could hit her.
Marcy loaded another arrow while grinning. "You brought a pair of swords to a crossbow fight."
Sasha grinned at Marcy as she spun her swords. "Okay, show me what you got."
Sasha began charging towards Marcy, whom began to fire a barrage of arrows from her crossbow. Sasha managed to dodge them by ducking and slicing them as well. When she tried to knock Marcy over, the ranger suddenly held her breath and vanished.
Sasha was at first confused but suddenly felt somebody perform a kick to her legs and causing her to fall on her rear and for Marcy to reappear again, smirking.
Sasha playfully narrowed at Marcy. "Hey! No fair!"
"Sorry. I wanted to start practicing Glyphs." Marcy explained.
"Guess you gotta start adapting." Sasha remarked.
"But, during my glyph studies, I discovered you could use glyphs for a variety of things." Marcy explained. "Hand me your sword."
Sasha gave Marcy one of her swords and then, she began to draw on it. Marcy drew a glyph on to her friend's sword and then touched it. This made the sword light up on fire, causing Sasha to stare at it in awe.
"Wow!" She swung it about, impressed and in awe at how beautiful and dangerous it was. "Not bad. What about the other glyphs?"
"Well…."
A few hours ago, Marcy had drawn an ice glyph on the blade of a knife. She activated it, causing it to be frozen in ice. She inspected the frozen blade before gently tapping it on a rock, causing it to shatter into pieces.
Then, she drew a light glyph on the blade of another knife. She was about to activate it until King walked in.
"Hey Marcy, do you have…" Before King could ask the question, Marcy pushed the glyph, causing the blade to be covered in a blinding flash. "Ahh! Bright light! Bright! Bright light!"
Then, she drew an Earth glyph on the blade of another knife. She activated it, causing it to be covered in stone.
Back in the present.
"What was wrong with the stone one?" Sasha asked.
"It looked ugly." Marcy replied. "Plus it shattered on impact."
Sasha grinned at her fire sword. "Man, this is awesome."
"Yeah. Shame I tried one time on my arrows and that set me on fire." Marcy said.
"Speaking of, you're on fire." Sasha pointed to Marcy's cape, which had somehow caught fire.
Marcy screamed and began to run around in a circle. "Oh come on! Sasha! Did you swing too close to me?!"
"I'm sorry I might have!" Sasha quickly placed her flaming sword in a barrel of water, causing it to go out before running up to Marcy and taking the cape off. She quickly dunked the fabric into the water, putting the fire out.
The two eventually sat down to relax after their brief sparring lesson and after Marcy almost got any burn injuries.
Since they had arrived, Sasha had always wondered what was the real reason why Marcy decided to come on this quest.
"Hey Mar-Mar, why did you decide to come on this quest to defeat Belos?" Sasha asked. "I mean, aren't you still recovering?"
Marcy gave Sasha an assuring smile. "I'm fine. I felt like helping Luz save her world after all the work she's done to save me, I feel I should return the favour."
"Is that it?" Sasha asked. "Because last time you said you wanted to make up for what happened."
"Well, that's a reason." Marcy sighed in annoyance. "Look Sasha, am I not allowed to help?!" She stood up.
"Of course you can Mar-Mar but….Ya know, you've just been freed from your possession." Sasha pointed out. "Won't you need time to recover?"
"Look, I'm perfectly fine!" Marcy argued. "I'm going to help Luz defeat Belos and save this home! It's the best I can do after everything she went through to save my life!"
"Marcy, is post possession…"
"I don't want to hear it!" Marcy argued before slamming her fist to the wall, causing it to shake and for rocks to fall with one of them landing on Hooty.
"Ow! That did not rock!" Hooty said.
Marcy was panting aggressively while Sasha stared at her with worry and concern. She didn't know if she should help or give Marcy space, but she knew that her best friend needed help and she will do anything.
"Listen Sasha, I don't want you to worry about me, right now." Marcy said with aggression in her voice. "Worry about a world that could be destroyed." She walked away to wallow in her own anger and self hatred.
Meanwhile, King had suddenly woke up in the mysterious dream world again which looked similar to the in-between world. "Huh? What? Oh, not again!"
He looked to his right and saw the body of General Yohan. He narrowed his eyes at the corpse before kicking it. "Nyeh!"
He then heard a mysterious laugh that caught his attention. "Hahahahahahahahaha!"
"Huh?" King approached the laugh with curious caution where he saw the mysterious figure he saw the first time, looking excited.
"One more week and I will be free!" The Collector cried. "To have fun and play! Oh, I hope there will be clay!" The Collector then paused. "Though, would that Core be a problem? Nah, they're done for. I'll have more and more people to play with when I'm free! But if they refuse then oh they best prepare." King gasped in shock over what this thing was saying. "Huh?! Who's there?!"
Suddenly, King woke up to realise he's in Eda and Luz's room where he was before. He saw his two favourite people busy carving the Palistrum wood.
Luz and Eda looked to the baby Titan with concern. "You okay King?" Luz asked.
"Did you have a nightmare?" Eda asked.
"Yeah." King replied before snuggling back to his bed to try and get some sleep. "I think I did."
Meanwhile at the Porter residence, Gus was sleeping peacefully in his bed until he heard the sound of someone making huffs. Rather loud ones at that.
He reluctantly got out of his bed and looked outside the window to see Grime laying on the garden, doing sit ups. This immediately sent Gus into a panic since his dad was at home and could be awoken at any moment if Grime doesn't stop.
The illusion student quickly got out of bed, put on his slippers and dressing gown to quietly run down to Grime, whom was busy counting his sit ups.
"….69….70….71….72…"
"Grime." Gus said, trying to get his attention.
"Hey Gus." Grime said in-between his sit ups. "…75….76…77…"
"Grime, Dad will wake up if you continue." Gus said. "Please stop."
"I will." Grime said while continuing to exercise. "Just give me 18 more." Gus then used his magic to make Grime's legs stretch our straight, causing it to stop his exercise. The toad commander sighed. "Okay, fine, I'll stop."
"While I appreciate you wanting to exercise before the Day of Unity, but couldn't you do it in the morning?" Gus asked.
Grime stood up as he dusted himself off. "I would have. But I accidentally fell asleep after eating the last hex mix and when I woke up, I decided to exercise."
"Well, there is a reason why people prefer to do it in the morning." Gus retorted.
"Right! Right! Okay! Okay!" Grime said while raising his hands in self defence. "So, have you got plans on the Day of Unity?"
"Darius said to remain tight until an order came through." Gus replied. "Don't know when, but I theorise Day of Unity."
"Well, in that time, you can work on your arms, boy!" Grime flexed one of his arm muscles, causing Gus to give him a deadpan stare.
"Yeaaaah, I'm perfectly fine with my arms." Gus said. "But thanks."
"No problem." Grime said.
"You know Grime, I never fully appreciated what you did at Hexside." Gus said. "I mean, you practically saved my life that day. That was pretty cool, dude."
"Yeah….Thanks." Grime said though he was pulling a guilty look since he didn't know about his involvement on the Day of Unity. About how he accidentally helped Belos discover the Collector. "Say Gus, in a hypothetical sense, if there was someone else involved in the Day of Unity, what would you do?"
"Like with Belos, I'd pay good snails to watch them get what's coming." Gus said bluntly. "I don't know how they'd get it. Whether it be death or petrification."
Grime gave a nervous chuckle. "What about prison? Surely they deserve to rot in prison."
Gus shot Grime a vengeful glare. "No. A genocidal maniac like them don't deserve prison. They deserve to die."
"Uh….This seems kind out of character for you Gus." Grime said. "I mean, I know we've known each other like for three weeks but even I know…"
"Look Grime, stealing from me is one thing, but wiping out an entire civilisation is a whole different subject." Gus argued. "So like I said if Belos or anyone who was involved with him, I want them dead." Grime gulped as he feared what might happen if he were to find out if Gus were to find out that he caused the Day of Unity. Gus noticed that Grime was looking afraid and gave him a concerned look. "You okay Grime? Was I too aggressive?"
"Yeah, a little too aggressive." Grime said.
"Kind of out of character?"
"Yes."
"Huh, maybe it was due to you waking me up."
"Yeah probably, sorry about that."
They awkwardly stood in silence for a bit before going their separate ways. "Goodnight Grime."
"Goodnight Gus." Grime watched as the young witch went up to bed and sighed, fearing for what might happen to their friendly relationship.
