She woke up and the first thing that she could feel was the soft pillow that her head was touching and the warm blanket that she was neatly tucked into. Secondly, that she was alone in the unknown bedroom that she was located in.
With one blink of an eye, she already knew that she could not see again, and that means that she was blind. And with the pain that she was feeling earlier on and adding that she was blind that would one mean one possibility, that she was Shinichi again.
She immediately sat up, with her head swarming and feeling lightheaded as soon as she stood up and falling into the wall. She was able to grip onto the wall before she fell onto the ground but took the lampshade that was located on the table beside the bed with her.
She was able to pull herself up as she pushed herself against each up as she was between both walls and pushed herself up as best as she could.
She had changed back, and the first thing that she wanted to see was her own reflection and then Ran as Shinichi. But alas with her being Shinichi again her sight had gone with it and all hopes of it coming back because the only way that would happen would be if she was Christie again. But she was Shinichi and that meant that she could be with Ran now and that she would be able to tell her everything that had happened in the last couple of weeks. After all it was the right thing to do and this was a lie that she did not want to live with any more and one that she felt that she could no longer living with after seeing what it was doing to Ran.
She was missing being Christie, already.
But case had to be solved and she was the only one that could do it.
She knew that she was in one the bedrooms, hence the bed and since there was no time to prepare one of the guestrooms because she had taken ill and the time was needed for her health. She would have to allocate to the nearest one and she then remembered that the young engaged coupe had been coming down the stairs when they came in.
It was a fair chance that they were coming from the bedroom and that she was placed in their room. It was a double bed and the smell the fair smell of the adhesive on the walls meant that there was new wallpaper and this meant that the room had been recently decorated. The occasion of a son coming home with his recently engaged fiancée seemed like a logical conclusion. And the smell of the perfume was not an expensive one but an affordable label that the average person could afford. It was also the fragrance of the smell that a young woman would wear and one that you would wear for special occasions wearing to impress someone. Naturally it would belong to Yuiko and therefore she was in her bedroom and since it would be a guestroom she was still upstairs and would be located somewhere she could find her way round and likely have passed the room already.
Before even standing up she knew that her clothes were too tight on her and were either ripped or falling too pieced, at best they could pass underwear or pyjamas.
She was about the same height and size as Yukiko.
She just had do her best to get dressed and get on the case without making anyone suspicious and try to come up with a logical explanation to why and where Christie had disappeared to.
The feeling and texture of the clothing that she had found in the closet were similar to that of her school uniform. But the buttons where o the opposite side and the trousers that she had found the zip was on the opposite side, indicating that they were male clothes and not female. The clothes were two sizes too big for her female physical size but in length they were close enough for to wear, she would just have to make a few adjustments here and there. Fortunately the belt that she wore as Christie is something that she would be able to do this with.
*****COUGHING*****
Shinichi immediately gripped onto the bookshelf.
"KUDO !" screamed a concerned Hattori.
"Shinichi !" a worried and concerned Ran.
*****COUGHING*****
"Are you okay, Shinichi" said Ran.
But Shinichi was not truly hearing any of this, as the pain and shock that was hitting her again was far too much for her to handle to be able to understand and concentrate what was going on around her.
She had walked through the case perfectly and without a doubt in her mind that was that was correct. The only doubt that was looming on her mind was that what was happening was all good to be true and at the same time she was not sure that this was a good thing that had happened at all.
She did her best to stand up, relaxing against the bookshelf and do her best to act as if there was nothing wrong with her at all. She relaxed and put her hands in her pockets, trying to warm them up because right now they felt ice-cold, yet it felt like her body was on fire and the fever was starting to takeover. She was feeling dizzy and if she even moved another inch from the spot she was standing she would end up collapsing on the floor.
"I think it is just a cold" she said dully.
It seemed that she had convinced them that she was alright because they were already suspicious about her and ready to question her.
"But how did ya know so much about this case ?" asked Hattori.
"Ya were spying from somewhere close after all" said Hattori.
She was annoyed.
"Baro! That four eyed kid told me over the phone," said Shinichi annoyed.
"You heard from Christie ?" asked a surprised Ran.
She hoped that she was convincing both of them.
"She told me to come quickly because there was some strange Detective in town from Osaka"
She was finding it harder to breathe with each word as she swallowed, so that she was able to breathe and relax.
"I finished up…The case that…I was working on and got on the train…"she said trying to explain herself as she struggled to come up within an answer.
But she was interrupted before she could finish her sentence.
"That's a lie!" said Ran.
This surprised her.
Ran pushed Hattori aside and walked closer towards Shinichi to face her.
"He said that it was strange that you do not ask about my well-being over the phone!" said Ran.
She wanted to crush him.
The wave of anger and the shock of wanting to physically harm someone rather surprised and shocked her in that moment. The pure hatred that she felt towards this detective for prying into her private life and into Ran's was starting to crawl under skin rather too much for her liking. She did not like the way that she was feeling because this was not her and she felt like she was someone else, more some than ever than being Christie.
Breathe.
Breathe.
And now she could smell of salty tears coming from Ran's eyes as she was starting to cry because she was upset. Ran was confused and upset with her and this was unsettling to her and was strange that this feeling was all too familiar too her and was almost déjà vu to her.
Or maybe it was memories that were trying to flood their way back to her but it was as a beaver's dam was blocking them the watery entrances of memories coming back. Either that or her brain was trying to protect itself, from her memories from her being harmed possibly physically and psychologically. If the dam broke and all the memories came back at once the damage that could be done maybe be unbearable for her to remember, and unbreakable to her mind and to her sanity.
She decided against this because seeming illogical because with everything that she as witnessed before and after being shrunk was more than the normal person could handle. And she could handle being turned into a child without breaking then she could handle anything that fate handed to her no matter the circumstances he could overcome them.
Was she having a panic attack ?
Because she was finding it hard to breathe and it felt like she was choking on something, like smoke.
But she before she could deal with her thoughts she would have to deal with the situation at hand right now and could deal with this later. Even though part of her didn't want to have to deal with the memory loss situation and just get on with the rest of her life. But it was the Detective in her that was stopping herself from not just going with the rest of her life as if nothing had happened and she had to solve the puzzle or it would drive her mad.
Right get on with the case.
Ran had said something and she could estimate what she had to say.
She just a chuckle hart lightly, pretending that everything was alright and that Ran was just being dense and the latest rival of High school Detectives as a rival was not wrong once but twice today.
"Never underestimate me."
Her head was lowered, and she then lifted it to say what she needed to say.
"I'm a Detective."
"With you, all I need to do is hear your voice and know everything. You should already know that by knowing" she said seriously.
She deliberately sounded annoyed and insulted, sending Ran on a guilt trip as she used her blindness as an excuse and as if she was insulted at the same time. She realised she did this more than she thought she had in the past for the excuse and for…
*****COUGHING*****
It was getting worse and she could no longer support herself against the shelf and fell to the floor coughing on her knees.
Ran did by her name and Ran out of the room while saying "Shinichi, hold on. I'll get the Doctor."
And she was left alone, in the room with Hattori. Shinichi was able to gather herself enough to stand up and get ready for the confrontation that she was about to have.
"So, my deduction was wrong from the beginning," said Hattori sounding annoyed and antagonistic at the same time.
"It looks I have a lost this round" said Hattori sounding defeated.
"You win this round, Kudo. Your deduction was superior to mine" said Hattori.
She was annoyed with him, again.
"Baro !" she said sounding insulted.
She was insulted by his attitude.
"In Detective work, there's no winning or losing… There's no superior or inferior…That's because only one Truth Prevails…"she said taking a break between sentence to find a second to breathe and get the oxygen that she was struggling to get into her lungs.
Hattori was rather touched by this notion.
"Looks like I got caught up too much in ma interest n was too worried about losing that I lost ma cool"
Shinichi then collapsed the ground in pain coughing and splattering in pain.
She was beginning to see spots of flashing lights; it was her eyes that were hurting more than the pain that her body was going through. She felt like she was spinning and seeing the law books in front of her made it all quite clear what was happening to her and what change was about to happen to her. She had to get out of here before anyone could see what would happen to her or find out the truth about whom Christie really was.
She had to get out of here.
Hattori was concerned and starting to get panicked to what he was witnessing to Kudo.
"Oi Kudo, that ain't no cold," he said concerned.
"Kudo !"
The Kudo girl was crying and clutching onto her heart at the same time.
She could hear Ran running down the corridor with the Doctor behind her they were coming to her for medical assistance, unfortunately that was something that she did not need nor want because she knew what her diagnosis was and she had to get out of there.
She was able to gather herself and stand up as she staggered out of the room, bumping into the walls with her version being the first part of Christie to come back. Though it was sharp and rather painful with the colours coming back and the notion of what she was feeling was making her more off balanced with every step that she had took. Having remembered how many steps she had taken as Christie she quickly calculated how many she would have to take as Shinichi instead.
She was feeling like she was intoxicated with every step that has she taken heading down the stairs and holding onto the banister, feeling light headed and unsteady.
I feel get my normal body back and I am going to change back into Christie without even telling Ran the truth. In this body was the only way to tell Ran the truth, of how I feel and what decision that I would come to when the choice had to be made.
She took one step on the second step, and she turned around because she could feel the presence of someone(s) behind her. It was Ran and the Doctor.
"You cannot just run off like that Shinichi. You are not well, and you do not know your way around this place and you need help," said Ran concerned.
She did not want her secret identity to be revealed, and she got more versions as Ran stepped closer to her that she took one too many steps to wrong. She fell faint, and she could feel her skin literally and physically start to felt as she smelt the steam come of her skin and through the clothes that she was wearing, that she feels backwards and down the stairs.
She somehow was able to land on the ground on all fours in a cat and without harming herself, exactly like a cat landing on its paws. And she did not even break a single nail, it was fuzzy but she was able to look at her.
The jacket that she was wearing that fallen off her, along with a pair of socks and the shoes that she was wearing. As soon as she had stood up the trousers that she was wearing had fallen of and all she was wearing was the shirt on her back.
Ran was coming down the stairs and gathering up the clothes she was wearing. Ran would be confused and concerned to the trail of clothes that were on the ground that led to the closet she was currently hiding in.
"Shinichi !"
Shinichi was hugging herself in pain. The change was coming any second now. She could not feel it and she did not want it to come yet. Not until she saw her own reflection of her normal body with her own eyes instead of seeing Christie in the mirror or seeing a mere picture of herself.
I want to tell her the truth with my own voice, my real voice.
At least let me say one more thing to Ran before…
"AAaaargggghhhh" she screamed in pain.
It was the last thing that she said as Shinichi before she started to revert back to Shinichi.
Ran no doubt heard her screaming and started to make her way to the cupboard that she was hiding in. The door handle was moving as Ran was twisting it and pulled the door wide open to the way, so that she could get a full inspect of what was in the cupboard.
Ran was rather surprised to what was in the cupboard.
It was Christie.
They both stared at each other unsure what was happening or what to say.
"Where were you? I was looking for you," said a concerned Ran looking for answers.
"And why are you wearing Shinichi's shirt?" asked Ran.
She had to think fast.
"I-I was sweating, so Shinichi said that I could borrow her shirt" said Christie.
She saw Ran immediately blush at that moment as she paused for a moment, it took a moment for her to realise what Ran was imagining Shinichi without a shirt on. She could not help that in that moment turning red because of what Ran was thinking and this led to her think about Ran without her shirt on as well. This was making her think of sexual thoughts, and she did not want to Christie right now, she wanted to Shinichi and it had to get a cure as soon as possible.
Ran turned around looking for her, Shinichi not knowing that she was right under her nose and she didn't even know it.
"Hey, did you see Shinichi ?"
Another lie to tell.
"Shinichi said she had another case to solve," said Christie.
She then pointed "She changed clothes and then left through the front door," she said childishly.
Ran was not upset anymore but made once more.
"That girl!"
"Shinichi doesn't want anyone to know that she solved the case," she said before collapsing.
I was asleep for three days after that.
In meantime Hattori Heiji returned to Osaka.
Kudo Shinichi's name did not appear in the newspaper thanks to Ran. I was able to keep the men in the black from finding out that I was still alive and getting closer to them.
I was curious to why I returned back to my original body.
The alcohol was what stood out, thanked to Hattori Heiji an experiment had to be held to find out the proper results and see if they could be replicated again. There was no mistake about it. She drank from the bottle of alcohol and returned to normal.
Kogoro was sleeping from drinking from the bottle that Hattori had given to hm as a gift and other cans that were scattered across the room. She grabbed the bottle knowing that he would not notice that she had taken what was left of it because would think that he had finished it.
She poured it into a glass cup knowing that she had only taken a sip of it, if she were to drink a larger quantity of the alcohol then she would turn back permanently to Shinichi.
He victoriously smiled holding the glasses I her hand, half thinking as she looked at her own reflection in the glass.
Without thinking she gulped it down as fast as she could, just like water.
"CHRISTIE"
She didn't even know Ran was standing right behind her until it was too late and she was scared the moment that she was getting shouted at and in big trouble. She spat the whole drink out of her mouth because of the fright that she was given that she spat the full drink out of her that the alcohol didn't even make it through her system.
"What are you drinking, Christie?"Questioned Ran with authority in her voice.
She looked up, and Ran was holding the glass that was just in her small hands seconds ago and Ran was inspecting it.
"I knew it! You were drinking alcohol!"
Ran to put it away in the cabinet with the other alcoholic drinks, where she could not reach them and then proceeded to lock the cabinet door.
"You know little kids aren't supposed to drink alcohol," said Ran.
Baro !
I am in High School.
Oh yeah, High Schoolers are still minors.
Grumpily she was back to elementary school with 'The Junior Detective League' being a child again and putting on her childish poker face again.
At least she had a game of football to look forwards to afterwards and there be no pressure in being a "Freeloader" other than Ran trying her best to teach her how to cook. She knew the basics and could deal with them but everything else that she tried to cook her somehow ended up killing it.
When she gets the opportunity, she would speak to Agasa and have the several tests put in place to see what would happen.
Test 1
The same and exact type of alcohol had to be used to see if it would again and then use another alcohol to see if it could be duplicated again and then another test of a different alcohol to see if another could be used or did a better job. Or if it was only the one type that could be used but they would have to through the variables to see the facts for it and that meant drink the alcohol itself. Even if she had to be intoxicated to would follow through to see if she could get the results that she wanted.
Christie sat on the floor with her legs crossed and hugging the bottle of alcohol that she was using to see if she would turn back into Shinichi. (Un)Fortunately, she was not able to collect the results that she was expecting.
"Heeeeeeeeeeey prrroff " she said waving to Agasa.
Shinichi was a happy drunk.
"Me body isny turning back at all!" she said slurping her words.
Agasa sat in his chair as he watched the experiment unfold or rather not.
"Your body has probably built up immunity to it," he said thinking.
Shinichi was too drunk to understand what he was saying.
"Money ?" she asked.
Agasa decided to give her a longer explanation so that she was able to understand more clearly as she was not thinking clearly at all.
"In other words, there is something I the alcohol at that made you turn back the first time, but your body created a resistance to this alcohol, and it won't work anymore," he explained with excitement in his voice.
"I JUST NEED TO DRINKK MORE!"
Shinichi screamed.
And she started to gulp it down like she was drinking water.
"Oi S-Shinichi," said Agasa scarcely.
He proceeded to try and catch Shinichi as she did her best to catch her so that he could get the bottle of alcohol from her.
"I'm gonna shotgun it down," she said running and drinking it at the same time.
Agasa was not able to catch Christie that night.
Day afterwards
Christie spent the next day regretting her actions and despising alcohol all together, swearing that when she was an adult that she would never another drop of alcohol again.
She spent the whole day in bed with the worst hangover imaginable to her.
And worse Kogoro was lying next to also with a hangover.
Ran was taking care of both of them thinking that her Dad had caught what Christie had the best way to stop germs spreading was if they were taken care at the same time.
Kogoro's snoring was like a landmine with every breath he took.
