Disclaimer: I don't own Monk. This is a sequel to The Green Sweater

Recap from The Green Sweater: "Natalie" kept having nightmares for 5 days in a row. Finally, she called "Mr. Monk' one night around midnight. He came over to her house and after a discussion, discovered that Natalie was Trudy. Everyone was shocked but delighted. Some time later Adrian and Trudy adopted a baby girl named Hope. When Hope was a little over a year old Adrian and Trudy married again. For their honeymoon, Adrian, Trudy, Hope, and Trudy's parents, (Dwight and Marsha) went to Euro-Disney. After they came back home it was discovered that Trudy was pregnant. The bombing had impacted Trudy's reproductive organs and the only way to save the baby(ies) was a surrogate mother carrying them which Marsha readily volunteered to do. Meanwhile, Leland and Karen find out their youngest daughter has leukemia. Adrian later donates his bone marrow to her, and she recovers. Trudy and Adrian adopt twin girls who are close friends of Hope.

Trudy and Adrian discover they are having triplets. In the end, Marsha delivers three beautiful babies. They are named Faith (Mollie), Diana (Rose), and Amaris (Yahsourah) or Aimee.

Trudy was fast asleep when she heard all three of the triplets crying. She sat up at the same moment Adrian did.

"I got them," Adrian said gently, "You go back to sleep."

Trudy smiled and kissed Adrian.

"Thanks, honey," she said.

It was 3 days since they brought the girls home. Trudy, Adrian, Dwight, and Marsha had been up with the girls ever since 2 AM every few minutes. The girls would be a week old tomorrow.

Adrian went into the nursery. Marsha was nursing Aimee and had gotten Faith settled down.

"Thank you," Adrian said smiling at his mother-in-law.

Marsha laughed.

"Don't be silly," she said, "When Trudy was a baby Dwight and I would get up with her whenever we would hear any noise at all."

"You're a great mom," Adrian said, "You're more like my mom than my mother. She never loved me."

Adrian quickly changed Diana and sat down on the rocking chair.

"She loved you as best as she could," Marsha replied, "She probably didn't have a model for healthy parenting."

"You're right," Adrian said, "But you're still more like my mom than she was."

Marsha grinned.

"You've always been there for us," Adrian added, "No matter what you've shown us nothing but love."

"Dwight and I always will be there for you," Marsha told him firmly, "We love you and we love Trudy."

"That means the world and beyond to us," Adrian replied.

"Not as much as you and Trudy mean to us," Marsha told him.

Aimee finished nursing and started to cry again. Marsha rubbed her back gently and firmly burping her.

The baby finally fell asleep and Marsha gently put her back into the bassinet. Diana started fussing.

"I think that she's ready for her 'breakfast'," Marsha said.

Adrian smiled and handed Diana over to Marsha.

The next day was Saturday. Ella, Ava, and Hope wanted a "Fun Day weekend".

"Sounds great," Trudy said, "Where should we go?"

The kids talked about it for a few minutes. They settled on Disney.

"Sure," Adrian said, "But first you all need to have your breakfast."

"I want pancakes," Ella said.

"Cream of wheat," Hope commented.

"I want a bagel," Ava put in.

"I'll make the pancakes," Marsha replied, "Dwight do you want to make the cream of wheat?"

"Sure," Dwight said brightly.

"Mom," Trudy asked, "Are you sure? You just gave birth six days ago."

"I know," Marsha said, "I gave birth. I didn't get sick or anything like that. Meanwhile, I'll make you some breakfast too."

"Thanks, Mom," Trudy replied.

Marsha made regular pancakes for Ella and blueberry pancakes for Trudy. Everyone had their breakfast and then they got into the car. Dwight, Adrian, and Marsha buckled the triplets into their car seats while Trudy got Hope, Ava, and Ella into theirs. Ava and Ella argued about what music to play. Hope broke the tie.

"We should listen to Disney music since we're going to Disney," she said.

Ella and Ava loved that idea and Trudy put on the Disney tape.

Adrian called Leland on the way.

"Hey Monk," Leland said, "What's up?"

"We're going to Disney," Adrian said, "Would you guys like to join us?"

"That would be great," Leland replied, "I'll bring the family."

"Wonderful," Adrian smiled.

"How are the girls," Leland asked.

"The triplets are asleep," Adrian said, "Hope, Ella, and Ava are singing along to Disney music."

"Do the triplets sleep well," Leland asked.

Adrian laughed.

"They sleep about as well as Jennifer slept when she was an infant," he replied.

When Leland's oldest, Jennifer was an infant she was often up every few minutes. After about six months she settled down and slept through the night.

"It gets easier," Leland reassured Adrian.

"I know," Adrian replied, "I had Hope from the first day she was alive."

"So do you all plan to start sleep training," Leland asked Adrian.

"With three six-day-old infants? I highly doubt it," Adrian said laughing.

He paused.

"How's Caroline," he asked.

"She's doing great. Her last tests came out perfect. She had her last round of chemo 3 weeks ago for caution and the doctor says she doesn't need to come back for at least another six months."

"That's wonderful," Adrian replied, "And how is Max?"

"Max has been having nightmares lately about Jennifer's kidnapping and Caroline's illness. We've been taking him to see Dr. Bella."

"Has she been helping?"

"She has. Jennifer has also been helping too. She sleeps in his bed at night with him to protect him from his bad dreams."

"She's a wonderful big sister," Adrian said with a smile.

"She really is," Leland replied, "You know when you're blessed like you have been and like I have been you never lose appreciation for that."

"Isn't that the truth," Marsha said chuckling.

"It really is," Dwight added.

The drive to Disney took 45 minutes. The triplets woke up a few times but thankfully fell back asleep rather quickly. They got the kids ready. By this time, Leland, Karen, Jennifer, Jarred, Max, and Caroline were there. Hope saw Caroline and ran to hug her. Unfortunately, she was running too fast. She tripped and fell. She wasn't badly hurt but she had cut her elbow and her knee. Trudy ran to her and hugged her.

"It hurts," Hope said a little teary-eyed.

"I know sweetheart," Trudy said kissing her forehead, "Come on. We have to go to the care center and get this looked at."

"Where is that?"

"It's right over there," Trudy said pointing.

Ava and Ella wanted to go with Hope. Dwight and Marsha stayed with the babies while Adrian and Trudy took the girls to the care center.

"Hi," the doctor at the care center said, "My name is Marieya. I'm the doctor here at the care center. What happened?"

"I tripped and fell," Hope said, "I hurt my elbow and my knee."

Marieya put on gloves and cleaned up the blood.

"That's better," she said.

She wrapped a bandage around her elbow and one around her knee.

"Thank you Marieya," Hope said politely.

Hope, Ava, Ella, Trudy, and Adrian came out of the care center. They walked back to the car. They went to the children's section of Disney.

"I wanna go on the boat ride," Hope commented.

They divided the kids up on the boat ride. Hope went with Trudy. Ava went with Dwight. Ella went with Adrian. Marsha stayed with the babies.

"Mom," Trudy offered, "You could go on the rides too."

Marsha laughed.

"Trudy, I just gave birth six days ago," she pointed out, "I couldn't fit on the boat ride."

"Sorry," Trudy said embarrassed.

"Don't apologize," Marsha said firmly, "You did nothing wrong."

"I just… I feel like I've been taking advantage of you."

"You've done no such thing," Marsha replied, "I'm your mother. I'm a mother who lost you for ten years and who 3 years ago found out you were still alive."

Trudy nodded.

"Yes that was a good day," she said.

"No. That was a perfect day," Marsha replied, "Nothing can compare to that day"

"I love you, Mom," Trudy remarked.

"We love you too," Marsha said.

"I know," Trudy commented, "You've done so much for me."

Little did they know what the future would bring. Aimee started crying. Marsha nursed her.

"I must say," a young man said, "You seem a bit… seasoned to be a new mom."

"I'm 57," Marsha said, "Also, the triplets are my grandchildren."

The young man raised an eyebrow.

"You're nursing your grandchild?" he asked.

"Yes because I carried my grandchildren," Marsha said patiently.

She told him the whole story.

"Wow," he said, "That's incredible."

"It's called being a mother," Marsha replied.

"I'm Jack," the young man said.

"Nice to meet you, Jack," Marsha said, "I'm Marsha."

"Your daughter is very blessed to have you for a mother," Jack said.

"I lost her for 10 years," Marsha replied, "I'm the blessed one."

"Mom," Trudy smiled, "That was three years ago."

"It might as well have been today," Marsha replied.

"Mommy," Ella asked, "Can we go on the train?"

"Sure," Trudy nodded, "I'll take you girls."

She led them to the train.

It was well past nightfall when they got home. The triplets were asleep. Trudy put them in their bassinets. She then went to fix dinner for Hope, Ava, and Ella but Marsha had already cooked for them.

"Thanks, Mom," Trudy said hugging her mother.

That night Adrian and Trudy lay in bed talking.

"Your mom is amazing," Adrian said.

"I know. She just gave birth 6 days ago and she's acting like it was 3 years ago," Trudy agreed.

Adrian kissed Trudy. They started to… play around.

"We can't," Trudy finally said, "What if I get pregnant?"

"You can't get pregnant through clothes," Adrian pointed out.

Trudy laughed and nodded.

Of course, they didn't think Trudy could get pregnant in the first place after the bombing. The triplets were a complete surprise. All three of the babies woke up at that point. Trudy, Adrian, and Marsha went to get them. They all needed to be changed and fed.

The next day, Trudy and Marsha were out by the swimming pool. Adrian and Dwight were caring for the girls.

"Honey," Marsha asked, "Is that a bruise on your leg?"

Trudy looked down at her leg.

"Yeah," she said.

"How did that happen?"

Marsha looked concerned.

"Yesterday when I got up, I was so tired that I banged my leg on the bed. It's nothing– I'm fine."

"You had leukemia when you were a child," Marsha reminded her.

"Yes, when I was 3 to 6 ½. If I were sick again I wouldn't just have one bruise."

"I get it," Marsha said, "I just love you so much. I worry about you."

Trudy reached up and hugged her mother.

"I know Mom," she said, "I love you too. I'm sorry if I seem a little moody."

"Are you okay?" Marsha asked.

"I'm just," Trudy sighed, "I'm a little emotional today."

"Your visitor is probably coming," Marsha said nodding, "You would always get emotional when it would come when you were younger."

Trudy thought.

"Well it's a little early but around that time," she admitted.

"How have you been sleeping," Marsha asked.

"I have 3 babies who are a week old," Trudy pointed out, "The twins are going to be 3 in a couple of days and Hope will be three in three months. I'm sleeping about as well as I possibly can"

"Which is to say not much," Marsha laughed.

"Which is to say not much," Trudy agreed.

Later at lunch, Marsha spoke to Trudy and Adrian.

"So," she began, "I'm going to pay for you two to spend a week at the Hylton Hotel… in the bridal suite after the twin's birthday."

"Mom, are you serious?" Trudy asked.

"I am serious," Marsha replied, "You need to sleep. You can't function without sleep."

"I'm fine," Trudy said.

"Fine isn't banging your leg on the bed hard enough to get a bruise," Marsha replied.

"You're mom's right," Dwight added.

"We'll be taking care of the girls," Marsha said, "You two just enjoy your third honeymoon."

"Thank you so much," Adrian said, "This is beyond generous of you."
