The next morning, Sirius dressed in the most formal robes he had. Zippy had brought all of his belongings from Grimmauld Place to Black Manor the night before. Sirius knew he would need to look his best if he was going to Diagon Alley with his grandparents.
Sirius was the last to enter the dining room. He greeted his grandparents and Regulus before taking some bacon, eggs, and toast.
There was silence all throughout breakfast. The silence was only broken when Zippy came to clear out the dishes.
"We will be leaving for Diagon Alley in one hour's time," Arcturus stated. "Please meet by the fireplace at that time."
An hour later, everyone was standing by the fireplace. Arcturus went first, followed by Melania. Sirius and Regulus went through together. Once in the Leaky Cauldron, they made their way quickly through the pub and into Diagon Alley.
People would immediately move out of the way as soon as they saw them coming. It was no secret that Lord Black could be scary if a line was crossed, and no one wanted to risk it.
First, they went to Gringotts so Sirius could get his Heirship ring. They went up to a teller.
"We are here to see Talonblade," Arcturus said.
"Talonblade will be right with you, Lord Black," the goblin said in the bored tone they always used. Moments later, Talonblade arrived, and they followed him to his office.
"I am assuming you are here so Sirius Black can claim his Heirship ring?" Talonblade asked.
"Yes, that is correct," Arcturus confirmed.
The goblin motioned for Sirius to step forward. Sirius already knew what to expect. He had done this once before. He held out his right hand.
The goblin put the ring on Sirius' finger, then said, "Lord Black, do you accept Sirius Black III as your Heir?"
"I do," Arcturus responded.
"Sirius Black III, do you accept the responsibility that comes with the title of Heir Black?" the goblin asked.
'I do," Sirius said.
"Congratulations, Heir Black," Talonblade said. "You are now the rightful Heir to the Noble and Most Ancient House of Black."
'Thank you,'' Sirius replied. They left Gringotts soon after.
They then went to Madame Malkin's so Sirius could get some new robes for Hogwarts in particular. As Sirius was being fitted, he saw another boy come into the robes shop. He froze, and immediately, he felt like killing the person he saw.
Peter Pettigrew.
Sirius wished he had a wand so he could curse the little rat.
"Hello," Peter said nervously. "I'm Peter."
"I'm Sirius Black," Sirius snarled. Peter flinched at the cold greeting.
"Sirius, what's wrong?" Regulus asked, concerned at the tone his big brother was taking.
"Nothing," Sirius replied shortly, turning his back on Peter. He knew that Melania and Arcturus would have words for him later, but he didn't care at the moment. He just couldn't stand Peter, not after everything he's done, even if he had not done any of it in this timeline yet.
After the robes shop, they headed to the Apothecary. On the way, Sirius received looks from his grandparents that clearly told him they had heard his tone with Peter. He was going to have trouble explaining it, because no one knew about his time-travel.
While in the Apothecary, Sirius caught sight of a familiar boy. He was about to greet Severus Snape the same way he greeted Peter, but then Arcturus spoke before he could.
"Lady Prince, how nice it is to see you again," Arcturus greeted the woman with Snape.
"Lord Black, Lady Black, it's a pleasure to see you," the woman responded. "And this is my son, Severus Snape."
"Hello, Lord and Lady Black," Severus said, bowing respectfully.
Melania gave Sirius a sharp look.
"Hello, Severus, I am Sirius Black," Sirius greeted, surprisingly holding in his real feelings about the greasy-haired boy. He didn't want to get into more trouble.
"Nice to meet you, Sirius," Snape replied with a nod.
"My name is Regulus Black," Regulus introduced. He wondered what was up with his brother today. Maybe he just woke up on the wrong side of the bed.
"Are you both going to Hogwarts this year?" Snape asked.
"I am," Sirius said. "Regulus is starting next year."
"Which house do you think you'll be sorted into?" Snape asked.
"Gryffindor," Sirius responded. He realized his mistake almost immediately. Regulus gasped, Melania gave him a surprised look, and Arcturus narrowed his eyes at his grandson's words.
"I'll be in Slytherin," Snape stated.
Sirius decided to go grab his potions equipment quickly. He didn't want to continue to talk to Snape and say something he might regret.
After leaving the Apothecary, Regulus blurted out, "Gryffindor, Siri?"
"Er, well, you never know," Sirius replied. "I feel more like a Gryffindor than a Slytherin." He shrugged, and in order to change the topic, he asked, "Can I get an owl?"
"Let's go get your textbooks, then Regulus and I will go get you an owl while you and your grandfather go to Ollivander's," Melania suggested.
"Alright," Sirius agreed. They bought the textbooks Sirius would need before splitting up and heading to Ollivander's.
On the way, Arcturus broke the silence. "If you end up in a different house than Slytherin, I can promise you that it will not change anything. You are still the Heir to the House of Black, and you are still my grandson." Sirius stopped in his tracks. He had never heard such reassuring words from his grandfather before, and he thought for a moment that maybe he heard wrong.
"Wh-what?" Sirius stuttered. Arcturus smirked.
"Not everyone is like your parents," he said simply before walking again. Sirius shook his head in astonishment.
When they entered the shop, Ollivander greeted them. "Lord Black, Heir Black," he greeted. "I see that it's your first year again, eh?" Sirius looked at him in confusion. "I remember every wand I ever sold, Heir Black, and though I don't ever remember selling you a wand, the magic here tells me you have been here before." Sirius paled. Ollivander knew. He looked at his grand"father to see a look of confusion come over his face.
"We will talk when we return home, Sirius," Arcturus said. "For now, get your wand."
It did not take long to find his wand. It was the same wand he had in his old timeline. Sirius thanked the wand-maker before heading out of the shop. Upon leaving, he found Regulus and Melania waiting for them with an owl cage between them.
"We found you a snowy white owl," Melania explained, handing Sirius the cage. Sirius looked at the beautiful owl inside, and it reminded him of Harry's owl.
"What are you going to name her?" Regulus asked excitedly.
Sirius grinned. "Luna," he stated.
"Luna?" Regulus asked. "Where did you get that name from?" Sirius shrugged.
"Just came into my head," he replied. In truth, he named her after Luna Lovegood, but he couldn't tell his brother that.
When they returned to Black Manor, Arcturus turned to Sirius. "My office, now," he commanded.
Sirius knew this was coming, but now that the time had come, he was nervous. Not only would he have to explain what happened between him and Peter, but he would also have to explain what Ollivander was talking about.
Melania gave Sirius a small smile. Her smile did little to reassure him, however. She had not been there to hear what Ollivander said, so she had no idea what was going on.
"Go ahead, Sirius. I'll have Zippy save you some lunch," she said kindly. Sirius nodded, and headed to the same room he had been in just the day before.
