Gajeel and Levy found themselves facing Yomazu and Kawazu. Yomazu was a brown humanoid goat while Kawazu was a humanoid chicken. Both of them were the strongest lesser members of Grimoire Heart, putting them below the Seven Kin of Purgatory.
They always work together in a group. That's the reason they pursued Gajeel and Levy. It's also because they're not able to take the Fairy Tail mages on in a one on one fight.
One of Ben's clones watched the battle because he knew the two were exhausted after their exam. They faced his main body, and fought until they were exhausted. So they might run out of magic power during the battle.
It's also a good chance to see whether these two had grown or not. Ben gave them a lot of advice during their first exam and it would be good if they applied it now. So the clone watched as the battle began and he immediately noticed they had grown up a little.
Gajeel normally attacked the enemies head on. However, this time he used his magic to find out what the enemies were capable of. He used Iron Dragon Roar to attack the enemies by moving it to the side.
It hit Yomazu first and he blocked it with Solid Script just like Levy. Yomazu's Solid Script used Japanese kanji instead of the alphabet, which is named Orient Solid Script. He produced a shield to block Gajeel's roar and it was strong enough to block it without taking damage.
The roar moved back Kawazu who opened his beak and spit out a lot of big eggs on the ground in front of him. The eggs break and yolk came out of them, creating a wall. The yolk wall wasn't able to block the roar, so Kawazu flew into the air to avoid it.
Now Gajeel and Levy understand the enemies magic a little. Yomazu should be stronger than Kawazu, but the latter was faster because he was able to fly. They still need to see more to come up with a better strategy, but this was good enough for the time being.
After facing Ben in the first exam, they finally understood the importance of knowing what a enemy was capable of. So now they will test a few more things before they come up with a strategy and go all out.
Gajeel decided to attack Yomazu while Levy will attack Kawazu. They will try to use less magic power while forcing their enemies to reveal their power. It was difficult, but they need to try it first because it was the best thing to do with their current magic power.
Both of them split up and rush to attack their targets. Gajeel rushed towards Yomazu after covering his skin in iron scales. Yomazu also got ready and held his katana to the left.
Then when Gajeel got close to him, Yomazu moved forward and dashed past Gajeel. He has unsheathed his sword and slashed Gajeel's body at high speed before sheathing his katana again. It was a iai technique that let a dark wave in it's wake.
This technique will cut through everything it passed and will surely cut Gajeel's iron scales. But to Yomazu's surprise, Gajeel wasn't cut and remained standing with a grin on his face. When he looked at Gajeel, he saw a iron plate attached to Gajeel's body.
There was a mark on the iron plate, meaning his attack hit the iron plate instead. His slash wasn't strong enough to cut through it and touch Gajeel. That's why Gajeel was fine and had a smug grin on his face.
"You're fast, I'll give you that. But Ben is a lot faster than you. After seeing his speed, there's no way I won't be able to see your speed. It's like comparing a lion's speed to a snail." Gajeel said as he removed the iron plate.
"So there's someone like that among you, huh? Well, it doesn't matter. The higher-ups will take care of him while I take care of you." Yomazu said.
"Ge he he, take care of him? I'm not sure any of you can handle that guy. He's beyond ridiculous. And you can keep dreaming about defeating me." Gajeel said as he rushed at Yomazu again and engaged him in direct combat.
Elsewhere...
Levy's fight with Kawazu had also begun. Kawazu attacked first while flying as Levy approached him. He shot multiple eggs at Levy and she produced a strong fire attack to burn the eggs to ash.
But Kawazu already fired the 2nd wave of attacks, passing through the burnt eggs. The eggs then break before reaching Levy and the yolks turn into fists that rain down on Levy. Kawazu smirked triumphantly before his smirk faded after he noticed Levy was fine.
She erected a large earth wall to protect her from the yolk fists. She had prepared the earth wall even before she used the fire attack. This was a result of her exam with Ben, which was to prepare something just in case the first plan failed.
"I made this wall out of reflex because I always need to stay one step ahead like when I fought Ben. He he, the exam with him taught me a lot of things." Levy said as she dispelled the earth wall.
She has a lot more confidence now though she still hasn't found a way to take Kawazu down. A flying opponent is very troublesome because they can move freely. Furthermore, Kawazu used long range attacks, making it a lot harder for Levy.
Meanwhile...
Gajeel took Yomazu on with Iron Dragon Sword. He transformed his right hand into a sword with rotating blades. Gajeel relentlessly attacked Yomazu and didn't let him take a break.
He knew Yomazu could use Orient Solid Script, so he kept attacking to prevent the brown goat man from using it. Now Yomazu can only fight Gajeel with his sword and Gajeel started dominating the battle.
After facing the super fast Ben in the first exam, fighting Yomazu is like child's play. Also, Gajeel's close combat skills have been improved in the first exam and only get better. Now his attacks are faster and stronger.
He kept pushing Yomazu around while evading the latter's attacks instead of blocking them. The battle remained in Gajeel's favor until eventually he defeats Yomazu with another Iron Dragon Sword on his left hand after parrying Yomazu's sword.
Levy also found a way to face Kawazu who was in the air. She wrote TORNADO five times in the air and threw them to encircle Kawazu. The five tornadoes surround Kawazu as he floated in the air.
The five tornadoes cause a big disturbance in the air and make it hard for Kawazu to stay airborne. He was sucked into the five tornadoes and thrown around all over the place. He tried to resist but all his attempts were futile.
Levy wasn't done yet as she wrote LIGHTNING. She threw it into the middle of the five tornadoes and activated it. The letter turned into multiple lightning bolts that struck the area.
After being thrown around in the tornadoes Kawazu was hit by multiple lightning bolts although not all of them hit him. But the ones that struck him did Kawazu a lot of damage and his muscles tensed up due to the electricity so he can't move his wings temporarily.
The tornadoes almost disappear right after the lightning bolts came down. Kawazu hadn't been defeated yet, so Levy prepared another attack. She wrote HAMMER and threw it at the falling Kawazu who can't fly temporarily.
The letter turned into a giant hammer and it hit Kawazu from above really hard. Kawazu fell down at high speed and crashed into the ground really hard. He was nearly knocked unconscious from that attack and finally fell unconscious when Levy hit him a few more times with the giant hammer.
Ben's clone smiled happily after seeing Gajeel and Levy use his main body's advice and their experience when fighting him immediately. They have grown and become better since they faced him in the first exam. This victory was something they deserved.
