Wendy was chosen to fight in the last match of this battle round. Her opponent was Sherria of Lamia Scale and Ben thought that this was an interesting match up. He knew about Sherria's magic and told Wendy about it before.
"A Dragon Slayer and a God Slayer are facing each other again, huh? The organizer really knows how to make things more interesting." Ben said.
"That girl from Lamia Scale is a God Slayer?" Cana asked.
"Yeah, more specifically a Sky God Slayer." Ben nodded.
"Isn't that the same type as Wendy's? Then, this will be difficult for Wendy, won't it? Her magic won't be able to damage her opponent with higher-tier magic. Does she need to use physical attacks like Laxus?" Cana asked.
"Well, let's just see. If it comes to that, then I'm sure it won't be a problem for Wendy. Don't forget who has raised her until now. If it's just a physical fight then Wendy will be better than you think." Ben replied with a smirk.
Cana seemed surprised, "She's that good?"
"Yeah, she is very talented. The only problem is that she doesn't like fighting that much. Wendy is not a timid girl, she just hates hurting people. But she will not back down from a fight if she has to." Ben remarked.
Both Wendy and Sherria enter the arena, but then Sherria tripped and fell. Wendy asked if she was okay and wanted to help her, but she also tripped and fell. These 2 surely have similarities other than their magic, their clumsiness.
They laugh it off as they stand and greet each other. After taking a better look, they realize they also have similar height and body size. Both of them are quite short but have good curves.
Well, anyway, the girls get ready to fight and have a lot of determination. The two hadn't met each other before but they heard about each other from their guild mates. So they knew that they have similar magic and that this will be a tough battle.
The battle soon commenced and Wendy started it by giving herself 2 buffs. She uses Arms Vernier spells to enhance her attack power and speed. Then she attacks Sherria with Sky Dragon Wing Attack that created a pair of rotating winds after she swung her arms in circles.
Sherria evaded it with a swift movement before she cast a spell. Black wind covered her hands and she released a strong black whirlwind toward Wendy. Wendy creates a wind that moves up from the ground to redirect the black whirlwind to the sky.
Right after Wendy redirects the spell, Sherria suddenly appeared in front of her. She cast a spell that produced a spiral black gust of wind. The spell is made to send the target flying upward, so she is trying to send Wendy flying.
However, Wendy had anticipated this attack. She had seen this strategy many times since her childhood. Ben used this surprise attack many times when he trained her so she is always ready for this situation.
Wendy evaded Sherria's attack by generating wind under her feet. She propelled herself backwards right when the spiral black wind appeared. She escaped at the last moment, but she escaped nonetheless.
Sherria was stunned when Wendy evaded her surprise attack because this strategy always worked. She was surprised even further when she noticed Wendy had prepared an attack spell. She needed to prepare a spell immediately too.
Wendy swiped both of her hands down diagonally, forming a X. She used Sky Dragon Claw using her hands even though it was originally a spell meant to be used with the feet. Ben modified it so she could use it with her hands or feet based on the situation.
Sherria didn't have enough time to cast a spell for defense so she assumed a defensive stance and was hit by the wind claws. It sent her flying and she took damage from Wendy's attack.
"Eh? Shouldn't she be immune to Wendy's magic because she is a Sky God Slayer while Wendy is a Sky Dragon Slayer?" Freed asked, confused.
"Well, if you just look at the name, then it might be true. However, if you look at their magic carefully, you'll notice something. Their magic is not just lower tier and higher tier magic like Laxus and Orga's or Natsu and Zancrow's. Sky Dragon and God Slayer Magic have unique properties that make them similar but also different." Ben noted.
"So complicated. Just explain it shortly so I can understand." Natsu said, holding his pained head.
"You know that they are Sky God and Dragon Slayer, not Wind God and Dragon Slayer, right? We don't know a lot about Sherria's magic, but we do know that Wendy's magic doesn't just use wind." Ben explained with a smile.
"Ah, she also uses healing and support spells." Gray said.
"Correct, and Sherria must have other spells too. However, their other spells must be different and it's because the characteristics and properties of their magic are different even though they are similar. The differences of their magics are the ones that allow Wendy's Sky Dragon Slayer to damage Sherria, a Sky God Slayer." Ben informed them.
The idiots in the guild nod and smile smugly after Ben finished explaining and then said, "I still don't understand."
Those who do understand sigh or laugh at them while Ben simply says, "Well, you just need to know that Wendy's magic works on her, so she has many ways to fight."
They continue to watch and are surprised to see Sherria heal her injuries. It's something that Sky Dragon Slayer Magic can't do as Wendy can't heal her own injuries. She can however buff herself up and heal others.
This is the difference between their magic's properties although Ben has improved Wendy's healing spell so she can heal herself. It's still nothing compared to the self-healing spell Sherria's Sky God Slayer magic has.
Sherria then took a deep breath and Wendy did the same. Both use their magic's signature attack, Sky God Bellow and Sky Dragon Roar. The black and bluish tornado collide and create a massive impact.
Both of their spells seem to be even as they cancel each other out. Wendy's spell was stronger, but it can still only match Sherria's attack. The tier differences really show the effect here. Wendy will need more power to defeat Sherria's spell.
Wendy still has skills that she hadn't relied on yet, hand to hand combat. She propelled herself forward at high speed using wind under her feet. Then she covered her hands with her magic and attacked Sherria.
Sherria did the same thing and the two face each other in close combat. They seem to be evenly matched at first, but Wendy started dominating the fight. Ben trained Wendy in this kind of fighting style for years, so her close combat skills are very high.
Wendy's moves are very swift and she can move around agilely. She utilizes wind to help her move around and evade Sherria's attacks. Her buffs also increase her power and speed which made her attacks even stronger and faster.
Sherria doesn't hold a candle to Wendy's close combat skills. She can heal herself, but there's a limit to how much she can do it so she tried to distance herself from Wendy by creating a spiral black wind that moves upward around herself.
Wendy was pushed into the air, but then she cast another spell. She spread her arms and a magic circle appeared below her feet. Then a big wind sphere that breaks the spiral black wind appeared and surrounded both her and Sherria.
Wendy then casts her spell, "Dragon Slayer Secret Art! Shattering Light: Sky Drill!"
She moves her arms counter-clockwise and creates a tornado that is aimed at Sherria. Sherria tried to block it by creating a black tornado but it was destroyed easily. She is then hit by Wendy's spell and sent flying rather far.
Sherria received a lot of damage and tried to stand up, but she can't and fell unconscious. Wendy won her battle with only a few injuries. Ben looks very proud of his sister who he raised with great care.
