As they slowly moved to the music they both tried hard not to think about how comfortable they felt holding each other. Gabby was thankful for the comfortable silence they had fallen into, as she had missed being this close to Matt. But the silence wasn't long as Matt was not going to waste this opportunity to finally get to talk to Gabby.
"Why didn't you tell me?" Matt asked, breaking the comfortable silence.
"I could ask you the same thing."
Matt couldn't help the confused look that crossed his face, unsure what she was referring to. It couldn't be about the wedding as she didn't even know he had moved away so there was no reason she wouldn't think he'd be here. Her lack of surprise at seeing him also made him assume that Stella and Kelly had told her he was the best man.
Gabby could tell he was trying to figure out what she meant, so deciding to spare him she added "Brett, Matt. You could have told me you were dating one of my best friends, someone who was at our wedding and celebrated us working on adopting Louie."
He was at a loss for words. She was right, he should have told her a long time ago, thinking about it there were a lot of things he should have done differently when it came to him and Gabby, but not telling her about Brett, he can't even imagine how that would have made her feel. He knew he shouldn't ask this but he couldn't help it. "Who told you?"
"Everyone but the two people who should have."
"I'm sorry Gabby. I-"
Before he could finish Gabby cut him off. "Just tell me how long. While we were married? Just after I left the first time? While I was here visiting? Because I can't help the feeling that this has been going on for a lot longer than anything seems to believe, and despite them all telling me it only started a little while ago, I just can't believe that."
"You really think I'd do that to do you?"
"I don't know what to think anymore Matt. I came back a year ago to try and see if you wanted to try again and you never even called me back, just left while I was still asleep so what am I supposed to think."
"Wait, you came back to try again?"
"That doesn't matter anymore Matt."
"Of course, it matters. I didn't know, Gabby. Why didn't you say anything?"
Gabby couldn't have this conversation and she knew she needed to remove herself from this situation before she said something she couldn't take back. She halted there swaying and stepped out of Matt's embrace, and without saying anything turned around and walked out of the hall.
Matt knew he couldn't let her walk away from him again without putting up a fight so he quickly followed after her.
