Synopsis:
Best friends since the fifth grade, Sam and Mercedes experienced all their firsts together. But now that Mercedes is getting married, Sam realizes just how much she means to him.
Sam stared at the Wedding invitation in his left hand, and his phone with the text from Santana saying Merce wanted him at her bachelorette party tonight. He closed his eyes, he could do this, he would do this, Mercedes was his best friend, his Person. They had been friends ever since the 5th grade when he got into a fight and Mercedes jumped in when she saw him facing three guys on one.
And they have been best friends ever since. Which is why it came to no one's surprise that she asked him to be her Man of Honor or Best Man. Normally the honor would have been great and he wouldn't have a problem with it. Even when she asked him, he was happy to accept.
But then he started feeling sick to his stomach as he thought about her marrying someone.
He sighed looking over to his roommate. "Isn't it weird for me to go to this thing?"
"Not for those of us who aren't in love with the bride."
Sam shook his head. "I never said I was in love with her! I said I was going to be sad when she finally marries him."
"Because you love her."
"As my best friend! God, a man and woman can be friends without being in love."
Blaine sighed, turning to Sam. "Sam, normal people, like you and Rachel or me and Hunter, can be friends with people you could be attracted too but just aren't. You and Mercedes, and me and Bas. I know I love him, you know I love him, but we are just best friends. Same goes for you and Mercedes."
"Look, Merce and me we have been best friends for most of our lives." Sam said, sighing.
"And in that time nothing ever happened between the two of you?" Blaine asked.
Sam looked away from Blaine. "I mean…okay once…or maybe a few times. But it was all innocent enough. We went to Prom and when Mercedes decided not to put out for her date he left her. So I, being her best friend, made sure my date had a ride and I took Mercedes home. Then we started talking about how cliche it was to have sex at prom…she expressed her fears and I expressed mines and I kissed her…it was stupid but one thing lead to another and we were each other's first."
"Was it stupid or did you revisit that topic with her more than once afterwards?" Blaine questioned with a smirk.
"Well you know we went to different colleges, so that first year it might have happened every time we visited each other…and every time we got dumped…or whatever but we were young and it never went anywhere."
"So you two have been sleeping together for years and acting like a couple up until Puck came into the picture… two years ago?"
"We weren't a couple and it ended when I started dating Quinn… and that was 6 months before Puck."
Blaine narrowed his eyes at Sam. "Bullshit, you and Mercedes went out of town together when you and Quinn started dating. I remember it!"
Sam exhaled. "Fine, it stopped a year ago! You happy Sherlock!"
Blaine gave him a knowing look. "You're a bad liar. Has she even had sex with Puck yet?" Blaine asked, smirking when Sam let out an annoyed breath.
"No she hasn't slept with him and I swear that's the only reason he asked her. And I don't know what the hell possessed her to say yes."
"Maybe she loves him because he hasn't asked her for it?" Blaine suggested.
"Oh he asked and she said she wasn't ready…look I just don't want her making a mistake."
"Sam, what would happen if you went to her room right now and told her you wanted her?"
"Nothing…Nothing happened at the bridal shop when I helped her out of her dress." He said knowing that was a lie…he touched all over her.
Blaine raised an eyebrow before scuffing. "Those walls are that thick. Besides, it was my bridal shop…" Blaine pointed out.
Sam's face turned red as she shook his head. "Nothing happened…okay nothing much happened. I couldn't help myself, that woman, she makes me crazy. But it's just because she's my person B. Like Bas is yours even if you pretend y'all not in the back. Inventory don't take that long." Sam teased him back.
Blaine smiled. "I deny nothing but that's the difference between you and me. You try to hide what we all know and see and whether you want to admit it or not, she said yes because you've been dragging your ass. Puck made his intentions known the second he laid eyes on her, you've known her half her damn life and still don't have the balls to tell her you want more than casual sex."
"Because we had a moment! A moment where we could have been more, but she didn't make the move. I leaned in and she pulled away, so I know she doesn't want me. I am just familiar." Sam said, running his hands through his hair.
"What moment?" He asked before shooting a text to Santana.
"After she and Puck got engaged. I went to her and I asked her if she was certain that she wanted Puck. I asked her what all this meant for us and if she could see a future with me. And when I leaned in she pulled away. So no she doesn't love me."
Blaine let out a half laugh. "Or maybe she didn't know you were going to say that and needed time to answer." Blaine countered. "You expected her to just give you a yes right away because you chose now to step up? Where's the consistency? Where's the proof you won't flake? I swear you straight men..."
Sam looked at him shocked. "I… I've always been there for her and I've always thought of her before getting into relationships. I mean shit I gave her my virginity!"
"But did you give her commitment? Did you show her you loved her, did you do more outside of the bedroom than make her a secret?" Blaine asked and Sam sighed. " Seriously, let's compare you to him. You, have known her for years and have been fucking her for years but what else have you done? Puck has taken her to Paris, Belize, Rome and has been very loud about who he is in love with, he shows her how much he loves her every single time that she enters a room. He literally stops talking when she comes near him and you think because you two share fiery glances that she's gonna just choose you now?"
Sam was completely dumbfounded by what Blaine just said. "It's not the same…" He said defensively.
"Oh it's absolutely the same, you slap those guppy lips all over my girl and think that's enough? Really?"
Sam groaned when he heard the voice. "Why are you here?"
"Because boy wonder asked me to be here." Santana replied before sitting down next to Sam. "Now, have we gotten to the part where we tell him she's over the sex?"
Sam looked at her. "What do you mean over the se- wait how did you even know?!"
Santana smirked. "You really thought she didn't tell someone? Besides, I saw you leave with her on prom night."
"That was years ago and no one knew it would happen." Sam defended.
"Please, I could tell you wanted that hot ass, hell we did." Santana replied, shrugging and Blaine nodded too.
"I always said if I didn't have Bas, I would try to get with her." Blaine said.
Sam shook his head. "This is besides the point and not helping me at all!"
"Sure it is, you need to be humbled because we all know you're either going to try to ruin her wedding or get one last ride in before she marries Puck. Seriously, you let Noah Puckerman beat you to the punch?" Santana asked, shaking her head.
"She told me she loved him, what was I supposed to do?"
"Grow a pair and fight for her comes to mind." Santana replied.
"Call her bluff, you know her better than anyone." Blaine added.
"Oo, you could've actually told her how you felt instead of using your dick…"
"Wait, I have another one! You could've asked her to marry you four years ago?" Blaine added before he and Santana started laughing.
Sam stood shaking his head. "Whatever! Where is she?"
Blaine and Santana both shared a look. "She's in her room… resting." Santana said, smirking.
"Resting? What the hell does that mean? Did she and Puck?" Sam shook his head. "Tell me!"
"Puck is at his party, she's just resting." Blaine explained smirking along with Santana.
"Fine I am going to see her… and what is with all the damn smirking!" Sam said, grabbing his keys.
"You don't even have a plan and I don't think little Sammy's gonna get the job done this time…" Santana teased.
Sam rubbed the back of his neck, regretting the words that were about to spill from his lips. "I need your help." He mumbled to Santana.
Santana placed a hand behind her ear and leaned closer. "Sorry didn't hear that, what'd you say?"
Sam groaned. "I said I need your help!" He shook his head, mumbling "Psycho" under his breath.
Santana smiled. "Why should I help you?" She asked, looking at him seriously.
"Because you love her just as much as I do and you know that I can be better for her than Puckerman!"
Blaine sighed. "San, stop being a shark who plays with its food and help the poor boy."
"I can't help stupid, his answer screams hetero… he's using what he wants as the reason why I should help him. I mean he wouldn't be better for her, Puck's established and has made it clear he wants a future with her. He hasn't said shit about any of that." Santana reasoned.
"Of course I want a future with her! She is the best thing that has ever happened to me. She is my best friend San. I want to provide for her, protect her and make her realize that I am the best one for her. I may not be eloquent and I may not always know the right thing to say, but I know how to make her smile when she has had a particularly hard day. I know how to read her moods."
He moved to Santana's side. "I know that when she's on her period, she likes having her head rubbed, likes chocolate kisses, and cherry slushies from Speedway. She is my person Santana and I can't watch my person, marry the wrong person."
Santana looked at him and clapped her hands. "Well I think we finally see a real man. I'll help but she's not going to give in easily." She informed.
"Why not?"
"She knows her worth dumbass, that's why."
Sam sighed. "Any other tips or words of wisdom you would like to share?"
"Grovel and tell her the truth." Blaine said.
"Don't bullshit and make her feel wanted." Santana added.
Sam nodded. "I can do that."
"You better, here's her room number." Santana said, handing him a room key.
Taking the key, Sam made his way to Mercedes suite, not bothering to knock. "Merce?" He called out and froze as she walked out of the room wearing her a white satin above the knee plunge ruched dress. His eyes traveled her body hungrily, and stopped on her beautiful, perfect face.
"Sam? What… are you doing here?" She asked.
Sam started to say something but stopped. He looked at her left hand, spotting the large ring on her finger and winced. He still remembered the look of shock on her face when Puck proposed and the look she gave him too.
"Sam?"
"Mercedes I-"
Yep we threw in another one to shake things up lol
