"Hey little songbird, I'm headed out, are you going to be okay?" Hudson asked his granddaughter who was sitting in bed eating a bowl of cereal.

"Mhm, I'm hanging out with Sam today." She replied and he noticed the glimmer in her eyes.

Hudson nodded. "You know there's absolutely no boys in this room when I'm not here, right?"

Mercedes giggled. "Yes, I wouldn't disrespect you like that, Pop Pop." She said laughing again. "Now I see where my dad gets it from."

Hudson smiled happily knowing his son wasn't letting those little boys around his grandchild. "Good and it's gonna stay that way until after you're married."

"How am I supposed to get married if I never get to invite boys over?" She teased.

"Oh you can invite them over but you can't marry any until after you're married." He bounced back and she laughed even harder.

"With that logic I'll be a crazy old lady with like ten cats."

"And that's exactly how it should be, besides boys are icky." He replied with a light chuckle. "What are you two going to do?"

"I'm not sure, he asked if I wanted to go on an adventure and I said yes." She answered, still not sure what she should wear.

Hudson smirked. "I'm surprised you don't remember…"

Mercedes looked at him confused before shaking her head. "Remember what?"

"He used to come over and ask,'' Can a butterfly girl go on an adventure with me?" he was always a good kid even if he was a little older."

"He's only a year and half older than me." She pointed out and Hudson let out a deep laugh.

"Sounds like old times already, have fun and be safe. I'll be back a little after seven so you'll have to figure you some dinner okay?"

Mercedes smiled. "What are you and Ms. Camille doing today?" She asked teasingly.

"We're going to a winery then on a boat cruise." He answered proudly.

Mercedes nodded. "Make sure you get her some flowers, I'll be fine."

"I know you will, I love you, don't forget to lock up before you head out." Hudson said, walking over and placing a kiss on her forehead.

"I will and I love you too." She said before he walked out. She wasn't sure when Sam would show up so she decided to go ahead and start her morning routine, even though she was at her grandpa's she kept up the routine her and her mother had been doing since she was twelve.

Farrah Jones made sure Mercedes knew the importance of self care and love, she would help her learn how to do her hair and take her to get pampered every weekend. Mercedes showered, washed her hair before deciding on giving herself a blow out. She had just put on a dress when there was a knock at the door and a rush of nerves and butterflies flew throughout her body, settling in the stomach.

She opened the door and smiled when saw Sam standing there holding a single daisy.

"Hi." She said excitedly.

Sam smiled and looked at her before holding out the flower for her. "Hey, you look great." He replied, she took the daisy and smelled it.

"Thanks, am I dressed okay?" She asked, taking a step back and twirling.

"Perfect." He said and she felt more butterflies fluttering. "If you're ready, we can get going. We have about an hour drive."

"Oh, yeah I just need to grab my phone and purse." She said turning around and quickly going to her things. "Okay, ready."

"Good." He grabbed her hand and led her to his truck. "Here, let me help." He said stepping towards her and gently picking her up and placing her into the passenger seat.

Mercedes smiled at him when he picked her up and had to stifle a giggle because she was ticklish. "Thanks." She said after he put her down.

"No problem. Get ready for a fun day, butterfly girl." He replied, winking at her, making her turn her head to hide her blush.

"First we gotta make one stop before we start our adventure.." He said pulling out of the driveway.

"Okay, where?" She asked, looking at him and seeing just how much he really grew up. He was a little chubby when they were kids and now he was all muscle, his jaws were chiseled and he had grown his hair out.

"Need to get a few snacks first." He said breaking her from her thoughts.

"Snacks?"

"Mhm, we're gonna need them." He answered as he pulled into a local shop.

Sam helped Mercedes get out of his truck and led her inside so they could grab a few snacks for their adventure, she picked out a few things and he grabbed a few things that they could share. She still wasn't sure what they were going to be doing but based on the snacks he grabbed and how much he picked up she could tell they were going to be gone for a while.

After checking out and getting back into his truck he took them down several long, winding roads while she looked at the window humming along to the music.

"I can't believe you're not famous yet." He said, catching her off guard.

Mercedes looked at him, smiling. "Well I have to get a good solo first, I haven't had a real chance to shine. My instructor is pretty strict on going all diva."

"You should still do it, you never know who's watching could be some huge record producer in the audience one day." He said pulling off down a side road before slowing down.

Mercedes looked and saw a bunch of cars and people all hanging out. 'Where are we?"

He smiled. "Small festival, there's gonna be live music and then movies once it gets dark." He said backing his truck into a spot before getting out.

He walked over to her side and helped her out as they both grabbed their things before going to the tail of the truck. Sam opened it and hopped on first, laying out a blanket and placing a cooler he had down, he walked to the edge and held his hand out for her.

"Don't drop me." She joked and he smiled.

"I got you butterfly girl." He said when she took his hand and lifted her onto the bed of the truck. Mercedes blushed before sitting down across from him.

She looked around already enjoying the fun atmosphere as someone came on the stage starting the music portion of the event.

"This is awesome!" She said looking back at him, noticing he was looking at her. "What?" She asked and he blushed before shaking his head.

"What are you planning for your birthday?" He asked.

Mercedes looked at him for a moment before shrugging. "I'm not sure, I know pop pop will make me a cake but that's all I know for sure."

"Maybe we could hang out and celebrate our birthdays together?" He asked and she noticed his blush again.

"Are you asking me out on another date?" She teased.

Sam smirked. "So this is a date then?" He countered.

She bit her lip. "TBD… so what else do they have at this festival?"

"Well there's booths for random things, there's a photobooth over there and over there is a placehouse for kids." He answered and Mercedes caught herself staring at his eyes. They were usually green but today they looked blue, like his younger siblings.

"Photobooth?" She asked and he smiled.

"Mhm, want to go check them out? Music doesn't get good for another hour." He said standing and jumping off the bed, he held his arms up for her and she smiled letting him catch her.

They walked around several booths picking over various nicknacks and Mercedes bought some earrings and other various things to take back home to show her parents

"Wanna take some?" He asked when they stopped in front of the old fashioned photo booth.

She smiled and nodded. "Sure." She replied and he opened the curtain letting her in first before following. It was slightly cramped and took some maneuvering before they finally settled with her sitting on his leg and his arm wrapped around her hips.

"Ready?" He asked. She looked down at him nodding and he pushed the button that started the timer. They both looked at each other before facing the camera and smiled as the first picture was taken. They both agreed on doing a few silly ones following, laughing at each other's silly faces, the last photo taken was of them looking at each other both sharing smiles.

"Hey, we would like a turn!" They heard from outside before realizing they had been looking at each other for longer than either of them noticed.

"Come on, I wanna show you something." They stepped out of the booth, Sam grabbed their pictures with one hand and hers with the other before leading her back to his truck.

When they got settled again he pulled out a small book and handed it to her. "What's this?" She asked.

"Open it." He said and she did before letting out a loud laugh. "My mom took pictures of everything, apparently." He added chuckling.

"I don't even remember this!" She said holding up a picture of the pair of them both toothless. "You were so cute back then!' She teased.

"Am I not now?" He joked and she looked at him smiling.

"You are." She answered looking down to hide the silly grin on her face.

"I think you're cute too." He said and she looked up at him noticing he was closer, he smiled looking down briefly at her lips before looking back at her. He started to move in but they both jumped when they heard a whistle, signaling it was time for the first movie and they let out nervous laughs.

"So, umm what movie are they playing first?" She asked, tucking her hair behind her ear.

"Umm, let me look." He said, pulling out a piece of paper. "Love, Rosie." He answered.

"Oh, I love that movie!" She replied moving so that she could see the screen fully.

Sam looked at her before moving closer to her. "I've never seen it."

"It's really sweet, it's about two friends who basically love each other but life pulls them apart over and over again until finally they're able to be together." She explained cheerily.

"Definitely sounds interesting." He said looking at the screen.

As they watched the movie they would catch each other looking at the other, halfway through Sam wrapped his arm around her shoulder and she rested her head on his shoulder.

"I have a gift for you." He said once the film ended. He leaned up, pulling something out of his pocket, showing her a purple fake butterfly tattoo. "I'm assuming purple-"

"It is." She said, smiling at him. "When did you get it?"

"While you were buying your earrings… figured it would remind you of today." He answered.

She grabbed it, blushing. "Where should I put it?"

"Umm, how about here?" He asked, pointing just below her shoulder.

"Okay, will you put it there?" She asked, moving her hair and pulling the sleeve of her dress down.

Sam nodded, grabbing a bottle of water and a napkin, placing the tattoo on her and following the instructions. When he finished, he blew on it to help it dry before taking the paper off and smiling.

"Looks good there." He said as he grabbed his phone and took a picture of it so she could see it. "See."

Mercedes looked at the picture, smiling. "I'm definitely getting this when I get older."

Sam chuckled. "Maybe we can get matching ones."

"Like you would ever get a butterfly on you." She teased, stopping when he leaned in.

"I would." He said before gently kissing her.
