Spanking of minors. Don't like. Don't read.Season 1 Episode 1 Part 7

When Maya woke up, the room felt lighter than it should, and she was momentarily confused by where she was. When she remembered, she looked over at the clock and saw the time. It was 1115. She was confused why no one woke her up for school, but she just figured that, like her mother, they had forgotten her too.

After using the bathroom, she went out into the living room looking for food.

Cory looked up from his spot on the couch and smiled at her, setting his book down, "Hey, how'd you sleep?"

"Good, where is everyone?" She asked, sitting at the bench at the table.

"The kids are at school, and Topanga needed to be in court this morning, but she just got out. She is headed home with tacos. It will be about 20 minutes, do you need a snack until then?"

Maya shook her head no. They were going to make her talk. "Why didn't you wake me up for school?"

"It felt like you needed the sleep, but if you're eager to do some work, the work your teachers emailed for the day is over there on the printer."

Maya stood up to go look. It was only a math and science worksheet. "Nothing in English?" Maya asked.

"She said you should have your book to read." Cory told her, "and nothing for my class since they have a sub." Maya smiled at him and grabbed a pencil before sitting down to get to work. She was finished with the sheets as Topanga came through the door. She sat the bag of tacos down in front of Maya and kissed the top of Mayas head.

"How'd it go, my shark?" Cory asked, coming to the table.

"Open and shut, it was no big deal." Topanga said. She grabbed three plates and sat them down on the table. "Set that aside so we can eat."

"It's done, I will put it in my backpack." Maya told her. She went to go to Corys room, but Topanga called after her to let her know that she had moved it to Rileys. Maya put it away and came back to the table where a plate of Tacos was sitting at her place. "Thank you!" She said.

"No problem!" Topanga told her. They chatted about her case until they finished lunch. Topanga tapped the table, and Maya scooted over to Rileys normal spot. "So...?"

"I don't know where to start." Maya told the table.

"You seemed off Monday morning. What happened when you went home Sunday night?" Cory asked.

"The truth this time, Maya Penelope," Topanga added.

"My mom and I got into an argument. I was upset and rude to her." Maya told them. She was sure they would press more, but they didn't. Instead, they waited. "When I went home after school, she wasn't home. So I put my phone on the microwave and did my work, but I fell asleep at the table. Then...my mom came home, and she...was..."

"She was what?" Topanga pressed.

"Uh, not sober." Maya supplied. "And so she wanted to stay up and watch TV with me and kept saying mean stuff about my 'new family'," Maya paused and blushed. "So I waited for her to fall asleep, and then I went to bed."

"What time was that?" Cory asked.

"Around 3 or 4." Maya told them.

No wonder she was falling asleep in class, Cory thought. "She picked you up on time the rest of the week."

"Yeah, but she didn't come in. She dropped me off and left and then came home around 130, not sober, and I would watch TV with her until she fell asleep." Maya told them.

"Did she come home not sober last night?" Topanga asked.

"Yeah, and when I came out of my room she was yelling about how I left a glass out before I went to bed, and she threw it at the wall and the ricochet hit my arm." Maya told them. "So I ran to my room and grabbed my bag and ran here."

Cory and Topanga shared a look, "Does your mom throw stuff a lot when she drinks?"

"No, mostly she just yells and stuff. But she really hasn't had a drink in a while." Maya assured them.

Topanga nodded at that. "Do you feel safe at home?"

"Mostly." Maya told her.

"Okay." Topanga said. "Were you eating dinner?"

"No ma'am." Maya picked at the placemat, "Am I in trouble?"

"There are some things we need to talk about." Topanga told her.

"Talk about or TALK about?"

"Both, I'm afraid." Cory told her.

"So you will stay here, of course, this weekend, as planned, and if, after talking to your mom, we decide that it's okay for you to go home. We will let you go home, Sunday..." Topanga started.

"I'm safe at home." Maya defended.

"We need to make sure of that, Maya." Cory told her.

"Fine." She crossed her arms and glowered.

"That's a conversation we need to have with your mom. As for you, I want to hear what went wrong out of your own mouth." Topanga told her.

"I uh...lied on Monday..." Maya said.

"And every other time, we asked what was wrong." Cory added.

"I shouldn't have walked here in the middle of the night..."

"That was very dangerous, Maya." Cory agreed.

"And eating and sleeping are expected behaviors, Maya." Topanga added.

"Yes, ma'am."

"I also told you not to argue with your mom."

"I know." Maya said, "And I watched TV."

"That one is not your fault. You were obeying your mom." Topanga told her. "The next time something like this happens, I want you to talk to us about what's going on." Topanga told her. "Can you do that?"

Maya stood up and walked over to snuggle in Topangas arms. "Yes, ma'am." Topeanga was grateful to have her arms full of Maya.

"If you ever feel unsafe, please call us. If you are grounded from your phone, call us. If you don't have a phone, find one and call us. We will pick you up. We will pick you up. If you have to get out, then do that, but get somewhere close and call, okay?" Cory asked.

"Yes, sir." Maya told him.

"Alright, lovely, are you ready for part two of our talk?" Topanga asked. When they got back to her and Cory's room, Topanga sat down on their bed and leveled a stern look at Maya, "Alright, this time it's on the bare Maya."

Maya crossed her arms over her chest and took a step back. "I don't think so."

Topanga sighed. She could see the exhaustion still on the girls face. "I'm not asking, little girl." Maya took another step back. "Maya, you look tired. Let's get this over with so you can take a nap before Riley and Auggie get home."

"I don't want a nap." Maya whined.

Topanga reached her hand out for the girl. "Come here, Maya." Maya didn't make a move. "Please."

Topanga could see the war waging on the girls face. This was the hard part, but she had faith in Maya, so she left her hand out there. "I don't want to take a nap."

"How about we decide that after?" Topanga asked.

"I don't want you to take my underwear down either." Maya told her.

"I know, lovely."

Maya took a small step forward and uncrossed her arms, "then don't."

"I'm not negotiating that one Maya."

"Please." Maya said, taking another baby step forward.

Topanga left her arm outstretched but didn't say anything. After a minute, Maya walked over, and Topanga swept the girl into a hug. She sat her on her lap and allowed the girl to bury her face in her hair. She rocked with her for a minute. "Would it make you feel better if I tell you exactly what's going to happen?" Her kids were more like Cory and didn't need a play by play, but she liked it when Cory walked her through things first, and Maya was a lot like her. She felt Maya nod into her neck. "Okay, when you are ready, I'm going to have you kneel on the bed beside me, then I'm going to pull your shorts and underware down and start spanking you with my hand. After you're warmed up a little, I will give you 30 swats with that brush, then..."

"Thirty?!" Maya asked, pulling away.

Topanga frowned slightly, "You've done a lot of lying this week. Feel thankful I'm not washing your mouth out with soap as well."

Maya buried her face back into Topangas hair. "That's going to hurt."

"Yes, but you will live. And if you ever do something as dangerous as walking across the city in the middle of the night again, I don't even know what we will do, but you won't like it, Maya Penelope."

"I didn't know what to do." Maya defended.

"Hopefully, it will never happen again, but if there is a next time lock your door and call us, we will come get you." Topanga squeezed the girl a little tighter when she thought about all the things that could have happened to her. When Maya didn't answer, she continued. "Then after that, I can rock with you for a little bit and if you are tired you can nap, if not you can come read in the living room with us while Cory and I work." Topanga told her.

Cory waited in the living room while Topanga and Maya talked in their room and wasn't surprised when just his wife came out fifteen minutes later alone. "Is she asleep?"

"Yeah. It's been a long day. We need to do something about Katy."

Cory sighed, "I called the diner, but they said she called in sick."

"Great, then I will just slip over there while the kids are all busy right now and..."

"We need a long-term plan first before you just go in yelling." Cory grabbed some papers off of the coffee table. "All Maya's grades are up. She is looking at a good solid A/B average now. I think we should lift her grounding, as that was the reason for it."

"Agreed." Topanga told him.

"We need to do something where Katy has a little more accountability, too." Cory told her.

"I'm going to ensure that when I go over there." Topanga told him.

"That's fine, honey, but how do we make sure she isn't leaving Maya alone?"

"I'm going to let her know that Maya will rat her out in a heartbeat." Topanga said.

"We don't need anything straining that relationship more." Cory told her.

Topanga stood, "I want to be back when Maya wakes up, so I'm going over now."

"Topanga..." Cory started. She grabbed her jacket and headed out the door, ignoring him.

Ten minutes later, she was in front of the Hart's door waiting to be let in.

Katy answered the door, confused. "Is Maya okay?"

"No, Katy, she isn't. She is asleep at our place because she hasn't been getting much lately." Topanga pushed her way past Katy into the room.

Katy looked down guiltily. "I don't usually drink that much.."

"You cut her arm when you threw that glass. Cory and I can't let her back here if she is going to come back to chaos or no one at all." Topanga lectured.

"I'm not great at this mother thing." Katy mumbled again.

"Right, and I'm thinking that I went about our last conversation wrong." She sat down on the couch and beckoned Katy over. Nervously, the younger woman approached her. "I'm going to spank you, and that will wipe the slate clean. After that, we will have a conversation about expectations, and we will tackle one thing at a time."

"Like what?" Katy asked.

Topanga reached out and tugged, pulling Katy across her knees. Since Katy was an adult, she left her clothes intact but pulled the hairbrush out of her purse. She started in right away with it. She spanked Katy until she was crying hard and then paused. "You have a clean slate with Cory and I. You just need to make up with Maya now."

"I don't know that she will forgive me." Katy told her through her tears.

"It might take a minute, but she will." Topanga gave her two more swats, "but you need to be consistent. So, for now, we will work on getting rid of the alcohol, and you being where you are supposed to be on time. Just those two things, Katy!"

"Okay..." Katy agreed.

Topanga put the brush down and sat Katy up on the couch next to her. "We will figure this out, Katy, I promise."

"I don't know where to start." Katy cried.

Topanga stood up, "Let's start with you getting rid of all the alcohol. Then you can come over to our place and we can have dinner and watch movies and have a big sleepover in the girls' room."

Katy poured the alcohol out but was still reluctant. "What if Maya doesn't want me there."

"She always wants you there." Topanga told her. Katy went and packed a bag for the night and her clothes for work the next day and followed Topanga over.
