Welp... enjoy!

What Happens in Vegas

Mercedes sat in the waiting room, chewing her bottom lip, leg shaking as she waited for her name to be called. She was also nervous because this would be the first time she will have seen Sam since the cabin. She messed her leg up pretty bad, so she was still in a brace.

Dwight and her dad actually came to the cabin to help bring her back with her car. When Sam's dad said they were leaving he barely looked at her, but at least Sam said bye. She really screwed up , and all she could do was accept it.

So she spent the last few weeks packing up her place, going to work and trying to prepare for being a mom, when she wasn't responding to Sam's daily texts asking her about the baby, making sure she was eating enough. And thank God for the baby or she would have fallen right back into her depressed state.

Looking at the time she checked her phone again, Sam would miss it if he didn't arrive soon.

"Mrs. Jones?" The nurse came out and looked at her.

"Its Ms. Jones. Is Shelby ready for me?"

The nurse frowned. "You call her by her first name?"

Mercedes laughed standing up. "I did a rotation with her in the ER before she moved over here, so yeah we are on a first name basis, my… ummm the father is on his way, can you make sure they send him back when he arrives?"

The nurse sighed. "Sure thing, what's his name?" She asked.

"You don't have to worry about it, I am here." Sam said, moving closer to them.

Mercedes adjusted her shirt, showing her small pregnant shirt and followed the nurse as she walked, her and Sam into a room. She stole a glance or two at him, it hurt seeing him, even now.

"Dr. Corcoran will be in here in a few moments, just get settled on the table." The nurse smiled then walked out the room.

Mercedes exhaled deeply holding her stomach nervously all of a sudden, though she didn't know why.

Sitting on the table she couldn't get comfortable, between the brace and Sam and that table itself everything was just causing her to freak out.

Sam must have sensed it because he placed his hand on her shoulder. "You really have no reason to be nervous, everything is going to be okay."

She looked up to him, wanting to say something but he had already pulled his hand away and moved to take a seat next to the table.

"Sam I." She started but stopped, he didn't need to hear another apology, he barely accepted the first one, completely ignored the second.

"I hear we have some parents ready to see their little bundle of joy." Shelby said, walking into the room. "Merce! It's so great to see you again! And pregnant. You know becoming a mom is a lot to handle in the ER so my offer still stands."

Sam looked at them. "Offer?"

Mercedes looked at him. "When Shelby started her private practice she asked me to come work for her, and has been any chance she gets."

"It's a great job and great benefits. Just think about it. You can work from home during maternity leave…but you are here for something else, are you and dad ready?" Shelby said, going to the ultrasound machine.

"Yes we are…right Sam?" She asked, looking at him.

"As ready as we can be." He breathed.

Sam stood as Shelby instructed Mercedes to lay back and lift her shirt. It seemed both Sam and Mercedes were holding their breath as the gel hit her stomach and Shelby started moving the wand around until a quick heartbeat filled the room.

Sam let out a breath, covering his mouth as he smiled. "Is that… that's good right?" He asked, looking at the screen again.

Shelby nodded. "Yes, yes that is really good…actually hold one for a moment." She said moving the wand around. "Huh…"

Mercedes looked at her. "Huh? What does that mean Shelby? Is something wrong?"

"No not at all, let me move this up here and wow…"

Mercedes looked at Sam and then at Shelby. "Shelby if you sit here and tell me my baby is a Benjamin button or jack from that Robin Williams moving I am going to flip the F out!"

Sam gripped Mercedes hand tighter but felt the same way she did, he was worried about what Shelby was going to say.

"Okay mom and dad, it looks like you are about fifteen weeks along. And this is your first Ultrasound right?"

"Yes, Shelby, just tell us please." Mercedes said.

"Okay, Merce, what do you see right here?" She asked and Mercedes stared, mouth open for a few moments.

"Is that…are we…no…" She gasped.

"Okay I need to know what is happening." Sam demanded.

"Okay come look at the screen."

Sam sighed moving closer. "Okay what am I looking at? Oh I see a head and an arm and a- another…head? What the hell? Um Doc please tell me we are not having a two headed baby?"

"Sam…we aren't…we are having triplets." Mercedes said tearfully.

Shelby nodded. "Here is baby one, baby two and way over here hiding from its siblings is baby three."

Sam stood there looking at the screen, frozen with a lot of things going through his mind before looking down at Mercedes tearing up. "Shit… three! Oh wow… we're having three… you're gonna be the best mom." He said, smiling at her.

Shelby printed a few copies of the ultrasound and wiped Mercedes' stomach. "I will let you guys sit with this for a moment, when you are done go out front to set up your next appointment, I want to see you back in four weeks so we can show you what you are having. If you experience any issues and come back in or go to the ER, you are a nurse you know what to look for." Shelby said smiling. "And don't forget about my offer. I'll double what you are making Merce."

Shelby exited and Mercedes sat up wiping her tears as she looked at the photo. "You are gonna be so good to them Sam, I know it. They are lucky you are their dad." She said through tears. "Can you imagine the look on our parents faces when they find out?"

Sam smiled before it faded and he sighed. "Yeah… they're gonna be ecstatic, especially our moms." He replied, clearing his throat. "Is there anything she needs to avoid? Or take rest?"

Shelby smiled looking at them. "Three is a lot harder to carry than two, she will need to take more breaks because she will be more tired. Pregnancy brain is a thing so she is lucky she has you. Stress, stress is a key factor here. It's not likely you will make it to your due date, preterm labor is common with multiples, so any cramping or bleeding you get seen immediately."

Sam nodded, taking in everything she told them. "So she'll definitely need someone with her when she gets to that point right? Like she doesn't need to be home alone in case she goes into labor… Do you have a card I can have?" He asked.

Shelby nodded, reaching in her coat and grabbing a card. "Don't let her being a nurse stop you either. Doctors and nurses make the worst patients, if you are worried, it doesn't matter if she isn't you get her seen."

"Hey! I am right here you know?" Mercedes laughed.

Sam chuckled. "You know her as well as I do, I assume so that's going to be a task but I'll make sure she gets seen if she needs to be."

"Good man. I will see you two later." Shelby said, walking out the door. Mercedes sighed with her hand on her stomach. "I can't believe there are three of you in here…"

Sam nodded, taking out his phone, sending a quick text to his mother before looking over at her. "You're gonna have to move into the house, your place isn't big enough and it's closer to yours and my job. That and our parents can get to you if you need them when I'm unavailable." He said.

Mercedes nodded. "I've already started packing." She said slowly.

Sam held out his arm to help her up. "Good, we can go shopping for the nursery whenever you want." He said looking at his watch. "I have a meeting in an hour but if you want to go by the house to look through the rooms and pick I'd love to help."

Mercedes grabbed her purse and took out one of the ginger candies, as she started feeling nauseous. "Three babies…you know our parents are gonna try to steal them right. They usually have dinner together on Mondays, you know, so we can run the ultrasound to them if you want…unless you have other plans I don't want to impose."

Sam shrugged. "I don't know, I have… plans but if you want to I can try to change them." He replied, walking her to her car.

Mercedes tried to hide her frown, plans…he really had moved on. "I don't…you shouldn't have to change your plans for me Sam, go have fun I'll drop these by our parents before I go home and finish packing.

Sam opened the door for her, waiting for her to get inside. "Just… call me if you need anything, it doesn't matter the time."

She frowned, she wasn't going to do that, she wasn't going to bother him and he had to have known that. "I'll see ya Sam." She said, looking away from him and getting in the driver's seat.

Sam gently placed his hand on her stomach. "You can be as stubborn as you want but I mean it, call me if you need anything." He replied with a small smile. "Three babies…" He said, shaking his head.

She quickly wiped a falling tear from her, damn hormones not letting her be. She didn't reply to him, just looked down to his hand and couldn't stop herself from placing her hand over his, just sitting there like for a few minutes. Both of them silently thinking of their growing family in different ways.

"Cedes… I-" Sam started right when his phone went off. "Be careful driving home and don't lift anything too heavy. I'll help move the big stuff or we can buy new stuff." He said moving his hand.

She nodded. "Uh yeah." Taking her seatbelt she forced herself to look at Sam before starting her car.

Sam took a step back. "I'll text you later." He said, shoving his hands into his pockets.

"Enjoy yourself tonight Sam, you…" She shook her head, she wasn't as ready as she thought she was. Shutting her door she drove off, blinking back the tears so her vision wouldn't be so blurry.

Mercedes spent the next few hours thinking about what Sam could be doing and who he was doing it with, not that it was any of her business anymore. Fighting the urge to text him, her need to know what was happening with him was too great and she gave in to that temptation.

SE - You should consider taking a break.

MJ - What makes you think I am still working?

SE- My spidey senses told me.

MJ- No fair! You can't use superpowers against me

SE- Tough, lol… have you eaten?

MJ- Rude! Lol. I ate earlier. Been kinda nauseous since I got home having really kept anything down.

SE- I'll be over in about 15 mins, ma made some soup.

MJ- Don't you have work in the morning?

SE- I can sleep in the guest room, if I stay too late.

MJ- Are you sure? I don't want you to over do it or be uncomfortable.

SE- It's just soup, it'll be okay. Go ahead and get you a bath, I still have my key.

MJ- Yes sir.

MJ- I'm teasing, I'll see you soon,

Mercedes sighed putting her phone down and did as Sam suggested and grabbed a bath. She really needed to relax. Heading to her room, she turned on her relaxation mix, lit a few candles and started her bath. She was still a bit overwhelmed by everything that happened since finding out she and Sam were having triplets.

When she headed towards her family home, she felt saddened and just couldn't take the ultrasound in. She couldn't tell them without Sam being there, it just didn't feel right. This was something they should do together and she was going to let him know that.

What she wasn't going to do was ask him about his plans when she knew that was code for a date. Though if he was calling her at ten at night it couldn't have been great…or - nope. She slipped her clothes off. She was not going to go there. As she stared at herself for a moment, her eyes went right to her stomach. Three babies, it was still surreal.

Slipping into her Jacuzzi tub, it was the only thing she was going to really miss about her place, though Sam did a great job with the new house, the tub was just as big with more relaxing options. Closing her eyes she ran her hands over her belly, humming along to the music, wanting to fully immerse herself into her relaxation mind frame.

Sam walked into Mercedes' place seeing boxes and random things everywhere before looking around to see if she was anywhere in the mess. He didn't see her sitting anywhere so he figured she actually listened to his suggestion and smiled.

"I guess pregnancy makes her less stubborn." He said to himself, placing the soup on her kitchen counter before walking upstairs to her bedroom bathroom.

He saw that her room was just as bad as the living room and wondered how the hell she'd been getting around in all that mess. He stopped in front of her bathroom door, listening to her humming and feeling himself growing sad because he would probably miss all the random times she would sing to their babies.

He opened the bathroom door smiling when she didn't even notice him enter before walking over to the tub and kneeling beside. "Hey." He said, placing his hand on her bare stomach.

Mercedes jumped slightly at the sound of Sam's voice and opened her eyes to find his hand on her stomach. She blinked a few times fighting the need that filled her from the touch of his bare hand on her. She offered him a small smile. "Hey…care to hum a tune for your babies?" She said swallowing again to clear away the feelings.

Sam sat down, smiling and slowly rubbing her stomach. "Sure but I'm rusty so don't judge me… what should be their first Samcedes duet?" He asked teasingly.

"Never!" She laughed. "Hmmm lets do a little Bruno Mars, I am sure lil bean times three will like it."

"Lil bean times three? Why not just lil beans?"

She shrugged. "Where's the fun in that?"

Sams smiled and looked at her stomach. "If you ever find yourself stuck in the middle of the sea, I'll sail the world to find you."

Mercedes stared over to Sam. "If you ever find yourself lose in the dark and you can't see, i'll be the light to guide you."

Sam smiled and joined her singing to their children. "We'll find out what we're made of, when we are called to help a friend in need."

Mercedes covered Sam's hand with hers again as they sang with each other. That moment being filled with two parents who love their children, and everything else just melted away. All that mattered right then and right now was their little family. As the song came to a close Sam glanced at Mercedes who was staring at him.

"Thank you for letting me be a part of that moment." He said quietly.

"Thank you for wanting to be a part of it."

They stared at each other for a few moments longer before Sam cleared his throat, standing. "I am going to grab you a bowl. How about you get dried off and meet me in your room?"

She nodded. "Okay."

Sam nodded, moved over to her and kissed her forehead, he just couldn't walk away without doing it for some reason.

After grabbing her a bowl of soup. He moved to her room and made a path for her and cleared off her bed.

The bathroom door opened and Mercedes walked towards the bed wearing a long robe. "You cleaned my bed off?" She asked with a small smile.

"You really should hire someone to do the packing for you, I don't want you tripping over something accidentally." Sam said, pulling the top cover back and nodding her over.

"I know, but I don't want them to break anything." She said softly moving towards the bed.

Sam shot her a look before shaking his head. "Well, I have some time off so I'll come over and do it for you." He said, watching her closely as she climbed onto the bed. "Do you want any crackers?"

"Sam, I'm more than halfway done, it shouldn't take me more than a couple more days to be done, you should enjoy your time off." She said trying to get comfortable. "No thank you, this smells really good… your mom always did know how to make me eat something." She laughed.

Sam placed the tray on her lap. "It's okay, I don't mind, besides we need to start planning for three kids and figure out what all you're taking to the house and what you want to buy." He replied sitting at the foot of the bed. "She said it'll help with the nausea."

"Yeah we do." She said stirring her soup. "I couldn't tell them…I headed over there but it felt wrong to tell them we were having triplets without you." She said turning towards him. "This is our big news, not just mine."

Sam sighed. "Yeah, I appreciate that… ma would've cried for hours if she couldn't smother me with hugs. We can always tell them tomorrow."

She nodded. "I work the night shift tomorrow so we can do it in the morning."

Sam ran his hand through his hair. "We need to talk about that too… you work long hours and it's not good to be on your feet that long. And before you stay anything, no, I wouldn't say this if it was only one child but it's three…"

Mercedes sighed heavily. "I can't take leave until I am closer to my due date. I do understand what you are feeling Sam but I don't have any other option."

"You have Shelby's offer."

"I know and it's a good offer but I never wanted to go private practice. You know how understaffed hospitals are." She said, pushing the soup around the bowl.

Sam grabbed the spoon and scooped but some before holding it to her mouth. "You'll have a better chance of being safe at Shelby's office and you can still do what you love."

Mercedes opened her mouth and sighed contently as she tasted the soup. "I'll call her tomorrow." Mercedes said softly. Sam was right and right now she had to do what was best for her children.

He chuckled. "What are those babies doing to you? Where's that feisty woman I used to know?" He teased, scooping another spoonful for her.

She laughed. "They are making me soft. And I hate it." She opened her mouth again, licking her lips as she groaned happily. "We were hungry and I just didn't realize it."

"Well it's a good thing I'm here." He said, grabbing a napkin and wiping her chin. "You have to promise to take care of yourself."

"You are always taking care of me Sam…I really appreciate it." She said, staring at him. "I promise I am gonna do my best Sam."

He smiled. "Of course, I'll always be here to take care of yo-" He started before looking away. "I'll be here for you guys… I'm going to start on the living room but call down if you need me okay?"

"Sam, wait…" She sighed. "Can you just…just lay with me for a little bit?"

He stood at the door with his back to her before looking over his shoulder. "I'm sorry… I can't but I'll sit here until you fall asleep."

She looked down to the tray and gave a pitiful laugh. "It's okay, you'd end up sitting here for a long time, insomnia is a real thing in pregnancy. But thanks." She said moving the tray but grabbing the water bottle.

"You haven't been sleeping?" He asked with his back still facing her.

"It's normal and I can ask Shelby for something that will help and not harm the babies." She placed her hair behind her ears.

Sam shook his head. "Will me laying down with you help?"

"Sam, no. I knew it the moment I asked that I shouldn't have asked. We will be okay up here." She was feeling so at ease with Sam for a moment she forgot they were barely friends at this point.

He turned around and looked at her. "Why… do you need me?" He asked.

She looked at him inhaling with a nod. "Yes."

Sam took a deep breath before nodding as he walked over to her bed, kicking his shoes off and nodding her over so he could lay down. "Which side are you comfortable laying on?"

She moved over. "The left." She said softly almost shyly, having him close literally brought tears to her eyes.

Sam gently picked her up and moved her over him so she could lay on her side, he kept his arms wrapped around her as he got comfortable behind her. "This okay?"

"Yes." She sniffed, closing her eyes as he held her.

He pulled her close and sighed, resting his head against the back of her head. "Get some rest, I won't leave."

Mercedes pulled his arms down to her stomach snuggling into his warmth as best as she could, already feeling herself growing sleepy. "I missed you." She murmured before the tiredness of the week took over and she started to snore lightly.

Sam heard her but chose not to say anything, instead he just kissed the back of her head and allowed sleep to take him over as well.

By early the next morning, Mercedes was unsure who moved more through the night but when she awoke the next morning they were tangled in each other's arms. She knew she should pull away but she wanted to stay there as long as she could, she felt safe, she felt secure and she was not ready to lose that feeling, not yet, so she would let Sam pull them apart. Unless she ended up having to pee, if she had to pee then nothing else mattered at that point.

Sam stirred a little, smiling when he felt Mercedes still laying against him. He opened his eyes seeing that she was still asleep before looking at the watch on his and seeing that it was a little after nine. He looked at her and figured she'd be hungry when she woke up and decided to go by the local shop to grab them some breakfast. He gently slipped out of bed making sure not to wake her, he covered her up before slipping on his shoes and quietly walking down stairs and out the door.

Seems like something is brewing... oh yeah three kids lol!
