Yep, we not keeping y'all hanging on this one!

The Agreement: Part Six

"Hello and welcome to the 5th Annual Shuester and Co Company picnic and games!" Will said standing in front of everyone. "Remember this is all for fun, though we all know that the qualities we see out here, will also determine if you go want to grow with our company. I'm looking at you Evans, Richards, and Puckerman."

Will holds up a long rope. "First game is tug of war, come and pick a card. If you have an even number you are blue and an odd number you will be red."

Sam looked over to Mercedes and gave her a soft smile. "The spouses mostly don't do tug of war so if you want to sit out…"

Mercedes scuffed. "I think you know me better than that… plus I came to play and I intend on doing as much."

"Yeah okay just making sure." Sam went to grab his number and nodded to Mercedes. "We are blue."

"Well well, you two thought you were real slick tricking me into believing Mercedes wasn't there with you," Shane said, sneering at Sam and Mercedes.

Mercedes smirked. "Well you could've asked instead of trying to get into my pants." She said sweetly.

"Can't blame a brotha for trying, and when you are done being one of Evans many come find me." Shane said, smirking.

Sam balled up his fist and started to move towards Shane but Mercedes stopped him. She placed her hands on his face, forcing him to look at her. "You know better, you know he wouldn't get a passing glance from me."

Sam looked at her frowning. "That's not the point, I know that I was…friendly before but I would never…Mercedes you know that right?"

She smiled. "Of course I know, it's me. You don't have to worry about some asshole trying to paint you in a negative light just to get to me. Let's just kick his ass in the games."

Sam nodded moving in to kiss her softly. "Yeah, let's do this."

Tug of War wasn't much of a battle considering the blue side destroyed the red within mere seconds of the whistle blowing. Next up was the three legged race. Sam held up the elastic bands and smiled. "You remember when we did this at summer camp? And you tripped me." He teased.

Mercedes giggled. "I did not trip you, you tied it too high and I fell because I'm a lot shorter than you are." She replied, shaking her head. "And if memory serves me correctly I was wearing a damn dress that day… everyone saw my ass and you did nothing!"

"Oh I allowed the world to see your perfect ass, some would call me a hero." He teased.

She hit his arm. "I was literally pants all the time after that! Cause the boys, mainly your friends wanted to see my ass! I will have payback."

"Mmmm you know I am still friends with a few of them, they would be so jealous the amount of times I have gotten to see your ass." He joked.

Mercedes smirked. "You sure some of them haven't seen it since then?" She asked, fixing her hair before kneeling to tie the elastic around their legs. "Cause Puck's seen it."

Sam froze staring at her. "You hooked up with Puck?"

She looked at him, trying to see if she could predict his reaction before slowly nodding. "We had a… thing some years back." She admitted.

"A thing? What in the hell does that mean? And how did I now know about this!" Sam asked, folding his arms.

"Well… it was after he came back from basic training and Q was with Biff. It started because we'd gotten drunk and he needed a place to stay so… I let him crash with me for a few months." She explained choosing not to go into great detail.

Sam shook his head, trying to shake off the feeling of jealousy. He didn't get jealous, not of the guys Mercedes dated and yet now he wanted to go find Puck and bust him in his ass. "Oh okay, you are just full of surprises aren't you?"

She rolled her eyes. "Sam this…me and you weren't even remotely this close when it happened. I never told you because it was a thing… we had sex and then he went back to Quinn when she broke up with Biff. End of story."

"Did you… were there feelings involved?" He asked, not looking at her.

"For the few months that he stayed with me, we engaged in sex…" She replied, looking at him.

"So this isn't the first time you've done friends with benefits?" He asked.

She looked away, running her hand over her face. "I never said it was just friends with benefits.." She answered.

"Did you tell him you love him too?" He asked barely above a whisper.

Mercedes looked at him with hurt eyes before shaking her head. "That's not fair… it wasn't like that with him… we were and are just friends but for a brief time we were more."

Sam removed the elastic from his leg. "I cant- I need some water." He shook his head walking away from her and over to the cooler grabbing a water bottle and then walking over to a nearby tree.

Mercedes sighed, wanting to scream but instead to go after him and make him realize it was nothing like that for her. "Sam!" She said, looking for him before spotting him by a tree. She went over to him, she could see he wasn't happy about this new information but needed him to understand she never felt the way she does for him for Puck. "Are you going to just avoid me now?"

"Why got more of my friends you wanna tell me have seen your ass?" He spat.

She flinched at the harshness of his words. "I- you slept with Quinn and Santana and had a thing with Rachel and you're mad about this? Sam we have only always been friends, why is this an issue?"

"Because I thought I was special! I thought this was special but good to know that I am just your flavor of the month!" He didn't know why he was lashing out but it hurt to know this was what she did.

Mercedes furrowed her brows before raising her hand and slapping hard. "Fuck you! I'm not staying here and pretending to be your damn fiancee and be treated like a slut!" She said before storming away with fresh tears streaming down her face.

Sam didn't watch her walk away, he just leaned against the tree with his eyes closed. All he wanted to do was ask if she meant that she loved him and confess how he felt, but his damn feelings made both of them miserable.

Since Mercedes took the car back to the cabin, Sam walked back, but he didn't mind, it should have helped him clear his mind but all it did wsas make things worse, made him wonder if she was just using him for sex? But that was how all that started anyways. So why the hell did he care if she was?

By the time he finally made it back to the cabin, he saw Mercedes loading her bags into the truck of a car. He could tell even with her facing away from him that she was still crying.

"Don't worry Samuel, I'll keep my part of the deal and allow your coworkers to think I'm still your fiancee, but don't you… don't talk to me again." She said, looking at him for a brief moment before getting into the car and taking a deep breath. She just lost her oldest friend over three words.

Sam fixed the picture frames in his new office. True to his word, Will gave Sam the promotion he was gunning for, but it was bittersweet. Especially since he hadn't spoken to Mercedes since the retreat a little over three months ago. He wanted to talk to her the moment he got home but his pride said she needed to cool down. By the time he was ready to talk to her, too much time had passed and things just felt too strained.

As he sat in his chair, he felt Mercedes, then heard her, before he saw her. He stood up walking to the door, wondering what she was doing there, he watched her walk towards his desk but then when she didn't look at him, he knew she wasn't there for him. In a panic of sorts he grabbed her arm

"Mercy?" He said looking at her and having to fight off a shiver that ran through him when he grabbed her arm. "Wh-what are you doing here?"

Mercedes moved his hand from hers softly, giving him her fakest smile. "I am here to see Unique, though since I am such a slut I might take a pass at some of your coworkers." That last part was mumbled to where only Sam could hear her.

He moved closer to her. "Mercedes… just give me a chance to apologize. I overreacted and wasn't thinking right and I just wanted to tell you I feel the same way."

"No, now kiss me on the cheek so I can go." She said gritting her teeth through her smile.

Sam looked at her before sighing. He cupped her face and placed a tender kiss on her lips before stepping away. "I'm sorry." He said only loud enough for her to hear.

"Now that is something we can agree one." She said turning and walking out of his office.

Sam let out a breath knowing that whatever there was between us was now gone because he was an asshole. He would eventually have to tell everyone that they weren't together anymore and she would have to give him the ring back… the ring that he didn't even know would fit but it fit her perfectly.

"Mr. Evans you have a visitor." His assistant said breaking him from his thoughts and part of him hoped it was Mercedes coming back but when the door opened he saw that it was Puck.

Sam felt his blood beginning to boil and hadn't realized that he was inches away from Puck when his friend let out a soft chuckle. "I see it's time we talk…"

"I don't want to hear anything you have to-"

"Bullshit, you're mad about something that happened years ago and had nothing to do with you."

Sam narrowed his eyes at him. "She called you?" He asked and Puck just sat down on the couch and sighed.

"If she did, are you going to blow up at her again?"

Sam thought it over knowing he would be very mad because she had been ignoring him but clearly had time to call Puck. "I… I don't know."

Puck leaned back, smirking. "She put it on you I see… she couldn't have told you everything if you're mad at her." He said and Sam just sat in the chair placing his head in his hands.

"I don't know what the hell happened… I just blew up over her telling me about you two and now I-"

"And now you're having to live with that fuck up. Let me tell you what completely happened… you see after basic training I was lost because as badass as I pretend to be I couldn't hang. I came home, well to New Haven because I knew Quinn was at Yale but she was with this loser Biff." He explained, sighing. "It was the same time Mercedes was visiting and she could tell something was wrong… and not because Quinn was with Biff, I wasn't all me."

Sam looked at him. "This was when she was in college?"

Puck rolled his eyes. "I haven't seen her naked since that day she made me go after Quinn… but listen, you need to hear everything. She wasn't completely herself either, it was like she was missing something or someone. We got drunk before hitting the train back to NYU, she let me crash at her place that night and one thing led to another… we were drunk but we kinda needed each other in that moment."

Sam shook his head. "She said you stayed for months."

"I did… and it was the most healing time of my life. It wasn't us just having sex at random, it was a real connection and I wouldn't take back that time for anything but like I said she was missing something…"

Sam sighed, running his hands through his hair. "Did you love her?"

Puck smiled. "Hell yes but not the way you love her. It wasn't a soul tie, it was just friends comforting each other."

"How do you know how I feel?"

"Because for a minute I thought I was in love with her and I saw her talking to a guy from her college and got jealous. Insanely jealous before she sat me down and told me I was clearly trippin. Then she kissed me and asked me if I felt like the world stopped spinning. It didn't and that's when I knew that I had only experienced that with Q." He answered smiling and looking down at his wedding band. "She made me leave that minute to get Quinn back and I told her she should do the same."

"What do you mean she should do the same?" He asked. "As far as I know, she's never been in love."

Puck snickered. "Right, so she decides to transfer her senior year and you didn't think anything of it? Has the thought ever crossed your mind that maybe she didn't know that she was in love? That maybe she just went where her heart felt happiest?" Puck questioned. "I lived with her for months and I saw each and every dude and some woman trying to get her attention, she never gave them a passing thought."

"Yeah because she had you." Sam scoffed.

Puck leaned forward and smacked him across the head. "I was never hers and she was never mine. Stop acting like a jackass and own up to what you did, you can keep dancing around it all you want but the longer you do the less chances you have at even getting her to look at you again. She is not one for second chances and for some crazy ass reason, this, me being here is your second chance."

"She told me she loved me and I didn't get a chance to reply, then I just acted like a complete idiot because the thought of her being with anyone other than me just kills me. It's never been like this between us, I never cared who she was with and we were just best friends but now she's all I want."

"It's never been like this because you've never been with her like this. She's not just the fun sidekick, she's amazing and complex and if you're lucky enough for her to love you then you better hold on to it tightly. She called me, you have to understand that means she hasn't completely given up… I mean shit, we promised we'd never tell anyone about this.."

Sam ran his hands over his face. "Never saw her as the fun sidekick. Crazy ass Mercy, of course but she's never not been amazing to me. And I love her, she's my best friend, but I know it's more than that, I am in love with her, so if there is a chance I am gonna take it. I don't know what I am gonna do but I am gonna try to fix this."

Sam watched Mercedes walk past his office arm and in arm with Unique. "I will fix this Puck."

Puck shook his head. "You better because I had to tell Quinn that I have indeed slept with one of her closest friends before coming here because if I had told you first she would've killed me." He said standing up. "This is your last chance, don't fuck it up and for the love of God, marry her." He shot him a small smile before walking out.

Sam sat there trying to figure out what he should do before picking up his phone and dialing his father's number.

"Why are you calling here? Have you made up with my daughter in law yet?"

"Not yet, that's actually why I am calling."

Dwight heaved a sigh. "Fine, what do you want?"

"Can you move up the fishing trip to this weekend?"

Dwight laughed. "And why would I do that?"

"Because, I think it's high time I proposed to Mercedes."

Lawd... this was a roller coaster and the crazy thing is that Sam about to try to propose to Mercedes and she aint even talking to his ass... lol
